Guides on Rooting / Xposed / Emui 3 / Recovery stuff / Lollipop / L10 info and more - Huawei Ascend P7

I wanted to make a thread for all things Emui 3.0 for general discussions about the actual rom interface itself and the stuff it has
There has been a few threads mislabeled like the thread in here called 25/11 EMUI 3.0 Official Update which was only asking and hoping for a ETA for the L10 model.
And other threads which have been about Emui 3 talk but only asking for downgrade and other things.
No thread has been designed as the actual Emui 3 general discussion thread for talk about the actual Emui 3 system on our phones.
So this thread is here to change that I hope so we can actually discuss the Emui 3 system and try to consolidate posts into one thread.
Below is some stuff I'll think about maintaining for a while.
FAQ
When is the ETA on Emui 3 for L10?
- Beta version "B602" is now rolling out to select people that signed up at this link
- You must be on version B133SP01 to be able to update.
- ETA on final Emui 3.0 for L10 would be in early January.
- Remember Emui 3 B602 can be very buggy as it is classed a beta which means its going through bug testing for pending fixes.
- Do not complain to us if you happen to find bugs report them to huawei through the inbuilt HiCares app.
Why didn't huawei released Emui 3 L10 same time as other models?
- This would most likely be due to licensing and other factors with the fact they are a Chinese company and coding the rom for there own language first to see how things go before doing translation and localisation into the international market and due to language barrier they choose like most people to work with their native language first till they get that done right.
Huawei are too slow and don't care about us :'(
- Huawei is a Chinese company and Chinese is their primary language and as such there local native models come first before there international models. If you do not like that buy a phone from a local company in your country next time,
We are never getting Lollipop :'( everyone else supposedly has it.
- With Lollipop it was only released in early Nov 2014, all developers hadn't had it that long to be able to customise and test their own interfaces and hardware etc yet and fix any issues that come up.
- Also Lollipop 5.0.1 was released December 3 2014 to fix critical bugs that the device can be totally wiped and unusable under certain conditions from the lock screen if you failed the pattern, and most company's know there may be some critical post release fixes.
- Most 3rd party companies still don't have a stable lollipop build and are expected to have their roms out to the general public for mainstream devices around March 2015, 3rd parties without much system level customisation may be out to consumers by end of 2014.
- Only Nexus devices have lollipop initially as there firmware comes directly from Google themselves everyone else has to customise and compile Lollipop for their devices as well as fix any bugs that come up it all takes time before a public release.
What about custom L10 Emui 3 roms?
- This is NOT really recommended especially for end users, till things mature and that is for all roms for all models.
- If there are custom Emui 3 roms for the L10 they would be done by repackaging parts of roms from other P7 models like the L07, or the new beta, this is risky if the drivers and hardware differ between models and is hacky at best and not fully integrated.
- The kernels are released and people are working on building a rom from those so be patient or help them out if you know about linux source.
I upgraded to a custom L10 Emui 3 version and my phone is screwed up I want to downgrade back to stock L10
- Theres a post in this forum about doing that, but personally I don't know how involved or working it is I'll update this when someone links a proper guide.
I cant wait, tell me how I can create a custom Emui 3 rom for L10?
- As above its not recommended due to differences in hardware.
- Also if members here knew how to make a proper custom Emui 3 roms, they would already be on these forums not waiting for someone to ask for a guide on how to create one.
What models are currently officially supported with Emui 3?
Will update when more info comes in.
L00 / L05 / L07 / L10 *BTA*
Can I root Emui 3 on my device?
Currently I don't see a method for doing that but i'll update when something is linked to me.
Can I use Xposed on Emui 3?
- From what I can see it's not properly compatible with our phone and has issues with the launcher breaking stuff.
- It is not worth the hassle causing issues to the system and breaking system things and potentially bricking of your device just to for example change the navbar size and auto hide it.
- Auto navbar hide can be done with the GMD autohide app, no rooting is needed to use this.
Can I use a custom recovery on Emui 3?
Currently I don't see a method for doing that but i'll update when something is linked to me.
Current Issues with Emui 3
- I'll post some of the big Emui 3 issues affecting users here.
- Sometimes music player will start playing a local file randomly when you have a different music app running like digitally imported, while using the smart cover.

Noticed with Emui 3 there are only 2 themes with it Magazine and Balance would be nice to see more themes if anyone could make some or find any around the place that work.
Custom lock screen widgets are gone in Emui 3 I noticed and you're left with a music widget when playing music and there magazine slideslow I haven't looked at the new version of that yet..
The Smart cover now has a preset theme to it and a set background image which doesn't show that part of the background of your homescreen anymore.
Music on smart cover now shows images which is nice.
There's a slightly annoying option automatically set to default you might want to turn off in "Settings / (Apps) More / Call / Quick Calling" what quick calling is, its when you press the volume down button with the screen off it goes into voice activation where you can say the name of person to call and it will automatically ring them. I had it randomly happening (lucky no-one was called) and didn't know what it was at first.
The new Lollipop style navigation buttons and dynamic navigation bar is a nice touch if only smart cover background was dynamic also.
The new recents screen is a nice change also.
Also wifi seems to have gotten better on this rom from the OTA before it on L00 I used to get loads of dropouts, yesterday however was pretty stable when I was out and will test it more over the next few weeks.
Overall I find Emui quite pleasant to use no real issues from me, battery life a day 12 hours uses 11% on idle with background wifi on thats not being in use at all with zero activity on messages and calls which I rarely get.
Would love to hear all your experiences with it.

the balance theme is available for emui 2.3 Also..same like in 3

Yea there's some things between versions like Magazine theme etc, I hope more themes are made.
3G was ok again today some minor hiccups like last time but not as many as the previous roms had I have 4g and will use that when in range3g has more coverage and is more stable on reception.
Here is Emui 3 in Images from my device I resized the images down from 1920x1080 to 800x450, I can get any more images if needed.
Note the images look like Lollipop but are 4.4.2 as Huawei skinned the navigation Lollipop style.
Smart cover on a music app showing static background, I would love to have my own background there.
Default smart cover screen has a circle clock with a glowing ring for second's that rotates around.

Normal lockscreen with music app the blur changes to the image from the music you have on its a nice touch, you can't have your own lockscreen widgets though.
When music isn't playing the homescreen wallpaper shows without the blur.
Lockscreen with the draw pulled up.
Homescreen, my main center one with clock I have calendar on left and right is my app screens.
One of my homescreens with apps.
Notification screen This looks quite nice.
Quick launch screen, Something today I noticed recommended system apps to use while the headphones are plugged in.
At first I thought they were kinda adverts, recommended apps to download from the Huawei appstore.
But there a quicklaunch to pre installed apps.
You pull down to see all quick launch settings.
System settings with its clean look.
Recents with the pull up to clear all swipe left or right to change pages.

Can somebody give an information how much points this system is achieving (on default settings) in Antutu benchmark ?
Sent from my HUAWEI P7-L10

Just ran antutu I get a score of 26103 then 27317 on second run which is just under the Google Nexus 10 which I got 28719 on only one run.
The top device is Nexus 9 at around 58000-59087 top listed.
It score's fairly decently not as high as the latest devices though.
The benchmark though is more the hardware than the software it's running.

Look so nice with emui 3.0

Thanks!
Nice post!
Thank you!

Just a quick reply back I updated this thread with Emui L10 Bta info and other things and changed the title to be more about everything now.
I feel like these efforts no-one cares about consolidated info and links to things.
I would happy link to rooting, xposed, custom recovery and anything else guides times and dates etc as I have placeholders for when someone gives me that info to share.
If no-one cares about me doing this I may just let this thread go and you guys can have all the info on rooting, xposed, recoveries and other things all spread out again on this forum than being in one single post.
My whole point was to try to create a single thread where I would link to guides for everything to make it all super easy for you all than have you constantly asking for the info which you might not understand.

up, rly need a huawei version for honor 7

Looks promising. To be honest, I'll wait to see "what you see now isn't all" to try this one, but will follow developpement, for sure.
Good luck !

Thanks, I'll definitely add extras to this Currently trying to merge all the different volume levels into one, mainly because I dislike having 4 volumes to keep track of.
Future ideas I'm thinking of are porting the FM Radio support across from the N1 and including this HW video decoding when it's released: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxNWmKKJ0AA&feature=player_embedded
Any suggestions on what else to add? I'm thinking of a bit of visual changes here and there too.
Wow, this video gives me great hopes about playback of videos on Nexus S. Seems to work a lot better than MoboPlayer everyone seems to love (but why ? yes it "plays" many codecs, but videos are playing so slow...).
FM Radio support is a great thing too. I like Tunein Radio app but it uses 3g, and a real FM Radio would be perfect. I had one on Galaxy S and this is hard to do without it now.
I'm always looking for performance and battery improvements, so I think you could focus on this.
I always remove many things from roms I download, to get it as clean as possible, and to let people install what they want.
eg, in your rom, I'll remove TB, ROM Manager, google apps... Everything is on the market, I just let essential stuffs.
If the rom runs well, I'll post my clean version.
But waiting for FM Radio and video playback improvements now...
I don't know if it's included yet, but don't think so since this is based on AOSP, but buttons on status bar (wifi, gps, 2g/3g...) is quite essential.
Also, having battery % in status bar is needed too.

might as well use a CM7 base then -_- since you just requested every feature from CM
So there isn't any plus feature except "fast bootup".

I'll add an accurate battery mod soon, and I can look into the status controls (it was one of my most used features of CM7 after all ).
I'm gonna put together a list of stuff in the changelog post come to think of it, thanks for all the suggestions.

Not every, just 2 features, maybe just one since if I remeber well, there's an option in AOSP to get % instead of color thing. The option from CM7 just put % into color thing. Well, not sure about that, just tried AOSP 10 minutes when getting phone out of the box, before rooting and flashing stuffs.
And CM7 has bugs : go into SMS app, clic "attachments", take or make a video, clic record button... tadam ! Here's a bug !

Yet I didn't see many AOSP ROMs here so I thought I'd post an early version. Consider it a stable beta (0.1.0) Version 1 will be the release with major features.
wow.. im happy to see new developers for NS.. will support you.. its a bit disapointing when seeing not many developers working on NS since its release..
will give it a try 2nt

Hmmm, sounds good.
There are a few things you could add:
Maybe TV-out (Galaxy S)
The bouncy thing when you scroll too far in a menu (Galaxy S)
A few extra wallpapers (Any source)
Dlna.apk (I don't remember the name :O) (Galaxy S)
The extra codecs (Galaxy S)
FM Radio (If possible) (Galaxy S)
Menu option of darker layout to save battery (My mind :3)
Hardware accelerated browser like Opera Mobile 11
Some thing, its your choice if you decide to add anything, but good luck anyway
This might be the best rom after a while
Great to see a new rom in this section, also look to be a very promising one. I have question which i hope you can answer..why are almost all real custom roms using gri40 as a base...gri40 has limited support for quite a few European languages while gri54 does have that support but also includes full support for English ...on gri40 for example there is no Dutch dictionary for the keyboard also a lot of other options and settings are half English/Dutch ..i could understand the choice for gri40 if gri54 did not support English..but maybe i am missing something obvious and is gri40 really the best choice.

seems like a ROM that is going to stay and take a good share among users!

GRI40 is what comes in the AOSP source as far as I can tell. I haven't seen any AOSP roms (CM7, SuperAOSP, MIUI) with GRI54. Maybe its an option somewhere, I will try and find out. I also read somewhere that a rom switched back to GRI40 for market compatibility. If needed I can try and bring over the extra language support if I find the source of GRI54.
@everyone
Thanks for the feedback and ideas. I'm sure to include some of them, also any possible goodies the Incredible S brings to GB. I definitely wont be ditching my Nexus S any time soon, I usually keep my phones for at least a year and a bit, and I will be supporting this as long as I have my phone
Ill update the features list in a minute, earlier today I was working on an accurate battery so that's coming very soon.

Goal(concept)?
Hmm, The question that I'm going to ask you is weird, but I think this is important.
What is goal for your custom rom?
Fast & Stable, as you mentioned on the title?
If so, I'm gonna use this rom for my daily use because I'm a fanboy of that words; fast & stable.
OK. Thanks for your quick answer. I didn't know about gri40 being the only one showing up in aosp sources (i am quite new to this) it was just something i was wondering. Keep up your great work! Very curious how your rom will evolve..

Some good ideas there, some of which I hadn't thought of because they don't apply to me as such
With the TV Out, how does that work? I've never seen it done with anything other than HDMI and Apple 30pin... do you have some kind of special USB cable? DLNA is very similar, I might try that first.
I can try and add the bouncy thing, I've gotten quite used to the glow didn't like how CM had implemented it, bounced too much too quickly. I did previously own an iPod touch so I know how well it can be done
Extra wallpapers are definitely going to be added, suggestions for ones to be included would be helpful, although I have a few already.
The extra codecs will probably come with the hardware decoding support (when its released). Anything in particular? Eg FLAC?
FM radio is already on the list, but good to know there's interest for it
If I change any more apps to have a darker background, I'll definitely try to include a universal 'dark mode'. So far its only MMS.apk I think?

Xperia ZR
Android 4.4.2 Review
-----------------
• Sony ChangeLog •
--------------------
• We’ve been building new Sony experiences on Google’s KitKat release to create some neat / sweet features (if we say so ourselves) – in addition to a few performance tweaks here & there, some of the functionality you can look forward to includes:
• Google’s Android 4.4; KitKat as standard – bringing improved performance & user interface (UI) optimisation…
If you’ve got a Sony PlayStation 4, you might recognize our new user interface – we’ve added the same sleek launch animation and live wallpaper across the lock and home screens. You’ll also spot a revamped Status Bar and Quick Settings… now more intuitive and customisable (also with a fresh new look)… cleaned up to ensure you only get the notifications you really need
• As you might expect, we’re also uplifting Sony’s entire native app portfolio to the latest versions bringing tweaked / improved / current experiences for one and all… some of our favourites look like:
• Messaging – a few UI adjustments here & there, including a slicker “send” animation, and deeper Emoji support for some expressive fun… also worth noting, you’ll find smileys wherever there’s an app with a keyboard
• Email – you’ll be able to both load and see more mails… but don’t fret, navigation of said load is easier with a more responsive viewing pane – split screen modes divide info for easy digest… especially useful / works a treat on Xperia Tablet Z
• Smart Social Camera – our social imaging experience makes its debut on our first Z Series devices; a selection of Xperia Camera apps directly accessible from your viewfinder… including personal favourite “Creative Effect”, and more for download to boot!
• Battery STAMINA Mode - level-upping our unique power management feature, bringing smarter data management & more for prolonging your juice
• Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies, with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration* – a more converged and full Sony entertainment experience – Sony Entertainment Network & PlayMemories integration with a more intuitive UI, better download speeds, and more…
• And proving pretty popular, now totaling over 2 million downloads (!) – our unique custom interface experience: “Xperia Themes”, with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select – skin up to 280 assets across your Xperia smartphone with a variety of styles…
• Compatibility with our SmartWear Experience; SmartBand SWR10 and Lifelog app – enabling you to record social, physical and entertainment activities and have them all visualised in a beautiful interface… reminisce at that past, make the best of the present and plan for the future
Source
• User Interface •
-------------------
• The Kitkat update brings the Xperia Z2 UI (Sirus UI), Gradient Statusbar & NavigationBar, Live Wallpaper, New Lockscreen effect and much more..
Note : In Screenshots I'd changed the NavigationBar icons using Xposed Framework, So the stock one is just the default Xperia
• The Gradient Translucent Bars gives you great Fullscreen Experience
• Totally New Notification Drawer with 2 Taps style
• A little enhanced Call Screen with new After-Call Screen
• New Features Added like Printing, managing Notifications, Changing StatusBar Icons
• Camera, it just brings the new Creative effects which replaces Perfect effects
Sony said that the camera had improved a lot in 4.4, but for me i feel like it's the same as 4.3
Still 4.1 & 4.2 was faster in taking pics
• New emojis integrated in the Smileys button in the new Xperia Keyboard, You can use them in contact names, Notes..etc
• Immersive Fullscreen Mode (which hides the StatusBar & the NavigationBar to feel the real Fullscreen experience)
To enable Immersive mode in apps that don't support see below in the "Annoyances"
• Sony New Media Apps.. they are not included in the update, but we should receive an OTA update for these apps in this week
i already received the New Album (will be reviewed when all got the update)
• No What's New app found !
• No "Clear Apps" in Recent Apps menu !
• Benchmarks •
--------------
I used Antutu & Quadrant Benchmarks..
I got 21K Score in Antutu
• Battery Life Test •
-------------------
Hard Use Battery Test
It lasts for ~12h Hard Usage
~11h Both WiFi and Data enabled
5h+ Screen on
~1h Voice Calls
Another Hard Battery Usage by @nbrian2012
Lite Battery Usage Test
Lasts for 2 days, 7 Hours !!
Thanks to @BobLC
• Bugs/Annoyances •
-----------------
• Scroll Lagging in Settings App & Notification Drawer
FIX : go to Settings>About, and tab on the "Build Number" 5 times to enable Developer Options
Then go to Settings>Developer Options, Enable "Force GPU rendering"
• WiFi appears to be always on even when i switch it off
FIX : go to Settings>Wi-Fi>Advanced, Disable "Scanning always available"
• Google Play Services is draining ~50% of Battery
FIXED : Just install the latest Google Play Services update, and the issue will be solved permanently
• Can't move/delete anything from the external SD Card using third party file managers
FIX requires root : Install Xposed Framework, and install module called "Handle External Storage"
• Immersive Mode is not working in all apps
FIX requires root : Install Xposed Framework, and install module called "Force Immersive Mode"
• Keyboard lagging - Needs Confirmation
It happens because of an update for "Xperia Keyboard"
Fix/Workaround : Uninstall updates for Xperia Keyboard, just stay with the factory one until next fixed update to be released
• Conclusion •
------------
Sony is really doing a great job not only the User Interface, but also in the user experience and Media Apps..
Of course a lot better than other Manufactures that only update the android version and nothing more !
When comparing from Sony Xperia FW JB 4.1 to 4.2 to 4.3 and now to 4.4
you'll see the big improvement between them..
I believe that the previous 4.1/4.2 firmwares were more stable/faster (not smoother) ,but still the new updates are recommended !
In this particular time, i think that Sony will focus on fixing all the bugs in the 4.4 Kitkat, since it's the latest Google Android version.
I hope that we'll receive a bug fix update in the next month
Thanks Sony for supporting our device

Thanks for the review.
There is no lag here folks. Everybod is dissing the new FW on forums, but it is not bad at all.
Our phone should be able to handle this and it actually does a great job!!!
I use Swype and completely uninstall any other keyboards but all keyboards lag if you type damn quick.
For card-write permissions, is Xposed Framework the solution, guys?? (like recommended here)

I use Swype and completely uninstall any other keyboards but all keyboards lag if you type damn quick.
For card-write permissions, is Xposed Framework the solution, guys?? (like recommended here)

That's weird
but i think this is because you're a gamer, aren't you ?!
Games are the most battery draining, my battery reviews only focuses on normal usage like chatting, browsing, calling..etc
But when i play "Clash of Clans" for 10-15 mins, the battery drops 5-7 %
Oh thank goodness I though my battery was defective
Although I didn't buy a quad-core phone to use it for calls

Yes, you're right, but any battery test only focuses on the normal usage for the device, and also when i play a game i feel that the battery in a bit better that 4.3
Ehm, About gaming actually you can't feel it better it's a physiological feeling as it is full screen but actually now your mobile renders 120X720 while in 4.3 the on screen buttons decrease the resolution that was rendered
I made a Picture Test and found that night photography has been improved alot
Now the green noise is very little and un-noticed
Will post photos later
thanks for your review. some agree with you.
but, i don't find lag with keyboard, bcause i type slow, hehe.
cant write on sd, but foldermount fix it...
media apps, yes they are not updated with the last version.
really love with the full screen..

this battery is not going to turn off!!
GPS was on all the time, just disabled G+. had lots of msgs and more than 6 hours of phone calls (Only on 2G). battery stamina was on all the time, didn't touched wifi but it looks like it going to turn off when I leave the house (location based wifi), had more than one hours of playing traffic racer
Need guidence.
I have copy paste Google Dialer in system/priv-app and set permission of rw-r-r.
But it is now working.
I want to remove it.
May I just delete it?? will it affect system performance?? or any other method?
As long as you have your stock dialer there it's OK otherwise do not

Nokia 7 Plus Indian Variant Issues

Now, I bought the device on the sale date ie. 30th April and the phone got delievered just the next day. I'm running on the Android 8.1 update with April Security patch as of writing this. From the start I've noticed some issues and lags here and there. They are as follows:
Swiping left on the launcher to get to the Google Now page (the default launcher that is the Launcher 3) and also on the Pixel Launcher 3 is very jittery and you can feel and see the lag.
The keyboard (Gboard) is also not that fluid and very very rarely it misses out on some letters of the words that I'm typing.
In Instagram, swiping for story is again very jittery.
The whole Snapchat app is super jittery.
Considering that this is an Android One device and running on Higher Mid-Range Processor ie. Snap 660, this is not expected in any way.
Camera is fine for me and some have also complained about the Bluetooth which I have not yet tested. Audio quality through the speakers and also through the headphone jack is superb. Battery is also very good. Getting 7+ hrs of Screen on time in a day's usage and around 5.5-6.5 in two day's usage. Also Google camera is working fine just download and install Gcam Tool app from the PlayStore so as to transfer and save the photos directly in the default Camera folder only.
Please let me know if you also are having the same issues and if there's any fix for them. I think Nokia will have to only push out an update to improve the overall optimization of the device.

Yeah. That's clearly optimization issues. Everyone's talking about these stutters and lags. Do tell about these stutters and lags to Nokia customer care so that they can fix them in next update. I am particularly worried about the audio quality through the headphone jack. Will get my device tomorrow.

Also, which was your last phone? If it was a very powerful mobile then maybe your expectations are too high. It happened to my friend ( moved from iPhone to S7 and was pissed).
2. Could anyone tell me if using Google camera is safe and how to get it. I don't wanna root though.

I remember reading in Pixel Launcher thread that recent changes in google app is causing inconsistent performance in launchers. I think we have to wait till google fix it or some workaround.
Apart from that I have not noticed other above mentioned issues in my device, so can't comment.
One issue that I am annoyed with is Headset Inline Controls not working while phone being locked. I am using PowerAmp and in-built settings are set correctly. I was not facing this issue on my previous device, so this seems to be device related issue.
If anybody knows any workaround please comment.
Stock android shoulnot have any sort of oprtimisation for any app ,, in contrast App shold be optimised for this . U cant see lag and stutter in most of G -APPS but hangout will stutter a lot. I have seen lag in my OP3T with sd 821 ,,, so

You should have received an update the moment you connected the phone to internet.
Stock android doesn't support system wide dark theme that can be turned on or off manually.
You can always use a 3rd party launcher. [emoji16]

Set a very dark wallpaper but still it will just make the QS panel dark. The main settings screen will still remain white.

I guess the phone needs time to settle down because we immediately load apps and every app instantly starts taking up ram. After sometime, the android system starts managing the system as to which apps need to be in background and which apps need to be killed based on our usage.
Also, initially the apps have to build up cache and that adds to lags.
I am using stock Android from an OEM for the first time and I am amazed with the smoothness of the UI. It just flows. Also, the vibration on this device is better than any other device I have used.
Also, regarding sound quality through jack, I don't know why people are bashing it. Probably, they don't know that the phone has an equalizer too which is turned off by default.

General My conclusions about X3 Pro and ColorOS (comparison to OxygenOS)

So basically I wanted to compare ColorOS and X3 Pro to my old OnePlus 6T with OxygenOS. I was convinced that since OnePlus and Oppo are almost the same company (at least holding) so the quality of the software should be similar. Moreover OnePlus phones in China are released now with ColorOS instead of HydrogenOS/OxygenOS.
I bought this phone cause it is super cheap in Thailand - around 750 EUR/920 USD.
Quick summary:
- no pocket mode, you can accidently pickup unwanted call while taking phone out of your pocket
- directories have app icons on the top which is hard to reach with your thumb (in oxygen on the bottom)
- microscope (cannot see the reason to use it)
- gorilla glass 5 (my OP 6T...2.5yrs old phone has gorilla glass 6)
- speakers sound quality in vertical position is only slightly better than on OP 6T. In horizontal you can hear the "stereo".
- camera/photo quality is inconsistent
Bugs
- inconsistent app search functions in Settings. When you go to the app list you can search easily for the app by typing lowercase or uppercase. When you go to other two places for battery optimization you have to type exactly the app name as it is (if it starts with uppercase you have to use uppercase)
- battery draining (processes are kept in the memory for hours, eg. Netflix was in the background for over 18hrs)
- font sizes are inconsistent between apps, eg. if you set small font size in the Settings, then whatsapp font size matches system setting but font in Messenger is much bigger.
- notifications are not that loud compared to OP6T (screen off)
So basically software on my old OP 6T was better.
I know that all of the bugs can be fixed with the software update but still I feel some disappointment.
And what about the pros ?
Pros:
-screen quality
-120 Hz (but in my case its fixed...not adaptive or I dont know where to turn it on)
- build quality
- its snappier than OP6T
- fully customizable Always On Display
- quick toolbar on the screen (this is a great feature)
- international warranty
- price (in Thailand 750 EUR/920 USD)
I've come to the Find X3 Pro from an OP8 Pro *purely* because I was so fed up with the lack of quality in OxygenOS!
I've not noticed any of the CONS you've listed - the only issue I have being an AndroidAuto one (which I think is actually a background process bug - I'm testing it), but here's my list of PROS
PRO
- much better customisability of the OS, drawer & general experience
- far better implementation of navigation gestures
- proper dark mode and AOD - OxygenOS still hasn't got this right
- camera app is just as good as OP - cameras actually work (unlike the OP8Pro "seethtru" cam debacle)
- far less hacking needed with ADB to get the interface working well
- battery is *much* better than OP 8 Pro
coming from an 1+7t pro that i did like buy dicthed cause of the "poor" update policy (not to mention that the Android 11 update is not only WAY to late but WAY to buggy) , i have only very positive feedback for the Find x3 pro...
the only minus point would be the lack of ColorOS support for non Indian customers/members.. but there is always XDA forums for this
@stuclark @Thorgoth can u guys check for example messenger/facebook/whatsapp summaries in the Battery settings? - i mean the background time.
Can u check in addition if for example gmail, messenger, skype, facebook are as locked apps? You can easily see it in the recent apps list as a "lock" icon above the app/window preview. In my case they were locked by default...which should not happen.
I only have WhatsApp, cost me 1,27% yesterday.
Locked apps:

Some were showing up as locked for me; inlcuding a couple which were most definitely *NOT* part of the base firmware, so I suspect it's the applications being naughty and making the setting themselves
I can turn off all my locked apps though, if that's the concern.

It could also be possible that ColorOS analyzes the apps and usage and tries to be smart.
I have an oneplus 8 pro and installed coloros on it (Official first beta).
Pros:
- more customizations
- Better batterylife
- Nice AOD
- Dark mode better
Both:
- smooth
- camera app same
Cons:
- AOD wake with one tap missing
- Chinese version with Chinese apps and not all languages
- some Bugs (see in the post in OnePlus 8 pro forum)
- often you need to give the apps the permission in notifications, because the system deactivate much of them
But for the first build very good.
Actually if you compare your OnePlus 6T with the OnePlus 9 Pro, you also get Gorilla 5 instead of 6.
I also live in Thailand and considering the prices of late, I honestly do not see the reason to buy OnePlus phones anymore. They basically are OPPO phones with different designs and inferior camera system. Yes, even with the Hasselblad mumbo-jumbo.
The microscopic camera has been one of the gimmick that I actually don't get tired of using. It allowed me to see things I wouldn't normally see, but yeah, that could just be me.
@SuperToMMo im not saying its a bad phone...but it has some issues, even for the price in Thailand which is crazy low comparing to 1150€ in Europe.
Overheating is one...
Battery draining is second one....
Notifications not showing/dissappearing from lock screen..third one.
+ Many others not that serious for me
To be honest this is my first oppo phone and I bought it because I saw it price and I knew that it should be the same as "oneplus".
Flagships from oneplus get software updates and bug fixes super quick and many times within first 2-3 months after the phone is released to the market.
Here...I got one update since my purchase...still many bugs to be fixed - so lets see how the support will look like here.
Not giving final judgement here yet...too soon, lets see.
Overheating and battery draining is mostly caused by some process using up that precious battery.
I have zero issues with overheating. Battery is more than ok.
I had some issues with some notifications not showing on the notification bar, but that had to be configured right. Never had an issue since.
btw, I don't know if there is much difference between the Chinese and International version.

I have the same set of applications as on my oneplus 6t.
Never had an issue with op6t with overheating and battery drain. I noticed that software on Oppo keeps all the apps in background for many hrs. For example: I watched 20 min netflix and the process was kept in backround for 18hrs - same thing with other applications.
After 2.5years my op6t had SOT around 4-4.5hr...on Oppo with the same daily usage I get 5-5.5hrs (FHD only)
I have international version.

TBH I think everyone's use case is a bit different, and also toleration for certain quirks depends on individuals.
It's fair to say that I'm a very light user and especially since Androids have been relegated to my secondary phones now. You know, the thing about LINE app back up not being easily moved from one OS to another, I switched once and I cannot go back.
Having said that, I review phones so I do get to test a lot of them and I try hard to drive them as much as I can. I still keep my Pixel 4XL and may have a chance to use it more for photo starting next month. Still very capable cameras and Google Photo back up is still gonna be "free". The one thing I do appreciate nowadays is how close most Android skins are to the Android experience I would get on my Pixel. I can't argue that Oxygen OS is still very good at that and maybe even the snappiest in the Market.
But it's not rid of bugs, as in quite a lot of them, over the few previous generations. Once I get to use them for a while, I try to live with them, up to a point where I don't really get bothered by most things anymore if they are not too serious and I have found that any phone has its own quirks, just have to make my way around it.
Back to what I said about OnePlus VS OPPO, as I stated my reasoning here. I don't really get bothered with stuff so much so I go back to designs and camera systems which are actually the only real differentiator between the two and I have found that in my opinion, OPPO has been outclassing OnePlus for the past two years. Up to a point where I doubt why there is even a need for a OnePlus phone anymore, when there isn't actually any real niche.
Sorry if my English is not perfect, I'm Thai so, not my first language.
So basically after almost 4 months with this phone I can give some feedback about it...
Cameras...great but missing dedicated macrolens. Im super happy with the pics and the quality.
Build quality, screen, etc...top notch
Software...crappy...really. Getting more and more annoyed by it.
- finger print reader sometimes does not catch my fingertip
- "back" button on the bottom right corner of the screen sometimes does not work. I have to touch or scroll something else to get it working again.
- notifications are not so loud (comparing to old OP6T and brand new Redmi Note 10Pro for less than 290Euro)
- stereo speakers are nice but there is slight difference between them....so it is noticeable. In addition I played side by side some YT and spotify and notifications on X3Pro and Redmi Note 10Pro. Imho stereo speakers are slightly better on 10pro (a bit louder and a bit more bassy)
- missing notificiations on lock screen
- disappearing notifications from lock screen
- notifications appearing with HOURS of delay (its not about killing an app from memory.
....its just about notifications showing for old messages that were already replied by me)
- weak haptic. Vibration for notification is a joke in coloros...no other words can describe that. In oneplus i couls easily choose a vibration schema...here just simple short vibration barely noticeable.
...and some other minor bugs.
To sum up. Im happy with this phone in general but the software needs improvements and bugfixing. Sometimes I think that redmi note 10 pro is a bang for you buck while x3 pro is an overpriced phone (paid 750 euro but regular price is around 1100 euro)
Hopefully ColorOS 12 will fix most of these issues.

Themes / Apps / Mods Rear Notifier App for Mi 11 Ultra

I love my Mi 11 Ultra. It's a fantastic device and the rear screen adds a fun element to a seriously, beastly phone — but I found it ridiculous that Xiaomi completely cut off access to any other apps besides their own when it comes to allowing notifications on the rear screen. No more! With some inspiration from GuyWithRootedPhone and his Mirror2RearUltra app, I created my own app that allows you to select any app on your Mi 11 Ultra to send notifications to the rear screen.

• Pick the desired apps for rear notifying quickly and easily with the made-from-scratch app picker.
• Allow Rear Notifier to restart automatically after reboot.

• And more!
Update 3.0: Always on Display!

Update 3.6: Android 13
Hey everyone! I apologize for the delay in updates, but I've been running another ROM and just busy with life. I came back to the newest version of MIUI to find the app wasn't starting the service and investigated. Many of you may have had the issue of the service never seeming to start. The issue stems from Android 13 automatically denying the posting of app notifications without explicit user consent. Being able to show a notification for the service is vital for Rear Notifier's function. To remedy this issue, I've added an additional required prompt to use the app so there's no confusion. From my testing thus far, everything seems to be working as expected.
The update is under review to the Play Store as I type (6/14/23 1:38 PM UTC).
Thanks for your patience!
Bugs squashed:
• Android 13 notification issue resolved (service will start now)
• Fixed issue with GIFs where setting the speed didn't affect the rear screen GIF's speed
• Optimizations and improvements
Bugs/Concerns
• Whenever a notification is sent to the rear screen from this app, it will cause the default clock to disappear until the native rear display apk chooses to refresh itself. At the moment, there's no way that I'm aware of to bring back the native clock on-demand, but that's what my own implementation of the clock is for
Developed and Tested on:
Device: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra (Obviously)
ROM: Xiaomi.EU 14.09.0 Stable
Android Version: 13
MIUI Only!

Feel free to send me any ideas or issues you have on different MIUI versions and I hope all my fellow Mi 11 Ultra brethren enjoy!

• Stopping the service once it's been started from the app sometimes doesn't work. When this happens, just force close the app.

Future Ideas:
Since the default clock is super buggy when using this app, I was thinking about adding my own customizable clock feature in the app, but I have a lot going on right now
so that isn't feasable at the moment. When I have time, I will most likely add it to the app in the future.

My app? Just click the link that says "Google Play Link" and it'll take you right too it.
It won't let me install it. I have a xiaomi 11 ultra, obviously.

That's strange...it supports Android 12 and up and I double checked to make sure it was allowed in the Play store (of course it was). Also, I uninstalled my dev copy just to see what the Play store said and it allowed me to download it.
I'll attach the latest version that I just sent for review on the Play store minutes ago.
When you install it, and Xiaomi comes up with the "App from an unknown source", make sure to toggle on all the toggles to make it everything works properly.

I wanted to have actual notifications on the rear like Xiaomi should have done, so I may as well share it with this awesome community. Good to know it's working on the newest MIUI versions

Thank you! Honestly those are great ideas. Love them! You can bet money that you'll see some/all of those features in the future. My next goal is adding an AoD clock.

In order to use the app, make sure you click the 'Start' button at the top right. You should then see a persistant notification in your notification shade. Clicking that starts the notification listening service. If you don't start the service, the app is useless. That's what the message means Try that.

Start button doesn't start and no perm notification, but I'm receiving the notifications from the apps that I selected
Hope to see you soon on Miui14 hehe and bring a new version of mirror2rear as it stopped working on Miui14 and it's super useful for gcam
Thanks again, the app is really well built and user friendly!

If the service has been started and nothing is working, then I'm not sure what's going on with your 11 Ultra. I can only help if I see some logs at this point.

That's interesting! Glad it's working though lol. Updating Mirror2Rear would be GuyWithRootedPhone's specialty, but since his code is open source, it is definitely possible to update. Thank you for the compliments though
Any chance you can open source your app?
@Chr0m3Chaos enabled all permissions and selected Whatsapp & Messages ....but still the "services" fail to start on MIUI 14 error: please start notifications services first and the "START button" beside APPS circles endlessly. Tried rebooting but still doesn't seem to work for me.
Use a link, which is not setting the region and language:
Rear Notifier (Mi 11 Ultra) - Apps on Google Play
Allow your Mi 11 Ultra's rear screen to show notifications from any app!

First: Great idea, i'm waiting for long for some app like these. The crappy rear screen for me never never showas any notification from apps and timeout didn't work at all.
But second: I managed to start the service and send a test notification, but didn't get some messages from apps. But i couldn't set some apps as apps list is empty, it says fetching apps and then nothing. If i type in search field (say i type telegr..), i can see app field for a very little moment and it disappears. And (but sure, thats what you stated above) the rear clock is gone till i disable and enable it in settings.
So again, great idea and great app, but seems it needs some fixing (and own clock would be great as my timer doesn't work and sometimes clock stays forever using battery ;-) )
I'm on latest xiaomi.eu weekly (A13), so maybe thats the problem yet...
Many thx for developing this app, looks promising
Great idea! Thank You!
I'm testing it and still needs some fine tunning, but looks really good.

Dang that's a weird one. If only MIUI wasn't so flakey with literally everything. I've had multiple people saying it worked great on the newest MIUI releases and a few where it's completely random bugs like that. Not sure what to say without logs though.
As for the clock — I have actually just coded a working implementation of the clock that has the same look and layout w/ the color gradients completely customizable along with a mostly-working weather screen. This will be in a vertical view pager implementation for easy access. I attached a mockup of how those will both look for most part.
I still need to code the UI for customizing the clock and weather though. Expect to see an update in the play store in a few days
