Replacement backs - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know where to get replacement back panel for the Moto X 2014? I thought I liked the leather, but I'm not sure about it anymore. I would like to try one of the plastic ones, definitely not the wood, I've been seeing some disasters from those. Is it possible at this point without contacting Motorola and their terrible customer service?
Before you post a lmgtfy.com link, I've looked already, and I'm not sure if I don't know what I'm looking for, or what, but I found a few sites...
etradesupply, and I think even Ebay have some parts that could be a potential replacement?
Edit:
Moto XT1095, if that makes a difference.

Double sided tape holds the shell on..I have attached a YouTube link, start at about minute 3:00 and you can see the removal process..
The new panel/shells that I have purchased from the eBay link I provided, come with the double sided adhesive already applied..just pull/peel off the plastic covering and apply to device..

Dbrand for leather
Can you use the dbrand skins on the leather? I don't see the adhesive sticking, but what do I know? Lol.

Thanks for the video. I can see why the wood backs are peeling now. I'm totally not going to replace mine if I don't have to, but nice to know about the Sim tray trick.

Has anyone successfully swapped the back plate?

Now that the wood back plates are popping up on Ebay, I'm wondering how difficult it would be to change out the stock plate with a wood one. It looks like there is no adhesive, flash or camera lens in these new backs, so I'm curious how hard it would be to migrate everything over. Does anyone have any experience doing this and want to give me some pointers? Also, if you don't reuse the adhesive, what product would you use in its place? Thanks in advance!
There is a thread in the accessories forum that might be of use to you in regards to back cover replacements.

[Q] Are all the 2014 Moto X wooden backs *real* wood?

I've just received my shiny new Moto X from Texas to the UK in just a few days... Thanks Moto.
I was a little underwhelmed by the walnut back that I chose though. It looks... plastic. Bit disappointing really. We have oiled solid walnut worktops in our kitchen and there's a shimmer from the grain of the wood in the light; you can see texture in the grain. The back of my Moto X looks like plastic veneer in comparison.
Looking at the MotoMaker site again, three of the wooden backs are described as 'finish', i.e. "teak finish", "ebony finish", "walnut finish" whereas the bamboo is just "bamboo". Makes me wonder whether Motorola is pulling a bit of a trick here and only the bamboo is actually real.
Can anybody reassure me that my walnut really is walnut? I'll be very disappointed if it's not, since this was the whole reason for choosing this model.
Yes. They are all real wood, but they aren't the actual wood. They are just stained. The only one that's "real" is the bamboo because it's not actually a wood.
So you're saying it's wood... but not walnut?
(Just for my curiosity, how do you know?)
They are all bamboo, just stained
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/01/1...wood-back-finishes-for-ebony-teak-and-walnut/
For the record, your link doesnt say anything to the fact of them all being bamboo.

You are correct. I read (or misread) that somewhere else.
Thanks for the link, Restola. It's talking about the first-gen Moto X but I don't suppose the new one is much different. What a shame. :-/

Blue Replacement Battery Case

Replacement battery back cover for the Droid Turbo... Ordered it from aliexpress for 18$, being really skeptic about its credibility i was scared but impressed with their awesome service... I am just waiting for a front glass replacement to pop up so that i can make my Droid Turbo Brand New once again!!!
It was a horror story when it fell from my pocket and i rode over it on my two wheeler(Bike)! As i have imported the phone no replacement!!!

And i had bought it from aliexpress for 18$ i am not sure if it was cuz of a mistake in pricing or what but soon after my purchase the price was 28$! I was just lucky i guess....
Wow. That does look nice. How does it compare to the original ballistic? The exact same feel or any differences? Also, how easy was it to replace?
Now I just need someone to verify that the Metalized Back will fit the 64GB and that there is't some memory module or something that makes it need the nylon back....

Never used the Ballistic Nylon b4 so cant commenr on that... But the back seems of really high quality... And has original Motorola Logo with serial numbers n stuff so i am pretty confident its an OEM product... So guess they should feel the same!
Does anyone know if these backs will work for the Moto Maxx (the non Verizon version)?

Was also curious about this. Just saw this update today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/red-64-gig-turbo-t2994543
TL;DR, it fits.
I want to try this but I'm concerned that I'll snap the frame.
Installation was painless. Used a guitar pick. No problems with the adhesive. Fits perfect.
i would KILL for a RED nylon one.

From some of the stuff I read is that there are some slight measurement differences between the devices. BN, Maxx, and the 32gb turbo.
So you all think it's worth the $25 to try this out then, right?
Still nervous about popping the back off a perfectly good phone, but man I want the normal black back instead of this nylon one.

I think that's just because the actual backs are different, but not anything else on the phone.

Real black back housing cover

hi guys, I cant understand if real black back cover really exists. Some vendors sells parts where they say the item is black, however you cant tell from photos if the color is real black or normal midnight blue.
Do they really exists? Or we have to manage with dbrand skins or similar to have a black n6?
Thanks for the info

There is no original black battery cover, but they do exist, just not official ones. You can buy them from ebay and so on.
By my experience some of these covers are nearly identical to original ones, but depends on your luck sometimes...

I just ordered this one the other day http://m.ebay.com/itm/251723199982?_mwBanner=1. Selecting the black one will be the one that's used on the Moto X Pro. Which is almost the same exact phone, just not the Nexus version.

Yes but the black one moto x pro doesn't have the nexus logo , only motorola
Moto X Pro battery cover looks grippy with soft touch material applied on top of plastic. It would work better than stock nexus 6 battery cover. I would ditch nexus logo on the back for a better grip.

Very nice indeed, did the battery door come with its own adhesive ?
@Semseddin Yup. It has this super sticky adhesive already applied. The hardest part is getting the old one off. You have to be really careful. There's some heat shield or something that separates the battery and the back cover. Once I started removal, I used a manicure tool I had with a rounded edge to separate the back cover from it. Here's a good video showing the removal and replacement.

@JR442,
I can take it out using my bare fingernails, being a cell techician for quite a while.. I ordered 3 pieces of black battery doors. 1 for myself and 2 for my customers. I watched a nice moto x pro review on youtube by rozedked. Provides detailed look of the black battery door. I think more nexus6 owners will realize the need of this battery door as the stock plastic battery door is so fingerprint magnet and slippery and tends to get scratched easily. None of these would be an issue with the black soft touch moto x pro back cover.

Did you ever get any more of those? I went to order some more and they're sold out. I did find a place that sells the adhesive backing for them so I could reuse the one I have easily. I just did a frame swap because my blue frame had a couple nicks, plus I was tired of looking at it. Went with the frame from the white version this time.

Thank you! The one I got came with adhesive too. But it gets a little messed up if you have to remove it. That's where I was getting at when I said I found replacement double sided adhesive. Then you can peel off the old, heat up the new. Slap it on and reuse the same battery cover as often as you need to. Still... I'd love to be able to purchase some more if your seller has any left. There were two sellers on eBay I've seen and both of them are out of stock now. ?

I've never actually tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. It's made of the same material as the stock one. Just a soft touch rubber coating. I'd think the only thing that would hinder NFC would be something metal.

Back Door Covers | 3rd Party | MOTO G 2015 | feedback?

Q: Has anyone ordered 3rd party back door covers (non oem) from ebay or other sites?
example: http://goo.gl/3z0jZB (not an endoresment)
If so, thoughts?
In other shops like aliexpress you can find from 3$. But all those doesn't have the ipx7 protection that original haves in the expansion slots. The touch and feeling are near to original.
Enviado desde mi MotoG3 mediante Tapatalk
These covers are also available on eBay India and i am also think of getting some.
I ordered a 3rd party door cover for my 1st gen moto X, what a mistake. It was a nice olive/camo green within a month the spots where it clipped into the back of the phone literally fell off. I used this phone always with out a case and never had that issue with the original back and huge difference in quality. I ended up contacting the seller about the back cover and he sent me another green one, within a week same thing happened. Contacted him again and he sent me a really nice navy blue colored back, put it on and the phone has been sitting since(thats when I got the moto g). I wouldn't risk it especially for the ipx7 water resistance, but if you do get some post some pix and review of them.

The original black, or the original other colors?
The original black (no customization, retail box) has a rubberized feeling.
The black or any other color ordered as a shell or customized from Moto Maker is nearly sheer plastic. You still get the grooves, but it's not 'grippy' in the slightest.
I'd gladly pay $20 - $25 for a replacement shell that had a rubberized feeling in a variety of colors (preferably one that matches Moto's Royal Blue).
