[Requires Root][Open Source] Doubletap to Wake Enabler v1.2 - Nexus 6 Themes and Apps

Nexus 6 Doubletap To Wake
Description
Enables the "double tap to wake" feature that the Nexus 6 shipped with.. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this. I am offering it for free to members of xda-developers; you can find the apk below. If you wish to donate, feel free to download it from the Google Play Store for $0.99 (USD):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codechron.n6doubletapunlock
If you wish to view the code or build from source to verify that nothing mischievous is going on, you may find the code on Github. Note that the code may be slightly messy; most of my development experience lies elsewhere.
https://github.com/smskelley/Nexus-6-Tap-to-Wake/
Video
@techfanatic9 was kind enough to make a video demonstrating the installation and basic use of this app.
Caveats
Google's built in implementation of double tap to wake isn't perfect. It's likely why it wasn't enabled out of the box. Some users have indicated that if their device has been sleeping for a while, double tap to wake isn't always reliable. It is very unlikely to cause harm to your Nexus 6, but extensive longterm testing has not yet been done. Additionally, this is unlikely to work on anything but the Nexus 6. By downloading now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
Changelog
Version 1.2 - Mostly bugfixes.
Enhanced error checking.
If a non rooted device opens this application, it should no longer crash.
Small formatting changes.
Version 1.1 - Persist through reboot.
Settings now persist through reboot.
Changed name from "Doubletap to Unlock" to "Doubletap to Wake".
Updated Icon. Doesn't look amazing, but it's better than it was.
Updated some text.
Version 1.0 - Initial Version
Implemented the ability to turn on or off Double Tap to Wake

Dope! Testing right meow

You, sir or miss, are an amazing person. Coming from having the g2 and then the g3 I'm pretty accustomed to the knock on/off. Thank you for getting this out there on the swift tip.

Thanks, I am coming from the G3 and I still double tap my nexus at times since I'm so used to it. This works perfectly, I wonder why google took the feature out?

Just tested and works. This feature is essential since the phone lacks infrared sensors like the X. Nice work!

I have created an app for the Nexus 6 which enables the "double tap to unlock" feature. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this.
I have only tested it on my device. I wouldn't expect it to work on anything but the Nexus 6. It is very unlikely to cause harm to other devices, but know that by downloading it right now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.

I dunno, but there is a commit in aosp that specifically disabled double tap to wake in HAL, for shamu.
Possibly to avoid pocket double tap? Or random double taps on accident.

If you reboot your phone, it breaks. You have to re-enable it again. Just letting you know.

it would be cool if you could double tap and wake the screen in ambient display mode

It doesn't take the proximity sensor into effect, so if your pocket double taps your phone, it will wake up. Next to my buddies OnePlus. If you cover the proximity sensor it won't double tap to wake.
This will wake no matter what. Just an FYI.

Works great for me. Thank you very much @naxir now the Nexus behaves like my G3

Thanks for this! Any battery impact?

Works great as a very first release. I'm sure that you have more in mind to implement but very nice surprise to wake up to.

Thanks. Also coming from G3, I would tap every time like a reflex. Thanks again.

LG Please know we hate this. Let us turn this annoying feature off

This right here pisses me off
Sick of this damn call timer when trying to use other apps during a call.
Although that there isnt the main reason why I'm getting rid of this phone, I'll go ahead and add it to the ever growing list of reasons why I'm dumping it and getting a Nexus 6. Screw LG and their locked down pile of garbage. Sad thing is, it's so much wasted potential.
I love it when a new device comes out, and XDA becomes riddled with whiney posts about "this" or "that" which users say they 'hate' or 'can't stand'. Okay, so there's no publicized root method yet, deemed safe for consumerism, but once that's released I'm sure that every little quarky nuance will have a method to remove, hide, or alter in some way. The call timer has an option for hiding in the LG G3 via G3 Tweaksbox. With that example, I stand confident that this phone will have some type of similarities to, as I mentioned, "deal" with the things people complain about. Fact is, this phone is not impressively different from the G3, and there are no real profoundly engineered improvements made in the G4. You may ask, "Apex, y u bye did fone den?" Good question. My answer is this, I like LG's products and I appreciate the work developers are able to do, in order to make something good, great. So, in the meamtime, until root is available, you won't hear me having a hissy fit about (insert whatever) things. Samsung isn't for me, HTC is bunk, Motorola, well... been there, done that. I think most folks would respect those complaints be made on Reddit, or somewhere besides the place that developers afford us the grace of enjoying what they do for the community, free of charge.

Meh, I left the steaming pile of hardware failures that is a Nexus 6 for the G4. Volume rockers stopped working on the first one, new phone had screen issues, ya, the N6 isn't the greatest phone ever.

Because clicking a check box to unlock the bootloader is so hard. Root takes time on all modern devices.
Hahaha... Now root being available, I've installed debloated ROM and 3000mah battery serves me really well. Not to mention boost in speed as well. On stock ROM, I was missing my nexus 5 so much.
I hope you stuck around for a little longer. Feels like beasty phone just got injected with the steroid.

Agreed....I was fed up with this phone.....root came and glory glory amen it's a better phone. Even with just a simple debloated ROM....can't wait till they really tweak the stock ROM like crazy. I probably won't go aosp....because of the camera app...whole reason I bought the phone...it deletes the side car RAW file in the default gallery aosp can't do that...neither can manual camera app or Fv5

The thermal throttling and stuff needs some crazy tweaking...and a better kernel...my apps have to re draw too much...memory leak somewhere

I'm not sure if you figured it out, but since we have root, you can download app ops from play store. Go to the phone section and disable draw on top. It will stop the timer. And so far I have not noticed anything wrong.

I checked and I still get the dialog box, make sure the option is checked in the call settings. I'm not sure what you mean about the notification bar, but I can drag down and click on the call, which brings me back to the call.

Seems like a really silly reason to get rid of an otherwise awesome phone...
What's funny is that the current root methods as dangerous as they are. Are no more dangerous then when I had my Evo4g, and that team didn't have something like "OEM Unlock" to make it easier. No risk, no reward.
Not to mention that you can drag that icon anywhere on the screen so i dont see how it can be so intrucive during other app usage. Also why dont you just talk on the phone, your on a call, pay attention and stop playing with other apps, real easy

Camera App does not launch using the double click method

So I just messaged ZTE about how I think double clicking the camera button to launch the camera would be a good feature. I thought, that's too simple, there's no way its NOT there. Sure enough I look in the manual and it says " In other screens, Press twice to launch camera..." when I double press it does NOT open the camera.
I hope some dev talent picks up this device. The hardware is there just needs some polish on the software. I'm very satisfied with this phone, My first none Nexus device since before the Nexus S. I was blown away by the design and specs so I had to get a hold of one.
Yeah that feature seems to not be working at all. Bummer too.
I noticed something interesting today with my axon. When holding down the camera button in any other screen, the haptic feedback triggers. So something is assigned to the button, it may just be a programming error.

So im not the only one! thank god I was worried I had some sort of internal hardware issue... It gives the slightest vibration on a double click but nothing launches.
EDIT: I just tweeted at AXON about this issue. Hopefully bring it to their attention and we start getting some polishing on this otherwise pretty great software.
Camera Key
the quick launch feature was removed last minute out of fear of taking pictures in your pocket. It may be readded at a later date with a software update. If you have any questions call 1-800-617-5065. that number is a VIP line just for the axon pro

I'd imagine a lot of people who do gaming would appreciate the extra button. For me, not really an idea, but I'd like to use fingerprint to take pics. This has been done by a dev here, however AFAIK it doesn't work with the stock camera and that limits things.
But sure if I have any ideas I'll let you know.
Edit--ok just off top of my head--maybe a shortcut for call recording, screenshot, sleep, etc.
Not sure if this interests you or you're more of a game developer.

Fc on 6p dp4. Sent in-app feedback

Full Screen gesture control like Paranoid Android's blink concept.

I came around this app called Fluid Navigation Gestures.
It's awesome, it needs some permissions to hide the navigation bar that you have to provide through adb commands. The instructions are clear and anyone can do all that.
There are unlimited possibilities for the way you navigate through this app, It's highly customisable. There is also a 1$ optional payment that opens up more customizations.

Well no lags on my device, and the bug you said is not listed there, maybe it got fixed. Although there is a mention of lag due to accessibility service, but I never experienced it.
Only issue I have is faulty previous app function, at times it tries to open the app I am already in.

Sorry, I meant accessibility. It's been a few weeks already that I tried. Let's see if I'll have this problem again. This app can consistently change the way we use our soft keys phones, and I loved it
Wish Android had the swipe-to-back feature that iOS has had for years, its such a smooth experience.
MIUI has the same gestures OP suggested, but its so unnatural, same goes for these gestures.
Really nice app and "fluid". Been using since day 1 I got a2 lite, as I loved the full screen gesture on MIUI ROM.
Although I recently updated to Pie and this app (and others like this) are causing flickering issues.
EDIT
Turning on "disable HW overlays" in developer options fixes the flickering issue for now.

I forgot that I removed some stuff while I was doing my own private builds. Ill be uploading *at some point* a build with the fixes. You can simply reboot to recovery and flash.
Link updated to new build. Nothing huge, some fixes for stuff that others may use.
Can I dirit flash from this build when official builds release? Will official builds keep no encryption?

Dirty flash probably not. I know the maintainer very well. He will have encryption.
Honestly I am just trying to give everyone a stable, easy to flash build until official drops. I keep source up to date, I have made some of my kernel changes etc.. This is not my great return. I just thought it would be nice to have something stable and more inline (outside of being decrypted) to what Evox will drop. When official drops, I will fade back into the darkness from which I came.
Do you all want encryption? I don't care one way or another.
apophis9283 said:
Let me start this off by saying this would be a placeholder until official Evox hits. OOS camera works. Everything is great. For now it is NOT ENCRYPTED. You can use orange fox to set a pin in recovery and that way it makes it easier to flash. While still having some security. Comes with my kernel, which is being worked on and is a work in progress. So huge thanks to @Blaster4385. This is a courtesy. Arguing or demanding anything and I close the thread down. I ask that moderators watch this thread and if things get out of control immediately and without question, shut it down immediately. Off topic chat will be tolerated for a few posts at most. Anything pertaining to the ROM/kernel is fine
You will need to clean flash. Bottom line.

I'll work on it over time, unless official Evox show up. When I have time and the want
I plan on dropping a build today. Its not a huge change log. I've had pneumonia and have been laid out for over week. I'm just waiting for the antibiotics to work. But I did bump the build fingerprint. Should't take me too long

We all appreciate the hell out of it! Do you know if Now Playing could work? When I first installed the latest build yesterday the app (I can't remember the name of) that tracks all of that kept crashing over and over until I uninstalled it.

Not sure. I have "more" stuff in device settings. I still have some work to do before I drop a build though
I have touchscreen gestures being built as well as the "extras" for slider unfortunately at this moment they aren't working. Ive exhausted all the times I have for tonight. It could be just a clean flash is required, I won't even be able to that route until I wake up tomorrow.
