[Q] Custom Kernels? - HTC Desire 510

Hey, everyone. Are there any plans to construct a custom kernel that will allow for undervolting/overclocking, governors, or i/o schedules? Are there any means, or is it too early to tell?

Is it necessary to use setcpu on OC kernels?

There are plenty of oc kernels out there for us to choose. But almost all kernels freeze my SGS. The kernels are ya-ok, super optimized, jfs lagfix. I believe other kernels will give me same result
I proudly as a noob want to ask, how to use oc kernels properly? Do I need to install setcpu? If it's needed, what settings should I set?

[Q] kernel flashing for what reason?

Hi,
for what reason do I a kernel flash? Are the rom included kernels better then a lonestanding once? can I flash any kernal to any rom?
what is the benifit of flashing an other kernel then the once ued in the rom?
thanks
When you change the kernel you choose a better kernel then stock.
They are more tweaked and habeas more support fir different things.
**Using my own JPX kernel, z4mod, 345MB Ram and ext2 filesystem**
- Different file system (better battery life) (I'm still experimenting with finding the right one)
- Access to the kernel allows you to use the led backlights on the buttons for notifications.
Those are currently the main reasons why I flash diff kernels.
You can have direct acces to one of the most advance lag fixes around(voodoo) better performance ,overclocking ,color correction for ur display, more user accessable ram and so on

Good question.
Samsung open-sources their released ROMs from time to time and many of the "kernel-hackers" (I'd call them plain hackers, what's with the prefix?) here utilize it to add/provide features and fix bugs (bugs are overlooked by people, its normal).
For instance, SpeedMods' kernel provides an Overclocking support for your Phone's CPU, if you want that extra juice. Likewise, Voodoo provides a set of visual enhancements among other things.
HTH
Another important reason is to regain 2e recovery if you lost it after flashing a stock firmware. This assumes the kernel you choose includes this feature
Fine, thank you all!

[Q] Kernerl and Governor (not a "what is....")

Hi
I have some things regarding Kernerls and Governors, and relax it's not about "what it is".
I am currently using Huexxx ROM 3.2 on a P970 v20N.
Now, Huexxx ROM is based on the stock rom.
So my question is:
1. a) Which Governors are included in the stock ROM?
b) If there are any other, how can I Change to another one?
2. All Governors I've found are for NOVA ROM or CM7 based ROMs, are there any for stock ROM? If so, where?
Thanks
Ps. was looking on Smartass/Smartass2.
If there is one for Stock ROM, please Link

I must be blind.
real life and a forum is not that different. A student, or a any person who relies on web if need or want to know something begins in search engines, XDA is no different.
Kernel Governors, Modules, I/O Schedulers, CPU Tweaks
Governors are Android wide. not just for Nova nor CM. All android phones use them.
You mentioned nova, nova once used scripts in terminal to choose Governors:
su
nova
so zeus:
su
zeus
SetCPU and No-frills has problems with the stock ROM nor modified stock. Never use them.

New Schedulers for Droid 4 kernel

I am looking for the schedulers code of ROW and SIO trying to make a new kexec kernel...
I see there are custom kexec kernels but want to compile my own... I have everything needed
but the custom governors and schedulers...
any help would be great.
Thanks in Advance

[Q] Adding CPU Governor

Hello everyone. I just wanted to ask if there's a way to add a new CPU Governor on a certain custom kernel. As of now, I'm using Forest-HelloWorld-Make-II kernel V1.9.0 AM1, and for some reason, the available governors are only smartassV2, ondemand, and pegasusq. I wanted to have the powersave and performance governor for other purposes, is there a step-by-step/ newbie-friendly tutorial on how to add additional governors? I've searched a lot on this forum, yet I can't find one. Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

Needs to be done at compiling level using "make menuconfig" command.
