WiFi Calling and Network Issues after Lollipop Update - Sprint HTC One (M8)

Got a strange WiFi problem after upgrading to Lollipop.
After upgrading to Lollipop I noticed that my WiFi calling said that the service wasn’t available on this network (I’m on Time Warner). Hmmm. Everything worked fine on KitKat. Upon further investigation, I noticed that I couldn’t go to certain websites, others worked fine. Using the stock explorer favorites for example, I could go to CNN, facebook, etc, but not Sprints own Vision site. I have some security cameras and could not go to D-Links website either. Speedtest.net did not work, said network communication problems. Turning off Wifi allowed me to go to any of these sites without issue. Play Store and email work fine.
RUU’d Lollipop just to make sure something funny didn’t happen on the first install. Same results totally stock, not rooted or anything.
RUU’d KitKat. Everything works as it should.
Went through my router’s settings looking for anything funny, all looks good (I’m not a novice at networking). Didn’t expect to find anything though, since it all works fine on KitKat.
From the currently install KitKat (with working WiFi calling and everything else) I took the OTA for Lollipop. WiFi calling stayed working now, but I still can’t go to some websites. It makes no sense. Doesn’t matter if it’s a secure site or not. Some work, some don’t.
Rooted, went into recovery, wiped everything and installed Bad Boyz rom (my daily driver). Back to no WiFi calling again. Obviously not the ROM though since stock RUU acted the same way.
Wife has non-HK M8 still on KitKat and everything is fine with her phone.
While at my mothers house and my phone on Lollipop, everything worked there (WTF??? She’s on Time Warner too). This points back to my routers/network, but yet why is KitKat working on all devices? Different access point to Time Warner’s network? She has an ancient Netgear router, I have two fairly new ones. I have rebooted, and completely powered down my cable modem and router too, made no difference.
Looked at the host file in /system/etc. Don’t know if it would make any difference or not, but it looks fine. Exactly like the KitKat host file.
I have the HK version of this phone btw.
Anybody have any suggestions? Any pertinent info I left out?

I've tested my wifi calling, all is good...only thing I could suggest is backup your router config & factory reset to test

I thought about this too. I actually have two routers, same SSID, different channels, to give me coverage throughout the whole house/yard/shed/etc (and all my configs for everything, routers, cameras, printers, etc are always backed up. I tend to experiment a lot. Comes in handy... lol).
I have a spare router also router. I was going to try it on different SSID and channel and see what happens. Just got tired of messing with it yesterday... lol
Thanks for confirming about the only step left.

I have the same setup. Main router w/ another setup as an ap. Same ssid's diff channels. Sounds like a router issue to me. For me, L actually works better in regards to wif/wifi calling handing off between the two routers as I move thru the house.

Lollipop is currently "Optimizing Apps", going to go see what happens when I use my spare router. Going to leave everything at defaults and see what happens.
Just seems so weird that KitKat works flawlessly (on two different M8's) and lollipop acts strange.
Anywho, I'll know more later this afternoon. I'll post up results in case anyone else has similar issues.
What kind of routers do you have? Are you using 2.4 or 5 Ghz?
Also, I'm using static IPs for most everything. Do you use Static or DHCP?

I have the fios supplied actiontec router set to .1.1 and a linksys set to .1.2
I am using 2.4G

Success !!!
Okay, got it working.
Attached spare router to cable modem and connected to it - Everything works
Disconnect spare router and attached old router - factory reset it - Everything works
Restored my backed up settings to old router - Problems, same as before.
Reset again and re-entered all my settings manually exactly as they were before, and now everything works
Hooked my second router back up, everything still ok :good: walk around switching between routers, all is fine.
I guess it was just "one of those things".
Unfortunately, I have a fairly large network for a home, a 2nd router, 6 desktops, 2 tablets, 5 phones, a TV, 5 IP cameras, 2 printers and 2 network drives. I am picky about things and assign static IP's to them. Entering all that back in took a minute or two.
Thanks @O.M.J @chas123 for your replies.

Hey, I got the same issue... HTC One M8, now on Lollipop and not working properly on my Netgear WiFi anymore. Some apps can't connect to Internet it seems. I think it has to do with OAuth protocol. It works perfectly on other WiFi routers. And also my Google Nexus on Lollipop works fine on my Netgear WiFi. Its just the combination HTC One M8 on Lollipop and my Netgear Router and only for some apps (I suspect those that use OAuth) ... Very weird.
You say you fixed it by resetting your router and manually re-configuring it. Will definitely try that!
I was only hoping for a fix from HTC as I though they messed up the Lollipop build...
Will let you know and if it works, I'll send this post to both Netgear and HTC as a fix procedure...
Thanks!

And indeed... Wow. One of those things huh. Netgear said it was an issue caused by HTC. HTC just said the issue was known and the next patch would fix it... Have patience...
I simply reset my Netgear router to factory settings and manually configured it again.
Wow. Thanks all!
I'll see if I can vent this to Netgear and HTC (although I doubt if I can get past first line of support filters... Oh well. Trying is the least I can do)

NO successful WIFI when flashing ANY ROMS - HELP!!!!

I don't understand...after flashing (successfully) many different ROM's I like (Darky's, FireFly, Phoenix, etc), everything works flawlessly EXCEPT the WIFI...it scans and finds all networks fine and even "connects"....however, the Internet, the Market, email, etc. never connects and always times out...even using Kies Mini to flash to the official AT&T Froyo 2.2. Literally, the ONLY ROM that allows me to use WIFI and actually WORKS is Eclair 2.1, which is extremely sh*tty!!!!! I've tried apps like FXR WIFI fixer, used linux commands from other posts, flashed/reflashed....NOTHING!!!!
What the hell am I doing wrong or not doing at all! I can't live with Eclair 2.1, but also can't live without properly working WIFI either (since my 2GB plan is $20 per month and is used up within 3 days with 3G enabled as the only option using other ROM's since WIFI is useless)....PLEASE HELP!!!!!! It's that, or I have to trade out my Captivate for another model....thank you in advance!
Not sure whats causing your issues but, no problems what so ever on serendipity (up to 5.12 now)
As a matter of fact im downloading at a minimum speed of 2mb per second
Just wondering if you might have changed your settings in the past. Did you ever use a static IP (from the advanced Wifi menu)? If so, you aren't going to be pointing at the right internet gateway, and you'll never get any connection to work. You need to go back to dynamic IPs.
Other than that, my wifi and GPS started to go flaky today, so, after a series of attempts at other things (nandroid restores, clearing the cache, uninstalling, etc) I re-flashed the same kernel. All is well and good now, for some reason.
Have you tried connecting to different wifi signals? Maybe its just the router. And what are you doing that uses 2 GB of data in 3 days?! My plan lasts me an entire month with wifi only at night and i had barely 1 GB last month.

wow.. must be tethering alot eh?
Hmm.. if it works on Eclair - I have no clue as to why it wouldn't be working after flash to a new ROM.
Now.. I did have it do the things you were experiencing recently though... I had a solid wireless connection - I had the correct IP address assigned to the phone. I could check my GMAIL and XDA (using the apps) But if I went to the browser - nadda. But after I rebooted the phone it started working fine.
I would try a few things out though..
Have you rebooted your router? I have the worlds crappiest Lynksys and have to reboot it every now and again.
Go into your phones wireless settings and have it forget your network, reboot your phone and try setting it up again. See what happens.
And I would definitely try another network... AT&T offers a ton of wireless hot spots here were I live and I abuse them to death
Let us know how it goes.

+1.
Those are all good things to try. And avgjoegeek, i had a handmedown linksys router for about 6 years and it drove me INSANE. I recently decided to fork over the extra cash for the best model "netgear." Makes a world of difference. Whenever i am trobleshooting, i can immeadately cross off the router as a problem lol.

Linksys = crap... Linksys + ddwrt = gold.
Judging from your info it sound to me like you have a hardware issue either on the phone or the router. Reset phone, router, and modem and try again.

WOW - a lot of great responses! Thank you to all who responded. I've tried EVERYTHING listed here with the exception of resetting my router. I WILL do that after flashing my next ROM (although hesitant). This issue happens no matter where I am (work, home, WIFI hotspots, etc)...it can't be a hardware issue, since it works flawlessly on Eclair....WEIRD! If the resetting of my router doesn't do the fix, I'll have to get another model phone...beats having to settle for Eclair, anyways!
Thank for all the suggestions and I WILL try the whole resetting of the router, although doubtfull. Thanks again!

[FIX] WiFi connectivity issues with phiremod/CM7

This continued 'dropping and reconnecting' to my WPA/2 has been driving me nuts and I found the holy grail for my problem to share.
During the course of troubleshooting I:
1. updated router firmware
2. changed security from wep to wpa to wpa2
3. hard coded the nook mac address to enabled, even though there was no block setup.....
4. YadaYada.... pullin my frickin hair out then the moment of calrity
When I observed 'connected devices to my wireless I noticed that all other devices in da house had typical host names like laptop1, server1 whatever and the host name for the nook when attempting to connect was, and I quote
'android-873iurhfier98734598'
or in other words a dash with a huge random number/letter sequence that showed up as funky 'alien' ascii characters to the router.
So the fix was:
goto settings
goto applications
goto development
goto device hostname
dropdown to edit and backspace(erase) the dash-----bull****
I ended up with a host name of android
went back to wifi settings, forgot and reconnected and BAM
Done deal.
Hope this helps some of you who are having wifi problems.......
I believe this is related to certain wireless routers being unable to translate the characters into something other then gibberish ascii characters it believes its seeing????
whatever I dont care anymore....
didnt fix it for me....

Hmmmm,
I have a belkin N1 wireless router and did update to the latest firmware. I did change several settings during the course of getting my issue resolved as follows:
Radio = 11g
Bandwidth = 20Mhz+40Mhz-auto
QOS = OFF
Authentication = WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK
Encryption = TKIP+AES
obscure PSK = OFF
hopefully these will help..............

I had issues with cm7.0.2/3 stables and phiremod 6.2, .29 kernels until I stumbled on my fix. However this also works well for me with the 2.6.32, beta 3.1.
FYI, I have been running all of these off SD, my emmc is 1.01 rooted and very stable.
Dude, you are a lifesaver. I've been running into this problem frequently and it's sort of a kiss of death for WiFi when it happens and I have to re-do the whole CM7 SD Card. It's working perfectly now though after I just had a card fixed pretty much perfectly.
Thanks for posting this...
I didn't have any connection-disconnection type WiFi problems, but I went ahead and shortened the name to just android. What it fixed for me is the YouTube on Phiremod 6.3. Previously, any clip would stop with an error message. The progress bar of loading the clip ahead of the video playback was moving slowly at the beginning, but then jumping to the very end, and when the playback was at the "jumping point", it was giving me an error. Now, after this "fix", the bar moves along slowly all the way to the end, and video never stops with an error. Even if the playback catches up with the bar, it just pauses and waits for more to be loaded (mainly for HQ clips, occasionally).
Thanks again for this "unexpected" YouTube fix
FYI, I'm no longer able to get WiFi on the 108 Nightly. I tried this sequence again and haven't had any luck. Looks like a full wipe/install again.
EDIT: Just turned off the "Network Notification" and it's working fine again. Strange, but it keeps me from having to wipe AND my WiFi is working again. I hope that helps someone else.
Well since everyone is posting what worked for them, I figure I might as well too
I started getting this problem yesterday, never had it in the week up till then.
Problem started when I changed did a factory reset on my Belkin router (yes I know Belkin sucks) and changed the security to WEP (I know, I know, WEP sucks too) so that we could connect to XBox Live with an ancient xbox receiver thing (xbox was hardwired in our old apartment, and I'm not buying a new xbox just for freaking built in wifi it should have had in the first place lol).
Enough in the way of background. Suffice to say, I was having the wifi drop issue on my nook, but the xbox, wii, and two laptops were fine.
Last night I tried flashing back to stable CM7, n108, n106, and n85. No go. Also tried the honeycomb port from SDK 11. No go.
I changed the device name in applications -> development to "android" and turned off notifications when there was an available wifi hotspot. Still no go.
Changed about every wifi my POS Belkin had, still didn't work.
I flashed back to stock 1.2 with no root and no CWM, and wifi was still turning on and off.
I did two things since then and one of two things fixed it; not 100% sure which.
1. This morning I downloaded the software for my router from Belkin and reloaded it. Before I could test it, I had to rush off to work.
2. At work I rerooted, reinstalled CWM, and loaded n110, and when I got home IT WORKED!
Seems most likely to me that reloading the router software is what did it, although it may be n110 that did it.
So anyway, for everyone who is as desperate as I was last night, here's two more things to try.
Here was my fix to my issues

I'm not sure if this has been meantioned or not.......I have NO problems when tethering from my phone. Its only when connected to my router. Also I ran a couple of shows from Netflix to see if it would hold a connection from the router. Both shows ran perfect. But as soon as I tried searching on the browser it stopped working. I can then at that point wait it out or disconnect and reconnect. But again it works flawlessly tethering from my tbolt using wireless tether.

I can say this forum helped tremendously. Editing the Nook hostname fixed my WIFI issues. I have a Linksys WRT610N V1 with WPA2-Personal TKIP/ASIP with no issues now. All I did was make this change... Excellent connectivity now.
This is THE most frustrating issue that remains (for me) using the NC . I've tried most everything here at home to get a stable continuous connection, and end up failing.
Took it into work yesterday & sniffed out an open wifi WAP there, showed only one bar, yet it connected & played Netflix,Pandora, etc flawlessly.
well, just now reset my router (TP-Link wr1043N) & upgraded it's FW, and it is now allowing Netflix streaming. Holding breath, fingers crossed, etc

agreed. NC is charging now, but hoping that this issue is over for good. Thanks for the idea to look at the FW as a solution
Strange. I was using build 120 with my router with no issues, then after a few days it stopped working and would not reconnect even after a reboot. Forgetting the connection and recreating it didn't work either. However making the connection not use AES worked.

[Q] Wi-Fi suddenly stopped working?

Wi-Fi stopped working on my Captivate today. The device says it is connected but I am not actually connected to my home network. The network is fine because every other wireless device in the house connects and communicates. Specs:
Slim-I897-4.2.2.build.1-OFFICIAL (note: I was using RC1 when the problem started this morning. I decided to flash the new build just now to see if that would change anything but it didn't)
straosk semaphore 3.0.66
So far I've shut it down, removed the battery, told it to forget Wi-Fi connections and re-entered them, and restarted my router (although everything else attached to it continues to work just fine). The phone wasn't shaken, stirred, dropped, wet, or abused in any way. It just stopped connecting to Wi-Fi!
Any troubleshooting advice will be greatly appreciated.

Late last night one of my kids told me her phone (Pantech) didn't have wi-fi, either. Right now I'm checking the network for interference since the laptop and printer are working fine wirelessly but the phones and Wii are not. I'll post what I find out after I figure out the issue. Thanks!
Check that they're all assigned IP addresses etc. DNS error most likely, probably due to DHCP not being released fast enough and network clogging up. Happened at our work not too long ago, hope this helps.

That was it, or something like it. I changed the router over to OpenDNS, ditto for my phone, and assigned a static IP to the phone. Worked fine after that. I have no idea what changed, but you got me going in the right direction. Thanks!
No problem,

[Q] Wifi is very fast, but everything loads slow

I've seen all the problems about Lollipop and Wifi not connecting. However, my problem is different. I connect just fine AND I'm getting 31 ms ping, 60mbps down and 12mbps up. However, my internet browsing is slow, Facebook is slow, you tube is slow. Pretty much anything I need is slow except that my e-mail comes in, although if I need to synch anything, but my inbox (because that's pushed) it's slow as well. Even the speed test takes a while to load up, but when it does these are the results I get. The only solutions I find are about problems not connecting to the internet. Even that being the case I tried those remedies with no luck. Also my wife who just got a Moto X has the same problems. Hmmm both phones are made by Motorola I'm wondering is this is a coincidence. I should say I wasn't having these problems a few weeks ago they just kind of started and my wife had a Moto G that didn't have these problems. This combined with bluetooth issues is making it very hard for me to keep believing in Android as much as I want to. Any thoughts or help on this is greatly appreciated.

I've already tried all the suggestions. However, I can't adjust other routers that I don't have control over. So it's frustrating that it doesn't work better on more routers.
btw, what kind/brand of router are you using? maybe someone is using the same or similar that can give some advice.
I am seeing the exact same thing on a used Nexus 6 that I just picked up. It seems to only happen (so far) on my work's WiFi, although even that just started within the past couple of days. It works fine on the WiFi at home.
Since I purchased the N6 to use with Project Fi which relies heavily on WiFi, this is putting a serious damper on things.
I'm looking for any suggestions or even just confirmation that me and jdekoven aren't the only ones.
I have the same problem with my Nexus 6, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, all on either 5.1 or 5.1.1. It happens on my home Comcast X1 router/cable modem. It is not a problem with my Chromebook or Windows 7 PC.
It is not a problem at my office which has an Asus router and Cox cable modem.
This problem appeared recently, definately since 5.0, but maybe more recently (especially the Nexus 6, which I have only noticed the problem for a week or 2), and is only a problem for me on my home Comcast network.
I've had this same issue for a few days now. Just plugged my Asus router into the Xfinity box and once setup, WiFi is perfect using the other router. I'm assuming its due to background updates in the Xfinity box not playing nice with the phone. Dunno. But swap routers if you can.

My WiFi is still dropping since I got my Google Home - anyone else?

Hey,
So I am having serious wifi issues since I installed my Google Home. I use a chromecast too, but I think it's safe to say that it's the Home device that f-ed up wifi network.
I did read all the articles back i January/February that I was not alone with the issue, and as far as I understand - Google rolled out a fix about a month ago.
However, I am still having issues. My wifi drops for no reason (on all devices at the same time, phones included) for a few seconds and then comes back up. I've tried rebooting the router, and updating firmware on the router but no help. Today I pulled the plug to the Google Home until this has been fully resolved.
I love my Home and would like to have it connected. Did the correction that Google rolled out solve it for everyone else here or does anyone still have issues - or is it just me?
How can I see what firmware/software I am running on the Home? I have obviously tried to ask it, but it responds "this is not supported yet".
Any ideas?
Vol
I had the same problem on my main router, so I tried connecting it to my secondary router, and it worked, but since that one was supposed to be for the other part of the house, I got a cheapest used router I could (doesn't even support n standard) and created a separate network with different SSID, now I use it only to connect google home devices, chromecasts and other smart home wifi devices, and it works (it still uses my main router's DHCP server, and network, it is just AP with a different SSID), oh and I use channel 6 on that router btw.

Any ideas?

Ok, i feel my networking knowledge can come handy here! Lol. Home, three chromcasts, firetv, firestick x2; Nghthawk x8000->asusrtac68u->lan2wanWNR1000(for old 2nd gen sony bluray dlna and one roomstreaming)+wirelessLinksysEA6350->asusrtac88u. Yes, intriguing network! 6bdrm 3300sqft house. Biggest ever afforded! So, needless to say i pay TWC for 100Mbps, capping at 230mbps on the rtac68u ethernet bridge to wired desktop! All running my own modified compiled tomatousb. Linksysea6350 is ddwrt, kongbuild and a PIA so thats w/e stock kong wanted. Well safe to say ive been at making all this work!! What i need from you is topology and setup, running broadcoms or others? I find broadcom way easier to mess with. Second, you running custom or boxed units? And third is the google products subnetted (more of a b***h if you ask me!) And connected 2.4 or 5? N or AC? And how are you allocating resources? IE using QOS or similar? If you can't answer those im need (if unboxed and freed) "logcats", iptables, etc.. more than safe to say, the home not the culprit in sense to it "drowning" out the wifi band, but could for drown resources, IE low grade hardware, hardware beginning stages of failure and one extra workhorse did it, RAM, eMMC, getting the gist? Im gonna say w/slight certainty you might be rebooting not wifi actually cutting out. You also could if custom firmware corrupted something that the home doesnt like. But wont know w/out the numbers to look at. All i got from you is, either a LAN2LAN or bridge as i read your main hib is the DHCP, and is the SSID you "created" a subnet? And your "30" dollar router also could not be up to task.
And sorry if the reply is anything not right, first post ever here! Years of only reading lol. And something wrong with my cheap phone cracked screen phone replacement everytime keyboard is opened! Doubt its this website. my pixel xl tried to drive on the interstate outside of my car...so sad.. just know im gonna punch this phone or throw from the anger ive gained trying to type and the sign-in to post.. thank you.
Similar solution worked for me
I use a dedicated connection for all things GH related. This stopped the wifi dropout.
