General My conclusions about X3 Pro and ColorOS (comparison to OxygenOS) - OPPO Find X3 Pro

So basically I wanted to compare ColorOS and X3 Pro to my old OnePlus 6T with OxygenOS. I was convinced that since OnePlus and Oppo are almost the same company (at least holding) so the quality of the software should be similar. Moreover OnePlus phones in China are released now with ColorOS instead of HydrogenOS/OxygenOS.
I bought this phone cause it is super cheap in Thailand - around 750 EUR/920 USD.
Quick summary:
- no pocket mode, you can accidently pickup unwanted call while taking phone out of your pocket
- directories have app icons on the top which is hard to reach with your thumb (in oxygen on the bottom)
- microscope (cannot see the reason to use it)
- gorilla glass 5 (my OP 6T...2.5yrs old phone has gorilla glass 6)
- speakers sound quality in vertical position is only slightly better than on OP 6T. In horizontal you can hear the "stereo".
- camera/photo quality is inconsistent
Bugs
- inconsistent app search functions in Settings. When you go to the app list you can search easily for the app by typing lowercase or uppercase. When you go to other two places for battery optimization you have to type exactly the app name as it is (if it starts with uppercase you have to use uppercase)
- battery draining (processes are kept in the memory for hours, eg. Netflix was in the background for over 18hrs)
- font sizes are inconsistent between apps, eg. if you set small font size in the Settings, then whatsapp font size matches system setting but font in Messenger is much bigger.
- notifications are not that loud compared to OP6T (screen off)
So basically software on my old OP 6T was better.
I know that all of the bugs can be fixed with the software update but still I feel some disappointment.

And what about the pros ?

Pros:
-screen quality
-120 Hz (but in my case its fixed...not adaptive or I dont know where to turn it on)
- build quality
- its snappier than OP6T
- fully customizable Always On Display
- quick toolbar on the screen (this is a great feature)
- international warranty
- price (in Thailand 750 EUR/920 USD)

I've come to the Find X3 Pro from an OP8 Pro *purely* because I was so fed up with the lack of quality in OxygenOS!
I've not noticed any of the CONS you've listed - the only issue I have being an AndroidAuto one (which I think is actually a background process bug - I'm testing it), but here's my list of PROS
PRO
- much better customisability of the OS, drawer & general experience
- far better implementation of navigation gestures
- proper dark mode and AOD - OxygenOS still hasn't got this right
- camera app is just as good as OP - cameras actually work (unlike the OP8Pro "seethtru" cam debacle)
- far less hacking needed with ADB to get the interface working well
- battery is *much* better than OP 8 Pro

coming from an 1+7t pro that i did like buy dicthed cause of the "poor" update policy (not to mention that the Android 11 update is not only WAY to late but WAY to buggy) , i have only very positive feedback for the Find x3 pro...
the only minus point would be the lack of ColorOS support for non Indian customers/members.. but there is always XDA forums for this

@stuclark @Thorgoth can u guys check for example messenger/facebook/whatsapp summaries in the Battery settings? - i mean the background time.
Can u check in addition if for example gmail, messenger, skype, facebook are as locked apps? You can easily see it in the recent apps list as a "lock" icon above the app/window preview. In my case they were locked by default...which should not happen.

I only have WhatsApp, cost me 1,27% yesterday.
Locked apps:

Some were showing up as locked for me; inlcuding a couple which were most definitely *NOT* part of the base firmware, so I suspect it's the applications being naughty and making the setting themselves
I can turn off all my locked apps though, if that's the concern.

It could also be possible that ColorOS analyzes the apps and usage and tries to be smart.

I have an oneplus 8 pro and installed coloros on it (Official first beta).
Pros:
- more customizations
- Better batterylife
- Nice AOD
- Dark mode better
Both:
- smooth
- camera app same
Cons:
- AOD wake with one tap missing
- Chinese version with Chinese apps and not all languages
- some Bugs (see in the post in OnePlus 8 pro forum)
- often you need to give the apps the permission in notifications, because the system deactivate much of them
But for the first build very good.

Actually if you compare your OnePlus 6T with the OnePlus 9 Pro, you also get Gorilla 5 instead of 6.
I also live in Thailand and considering the prices of late, I honestly do not see the reason to buy OnePlus phones anymore. They basically are OPPO phones with different designs and inferior camera system. Yes, even with the Hasselblad mumbo-jumbo.
The microscopic camera has been one of the gimmick that I actually don't get tired of using. It allowed me to see things I wouldn't normally see, but yeah, that could just be me.

@SuperToMMo im not saying its a bad phone...but it has some issues, even for the price in Thailand which is crazy low comparing to 1150€ in Europe.
Overheating is one...
Battery draining is second one....
Notifications not showing/dissappearing from lock screen..third one.
+ Many others not that serious for me
To be honest this is my first oppo phone and I bought it because I saw it price and I knew that it should be the same as "oneplus".
Flagships from oneplus get software updates and bug fixes super quick and many times within first 2-3 months after the phone is released to the market.
Here...I got one update since my purchase...still many bugs to be fixed - so lets see how the support will look like here.
Not giving final judgement here yet...too soon, lets see.

Overheating and battery draining is mostly caused by some process using up that precious battery.
I have zero issues with overheating. Battery is more than ok.
I had some issues with some notifications not showing on the notification bar, but that had to be configured right. Never had an issue since.
btw, I don't know if there is much difference between the Chinese and International version.

I have the same set of applications as on my oneplus 6t.
Never had an issue with op6t with overheating and battery drain. I noticed that software on Oppo keeps all the apps in background for many hrs. For example: I watched 20 min netflix and the process was kept in backround for 18hrs - same thing with other applications.
After 2.5years my op6t had SOT around 4-4.5hr...on Oppo with the same daily usage I get 5-5.5hrs (FHD only)
I have international version.

TBH I think everyone's use case is a bit different, and also toleration for certain quirks depends on individuals.
It's fair to say that I'm a very light user and especially since Androids have been relegated to my secondary phones now. You know, the thing about LINE app back up not being easily moved from one OS to another, I switched once and I cannot go back.
Having said that, I review phones so I do get to test a lot of them and I try hard to drive them as much as I can. I still keep my Pixel 4XL and may have a chance to use it more for photo starting next month. Still very capable cameras and Google Photo back up is still gonna be "free". The one thing I do appreciate nowadays is how close most Android skins are to the Android experience I would get on my Pixel. I can't argue that Oxygen OS is still very good at that and maybe even the snappiest in the Market.
But it's not rid of bugs, as in quite a lot of them, over the few previous generations. Once I get to use them for a while, I try to live with them, up to a point where I don't really get bothered by most things anymore if they are not too serious and I have found that any phone has its own quirks, just have to make my way around it.
Back to what I said about OnePlus VS OPPO, as I stated my reasoning here. I don't really get bothered with stuff so much so I go back to designs and camera systems which are actually the only real differentiator between the two and I have found that in my opinion, OPPO has been outclassing OnePlus for the past two years. Up to a point where I doubt why there is even a need for a OnePlus phone anymore, when there isn't actually any real niche.
Sorry if my English is not perfect, I'm Thai so, not my first language.

So basically after almost 4 months with this phone I can give some feedback about it...
Cameras...great but missing dedicated macrolens. Im super happy with the pics and the quality.
Build quality, screen, etc...top notch
Software...crappy...really. Getting more and more annoyed by it.
- finger print reader sometimes does not catch my fingertip
- "back" button on the bottom right corner of the screen sometimes does not work. I have to touch or scroll something else to get it working again.
- notifications are not so loud (comparing to old OP6T and brand new Redmi Note 10Pro for less than 290Euro)
- stereo speakers are nice but there is slight difference between them....so it is noticeable. In addition I played side by side some YT and spotify and notifications on X3Pro and Redmi Note 10Pro. Imho stereo speakers are slightly better on 10pro (a bit louder and a bit more bassy)
- missing notificiations on lock screen
- disappearing notifications from lock screen
- notifications appearing with HOURS of delay (its not about killing an app from memory.
....its just about notifications showing for old messages that were already replied by me)
- weak haptic. Vibration for notification is a joke in coloros...no other words can describe that. In oneplus i couls easily choose a vibration schema...here just simple short vibration barely noticeable.
...and some other minor bugs.
To sum up. Im happy with this phone in general but the software needs improvements and bugfixing. Sometimes I think that redmi note 10 pro is a bang for you buck while x3 pro is an overpriced phone (paid 750 euro but regular price is around 1100 euro)
Hopefully ColorOS 12 will fix most of these issues.

Guides on Rooting / Xposed / Emui 3 / Recovery stuff / Lollipop / L10 info and more

I wanted to make a thread for all things Emui 3.0 for general discussions about the actual rom interface itself and the stuff it has
There has been a few threads mislabeled like the thread in here called 25/11 EMUI 3.0 Official Update which was only asking and hoping for a ETA for the L10 model.
And other threads which have been about Emui 3 talk but only asking for downgrade and other things.
No thread has been designed as the actual Emui 3 general discussion thread for talk about the actual Emui 3 system on our phones.
So this thread is here to change that I hope so we can actually discuss the Emui 3 system and try to consolidate posts into one thread.
Below is some stuff I'll think about maintaining for a while.
FAQ
When is the ETA on Emui 3 for L10?
- Beta version "B602" is now rolling out to select people that signed up at this link
- You must be on version B133SP01 to be able to update.
- ETA on final Emui 3.0 for L10 would be in early January.
- Remember Emui 3 B602 can be very buggy as it is classed a beta which means its going through bug testing for pending fixes.
- Do not complain to us if you happen to find bugs report them to huawei through the inbuilt HiCares app.
Why didn't huawei released Emui 3 L10 same time as other models?
- This would most likely be due to licensing and other factors with the fact they are a Chinese company and coding the rom for there own language first to see how things go before doing translation and localisation into the international market and due to language barrier they choose like most people to work with their native language first till they get that done right.
Huawei are too slow and don't care about us :'(
- Huawei is a Chinese company and Chinese is their primary language and as such there local native models come first before there international models. If you do not like that buy a phone from a local company in your country next time,
We are never getting Lollipop :'( everyone else supposedly has it.
- With Lollipop it was only released in early Nov 2014, all developers hadn't had it that long to be able to customise and test their own interfaces and hardware etc yet and fix any issues that come up.
- Also Lollipop 5.0.1 was released December 3 2014 to fix critical bugs that the device can be totally wiped and unusable under certain conditions from the lock screen if you failed the pattern, and most company's know there may be some critical post release fixes.
- Most 3rd party companies still don't have a stable lollipop build and are expected to have their roms out to the general public for mainstream devices around March 2015, 3rd parties without much system level customisation may be out to consumers by end of 2014.
- Only Nexus devices have lollipop initially as there firmware comes directly from Google themselves everyone else has to customise and compile Lollipop for their devices as well as fix any bugs that come up it all takes time before a public release.
What about custom L10 Emui 3 roms?
- This is NOT really recommended especially for end users, till things mature and that is for all roms for all models.
- If there are custom Emui 3 roms for the L10 they would be done by repackaging parts of roms from other P7 models like the L07, or the new beta, this is risky if the drivers and hardware differ between models and is hacky at best and not fully integrated.
- The kernels are released and people are working on building a rom from those so be patient or help them out if you know about linux source.
I upgraded to a custom L10 Emui 3 version and my phone is screwed up I want to downgrade back to stock L10
- Theres a post in this forum about doing that, but personally I don't know how involved or working it is I'll update this when someone links a proper guide.
I cant wait, tell me how I can create a custom Emui 3 rom for L10?
- As above its not recommended due to differences in hardware.
- Also if members here knew how to make a proper custom Emui 3 roms, they would already be on these forums not waiting for someone to ask for a guide on how to create one.
What models are currently officially supported with Emui 3?
Will update when more info comes in.
L00 / L05 / L07 / L10 *BTA*
Can I root Emui 3 on my device?
Currently I don't see a method for doing that but i'll update when something is linked to me.
Can I use Xposed on Emui 3?
- From what I can see it's not properly compatible with our phone and has issues with the launcher breaking stuff.
- It is not worth the hassle causing issues to the system and breaking system things and potentially bricking of your device just to for example change the navbar size and auto hide it.
- Auto navbar hide can be done with the GMD autohide app, no rooting is needed to use this.
Can I use a custom recovery on Emui 3?
Currently I don't see a method for doing that but i'll update when something is linked to me.
Current Issues with Emui 3
- I'll post some of the big Emui 3 issues affecting users here.
- Sometimes music player will start playing a local file randomly when you have a different music app running like digitally imported, while using the smart cover.
Noticed with Emui 3 there are only 2 themes with it Magazine and Balance would be nice to see more themes if anyone could make some or find any around the place that work.
Custom lock screen widgets are gone in Emui 3 I noticed and you're left with a music widget when playing music and there magazine slideslow I haven't looked at the new version of that yet..
The Smart cover now has a preset theme to it and a set background image which doesn't show that part of the background of your homescreen anymore.
Music on smart cover now shows images which is nice.
There's a slightly annoying option automatically set to default you might want to turn off in "Settings / (Apps) More / Call / Quick Calling" what quick calling is, its when you press the volume down button with the screen off it goes into voice activation where you can say the name of person to call and it will automatically ring them. I had it randomly happening (lucky no-one was called) and didn't know what it was at first.
The new Lollipop style navigation buttons and dynamic navigation bar is a nice touch if only smart cover background was dynamic also.
The new recents screen is a nice change also.
Also wifi seems to have gotten better on this rom from the OTA before it on L00 I used to get loads of dropouts, yesterday however was pretty stable when I was out and will test it more over the next few weeks.
Overall I find Emui quite pleasant to use no real issues from me, battery life a day 12 hours uses 11% on idle with background wifi on thats not being in use at all with zero activity on messages and calls which I rarely get.
Would love to hear all your experiences with it.
the balance theme is available for emui 2.3 Also..same like in 3
Yea there's some things between versions like Magazine theme etc, I hope more themes are made.
3G was ok again today some minor hiccups like last time but not as many as the previous roms had I have 4g and will use that when in range3g has more coverage and is more stable on reception.
Here is Emui 3 in Images from my device I resized the images down from 1920x1080 to 800x450, I can get any more images if needed.
Note the images look like Lollipop but are 4.4.2 as Huawei skinned the navigation Lollipop style.
Smart cover on a music app showing static background, I would love to have my own background there.
Default smart cover screen has a circle clock with a glowing ring for second's that rotates around.

Normal lockscreen with music app the blur changes to the image from the music you have on its a nice touch, you can't have your own lockscreen widgets though.
When music isn't playing the homescreen wallpaper shows without the blur.
Lockscreen with the draw pulled up.
Homescreen, my main center one with clock I have calendar on left and right is my app screens.
One of my homescreens with apps.
Notification screen This looks quite nice.
Quick launch screen, Something today I noticed recommended system apps to use while the headphones are plugged in.
At first I thought they were kinda adverts, recommended apps to download from the Huawei appstore.
But there a quicklaunch to pre installed apps.
You pull down to see all quick launch settings.
System settings with its clean look.
Recents with the pull up to clear all swipe left or right to change pages.
Can somebody give an information how much points this system is achieving (on default settings) in Antutu benchmark ?
Sent from my HUAWEI P7-L10
Just ran antutu I get a score of 26103 then 27317 on second run which is just under the Google Nexus 10 which I got 28719 on only one run.
The top device is Nexus 9 at around 58000-59087 top listed.
It score's fairly decently not as high as the latest devices though.
The benchmark though is more the hardware than the software it's running.
Look so nice with emui 3.0
Thanks!
Nice post!
Thank you!

Just a quick reply back I updated this thread with Emui L10 Bta info and other things and changed the title to be more about everything now.
I feel like these efforts no-one cares about consolidated info and links to things.
I would happy link to rooting, xposed, custom recovery and anything else guides times and dates etc as I have placeholders for when someone gives me that info to share.
If no-one cares about me doing this I may just let this thread go and you guys can have all the info on rooting, xposed, recoveries and other things all spread out again on this forum than being in one single post.
My whole point was to try to create a single thread where I would link to guides for everything to make it all super easy for you all than have you constantly asking for the info which you might not understand.
up, rly need a huawei version for honor 7

Note 4 Battery life improvement

Powersaving / extend battery life
On rooted and non-rooted Note 4 devices.
There are quite a few battery saving tools on the playstore market. However, most of these tools only use what your device can already do by itself. Besides that, it is one more app that can and will consume power so the overall effect of these apps is very limited.
Here is a lot of stuff you can do by yourself to save power and increase battery life. Although most forum users will already have some knowledge on the way your phone works I will begin this post with the most obvious tips on power saving.
Obviously, the list below is a list of possibilities, and not a list of stuff you should do immediately while reading this post. Just look carefully which functions you really use which you don’t. Every option can save a little bit of battery, but together they make quite a difference.
I am quite a heavy user and at this point my phone can do 1,5 to 2 full days without a charge.
General:
1 Turn your GPS of if you are not using it
2 Turn your Wifi of when not using it
3 Turn your Bluetooth of when… (you get the idea)
4 Same goes for NFC
System settings:
Display and wallpaper:
Use auto brightness and set it to your liking. There 10 different levels of auto brightness. I have found that level 2 or 3 is not only sufficient but friendlier to my eyes.
If you really want to get most out of your battery, it’s possible to have a completely black wallpaper image. Black doesn’t take any power so this will save you a lot during a full day of work. I always have one black wallpaper in my preferred wallpaper list.
Smart stay. With smart stay on, the device will stay on while looking at it. Now you can reduce the screen time out mode to 15 seconds. Actually works pretty well and saves a lot of power.
Activate auto adjust screen tone.
Turn daydream off.
Turn led indicator off.
Touch key light duration on “always off” or 1,5 seconds.
Increase touch sensitivity off.
Lockscreen:
It really helps if your lock screen just has a black wallpaper.
Unless you really need to, don’t make your screen lock too complicated. The fingerprint scanner seems pretty cool but really isn’t. It often takes several swipes to get it to work and that takes power as well.
Personally I use non at home and a simple pattern outside. I use the tasker app to automate this but I will talk some more about specific apps after the general settings.
Multiwindow:
Although the multi-window function is one of the things that makes the Note series the king of Phablets, a lot of users hardly ever use these functions. If you are one of these users, turn this function off. The hone keeps checking which apps you can or can’t use in this function evertime you open an app, or open your recent apps. This takes power and CPU.
Even if you are a multi window user, the 2 listed options:
Open in split screen view & pop up view shortcut aren’t used by many. If you don’t use them, turn them off.
S pen:
Same thing here, look at the options You really use during the day.
I do find Air command a very useful function and personally I always keep it on. If you don’t use it, you know what to do by now.
Under Air view there are the following options to turn off if not used by you:
Information preview / Preview info, extend text, or enlarge pictures hovering over them
Icon Labels / View the labels of icon by hovering over them
List scrolling / Scroll up or down by holding the pen over the edge of the screen
Link preview / Hovering over a link will show you a preview of the page
Air menu / Hover the pen over the action or attach button to add content or contacts
Motions and gestures:
Again. Turn everything off that you are not using.
Direct call / By bringing the phone to your ear it will call the contact on the screen
Smart alert / Device will vibrate when you pick it up to notify you about missed calls and messages
Mute/pause / I don’t think this option will affect your battery life
Palm swipe to capture / I have no idea who thought this would be a good option to add. Turn it off if you agree.
Cloud:
I have rooted and installed ROMS and apps on many phones of friends. What seems odd to me is that most people have at least 3 cloud storage spaces were the automatically store all their pictures. Some them even had 4 or 5 without realizing.
1 Samsung account,
2 Picasa / google,
3 Dropbox.
One of these will do just fine. You can have more but just don’t let them auto-upload your camera pics. If every picture you take has to upload to 3 or more different cloud spaces, your device will be working more than it should have to.
Backup data:
Same story. Pick one. Stick to it. Don’t have 3 backup accounts.
Accessibility:
Vision and hearing / Turn off unless you need them
Dexterity and interaction :
• Assistant menu / Off
• Air wake up / Off
• Press and hold delay / 0.5 seconds
• Interaction control / Off
Direct access / Off
Answering / ending calls / Look at what suits you best. Picking up quickly will save battery over the phone ringing longer.
Powersaving:
Whats in a name ha? The powersaving mode can be adjusted which means you can get to saave power in the way you find most efficient.
The options are:
1 Restrict background data.
• This option limits the stuff you can do on your phone rather drastically. Dowloading content, viewing multi media and sending messages. Personally I never use this as this makes my phone just as useless as a phone with an empty battery 
2 Restrict performance, which has 4 sub options:
• 1 CPU performance / This machine has enough power to do pretty much everything with this option on except for some high performance games perhaps.
• 2 Screen output / Usefull to have turned on when in need of extra battery life.
• 3 Turn off touch key light / Usefull to do when needing power.
• 4 Turn of GPS / Which I already only turn on when needed.
3 Grayscale Mode
• This option doesn’t affect your performance but just makes you entire phone black and white. This grayscale mode saves a lot of power and you will still be able to do all the work stuff like browsing, mailing, texting, etc…
Ultra power saving mode:
In this mode your phone can last for several days but its use is very limited. You can browse the web, call and text but that’s pretty much it.
I think this would come in very handy if the end off the world has come, all power is gone, and you want to be the very last person to send a text 
Just kidding. If this is what gets you home on a few percent of power, it comes in very handy.
Look at the standby time when you turn it on. It’s amazing how long a phone can last in this mode.
Widget use:
Widgets can save or cost you power. There are very useful widgets that give you quick access to wifi, GPS, Bluetooth and other power saving stuff on your home screen. Besides easy access you will become more awre of the fact that you have a lot of stuff on that really doesn’t need to ben on at the moment.
Other widgets can cost you lots of power and data. This mainly depends on the amount of data the widget has to download and the refresh interval. For example: If you have a Facebook widget on one of your home screens that refreshes every 15 minutes, that means it will go and download new content from facebook every 15 minutes. This costs you data (when not on Wifi), but also battery life.
So look carefully at the widgets you use before installing them on your homescreens if you want your battery to last.
Launchers and home screens:
By organizing your favorite and most used applications you will be able to open them faster and so it will shorten your screen on time.
Personally, I think you should be able to open every app within 2 seconds. If you have many apps, and the only way to open them is scrolling to several pages of app drawer, your doing something wrong.
The beauty of Android is the fact that it is the most customizable system out there so use it! Combine widgets, apps, shortcuts, and folders until you have everything within reach.
When using TouchWizz launcher, it really helps to turn of Briefing on your home screen. This makes the phone slower and it costs battery life and data usage.
Many Samsung users have come to terms with the fact that TouchWizz will never be the best launcher out there (And that’s the understatement of the [email protected]&1ng century).
That’s why most heavy users will install a third party launcher as a home screen replacement. The one most used is probably Nova Launcher.
Playstore link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Youtube tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO52dfFm40o
I have found after installing this launcher and setting it up, my battery life increased with 7-9% on a full days use. At this point I haven’t figured out if this is only because I navigate more efficiently, or that there are other reasons aswel.
The benefit of a third party launcher is more customization for your home screens and app drawer (such as making categories is the app drawer and such). But also to have gesture control, for example: Have apps open when swipning up or down, with one or multiple finger, double tap, home button and so on.
This gives you much easier and faster acces to your most used apps.
Other usefull apps for powersaving:
Tasker is an app that lets you automate tasks on your phone. For example letting your phone detect when you are at home, and automatically turn on wifi, turn of GPS and your lockscreen pattern.
Tasker does not have to let GPS run for these task and can also turn everything around when you leave home. The amount options on tasker is pretty much unlimited and these automated tasks can save a lot of power thus increasing battery-life .

Tasker is not an easy to use in 2 minutes app. It will take some time and effort to really get into it, but beside winning a lot of battery life, it will let you automate pretty much anything you can think of.
Rooted users:
For rooted users there are many more options to save power and increase battery life.
I am just going to mention a couple:
• Limiting your CPU frequency. Your note 4 has a surplus of power and you will never need it all unless you play high performance games. You can limit the frequency completely, or make profiles that change the frequency as your battery level decreases. Personally I use the app SetCPU to do this.
Playstore link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking
• Freezing or uninstalling bloatware. A lot of stuff on your android phone you will never use. I always use Chrome as my browser so I won’t keep the original browser Samsung gave me on my phone. This goes for many apps. I use 2 applications to freeze and/or uninstall apps from my phone to free up memory, RAM and save battery life:
SD Maid (also limited functions for non rooted users)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.sdm
Titanium Backup (also the best backup app I have found sofar)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Both these apps let you freeze and uninstall bloatware. Be carefull though! Do not just start deleting everything that doesn’t look familiar, or you will get in trouble.
Freeze apps first and see if ervything keeps working. Then make sure you do a Nandroid backup within TWRP or CWM recovery before definitely uninstalling apps.
There are several lists available on the web which show what can possibly be frozen and/or deleted. This is one I found quite useful:
http://www.reddit.com/r/galaxynote4/comments/2pgiib/the_ultimate_list_of_removablefreezable_bloatware/
Custom ROMs:
There are many custom ROMs that are more friendly for your battery then the stock firmware. However, if you are new to rooting and installing custom ROMS please be carefull and watch the tutorials before you start flashing away.
A good site to begin is:

great post thank you!! I wonder if you could share how much did you limit the CPU and if you you'd recommend any ROM there is plenty of them but which one worked the best for you? Thank you very much

Thanks man.
I have the CPU set on 1728 MHz without any lag or problems even with multitasking. Only when playing games I push it up to the max.
At this moment I use 2 ROMs:
Alliance V2.2: This one is most customizable and you'll keep all the touchwizz functions. (I do recommend a third party launcher like NOVA or Action Launcher 3 to get rid of the lag TW still has).
CM12 official: This is more friendly to your battery, but you'll have to install CM Spen addon and Note buddy or Spen control to get some Spen functions working. The latest nightlies hardly have any bugs (I haven't experienced any).

I don't really play games so I am alright with 1728
I was actually wondering how does CM works with S Pen thank you for the info I will definitely try both of them

There 10 different levels of auto brightness. I have found that level 2 or 3 is not only sufficient but friendlier to my eyes.

Can you explain how to change the auto brightness level? All I see is the "auto" checkbox and that's it. No way to adjust the auto brightness level. I can adjust the brightness manually though, but that isn't "auto".

When pulling down your notifications, you'll see a slider and a checbox as you can see see in thee pic below. (It might look different becausse I'm running Alliancerom).
If the checkbox is ticked, you can adjust the slider for different levels of autobrightness. Without the checkbox ticked, you change the screen brightness directly.

I'm on stock and with Auto checked, it becomes unchecked when you adjust the slider. Thus, adjusting the slider only forces it into manual brightness.
Edit: and I'm on the n910a
Didn't know that. Did not spend much time on stock. Sorry....

Nothing like that happens on the snapdragon one. And i can bet it shouldn't happen on Exynos as well. This feature has been the same for years, and has worked very well; there is no reason to change it on any variant now.
Recheck that your rom is not messed up.

My firmware is via ATT OTA, so it isn't messed up. I can't even flash anything since the n910a isn't rootable. The way my brightness slider is now is also how it was on Kitkat, and all ATT models are like mine.
It's just that when you mentioned the different auto brightness levels, I thought that maybe there was something I was overlooking in my settings. Apparently not, since your type of autobrightness was apparently adjusted by ATT.

Yup, must be ATT setup, although it makes much more sense the default android way.
Wonder why they decided to change it
My battery life on my note 4 is truly awful and I genuinely have no idea what's doing it, without fail it'll die like half way through the day when I only really use it for reddit and WhatsApp, I've heard by a lot of people that snapchat is really bad for battery. Whenever I look at these battery apps they never seem to tell me though, my screen on time is always atrocious and everyone else is getting like 6 hours, I use alxedandr rom btw, I also get lags here and there and I have no idea why can anyone help

Most people are having problems with Google Play services drain. It's causing poor battery life because it's stopping the phone from deep sleeping. Sign out of Google Play in the accounts page in settings, then reboot the phone and sign back in again. Uncheck all the items you don't want to sync for Google.
I'm on lollipop and did a cache wipe straight after installing AND uninstalled the Facebook app. I've got 40% remaining after 12.5 hours. Boc3 seems to be really stable.
If you are having problems with battery drain I suggest you go to settings>application manager>running and kill tasks from there.
I am getting exceptional battery life on my Exynos
just quickly, is there any way to like reset the battery life physically?
ie in the old days, we would often let the battery run flat out, and recharge fully and run flat out a couple times.
and it'll basically give you the best longest battery life after doing this.
I think I just discovered a fix after updating to 5.0, I am running stock just for the info, all I did was boot into recovery and wipe cashe partition about 3-4 times and that seemed to have worked very well battery life is back to normal. Can someone who has this problem confirm?

It was strangely very bad after I updated to stock 5.0, I would lose about 2% every 15min I mean very bad to the point that I was about to do a factory reset.
KK only
For those who cannot identify the battery drain source from the battery setting, disable your alarm clock. The stock alarm clock is causing a huge drain, and it hides itself in the Android System. Not even wake detector could detect it. I did a search, but couldn't find anyone talking about it. My SOT drops by an hour with the alarm clock on.

Nokia 7 Plus Indian Variant Issues

Now, I bought the device on the sale date ie. 30th April and the phone got delievered just the next day. I'm running on the Android 8.1 update with April Security patch as of writing this. From the start I've noticed some issues and lags here and there. They are as follows:
Swiping left on the launcher to get to the Google Now page (the default launcher that is the Launcher 3) and also on the Pixel Launcher 3 is very jittery and you can feel and see the lag.
The keyboard (Gboard) is also not that fluid and very very rarely it misses out on some letters of the words that I'm typing.
In Instagram, swiping for story is again very jittery.
The whole Snapchat app is super jittery.
Considering that this is an Android One device and running on Higher Mid-Range Processor ie. Snap 660, this is not expected in any way.
Camera is fine for me and some have also complained about the Bluetooth which I have not yet tested. Audio quality through the speakers and also through the headphone jack is superb. Battery is also very good. Getting 7+ hrs of Screen on time in a day's usage and around 5.5-6.5 in two day's usage. Also Google camera is working fine just download and install Gcam Tool app from the PlayStore so as to transfer and save the photos directly in the default Camera folder only.
Please let me know if you also are having the same issues and if there's any fix for them. I think Nokia will have to only push out an update to improve the overall optimization of the device.

Yeah. That's clearly optimization issues. Everyone's talking about these stutters and lags. Do tell about these stutters and lags to Nokia customer care so that they can fix them in next update. I am particularly worried about the audio quality through the headphone jack. Will get my device tomorrow.

Also, which was your last phone? If it was a very powerful mobile then maybe your expectations are too high. It happened to my friend ( moved from iPhone to S7 and was pissed).
2. Could anyone tell me if using Google camera is safe and how to get it. I don't wanna root though.

I remember reading in Pixel Launcher thread that recent changes in google app is causing inconsistent performance in launchers. I think we have to wait till google fix it or some workaround.
Apart from that I have not noticed other above mentioned issues in my device, so can't comment.
One issue that I am annoyed with is Headset Inline Controls not working while phone being locked. I am using PowerAmp and in-built settings are set correctly. I was not facing this issue on my previous device, so this seems to be device related issue.
If anybody knows any workaround please comment.
Stock android shoulnot have any sort of oprtimisation for any app ,, in contrast App shold be optimised for this . U cant see lag and stutter in most of G -APPS but hangout will stutter a lot. I have seen lag in my OP3T with sd 821 ,,, so

You should have received an update the moment you connected the phone to internet.
Stock android doesn't support system wide dark theme that can be turned on or off manually.
You can always use a 3rd party launcher. [emoji16]

I guess the phone needs time to settle down because we immediately load apps and every app instantly starts taking up ram. After sometime, the android system starts managing the system as to which apps need to be in background and which apps need to be killed based on our usage.
Also, initially the apps have to build up cache and that adds to lags.
I am using stock Android from an OEM for the first time and I am amazed with the smoothness of the UI. It just flows. Also, the vibration on this device is better than any other device I have used.
Also, regarding sound quality through jack, I don't know why people are bashing it. Probably, they don't know that the phone has an equalizer too which is turned off by default.

faster, smoother (after 14 days to settle down), 10% higher GPU scores on average from diff test/games from the new driver, better CPU management (still far from the maximum possible tho), better single hand usage, better portrait typing (the keyboard is lifted, my hands don't hurt anymore when typing a lot in portrait), overall the one UI is good, battery life is a little bit less for me - most likely because of the new CPU control for more performance, multiwindow is killed - it's like the google stock solution (no swipe from corner to pop-out, no fast split scree with swipe up recents and hold, no menu between the split apps so you can't switch their place without cutting youtube video etc, no hold down from recents to quickly popout or split - you need the stupid menu), sound system is worse and not following google compatibility guide (if it was not samsung, google would not let them cert that version as it won't pass their checklist) - leading to worse audio from something like poweramp hi-res + I feel overall the sound is worse vs oreo (both speakers and headphones). Overall a worth update, because of the single hand usage and the pure smoothness/speed... but it's not a pure WIN-WIN.
I use multi window, edge panel, resize window and good lock
Looks like pie is not for me and I dont have any issues with Oreo
Probably will stick with that
Yeah, I'd say you're just going to get the same responses that are in the other half dozen similar threads. Personally I love Pie. There's a minority that doesn't. Every single one of them started s thread to ask others if they also disliked it and wanted to downgrade.

Question How do you feel after the new update?

As topic mentioned, how's the battery performance, notifications or the camera changes?
For me pretty much the same as earlier update
If they could just fix the dark theme notification issues that'd be great.
Or give us the bootloader unlock so we can root and fix the phone ourselves would be ideal as well.
So far I deeply regret purchasing this phone due to missing notifications all the time.
Following as I'm curious about the changes too. Haven't pulled the trigger just yet as I need a functional device for now.
@blabba missing in what way? Sounds like something is not configured correctly. Besides floating notifications not working for WhatsApp, I receive all notifications as one would expect with no delays whatsoever.
Dark mode has not been fixed? What does this refer to then?

Crap!!!! The ONLY reason I was excited for this update, and I still can't add a card to Google wallet. So it had nothing to do with the security... unbelievable.

@Haskren out of curiosity, how did you get the release notes in English? Is there a hidden setting for it? It's all in Chinese on mine.
That's just how it came through

I told you already not to believe anything Vivo support promises, especially if you chat / speak with someone NOT using Chinese. Basically you could be talking to a wall too. This has been proven now countless times (vivo support promising fixes for dark mode / notifications / battery life / specific apps or whatever and never happened)
And to others - the dark mode fix is for the problems of the status bar previously being broken for some instances (I think until you switch to home screen) when moving being normal mode and dark mode. Some items were missing until you pressed home button (and maybe some other possibilites to trigger this - it was very rare).

Google messages don't show notifications in dark mode, same with most messaging apps I tried (discord, Ms teams, etc...)
I've configured them all with no battery savings, and enabling all notifications etc...
Ironically Whatsapp works fine but I think that's because vivo tests it as it's a popular messaging app in China.
I read on the older vivo x series phones if you change the theme to another English named dark theme, the notifications will work, but it's a mixed bag and I tried that and it didn't work for me so far.
This bug actually is not only in dark mode, but also on vibration mode and silent mode - in case of the later two it's by design.... - also affects connected devices like smartwatch which in those modes doesn't get notifications... (Haven't tested with last update if they fixed those later problems but as they are identical to dark mode I guess not)
Anyone know how to completely disable fingerprint sensor on the lockscreen when we touch it one time? That means it's working like an AOD and stay there all the time. I'm not talking about the option in the settings as turn off the fingerprint display. What I want is to only show the fingerprint display when I double tap on the lockscreen. Samsung has this feature for years to prevent touching the fingerprint sensor and open the phone while we are taking the phone out of the pocket.
Doesn't exist. Same as no option to turn off display on via touch. Missing this makes it impossible to use with screen off in rain as a bike navigation system...
You can only turn off display on by touch by disabling fingerprint all together, which isn't what I want in rain.... Vivo misses loads of such details when it comes to activating or deactivating hardware features.

Weird, I thought to implement it, they just need to throw in a few lines of codes. Like in Samsung, they have a switch to enable/disable fingerprint on the lockscreen to avoid waking up the screen accidentally. With this phone, everytime I take it out of my pocket, it wakes up the screen, even it unlocks the lockscreen if I put my thumb on the sensor area. Not a big deal for everyone, but for me it's annoying.

It was not Vivo that gave me false hope that the issue with Google wallet would be sorted with the next update. It was people in this forum. Not blaming anyone as I appreciate the help, and hope the security update helps other people. I seem to be f*cked though

If I were you, who use a lot of stuff related to google, I would choose S23U instead because OneUI is super stable, nice, smart and logical. I guess it's the best right now. I never have any problems with my S22U over a year until now. Just since I bought the X90P+, I need to deal with a lot of hassles.

Camera way ahead of the s23U. Google wallet is my only hassle. If I get this sorted, the phone is perfect.
I don't know what to do next though, other than changing bank.

I never use google wallet, so I don't know if this is a problem wide or just your bank. Will test out this evening and let you know later.

Okay I remember wrong then for this one. I just remember many people writing support told them notifications will be fixed or XYZ will be fixed and clearly nothing is happening there even though Vivo clearly knows about those things.
And yeah the only thing that pushes them to do something immediately is if it's mentioned by XiaoBai (Chinese reviewer also on YouTube besides Chinese social Media)

You can deactivate showing the fingerprint area to solve this. However then sometimes you will click in the wrong spot. The area is still too small for blind use to hit it right all the time
