[Q] CM12 Theme Engine boot animation - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do boot animations in the theme engine work for anyone else or am I doing something wrong? They work fine on my nexus 4 but the nexus 6 retains the default boot animation. An example is the dark material theme. When I apply it on my nexus 4, I can reboot and see the blacked out boot animation. On the nexus 6 I get the default CM boot animation. I can change it if I replace /system/media/bootanimation.zip. Adding /data/local/bootanimation.zip has no effect.

Some nexus 6 have boot animations in the /OEM partition that override all others. Depends which nexus 6 you've got (getting carrier version)

I do have the ATT version, however I removed everything from that partiton to get rid of the boot animation it was pulling from there.

Same Issue Here
I am experiencing the exact same issue. I got my Nexus 6 from Google and the OEM partition is completely empty. Soft reboot displays themed boot animation. Full reboot does not. I believe this must have something to do with permissions during boot. I have flipped the SuperSU flag to apply during boot up (Which, maybe, worked one time?).
Still looking for a solution...

+1. I dug out the bootanimation from the theme apk and placed it in system\media chmod 644.

Found a temp fix

[Q] My nexus one bootanimation is delayed!

one day when I was playing around with clockword mod and selected restart adbd(I thought it meant the adb daemon but I guess it means something else) in the advanced options area.Well I consider my self pretty tech smart and "advanced" for a 13 year old but I guess things happen. Now when I boot my nexus one the actual boot animation(not splash) is not showing for the first 3 quarters of the boot up. Then I thought I bricked my device because the screen wasn't showing the animation for 20 sec. Then I saw the touch-sensitve buttons light up and then 2 seconds later the animation apeared only for 2 seconds untill my device was booted. I tried overwriting the boot animation in both /system/media/ and in /device/local/ ad it had no effect. I dont know what to do. I am rooted using universal androot because I want to be able to unvoid my warrnaty. So my bootloader isn't unlocked. I am running Cyanogen Mod 6 and am loving it so far! But I am wondering what to do? Should I re-flash the rom? I tried pressing restart adbd again and it did nothing? i have not done a Nandroid restore because it will mess up my apps that are on the sdcard if i restore back. I dont know what to do!?!?!?!?!
Restart the phone again and see if the problem continues.

Exactly how long did you wait? It's probably rebuilding dalvik cache, which can take 1-2 minutes extra if you have a lot of apps.
Yup...if you've wiped the Cache/data...The Bootloader Screen will stay on for a longer time than usual...and the Animation screen will be less. Nothing is wrong with your phone.

Droid 4! Epic Problem!

so i installed safestrap to my droid 4 running stock rom ics. i go into recovery to install cyanogen mod 10 so i wipe everything like always and then i selected install, next i know i look at my phone and the screen is black i figure the install is done so i go to power it on and it brings me to the safestrap 10 second option so i click menu....nothing happens it shows backlight black screen then i restarted the phone and tried to boot regular, same thing is there anyway to fix this?! and since safestrap is installed everytime i try to charge my phone it turns on and tries to boot into the backlight black screen.
Sounds like you wiped ur system clean and nothing was installed over it. If you can get into safestrap then just usersd lite to put a clean version of ics on ur device. Then root and enjoy

Agreed. Probably going to have to fastboot ICS. In addition, if/when you try to install a custom ROM again, make sure you back up your unsafe system first. Then make sure you switch to your safe system to install the ROM.
Droid 4 - AOKP Skyline
when i go into safestrap it just shows a black screen, i click menu at the 10 second screen and thats what it does.

As others are saying, it sounds like your system is hosed.
My advice would be to download RSDLite and the appropriate fastboot files and restore the phone's software that way.

[Q] Any Way out when a CM 12 theme start to misbehaves after installation

Whenever a CM 12 theme misbehaves after installing where you cant access other things on the phone apart from constant popups of applications closing and misbehaving, what is the right solution in such a scenario to get back to normal working of phone ,
I have read something regarding deleting a folder from TWRP which resets the theme,
If anybody knows any solution apart from installing the ROM again.
Thank you in advance..

reflash your rom, dirty(not wiping anything).

That actually won't help as the theme would still be installed and applied. You should be able to delete the theme apk from the file manager in TWRP though. Haven't tried it myself but that should make the theme engine default back to system theme.
Reboot to safe mode.. Atleast you can do that as the reboot menu appears on top of everything regardless what's going on the inside..
Just reapply stock theme..
And reboot..

Does anyone have custom boot animation and logo for moto x play?

Just copy any bootanimation.zip file using any root file manager and paste in system>etc>media<folder.First backup the original one, just in case. Then give proper permission and reboot. That's it.
You have a few apps in the app store.I have a few downloaded and worked with my old moto g,but watch out.Have to make a nandroid backup first.I soft bricked my device several times playing with bootloader animations. The picture based files work mostly, but when I tried replacing the stock mp4 with another mp4 it never worked, dammit

but instead of restoring backup, couldn't just flashing stock boot animation would solve the bricking problem?
edit- i get it. we can only fastboot flash boot logo.

You can try this app called "Boot Box". Just search for animations with the same screen resolution as the mxp. Tried some others, but this app worked best.

Nexus 6 stuck on boot-up color splash scrn - after flash Mar17 Marsh +root+xposed

I am currently stuck for 45+ minutes at the google reboot splashscreen (4 colorful spinning dots that eventually should turn into the word android once reboot is complete).
I followed an update procedure that I have used many times (last done November 16), although some of the files involved are somewhat old.
Starting from November 16 update for Marshmallow:
1 - Fastboot-Flashed that March 2017 factory image for Marshmallow (yes, there is still a Marshmallow... I dont' want Nougat yet). Flashed all partitions except data and recovery.
2 - Reboot directly into TWRP (I believe it is TWRP 3.0.2... I haven'te changed it recently)
3 - In TWRP: Flash superuser BETA-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550 i
4 - In TWRP: Clear space from app/system by deleting foreign language directories (to make room for xposed)
5 - IN TWRP: Flash xposed xposed-v79-sdk23-arm
6 - In TWRP - initiate reboot to system.
7 - As system rebooted, I entered my PIN.
That's where I am now. Note I never saw a screen for "optimizing apps" that was expected. I
Note I never rebooted to android system, so I'm not sure which step caused the problem (it was a method I developed to update quicker although in retrospect rebooting each step to check would be smarter).
I have some ideas of what to do eventually: (retry my flash one step at a time)
BUT, I don't know how to do anything with a phone that is stuck on the splashscreen:
* It does not respond to key combination on/volume-down (which normally goes to fastboot)
* When plugged into pc, it does not respond to fastboot devices
* There is no battery pull option on this phone.
What to do next to get control of my phone... let the battery run out on the splash screen?
Hmmm. Weird. Just held power-on and vol-down and it took me briefly to a different screen (android?) and then promprted for PIN, then back to splashscreen.
I kept pressing that combo and eventually did get into fastboot.
Now I'll flash again.

Hello. Not sure what caused your problem. Also, i don't use Xposed...
Just a heads up... Your SuperSU is really really old. Just use this one:
https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip
Good luck...
The version of SuperSU he used likely was the cause of the bootloop.

I reflashed the system and then flashed newer files:
SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip
xposed-v87-sdk23-arm
(with a reboot between flashing SU and flashing xposed).
Everything booted up fine.
Problem solved.
Thanks for the help!
Aren't you supposed to fastboot boot, not flash the su with marshmallow?
