[Q] Soft Brick issue - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
First time working with a samsung phone, so im not very used to some samsung realted soft.
I'm doing a favor to a friend, he came to this problem where his phone woudnt boot up, He says one day he run out of battery and coudl never turn it on again.
when i turn it on, it gets stucked at boot image (first attached image), if i try to charge the battery image appears but with the loading logo (the loading logo is not moving), he told me that he also tried with another battery and the same appeared.
For what i've read there is a download mode besides recovery mode. I think i have no problem entering download mode (3rd pic), even though i don't know how to use it, pressing a button does nothing, and pluggin it to a pc (drivers installed it) seems the same.
So i wanted to enter recovery mode, and trying o factory reset it, but when i try to enter most of times nothing happens, the others i get weird screen like the one i attached.
I'm not pretty sure how to preceed now. The only thing that appears to be working is the download mode. If that's the case, how can i flahs the stock firmware on it?
Thanks for reading!

You would do the same thing as if it were custom firmware, goto http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/, and download the stock firmware compatible with the device
Enter the device in download mode and flash the stock firmware with Odin
Instructions by SamMobile self:
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minute

thanks for the reply, i think i might be doing something wrong, ODIN failed, i attach a screenshot, any idea?

I cannot tell much from the screenshot to be honest, all i can point at would be a newer version of Odin as the instructions told: [LINK TO ODIN 3.09]

Same error as before
im downloading some other firmwares to try, but i dont think there is the problem :s

I've been having this issue for months now. It does that exact thing. Try removing the SIM card and starting the phone as normal and see what happens. If it starts then, we have the exact problem. Mine works perfectly WITHOUT the SIM card but....what's a phone without a SIM card right? I've tried putting the Stock ROM on to no avail as well. I think my thread about this is still somewhere around but I doubt anyone managed to solve the problem either.
If you do work something out post it back. Sorry I couldn't be much help.
E: just posting my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2778167

[Q] Help me!! My Captivate is a brick!!

My Captivate became the brick by failure of the recovery.
The screen remains black.
The power button and volume buttons no response.
In Japan, I cannot repair it.
I am not a member of AT&T.
Please teach it if know the shop repairing other than AT&T.
step one. get odin3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439
step two install drivers if you dont already have the drivers on your computer, there are manual driver install tutorials online, google it
3. extract files and start odin.exe
4. put .pit file in the slot labled pit
5. put .tar file in the pda slot
6. plug usb data cable into computer, not into phone yet.
7. pull battery and put it back in,
8. hold volume up and volume down, insert data cable into phone and continue to hold the volume up+down buttons for at least 5 seconds. it should be in download mode. normally you have a yellow sign with a robot holding a shovel but i once had a black screen and odin still saw the device
odin will light up a box showing you are connected and the text should also indicate you are connected.
if not you may need to take other measures for download mode see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829492&page=3
9. once you are in download and odin sees the phone hit start to flash the phone.
if the flash is not successful try to use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989&highlight=odin+click+stock+rom+jf6 instead, master clear if at all possible
It is not a download mode.
Odin3 many times I used to change the ROM, all of which succeeded.
This time, ClockWorkMod Recovery in ROM from microSD installed, black screen freezes when it reboot.
From then on, things that can both download mode button.
Also, USB does not respond to the command prompt can also ADB.
Thank you.

try building the adapter in the thread i posted, supposedly it forces download mode. also it is posible to be in download mode with a screen that is black, it happened to me once, try to flash it anyway.
you might need to take a trip to akihabara to build the jig but it's worth it i think.
also if the phone starts to a black screen then master clear it with odin one-click on that screen.
thanks for the info. saved my phone. thanks
Thank you for giving good advice!!

I try a method of "jig".

Maybe not. I thought I was there too.
Keep trying the battery pull method. It took several times before it finally worked for me.
Here's one version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9024244&postcount=7
but you can try other button combinations (like just volume up, or just volume down).
If you don't see anything on your screen, that doesn't mean it hasn't worked. Sometimes the graphic for download mode gets screwed up so the screen will still be black, but ODIN will still recognize the phone.
If you really are hard bricked, then you need jtag service. MobileTechVideos can do it for you.

Make/buy a Jig (forces the phone in to Download mode) if that doesn't work then like startngate said you will need a Jtag to fix it.
thanks for the reply i took it into a samsung certified repair tech here in the city he has a jtag machine. odin wouldnt recognize my device at all

[Q] HELP!!!Cannot restore to stock ROM

Hi there I got a Samsung captivate SGH-I897 and I got a custom rom installer from Rom Kitchen. I wanted to go back to stock rom but once i get into download mode the phone not loading the rom ODIN stays in DO NOT TURN OFF THE TARGET!please help get out of that and use my phone again!the Base Rom i Used on custom rom is XWJS5 v9.6 with Firebird Kernel
Thank you for your time
close odin 1 click, unplug phone leave it in d/l mode, open odin plug phone back into usb, you should see a com port then like 7 or 3 or something. then hit start. Sometimes I have to repeat process 3 or 4 times before odin works right. if it isnt doing anything unplug it, remove battery put battery back in hold volume buttons down when u plug it back into usb and should go back to d/l mode. make sure odin is opened first.
I ve tried all these the problem is that I am at Phone - ! - PC and its hard to get to Download Mode but after many tries I all of a sudden I get in that mode then nothing more I can do!
Does Odin recognize the phone when you connect the USB cable when your phone is in download mode? Also which OS is your PC running? I was having an issue with Odin not pushing the stock rom and I had to start it as administrator in Win 7 to get it to work.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes DOES recognize the phone but not pushing the ROM on it!I am on Windows 7 and i always run ODIN as Admin!
Any ideas?
I've heard Odin can be flaky and may take several attempts before it will work. I would keep trying. Also possibly change which USB port you are using on your computer and see if that helps. I was in this exact same scenario last week. I would turn on the phone and get the computer/phone/exclamation point of death screen. I couldn't get the phone to boot or into download mode without using a JIG. Finally on about the third try Odin worked for me. I started Odin as admin and almost as soon as I plugged in the phone to USB I hit flash and it worked. Best of luck...
Odin is not flaky. It works if you follow instructions. It's the user's fault, not the software.
Anyway, this is probably the ten millionth time I've posted this in the last hour, but here's how to get into download mode if nothing else works. If this doesn't work, you hard bricked your phone and would need a JTAG flash.

Unplug the phone from the computer and remove the battery, SIM, and external SD if there is one.
1. Open Odin one click.
2. Plug the phone in (without the battery in the phone). Do not press any buttons, especially the power button.
3. Press and hold the volume rocker (holding down both volume up and down).
4. Insert the battery while holding the volume rocker.
5. The phone should boot into download mode. You can then let go of the volume rocker.
Now wait 30 seconds (if you press "Start" too soon, it will not work). Then press "Start" and your flash should finish.

my phone is in download mode but odin hung once i unplugge and plugged back in ever since phone isnt see by odin or pc?
Yes, as I stated in my post above; you must reboot your phone every single time you go into Download mode. What I mean by that is that if you go into Download mode and plug your phone in, then unplug it, you cannot plug your phone back in unless you reboot your phone.

Didn't realize that you weren't the OP. Regardless, I was referring to you.
Anyway, this is a more serious case than I thought. Have you used the AIO Captivate Tool? If so, did you install the LibUSB drivers? Those will disable Odin from working (I'm probably going to PM Bay_wolf sometime soon about that...).
Do get everything working again:
Plug the phone in while it's in Download mode. Open the start menu, right click on "Computer", and click "Manage". In the left sidebar, select "Device Manager".
There will be a dropdown labeled "LibUSB Devices" or something with the word libusb in it. Find that dropdown, right click the Samsung USB Device or whatever it's called and select "Update Driver Software...". Then select "Search automatically for updated driver software."
An alternative is to just use the "Flash to Stock" option in the AIO tool. This and the above is assuming that you had used the AIO Tool and installed the LibUSB drivers previously. If you have not, then you may have to try and re-install the Samsung drivers. If that doesn't work, ask to borrow a friend's computer for now to flash back to stock, because this happened to me before and I didn't know how to fix it, but I was about to re-install Windows anyway so I never figured it out.
im on xp and pc sees my cappy but odin execution 1.00 is stuck on examing files is there another version i should be trying? if it helps this is what i was trying to get off my phone when the crap hit the fan http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940330 and i tried to put paragon 6 on and it kept erring because i needed to do a odin job first on it
I finally managed to turn my phone on last nigh by doing the following:
1.Open Odin
2.Get in download mode (it took me many tries but finally I made it)
3.Disconnect phone
4.Reconnect phone
5.Choose the PIT file
6.Uncheck Auto Reboot
7.Hit Start
After that I took out the battery put it back again and power up.the phone will boot but not show the main screen it will only vibrate!then i used the AIO pack to put it back in recovery mode and i reinstalled the Custom Firmware I was using. Now is on and working again!I really dont know now if I can flash back to stock!

did you use thee pitfile came with odin in the all in one or did you select another pitfile if you used a differnt pitfile then comes with odin 1.00 that might be my issue
No no I dont use this on I use one I had on my PC.
I think the problem is a write protection as I can see when i connect the phone it displays a CDROM drive when I click on it, opens ok but I cant write anything on the phone.and every time I try to use ODIN to flash to stock it stays in DO NOT TURN OFF THE TARGET and nothing happens!
Any ideas on how to get back to stock firmware?

First make sure your phone is charged, before trying to get it into download mode again, if you can't you need a usb jig.
It was fully charged befor I started the update
Charge device for 1 hour.. Then pull out battery . wait for few seconds. again put battery in. Then Hold Volume down + home + Power for 10 secs. it should enter download mode.
If it doesn't work, Pull out the battery. hold volume up button put battery in holding volume up button, connect data cable to PC and Device, now it should get in to download mode.
if you able to get in to Download mode first flash Stock GB ROM using PC Odin.

[Q] No recovery mode after failed OTA - Note N7000

Hi guys - I have had a mini disaster with my Note and desperate for some expert advice.
Basically last night I ran the official ICS OTA it downloaded great, I left it plugged into the power and ran the update as I slept. I woke up this morning to find the battery flat, guessing a charging issue I used my external charger to charge the battery. Now, the phone is stuck in some kind of boot loop - It passes the Samsung splash screen to a black screen with the Android Robot with it's belly full of spiraling triangles. That hangs for 30 seconds then it restarts and does the same thing over and over again.
I can not enter recovery mode - vol up + home + power doesn't work but I can enter the download ODIN screen.
Any ideas what I can do?

[Q] Stuck in bootloop after trying to install a custom ROM, unable to detect the device through ADB/Fastboot [Solved]

Title says it all. But for those that want to know a bit more in detail about what's going on, I tried to install this custom ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-oneui-2-5-twrp-ncx-2-5-for-a71-sm-a715f.4174135/ Clearly I did something wrong (a bit more clarification in that guide would help people not used to rooting an Android device getting through that process easier), so now I want to go to square 1 by installing the stock ROM again. But the thing is, after installing multidisabler through TWRP, the phone is not permanently stuck into a bootloop and now I can't even go into safemode, nor download mode, and I can't enter the recovery mode, the only thing my phone is capable of doing is to restart by itself by holding the volume down and the power buttons at the same time, and now ADB nor Fastboot can't detect my device (the PC does a Samsung device being connected though, so it's not a hardbrick, I guess).
Samsung devices do not use Fastboot. You should restore through Odin instead.
Try the following:
1. Download Odin on your computer, you can get it from here. Extract it into a folder.
2. Download the firmware for your device. Find out your device model first and then look on http://samfw.com, I've downloaded from there a lot in the past, it works great.
3. Extract the firmware, you should get five files: AP, BL, CP, CSC, and HOME_CSC.
4. Make sure your device is powered off, and press power + volume down + bixby. You should be asked to confirm you want to enter download mode, press the volume up button.
5. Plug your device into the computer, then select the files for all the slots. Use CSC, not HOME_CSC for CSC (CSC is for fresh restore, HOME_CSC is for software update).
6. A device should show in the top bar, something like [COM:6]. This means your device is connected. If it isn't there, make sure your device is plugged in and in Download Mode.
7. Click flash. The firmware should start to flash and there should be a progress bar in Download Mode. Once it's finished your device should reboot into the system.

Well, trying to reflash everything through Odin has been a thing I tried to do, but how am I supposed to shutdown a phone that is stuck at the Samsung logo (is there any combination to shutdown a Samsung during the boot process?)? And even after that, how am I supposed to press "power + volume down + bixby" if both the power and bixby buttons are the same buttons?

I tried entering Download Mode hours ago, but to no avail. Even before flashing mutidisabler through TWRP (and thus, the phone was working), I had to use ADB in order to make my phone be able to enter Recovery Mode, since the combo for recovery and download mode just made my phone make a loud noise and restart my phone onto safe mode.
Ok, here's an update, apparently pressing those buttons, makes the screen have the same, but at least Odin recognizes the drive, but now I'm stuck at this error: "Complete(Write) operation failed."
Something's weird here, I'm 99.9% sure I did activate USB debugging for this phone, although that was just before wiping the entire drive before the phone got stuck in this loop.
Fixed. Many thanks to @hainguyenthao for helping me out ^^

I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble installing the ROM and I'm glad you were able to fix it.
I unfortunately can't see a way that I could make the tutorial on how to install the ROM any easier. I'm almost certain I covered all my bases going over the perquisites and how to install the ROM. I also have a Telegram group in that thread so that users can join if they are ever stuck in any of the steps so that either me or other users that have successfully installed the ROM can help people in doubt since I'm not available 100% of the time. If you ever decide to give it a try again, don't be shy, you can always join the group and request for help.
