[Q] Wifi on/off toggle not working after 5.1 Update- Moto G 2014 - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Supersu 2.42 and latest TWRP recovery.
I rooted via instructions on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/xt1064-lollipop-root-t2938051
Wifi on/off slider won't even toggle. I press it and animates, showing it recognized my touch, then it just slides back into off.
I tried all of the methods in this thread already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2619553 , which includes:
creating/replacing file in /persist.img.
Doing a complete wipe, wiped cache partition and dalvik cache.
Restoring factory settings.
I also tried several wifi-fix apps.
Nothing worked. I've been at it for hours.
Please someone tell me I just did something obvious and dumb so I can be done with this disaster.
How do I get my wifi working?
Also, on the off chance this has anything to do with it, whenever I start up the phone it goes into a bootloop on the "Warning:Your bootloader is unlocked" screen. It takes about ten minutes of looping to start up.

I had the same issue on the xt1064. I wasn't able to fix it so I had to reflash and stay unrooted on lollipop.

Sounds to me it is a problem with the wlan driver module, try after attempting to turn wifi on, check dmesg output lines on shell related to wlan also you might want to check the output of command
Code:
insmod /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko
if it reports any error.
My wild guess is it is a mismatch between the kernel version and the module version and/or related to the whitelist it uses to load modules. Maybe your module wasnt updated or something bizarre happened. Anyways the commands above would give some insight.
Good luck.

I'm in the same situation
what did you end up doing? I have the same problem after installing a ROM of xt1033 (Brazil retail) in my xt1032, to upgrade to 5.0.1, My wifi toggle doesn't work, I'm in 5.0.1 but GPE, i have flashed the kernel and the radio, copy the .bin file in persist folder, but without the MAC adress because I couldn't know what was it, tried wifi fixer apps, wiped, nothing works,
what should I do? I've been 2 weeks like this, some help please...

ICS Wifi Issue

I have searched for the past thirty minutes and have not found a solution so i decided to post in the place where every person seems to know the answer to every question. Anyways, my tp succesfully got set up in ICS and WIFI turned on at first for me to do my original setup, but after rebooting to flash the charger fix and new kernel, my wifi will not connect. I tried a fresh install to make sure the kernel was not the issue, to no avail. When i try and slide the wifi on/off switch to on it just slides back and clicking on the button does nothing. I also tried to add the power widget to the main screen and hit the Wifi button from there, but that was also borked. Any help would be appreciated.
Try setting your router to a specific channel I put mine on 9 and it works now. I was having wifi issues after reboot but after setting the Chanel on my router they went away
If I forget my network, then reboot, then reconnect it seems to work fine. I tried a few other "fixes" I have read about and nothing else seems to work for me at this point...
The problem is not my network, its the fact that i cannot hit the "on" button for wifi

The OP did make the problem clear!
Looks like a reinstall may be needed.
try fixing permissions from CWM.
If that doesn't work, I suggest to have a look at the logcat entries while trying to switch on and off the Wifi, you may see the reason for the error there.
What version of CM9 is intalled? did you install any special kernel? What channel is your wifi on? (I changed mine from 11 to 1 and it's stayed connected for days now!)
Try a full cache and dalvik cache wipe in ClockworkMod. If that fails, then do a full wipe, re-install and try again from scratch.
This happened to me when I updated to Alpha 0.5. I had to go back and reflash the bricked kernel which i previously installed. I think he made a change to the wifi settings and if I remember correctly he told you how to go back to stock cm9 if you wanted to. But if you installed bricked before that's your problem, reflash it in CWM
bricked kernel uses a different WIFI module, so you need to have both in sync (kernel and driver).
If it worked on first boot, I presume he didn't change the kernel, so something else must be causing his WIFI to fail (fail to start, not fail to connect)
As we mention before, I will go for permissions, cache and get a logcat for the error
Permissions did not work so I wiped and started fresh for the third time....well I guess third time is a charm because I am posting from the TP right now thanks guys.

[Q] Why wont xposed work?

So, I have an old droid x with the CM 11 rom on it and for some reason I can't get xposed to work now. I had to flash my rom again cause I got soft bricked after trying some status bar mod and now it won't work at all. I had it installed the first time and it was working with the snapshare module, but now all I get is the "framework not installed." I've tried installing but whenever i reboot I get soft bricked so I have to flash the rom again.

Tried that, it installs but when I reboot I get soft bricked. I'm out of ideas other than to completely SBF back to original rom and flash all over again. I feel something may be corrupt. Is there an xposed folder somewhere on my phone that may be causing an error?

I only attempted to load Xposed on my DX for the first time today and couldn't get it to install, but I worked past the soft brick by booting into recovery and re-flashing my system ROM and gapps. (cwm-11-2014-0817-UNOFFICIAL-shadow.zip)
I tried flashing from TWRP and received the following message:
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/cwm-Xposed.Framework.Installer.v.2.4.1.zip'
I made a backup this time and I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong.

I spent some time troubleshooting this evening, checked logs while attempting to flash, and found that the main issue was that the installer script thought that /system/ was at 100% capacity (0MB free). I disabled USB debugging (menu, settings, developer options, USB debugging) and was able to flash through TWRP. After rebooting, the Xposed Installer showed a newer version was available, so I used the app to install it without any problems. I installed a few modules and rebooted. Titanium Backup wanted me to switch USB debugging back on, so I did. Everything seems to be working (including XPrivacy).
Reminder: Make a full backup from recovery before *AND* after you get it working. Make sure you copy the backup to your computer in case you have to wipe the phone.
I hope this helps!

X2 Black screen

Hello,
I did a reboot and now I can't use my phone anymore. I see the Boot animation but after the Boot up, the screen just turns black. I receive notifications and active display is working, also I can start my camera with the twist but I can't take picture because the touchscreen does not respond. On active display or the power off pop up, the touchscreen is working. So I did a cache partition wipe but this hasn't fixed my problem. The strange thing is that after a couple of frustrated reboots, the Boot animation changed to the old animation with the spinning world. I want to reset the phone via recovery but first I need to backup my data. I have very important Data on my phone like whatsapp log or Photos and videos.. I can't connect my phone to the computer because I have a pin... How I can Backup my data and what caused the black screen?
If your bootloader is unlocked you can flash TWRP. TWRP has the ability to decrypt userdata if you have the password. I don't know if it can decrypt the moto x or not, because TWRP only officially support ASOP type encryption, if motorola uses a different technique for encryption it will say the password is wrong. If it works you can browse and backup files from TWRP recovery.
If it says the password is wrong or you don't have the bootloader unlocked, then you are SOL and have lost everything.
In either case doing a factory reset will hopefully fix your issue.

So I did a factory reset now. But I stuck in Bootloop, i just see the M logo. How I can fix it? And no, my Moto X is stock like out of the Box.

After the factory reset bootup takes longer than normal, how long did you wait?
If that is not the case, what model moto x do you have? For example mine is xt1095. Also what version of android do you have? 5.0, 4.4.4, 5.0.2, 5.1, etc?

same issue today
also have the same issue, black screen after reboot. moto voice, active display/notifications are responsive, camera too when twisting the phone. moto voice says "unlock your phone to continue" but i currently don't have any screen locks or anything, just swipe. i have a pure edition running on 5.1. Skeptical about a reset since the phone is still responsive.. tried looking for other fixes, but looks like this issue is just coming up today...
This exact same thing happened to me. Updated to 5.1 about a week ago via the OTA. Wiping cache did nothing. Diagnosing it as a software issue, I attempted to sideload the official 5.1 OTA that's posted elsewhere in the forums. It came back as installation aborted, so I gave up on any hope of keeping my data and did a factory reset. Now all it does is bootloop, sometimes settling on the prone android no command screen for a little while. I can boot into recovery and the bootloader, but thats it. Really hoping someone can come up with a solution. XT1096.

I've waited about 30 minutes, in this time my phone just bootet into the recovery by his self. I've contacted Motorola and I'll send my device to repair.
It's a xt1092 with 5.1 RETDE.
I personally think that this issue is caused by the Boot animation update.

is that possible without adb? If so, can you tell me how?

You still do everything through terminal. You have to cd to your folder that has adb and fastboot enclosed, usually platform-tools. Instead of starting each command with "adb", you'll start with "fastboot" and you'll be flashing these while your phone is at the fastboot screen.
The full image files are in the forums, and all the commands you'll need, in order, are posted in this thread earlier
I have found that some time the fastboot from Moto wouldn't recognize the phone. I, then, use the mfastboot-v2 found somewhere around this forum works great.
Me too faced this problem few days back. Only option left to do was factory reset.
Read below just to go through of what i faced:
( I had gone through bunch of articles for restoring my data but i had a pin lock because of which while connecting to pc it couldnt detect phone.
Other things i tried includes flashing lockscreen bypass zip via stock recovery. There i faced signature verification failed error because i had done it through stock recovery where it doent let u toggle signature verification on/off as in CWM. )
And for those who wants their data back , i found many articles of data recovery after factory reset. But it needed your device to be rooted. All you have to do is after factory reset dont make use of phone and after rooting you can recover your phone by software as EASEUS android recovey, Dr fone android recovery. Thats all .
I am too facing this issue as of last night,, I have the verizon version (complete stock, no root, locked bootloader) and I am not sure how to go about fixing this without losing all my data.. I tried wiping cache but it did nothing.. Can anyone provide some kind of troubleshoot guide please? It would be much appreciated.
A friend of mine is also having the same issue.
I tried the 5.0 image and it won't flash.
I'm locked and without root. Is it even possible to flash even the factory images? (And yes, I've tried to go to the Customer Portal for the Moto X and that isn't giving me anything)
Edit: Finally got it to flash the stock image. Didn't help. Factory reset fixed things.
Note: I had this problem and was able to fix it through a factory reset, but I had to do it through minimal adb and fastboot. The bootloader factory reset option didn't work.
I am having the exact same issue. Has anybody had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a bunch people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?

[Q] XT1072 reboots when attempting to turn off mobile data (rooted, stock rom)

I've had some problems with my Moto G 2nd gen 4G not going into deep sleep. Looking at the battery stats, "Awake" is constantly on, even when in standby.
Yesterday, I decided to root my phone in order to install Wakelock Detector and solve the issue.
I followed this guide to unlock, install TWRP and SuperSU: ipsec.pl/mobile/2015/rooting-moto-g-2014-model-xt1072-success-report.html
I have not installed any other ROMs; just running on stock.
I am still having some problems detecting and resolving my problems about deep sleep, but I also experienced two instances where the phone crashes/reboots because of apps trying to utilize root access. These are:
"Smart WiFi Toggler": when I activate the trigger "Turn off mobile data" at a certain point (e.g., during night).
"Deep Sleep Battery Saver": when I try to put my phone into deep sleep with this app, it reboots after about one minute.
I am still very new to rooting, but it seems like these two reboots are caused by a similar issue. As far as I can tell, root access is working correctly, but for some reason, I cannot use those two apps as I want. The primary reason for getting root access was to use features to eliminate battery drain.
Do you have any ideas what can be wrong?
See phone stats in attached image.
Thanks.
Never seen a reboot when an app request su access, anyway that guide use a recovery for another device ( titan ) not our ( thea ), try flashing the right recovery for our phone, grab it HERE and try to flash supersu again.
You should try cyanogenmod 12.1
Thanks, but I don't think it's the recovery itself, but not sure.
How do I (re)install the new TWRP? And will it wipe the data on my phone (again)?

You flash it like you did whit the titan one "fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img"
No this will not wipe anything
I don't know exactly what diffs from titan and thea, i read of many users who flashed the titan recovery to flash supersu and then go back to stock recovery, and i think to have never seen someone bricking the phone for that, but hey better safe then sorry.

Booting issue after logo? Status bar and back button flashing

So I've had this issue on three separate Pixel 4 XL phones now and I'm pretty sure this is due to my error somehow.
My issue is after the phone passes the Google logo, a black screen pops up with the status bar flashing on and off, and occasionally the back button like this: https://imgur.com/iRzD1Jk
I've installed Magisk and EdXposed to use GravityBox and FingerFace, however I haven't done much more than that.
Flashing the factory image over while retaining data does not fix it, although I'm not sure why.
Factory resetting seems to fix it for a short time, but it seems to always come back, even if I don't install EdXposed.
Safe mode does not help.
I had also recently tried updating by flashing the February image over the January (without wiping data), and that seemed to let it boot. But unfortunately I decided to continue with the exchange as I had requested one before the update was released.
Does anyone have any similar experiences or any ideas for me to try?
Finally I found someone with the same bug that happened to me 2 times. I can't understand why this happens.
The first time happened when I rebooted my phone when dark mode was active, but looks like it happens randomly. I got that in november and then 2 days ago, without an apparent reason.
Looks like some UI related crash/bug, but I really can't undestrand what's causing that. Removing root/mods with a dirty flash of the rom doesn't fix it, only wiping.
Hope someone can point out a way to fix this really annoying bug, or a way to prevent it. It's really frustrating.
Have you tried uninstalling magisk then, if necessary, flashing system images? Fastboot boot the modified boot.img from my boot recovery thread that removes magisk. I believe it is due to a bad or incompatible flash as I've gotten this same thing before.

This happened to me too, I originally thought if was the Rom however dirty flashing the Rom again didn't fix it nor did dirty flashing stock image
What I do know is, this happened to me as soon as forced stopped gms services and removed GMS dose from magisk. As soon as I rebooted, this happened

It's kinda strange because I didn't touch anything for some days, and after a normal reboot this happened.
I tried restoring the stock boot.img from fastboot -> same issue
Reflash entire factory image without the "-w" so without wiping -> same issue
Even reboot in safe mode -> same issue
I don't think it's magisk fault because happened randomly the last 2 times, but I'll give your method a try if this happens again
It sure is giving off system UI crashing vibes. I definitely agree that this is an issue caused by something you did, not something inherent to the Pixel 4. Like suggested already, I would uninstall magisk as a next logical step since you've tried many of the other things I would have suggested. I wholeheartedly agree with Tulsa that this is a bad flash. Since you didn't wipe userdata when you flashed the factory image, the bad flash is still present so it's pretty safe to assume that you have a bad module installed or a bad combo of modules that don't like working together.

Yes. What is the flashing UI? I just ran it on my Pixel 2. It ran just fine. Yes it reboots during flashing as the script reads "rm-rf /data/adb/* && reboot" After it reboots, click on magisk manager. It should say you need to install additional files. It will then your phone will reboot again. Modules should be gone.

Is your phone rooted still? You must have root. Flash the magisk_patched.img again to make sure and try again.
You could also try the other boot image that installs a .disable-cache file.

I flashed both of your images as well as my original generated magisk_patched, and the original boot.img from the factory image. They all lead to the same booting issue.
I can tell when the Magisk modules are disabled because the modules that affect the clock position in the header returns it to its original position from center to left. But that's the only thing that changes. I can reflash the whole factory image and the issue still persists.

What order did you flash them in?
1. Flash magisk_patched.img then reboot.
2. Boot back to fastboot and boot one of my boot images.
If you have done this and still have a problem you will probably have to do a factory reset.

I appreciate you trying to help me.
I did this with the same results.
I am totally fine with doing another factory reset. My issue is that I've been having this issue across three different phones, and I believe the issue has happened a total of about 10 times, the longest time I've gone without anything happening appears to have been almost two months. I'm trying to understand what I'm doing that is leading to this problem more than anything.
When I install Magisk, I believe everything installs to partition B.
The issue is not caused by EdXposed because it has happened some times without it being installed.
I believe the modules I've used each time are:
-IOS 12 Emojis
-Systemless Hosts
-Call Recorder - SKVALEX
I believe I was also using FDE.AI, but I don't think that would cause this until after I pass the unlock screen, which I can't.
I've been using ElementalX as the kernel.
The issue comes up randomly, and sometimes I can reboot several days without anything happening. I can't see anything I'm doing between the final successful reboot and the issue coming up where this starts to happen that could be causing this.
The ONLY time this seemed to have been fixed was when I updated to the February factory image. However I already had a replacement phone coming, so I decided to still send the old one in.

That is a weird issue, for sure. I know of people that recommend flashing factory images and magisk to both slots but I've never have and have not had these issues on any of my Pixels (except on a bad flash).

Question that may be related. Is it normal that I can never boot from when it's set to slot A? Even manually flashing boot.img and magisk_patched to that slot doesn't work. The factory image seems to install everything to slot B and only seems to reference A a few times.

I don't know how old your phone is but the slots are used for when you receive firmware updates and don't change unless you receive one over the air. You can change it manually in fastboot
fastboot --set-active=a
Try that then install your firmware again. It should now just reference B a few times.

Did you have FDE.AI installed by any chance? And what kernel were you using?

Yes, I had FDE installed for 2 or 3 days, and I was using Kirisakura kernel.
Edit: I just found out that there's a pretty big discussion going on with the FDE module on it's thread, same on the arter account on twitter. It's possible that this is the cause of the issue

I also feel that it's the issue, although I was using the FDE.AI app, so I guess both methods of installation can cause it. After the nth time resetting my phone, I just changed kernels and uninstalled FDE.AI and for a solid week now I've been booting fine.
Edit: wow I just looked at the thread and it looks like something went down over there.
