Poweramp problem - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will try and keep this short. Basically, I was originally using Doubletwist and had some problems with it so I switched to Poweramp and had messed a little with the bass control and what not, I went back to Doubletwist and uninstalled Poweramp and I noticed when I was playing music that the bass is really low, so I installed Poweramp again and the bass was back when I played a song on both apps. Uninstalled Poweramp again and same thing on Doubletwist. So it's like Poweramp is still controlling the bass even when it is deleted, wiped everything off the phone relating to Poweramp and still the same problem. Idk if this is the right place to ask for this kind of help. Sorry for it being so long.

PowerAMP has the best bass management Try the setup from the screenshot attached below. If you want too much bass with a boost of sound then use Jetaudio Plus with AM3D (setup in the screenshot) and Bongivoi DPS and select Beats Pro as headphone there

Download Viper4Android and use that to utilize more bass.

Best equalizer hands down, in my opinion. A Nexus 6 V4A thread exists, http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/viper4android-t2952137

I had forgot to mention I use my phone in my car though blutooth primarily, I have subs so its not a problem.

Viper works for Bluetooth as well... Bluetooth devices aren't known for their audio quality though.

Weak volume when playing Mp3

Am i the only one that's bothered by the weak volume when playing mp3's?
When i'm working out at the gym i can hear the rather soft background music through the music that i'm playing on my phone.
How are your opinions towards this 'problem' and has anyone found a software 'booster' or another solution?
Thanks in advance and great forum by the way!

Well, try pocket music http://www.pocketmind.com/pmfp.htm or core player http://www.coreplayer.com/
I am personally using pocket player for the gym everyday along wihth A2DP Stereo Bluetooth headsets and the music is WAAAY too loud comparing with the default media player of the device. Mark that Pocket Music uses an extra bass feature that really ups the whole music sensation.

yes, I use the pocket player and I have to set the sound to 30%, because its really loud and hurting my ears when its set to 100%.
I have core player installed so i'll check that out first before trying the Music Player.
Still i was kinda liking the Music Player that came with the Rom because of it's fast Ipod-like interface.
Checking out the volume as we speak, will post findings.

Checking with the core player, turn eq on. Makes a huge difference in volume when using coreplayer.. In pocket music player the opposite is happening..
I liked a lot the default music player myself first time I booted the device, but when I saw no eq and low volume never run it again..
Core player makes me happy, 100% volume is ear-destroying but 60% is a nice setting.
Many thanks for the tips and advice.
I need high volume as well. I think I tried pocketmusic - maybe an older version and found no difference in volume or EQ.
It's also highly dependent on the type of earphones you use:
if I use the ones that came shipped with the phone I can easilly turn both the phone and HTC Audio player/WMP up to 100 % without it beging really tough on my ears.
with my highly sensetive koss plugs I can only go to 50 % before it really starts hurting my ears

[Q] Built-in equalizer not working for speakers?

So the built in EQ seems to work lovely when I plug in my headphones on anything like Pandora, YouTube and even notification noises on my phone. However, if I just use the phone speaker the equalizer has no effect at all. Not a single change in sound from Extreme Bass to Vocalizer setting when watching YouTube and Pandora. Does anyone know why it only works via headphones and not over the phone speaker?
Seems to work just fine for me. Having owned an HTC One before this, the external speaker quality is a definite step back. That said, I can notice a difference when I change the equalizer settings, albeit the fact that the audio pauses between settings (when playing on YouTube) makes it harder to tell.

weird
Can you test it on Pandora too? I really can't tell a difference only when headphones are plugged in
I think I can, however like YouTube it is a very subtle difference between even what should be opposite ends of eq. (Extreme bass brilliant treble)
Edit: I noticed the largest difference when using Play Music.

I think Pandora is the only thing that doesn't let the equalizer affect for some reason. It's just weird on headphones it works amazing

Audio

Can someone comment on the music player audio quality and how it compares to viperaudio mod? If it is subpar, what music player are you using? I'm on verizon so viperaudio is not an option until/if we get root. Thanks in advance.

My experience so far has been good. Through the 3.5mm headphone jack it plays really well through my car stereo, nice dynamic sound with pretty low distortion. More base heavy than I would go for but definitely well rounded. The phone speaker itself I find a little distorted due to the big base but it depends on your style of music and volume levels. The volume goes quite high also.
I'm comparing this to my last phone which was the nexus 5, personally I felt the nexus 5 volume was too low and lacked any base and made it sound tinny because of it. Even with viper audio I was never satisfied with it. The Moto x on the other hand got a few smiles from me with how it handled some of my favorite tracks on my commute.
The last phone I can remember really enjoying my music on was the galaxy s1 international version with voodoo music mod. That was quite a while though and honestly can't remember it enough to compare. Still, maybe that gives you some indication to what I would be looking for audio wise
Im using Apollo for my music player and the sound is great. If u have upgraded to 5.0 theres a built in EQ under settings/sound where u can modify how it sounds thru headphones and front speakers.
That's also in 4.4

Viper mod audio sounds HORRIBLE after rooting with SamPWND!

I'm pretty frustrated trying to figure this out. I have rooted my US Verizon - variant of the Galaxy S8 (G950U) with SamPWND.
Step 1) After root, I tried installing Viper mod. In the past with other phones, I always just installed the ARISE sound AROMA 2.94 installer as it does a lot of the work for you like installing the audio effects conf file in the right folder (/system/vendor/etc). So I ran the installer, and on next reboot, noticed Spotify Eq was using Samsung's built in SoundAlive equalizer. I forgot to freeze it first but did it anyhow in Titanium. Now spotify is using Viper. Sound quality sounds like crap.
Step 2) Factory reset and start over, this time using the method mentioned in the SamPWND thread which can be found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/samsung-galaxy-s8-root-snapdragon-t3659305
- That thread points to this Viper install guide for the S8: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...laxy-s8-s8-t3596933/post72049061#post72049061
As the guide mentions, I followed the steps by first freezing SoundAlive, copying the zip's audio conf file to /system/vendor/etc, then installing viper apk. Since our bootloader is locked, as I expected, the step to install Magisk fails, so then I simply restarted and opened viper. Sound quality is still crap.
So in either case, I know that Spotify is now using Viper mod for sound eq. I even went into Samsung's audio settings in Settings and it gave me a popup to use viper. I can listen to bluetooth and while the song is playing, change the viper eq and here a difference.
I noticed by default, Viper comes with Dolby, which is ON. I always turn this to off and notice that the sound is better. Dolby seems to overload the sound for me (sounds overpowered and almost at times like it's cutting out). Still, I'm noticing that the bass is solid when mids/highs don't have much activity but gets distorted when guitar really kicks in. Mids sound muddied and tunnel - like . Highs are tinny.
Normally, Viper mod with stock eq settings with all my other phones *always* sounds better than stock. Even with the eq at default and turning off any gains or gain controls / volume normalization, sound quality is still poor.
On bluetooth (I'm using my Sennheiser momentum wireless which are upper tier), when turning off Dolby, Spotify's normalize volume setting, the quality is near where it should be. But, in my Audi with Android Auto over USB, sound continues to be really horrible...I think the bass in the car and larger speakers are pointing out the distortion more. I have to also manually set my volume before running it in the car or else the head unit sound level is too low and I have to blast the volume knob which makes it sound worse.
Any ideas? What am I missing and are you experiencing the same?
So I have a SM-G955U, and I just installed Viper4Arise. I used the latest ZIP from the official V4Arise thread and flashed it using FlashFire. Make sure to check mount /system read/write and leave reboot enabled.
Also, I used the installer to remove SoundAlive.

I noticed dolby was on by default. Turned that off and also turned off normalize volume in spotify. Sound is a lot better and no longer over loaded, though I think it might need more tuning. Now I'm wondering if install method matters at all

How are you testing sound quality? I'm fine with the sound over Bluetooth headphones (sennheiser momentum, pretty good ones). But in my Audi, over android auto using usb, the vocals are still a bit harsh. Sub is cleaner now after a ton of adjustments. Vocals still are harsh on the "s" sound. With my previous pixel phone in this car, sound was way better and didn't need so much work

You can open the status menu in the Viper4Arise app to see if it is processing, other than that, I am listening to it. I know what my Pixel sounded like with V4Ar, and it sounds the same to me. All that being said, I have to use BT to connect to the Sync in my Mustang since I only have Sync 2, which doesn't support Android Auto.
How does Android Auto work? Is the music playing from your phone, or is the car stereo controlling? I know you can connect an Android phone as a USB drive.

Yeah, processing wasn't the issue, and that's why I don't know if the install method matters. I definitely know it's doing something because I move the knobs with bluetooth stream and hear the sound act differently.
With Android Auto, I hook up my phone to the USB port built into the car. Then the phone says Android auto in black and white, and the car display shows the interface for music players, maps, etc.
When auto is up, I can't change the sound settings dynamically since the screen is black. I think if I open viper before the car and have the notification always show, I can load it...but then it's loading a separate instance of the app, not the main one.
I had to really change the bass settings on my phone *and* the car (normally don't have to) to make the bass not distort. The audi's stock sound is junk. I got a nice JL Audio amp installed and a 600W JL Audio woofer.
With the pixel, in the car, I had the bass dial in the audi set to one two notches above mid way and the treble down 4 notches. Now, with the rooted s8, I'm having to dial its bass setting down 2 notches from mid (instead of up) and instead turn up the bass knob on the JL Audio woofer just a hair. Anything else and it distorts.
Out of the box, the Pixel just sounded great to me. I don't know why the S8 is taking all this work. Even with my note 4, I didn't have this issue of having to tweak the hell out of it.

Weak Audio using Headphones

Hello guys,
I'm facing a problem that the audio is so weak or low using the headphones, I tried many headphones but nothing also I tried to fix the equalizer but nothing...
I don't know what to do with this problem however i tried these headphones with other mobile (iPhone 5s) the sound was really really cool.
Anyone is facing this problem?
Thanks in advance
No. Sometimes the sound gets made a lot quieter and you look at the screen and it's not saying anything, so you increase the volume and only then do you get a message about volume damaging your hearing you have to ok before actually increasing the sound.

I already did that and the sound level is full but still low in the headphones
There is effects settings for headphones turn it off and the sound will be good, but via inbuild speaker it will be weak then.

Have you used decent headphones? I know people often use Bluetooth headphones but they are terrible (the protocol lossily encodes audio so even if you started with FLAC that's not what you'd end up with in your ears)? I listen exclusively to FLAC via both decent Sennheiser headphones and cheap Philips earbuds and they both sound great to me (via Rocket Player). So you have a problem but I don't think it's your choice of phone.

Ofc it is SBC but there is no problem with Redmi note 4. I checked it with iPhone 6 and still no problem. Then I tried old p9 lite and... same problem. So huawei/honor is still have problem with Bluetooth. (I remember old p8 lite and problems with WiFi speed while using bt speaker)
