Excessive Ram Usage & Camera App lag like other Samsung galaxy phones! - Galaxy Note 4 General

Hello Everyone,
With all my previous Samsung Galaxy devices, I have experienced this lag or delay in Previewing the photo after taking the photo from Samsung camera app. I have used Note 1, Note 2, S4, they all had this lag/delay after sometime of use.
Now I am experiencing the same lag/delay with my Note 4! Its international N910F Snagdragon, I was really impressed with the smoothness and fluidity of Note 4 but this one thing and the Recent Apps lag. When I clear the ram it gets bit better.
So Actually problem could be of excessive usage of RAM which is tooo much! with no app running on front ground it uses 2GB RAM, I am attaching the photos of my RAM Status with all the apps open and also with no active apps, so if you guys can see and let me know if it is just me or its serious problem with Note 4.
Thanks

I have learned from reading the treads that Unused RAM space is a waste. My Exynos is showing very similar RAM usage to yours.

Do you experience the camera app lag as well?
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app

Recent Apps lag - yes. Probably get solved in Lollipop.
Camera Apps lag - no but after taking photo and preview slow open - yes it is extremely.

My RAM usage is usually 2.4 out of the available 2.7, this was very worrisome when I first got the phone but I just kept using it without debloating and I don't notice any slowdowns, delays or lag. Yes, the recents menu sometimes takes about 200 ms to appear compared to the usual 20 or 30 but it's not a big deal, it's barely noticeable, the home screen doesn't have to redraw after playing Real Racing 3, Chrome opens up in about 1 second (which is a HUGE difference, compared to the 6+ seconds it took for my S3 to open) and there's no delay when opening the dialer or settings apps like it used to on older Touchwiz devices.
At the end of the day, I simply forget about it and just keep using my phone, it's been performing better than expected. :good:

I debloat the **** out of my N910U
Turned off every app that can be disabled except essentials
(root) Used "disable service" to disable everything that has nothing to do with my usage
(root) Greenify everything except chat app
forced uninstalled all google app
I am still on stock rom and tw, UI smoothness and battery is much better than stock
but that recent app lag is still present so i dont think it has anything to do with ram
I dont feel camera lag that youve mentioned

[Q] Is it just me or is the pinch overview for the touch wiz app drawer REALLY laggy?

Hi guys!
I discovered last week that newer firmwares like JPK and JPM have a pinch-overview feature for the app drawer. I never noticed this until i read it mentioned in a thread somewhere about the new SGS froyo features. I decided to try it out on a freshly flashed phone and it looked great and seemed really useful to me.
If you're unsure of what I'm talking about, it's similar to how you can pinch the home screen to have an overview of all your current homescreens and from there you can add, delete, move their positions around, or quickly jump to one of them. The app drawer for touch wiz has this as well apparently but just for rearranging panes or quickly jumping to one of them.
However, as I started filling up my phone with apps and gathered about 5 or 6 panes worth of apps, whenever I'd try doing the pinch-overview thing it was extremely slow in scrolling up or down. Sometimes it starts out fine but for some reason chokes up in the middle and sometimes it's incredibly slow to the point it is literally crawling up or down instead of actually scrolling...it's extremely frustrating.
I am currently running the latest beta for Voodoo lagfix on JPM. I keep my ram usage in check using Watchdog and Autostarts so I don't have all too many background stuff going on that would cause the slow down. The phone is nice and snappy in every aspect aside from this.
I use Launcher Pro. TW is Samsung so it's crap.
I happen to like TouchWiz actually but I understand why a lot of people dislike it. :O Maybe I like the iPhone-esque layout. I never owned an iPhone though.
I have just 6 panes of applications but no lag in the pinch zoom or scrolling. Rooted JP6, no lagfix.
Pinch zooming the apps does result in laggy scrolling here too, not very annoying though, since i can still easily jump from first to last page that way.
Yes, trying to scroll the "pinch-viewed" app drawer is painful to watch, and I only have 5-6 pages of apps. This is on rooted JP6 with OCLF v2.
Yeap, confirmed that it's super laggy. Using (official) Froyo, rooted, no lag fix.
Yeah good thing it lags so much that a quick flick does take you all the way to your last few panes of apps without a hitch. The SGS just loses more of its "slickness" though because of the lag in this aspect. If it were smooth and fluid here then not only does it feel and look great, it has great show-off value as well
This is pretty much my only pet peeve at the moment with the SGS. GPS never locks for me but I don't use GPS all that much so I can live. Things still lag for a few seconds whenever apps are installing but it's nothing too excruciating.
I hope future builds optimize this aspect as well as fix the other issues of the SGS (GPS etc. etc.)
Problem went away!
Strange. I added a ton of apps resulting in about 9 pages worth of apps and for some reason the pinch-overview lag is pretty much gone!
I haven't done anything special. If you ask me, I thought my SGS would be lagging a lot more than usual with the addition of more apps. I've also been customizing my homescreens with all kinds of widgets I thought would be eating up more memory/cpu but surprisingly I hardly notice a change in performance! And I'm not complaining that the lag went away. It's great that it did! Now my SGS experience is almost perfect!
I'm still not using any real auto-task killers or dedicated memory boosters. Here's my setup:
SGS on JPM (2.2)
Voodoo lag fix 5 pre4
Autostarts (turns off certain receivers that make apps autostart) - paid, forgot the price
Watchdog (monitor and "kill" running apps) - paid, forgot the price
SmartBar (to turn off certain services) - free

RAM Usage - my last phone with 1gb?

Hey,
i want to discuss the RAM usage by apps especially on our RAZR i.
In the past few weeks i realized my phone was getting slower and slower, it's not nearly as fluent as it was once. It always kills apps when it shouldn't, WhatsApp doesn't run reliable etc (sometimes i get notifications MUCH later than i should and only after opening the app). Well, i have ~70mb RAM left.
Now comes the funny part, i don't think i use that much unnecessary apps. I don't play games, delete not used apps regulary. Easy Uninstaller shows me 96 apps (and yes, this is an unnecessary app, but it makes cleaning the phone much more comfortable - so it is allowed to stay)
So what kills the RAM?
Facebook Service - can't kill - 50mb
SRT AppGuard - to kill Facebooks GPS and Location sniffers - 25mb
Dropbox - Camera Upload - 34mb
Then there is some other stuff like WhatsApp, PowerAmp Service, Maps, which consume ~80mb in total.
Now here comes a special list:
Light Flow - 45mb
Nova Launcher - 60mb
3G Watchdog - 30mb
Lux - finally lowered auto brightness - 24mb
Smart WiFi Toggler - 27mb
SwiftKey - 63mb
Whats on that list? Basically everything i NEED to make the phone run the way it's intended to. This consumes 240mb of RAM. And those are all features that should be implemented into Android (WiFi Toggler, Lux, Light Flow) or run because the original is so bad that i can't stand it (Nova Launcher instead of stock alone because of homescreen alignment, 3G Watchdog [no prediction / clarity in stock monitor], SwiftKey).
Then there's the Moto stuff you can't deactivate:
SmartActions - 40mb
MotoCare (?) - 42mb
This is basically my RAM usage i can't get rid off. I am constantly suffering Android quitting apps when it shouldn't, even when i only switch between Opera / Chrome and Adobe Reader and stay in one app a bit too long it quits the other one. Even my old Desire HD - which had 768mb of RAM - did not do that, admittedly with a great AOKP rom.
How do you handle your RAM usage? Do you have remotely as much problems as i have to handle 1gb? I don't know what i could do to reduce my RAM usage. My new tablet, a Note 10.1, makes it feel even worse as everything runs so perfect, you just know that's the best that 4.1 will ever be. Right now, i have 700mb left. I never care about RAM usage and the best thing is, when i open an app i sometimes find out it was still running in the background, it instantly appears on the screen. The Moto needs a lot longer for it now and you feel it's an overloaded phone..
i got the same problems lol
thats why im looking for an app that kills apps that i no longer need in the moment and just restarts them when i need them (something like IOS does)
anyway some apps that you are using does not use as much ram in my phone

Use Greenify to hibernate Apps if they are not in use. Works great here

I guess it would be the perfect solution.. If I was rooted. I don't want to do it yet, I have to send it in because of the auxiliary port not working properly and I am only waiting for any friend to buy a new android so I could borrow his while the RAZR I is being repaired. But finally, thank you, I found a proper reason why I should root my phone. Maybe I'll try the app on my rooted note 10.1 even though I will never need it just to find out how it likes my apps.
I use an app called Fast Reboot Pro. It restarts all running apps to release memory. Doing this once a day keeps my phone slick. I recommend you try it.

If you don't use SmartActions then you can disable it in the app menu. Should help a tiny bit!

I just installed Fast Reboot and it really does make a lot of difference. In one click of a button everything was like I just turned the phone off and on but it all happened within a second so much more conveniant. And you don't have to be rooted for it to work either.
I'll try this for a few days then buy the pro version.

Go into settings\apps\all apps
Find SmartActions in the list and click on it
If disable button is greyed out then you'll need to uninstall the updates first otherwise just click disable button at the top right.
Oops. I've accumulated 150 apps (need some editing), and run smartactions on my Razr i with, to my surpise, no noticeable slow-down or difficulty swopping between apps on my phone. I'm rooted, so Android firewall disables most of then when running on mobile data (with background data also disabled) but on wi-fi at home and work they all run - 845 RAM being used at the mo - 32 processes running. WiFi off at night though, one running app puts flight mode on. I usually do a manual reboot once a week, just to give the phone a break.
You should instal Pi-Lama 0.3 Most of the Motorola's bloatware are gone together with Blur stuff.
Mh .. I will send it in in maybe 3 weeks. When i get it back fixed, i think i'll do it. What i don't get about most phones on the market is that their hardware is really great but the customized Android is just awful. I don't get it.. Admittedly the Motorola UI is not that bad, but i prefer the stock android look. I find that only Samsung does a good job in customizing their software. Every other UI is unpractical, drains the battery or looks bad (my opinion) ..
I dont know how your Note tablet performs, but my GS3 was awful price to performance, it is neck and neck with the moto razr i and the moto is faster in single-running apps environment because of its very high clock and bandwith of the cpu. However, flipboard used 89mb and touchwiz thing used more than 120mb in total so, no cheers there.
No android customization is good enough. Most of them are pretty but not good enough. What's more, the GS3 died after 3 days, and no engenieer could explain it (sorry for bad level of english), it just died...
Regarding RAM issue, moto services, all in all, use 101mb as i calculated and non-stoppable servicies such as maps location, fb location, whats app service and so on takes up as much as 220mb (a bit less, but just rounding out numbers)
My entire RAM usage is of about +-600mb of 970mb. However, i use a VPN and intra-network app for my work and that eats up another 150mb adding swype and some other things such as ftp servers i get up to 800mb used and it doesnt lag but IT DOES close apps by itself. The GS3 did it too, but its multicore could open them a bit faster when more than 2 or 3 were already running.
Stock JB...around 500-600MB free...
I'm using latest Omar Rom and greenify, about 60 apps installed. When I kill all apps I've got:
Available: 475 MB
Inactive: 175 MB
Which gives me 650MB free RAM (avail and inactive is in fact free). Unfortunately it does't mean anything. Phone is'n as fast as I would like it to be, android is amazingly ****ty optimized. My previous phone (btw Defy) have had 512MB RAM and single core CPU - and with android GB (CM7) speed was comparable - apps were smaller and less "memory hungry" than on ICS or JB.
I'm too thinking about 2GB of RAM in phone (maybe XIAOMI MI2).

I'm really curious, What exactly do you need your phone do faster than it do right now?
I never see any Android Phone run faster than my razr i, the only problem is compatibility with some apps, and lack of development.
( i had a defy too, and you really can't compare defy with razr i)

Heh, I've overclocked defy to 1300MHz, with CM and minimalist theme it worked really great
I want an android phone with constant 60FPS and instant startup of apps. Now on RazrI it takes couple seconds for Chrome to became operational - where it should be instantaneous, switching between big apps also lags from time to time.

who said razr i wont run at 60fps?
to me, chrome is fast enough but stock browser is even faster.. (new opera mobile beta is using webkit too and seems good)
funny thing that you mentioned browsers, cause razr i is by far the best smartphone in any javascript benchmark
i agree that is not optimal for games, but is a great smartphone.
Hi, so I bought mina XT890 two months ago, and currently I habe 98MB of free RAM. I have disabled a lot of Motorola apps, and I think that 98mb of free RAM is too short for a 1GB phone... I guess there is something wrong, some stuff being used underground and I can't see it. My GF has a S3 Mini, and the RAM usage is much better. She has more apps and games than I do...

Do not observe how much free RAM do you have. Just compare how this phone works. It's really Fast and reacts immediatelly even you see only 98MB free RAM. It's much more better than S3 mini.

Samsung Keyboard App causing up to 32% CPU usage

Hi everyone,
My Tmobile Note 4 lags and freezes quite a bit. I've done many things to include a hard reset, but the lag is back. It can get bad sometimes. So I decided to install Trepn Profiler and the CPU usage for the Samsung Keyboard app varies from 10-30% when the keyboard isn't being used. I tried Greenify, but it won't force close the Samsung Keyboard app. Why is this program using the CPU this much when it's not being used? By the way, the Samsung Keyboard app is always at the top of the list on CPU usage.
In either case, what are your thoughts and how to fix this? What's the best way of tracking down apps that cause this beast to slow down and lag? I have too many apps loaded to uninstall them and track down the culprit or culprits one by one.
Thanks,
GP

Honor 5c - RAM problem

I have my phone for about 3 months (i think) and it was working perfectly. Smooth, without any problems. I was using it for some small games (CoC) and social media (Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook). Well, it WAS working perfectly. Everytime I was clearing RAM (closing apps) it was showing that about 800-950MB of RAM were free. Now, after updating to Android 7.0 it changed. It shows about 300-400MB of RAM is free (without any app opened). I am also lagging as hell (specially in Snapchat - it freezes almost completly). I was trying to clear it anyway possoble, uninstalling apps, using stock File Manager trying to optimize system. It didn't worked.... Does anyone has similar problem and/or has some solution? Thanks...
(My first post here, don't kill me if I made some mistake, and also don't judge my English. I am from Poland )
tbh, for me android i did opposite. more ram free and 5% increase in antutu score.

More free RAM doesn't mean more performance. It's a bad habit to clear your RAM. Apps that killed will just come back and more hungry for RAM. Continuously doing this will put strain in the CPU and thus, will drain more battery.

I recommend uninstalling bloatware and keep minimal number of apps . This will save more ram and more juice . Dont use any task killers as they are themselves battery havvoks

S10 doesn't keep any apps open and has high RAM usage

My Snapdragon S10 is having a weird issue with RAM management. Over the course of a full day, basic apps like the Phone app or Textra will be closed and will need to be refreshed in memory when I open them.
I look at RAM under Device Care and there's around 5.5GB used and 1.9GB free. This is much lower than the free RAM I got on my Note 9 which usually has over 4GB free at all times.
I have Adaptive Battery disabled in the Battery settings as well. There's nothing that should be closing all my apps in the background.
Anyone else get this problem?
Think a few of my apps, like Twitter and Samsung watch app are having this issue.

I'm down to 1GB of free RAM now on a 8GB phone...
Apps opened in background right now:
Phone
Textra
Whatsapp
Kiwi Browser
Gmail
Google Photos
No games and no heavy apps. How is the free RAM so low? And in a few hours all of these apps will get closed and I'll have to reopen them.
Anyone else with this problem? How much free RAM do you currently have? And not off a fresh reboot
I have the 12gb version and have been experiencing this. It seems to clear some apps if the phone has been on staying for a couple hours.
I have the same issue. The phone becomes really slow after like 2 days of use and had RAM usage of 6.8GB. I checked in Developers settings and it says that AndroidOS and systemUI use both 5.7GB?!?! Any fix or should we report to Samsung?
I have the exynos variant and apps never close for me. Currently it's using 4.7gb out of 8gb with 14 apps open.
I checked if the apps reloaded and they didn't. Under developer settings it says that the OS is using 2.2gb, Android is using 297mb and systemui is using 246mb.
Adaptive battery is on and uptime is probably 4 or 5 days.
