Galaxy S6 Edge Tempered Glass Screen Protector Thread - Galaxy S6 Edge Accessories

The dual edge of the Galaxy S6 Edge is a bit a huge challenge for manufacturers, I have been looking one as a preparation as the edge is my pick for the two phones, so far only one manufacturer that I found.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Tempered Glass Screen Protector
I would love to have the Zagg but still waiting for it

I would be keeping my eye out for manufacturers that came out with a Galaxy Note Edge tempered glass solution; but I couldn't find many. I bet those will be the ones to release Galaxy S6 Edge tempered glass solutions first.
I am on the lookout for one too

Nice find bro, but so far it is still in its early days, we have to wait for at least a month to see much more better screen protectors

Right! I'm also looking for better screen protectors. Hopefully, I can find one. I've seen one on Amazon, KlearCut screen protectors, not so expensive but will hold on until I've read reviews.

Iloome has been working on a curved one for the Note Edge since November I believe. They provided an update last month stating they're having issues with it adhering.

Okay thanks

Interesting but I don't think glass screen protectors for curved mobile phones will happen for a long time.

Unless if the glass just arrives in a form-fitting way for the phone... idk, those companies have a challenge to overcome, for sure.

With gorilla glass 4 you don't need screen protector people.. Believe.. I have 2 year with S5, Z3, Note 4 and I never use this.. My screen is like new... The Screen protector is a simple deal for 3th part... Good luck.. Waiting 4 my S6 edge.. ????

I just got my screen protectors (front and back) from Germany. Feels funny to actually get the accessories before the actual phone...

No. Just regular screen protectors.

I also used those without any scratch agree to you.

As the owner of a Note Edge who have spent countless hours in the last couple months trying to find a screen protector (of any kind) that fully cover the entire screen, my advice is to be on the cautionary side when looking at the pictures that the suppliers post for their product. I myself have searched on Amazon, Ebay, as well as many screen protector websites, so far I have purchased about 5-6 screen protectors form various different suppliers, and only one was able to cover the entire screen of the Note Edge.
I have not looked at tempered glass for the Note Edge, as there is a long discussion thread in the Note Edge accesories subforum talking about delays in bringing tempered glass to the Note Edge.
I will be getting the S6 Edge as soon as it is released, and of course I will be looking at getting screen protectors, but I will definitely double check and make sure before making the purchase.

If you guys are hoping for a tempered glass for the edge you can forget it. The only ones that you will find are those that dont cover the edge, just the flat part of the screen. This is normal, Tempered glass is not meant to be anything else else than flat. The only way they could achieve a full cover glass protector is if they create a piece of glass thicker than the screen assembly and carve out the silhouette of the edge. This would mean such a propector would cost 4-5 times the price of a regular one.
I think nobody will have other choice than switching back to plastic or rubber protectors

As mentioned earlier in the thread, iLoome was experimenting with a curved glass screen protector so it IS actually possible to make these. I think they're just trying to figure out the proper curvature is all for adherence purposes but otherwise these are doable (albeit may be expensive if/when released).

Experimentation has nothing to do with possibility. They've started experimenting in November and look now, a third of a year later and nothing. Like I said, the only way to do such a proptector is to create a piece that it thicker than the screen of the edge and carve out with a diamond tip the onside of the protector to the curvature of the edge.
One of the researcher for a major cell phone accessory company published an explanation of the challenges of tempered glass protectors in response to the great disappointment of the client following the "halo gate" of the Note 4. The only thing i remember his saying was this:
"You cannot bend tempered glass, you cannot shape tempered glass because it's designed to break in to a million little pieced just like the back window of your car which makes it practically impossible to shape to the contours without giving up something, either strength, flexibility or hardness. The only thing that is possible is carving, just like we carve the side of the protector to be more rounded and pleasant to the touch."

Looking for the ideal tempered glass screen protector is quite a challenge. I'd rather settle with a film protector. There are lots of good quality film protectors that definitely looks like glass, without the glare and all that stuff. I have tried quite a few, the latest was IllumiShield screen protector. So far, it is looking good on my current phone, S4. Most likely, I'll be sticking with this film protector until I found a really, really worth glass shield for the S6. Anyhow, we still have a month to go so hopefully something great would come out.

*AVOID* Skinomi Tech Glass - Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Glass Screen Protector

The packaging is fancy, install is pretty straight forward... but all the means nothing if the screen protector doesn't cover the whole screen, nor adhere to it either. There is about 1-2 mm on both sides that is left uncovered by the screen protector, and then about 2-3mm where the screen protector does not adhere to the screen leaving an ugly effect. While the part that's not adhered to the screen is only noticeable while the screen is off, the portion uncovered is noticeable with the screen on. You can tell where the screen protector ends and portion not cover begins because of the curved edge of the protector. And there is an annoying rainbow effect when looking at the edge of the screen protector at an angle when the screen is off.
I wonder if these people actually "test" these screen protectors before they start selling them. Or they just go off the design specs available online when measuring.

I've got mine when they were promo'd on slickdeals for like 95 cents. The packaging is nice but there does seem to be a lot of complaints about halo's and whatnot, haven't put it on yet. Quess i shoulda researched before i bought
I installed the skinomi a while ago and it had halo but was sized much better than what is pictured here. I wonder how there can be so much variability in the manufacturing process.

Have you tried contacting Skinomi before creating a thread like this? It's very possible you just got a bad protector. Keep in mind glass protectors won't cover the entire front glass since it's slightly curved at the edges, but it does look like yours is a bit small. I have a Skinomi glass protector on my Note5 and it covers the entire visible display quite nicely (almost perfect to the edges of the display). No halo effect either.
They'll likely give you a free replacement.
Someone might have accidently packaged a different protector from another phone.
I would contact the manufacturer and they'll probably send you the correct one.
Ya sorry but i used the promotion on here and got one for .95 shipped and overall it adhered good and is sized much better than yours. Only at the bottom right corner where i believe my fingernail scraped away some of the adhesive lifting it back up was it not sticking.

Other than the slight "halo" mine fits just fine. It's doing its job of protecting the screen
Halo all the way around. I tossed mine. My phone is naked now but I will be going back to matte screen protectors when they arrive. Ran through too many glass protectors and all of them have halo. Not paying $30+ for a screen protector.

I ordered two of these (in case one arrived cracked/damaged) then I would not have to wait on a replacement to keep my phone protected. And if both arrived with out damage, then I would have a spare if the 1st was damaged during use. Both that I received were exact same size, and neither covered the display entirely.
I had no issues with "halo" effect in the screen protector itself. My issue was it does not cover the entire screen (the screen not the glass front.)
And I'm well aware that glass screen protector do not go from edge to edge of the front of the device; yet they should at least cover the actual display itself.

I have to say the screen protector can not be the way as you wanted if your screen has a little curve edge .
most of the affordable screen protector just sized down a little bit , it is easy to make also , will reduce the cost of the product
and it will be easy to go with case
as i know you have a supcase , why did you still use the screen protector ?

I've been using Android since 2008 on my T-mobile G1, and have bought new devices every year. I know how a screen protector should look and function.
Stopping the screen protector before it even covers the actual display is not acceptable or how they fit properly. (and incase you are not aware "display" is the part of the device that produce the imagery, the visual interactive part when you press the power button, not the bezel or "entire" front of the phone.)
You are stalking my reviews on Amazon, gonna start stalking them on Xda also?
And as far as your comment about SUPCASE; I have many cases, SUPCASE, Otterbox, Spigen, and UAG. Also several off brand cases.
I don't use the same case all the time, I like to switch it up. And having a screen protector on the device allows me to use cases that don't
have them built in (which most do not)

Honestly, I'd wait on ordering one of these. The boxes all look hella sketchy and the second link doesn't even have anywhere near the right phone as the model image for the S7 (at least the Edge on both of these has an older model picture). Chances of the screen scratching the first couple of weeks while you figure things out is pretty low since the anti-scratch coating doesn't typically begin to wear off until at least a month (Then is usually pretty vulnerable to scratches; especially after 6 months).
I'd save your money for now. S6 Edge definitely didn't have the best screen shield pre-order experience. Fittings were terrible and some didn't even cover the 'edge.'
ordered the LUVVITT screen protector
To be honest, I would use a conventional film screen protector (maybe combined with a case) until something proven reaches the market.

No, the S7 screen shape is vastly different even if it resembles the one in S6 Edge. But the same company that made the S6 Edge protector can probably do one for the S7 Edge.

I'd like to get one of these glass screens, but at this stage the cheapest I've seen is around £15 from China. I'll wait until the phone is actually in my hands, they'll come down in price soon enough. I have a protective case on order, that's the main thing.

For 3D curved tempered glass screen protector for Samsung S7 Edge, it's not all surface with glue, only 4 sides with glue. After testing, full glue will influence screen touch.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a relatively inexpensive, but potentially "good" case-friendly glass screen protector?
Obviously, with nobody yet having the devices themselves, it's going to be difficult to assess whether fit, etc, is good, but if anybody has experience of a brand/manufacturer that has done good things on other devices with non-flat screens, then that could be useful to know - I don't plan to use my Note 8 without some protection, and I've always found plastic protectors to be poor with regard to feel and their oleophobic properties, and often attract dust.
I'm thinking I'll get something that will more than likely be cheap, but reasonably performing, until such time as there are reviews of different protector models with experience of being used on the Note 8 before committing myself to a bigger purchase, such as a Zagg or a Whitestone.
I think the only logical screen protector will be those ones that are similar to paint protection film applied on cars. I put one on my wifes S8, didnt look too bad, Used a bit of heat from the hairdryer.

Plastic protectors seem to fall into two categories; stretchy "military grade" stuff which can be a bit "orange peely" and grippy to the touch, and a film which seems to offer less protection, but suffer from finger prints.
Best plastic I've seen is the iCarez on the Note 4, which gave good protection and feel, but was a bit of a dust magnet.
I'll be getting a Skinomi Tech Glass tempered screen protector when they're available. Had them on the Note 2 and Note 5 and on the Tab S 8.4. Haven't disappointed me yet.
Tempered glasses don't fit right on curved edges and you have to touch screen harder for it to respond

like many here i pre ordered the note 8. i also have a UAG Monarch case pre ordered.
since this is my first phone with a edge screen i noticed that it will be kinda hard to find a good screen protector. for 2 days im looking through amazon to find something but for now it seems impossible to find something decent.
glass screen protectors seem to be really bad on edge phones so i really don't want or need one of those. also because i only get a screen protector for minor scratches and not for other reasons like a shattered screen.
also there are so many cheap asia products which seem to be from the same factory but just rebranded with different names. the protectors, the packaging, everything looks the same except the name on it. mostly them, but also many others got so many fake reviews that i will not buy them ever, even if they were really good, which i doubt.
for example stuff from those companys: supcase, profer, cubevit, g-color, danibos, klearlook, moko, yootech and so on. all fake and crap.
i also looked for a s8+ screen protector just so i can see which brand is good and which one i should get for the note 8 but there isn't even something good for the s8+. WTF!!! even the one from spigen seems to be crap.
so can any one in here recommend me a simple nice tpu screen protector with edge sides covered which will also be case friendly???
i had a s4 before and i took of my screen protector 6 months ago. since then i got many minor scratches even tho i got nothing then my phone in my pockets. so i don't want this to happen with my new phone.
please guys im getting crazy here. only 10 more days to find something. thanks!!!
ok i think i will try this one and hope it will be good.
maybe someone else in here tried this brand already on s8/s8+ and can tell me something about it?
thanks!!

I'm not a big fan of plastic protectors - in terms to protecting against scratches they are better than nothing, but generally suffer from poor oleophobic properties, don't feel as "slick" as glass, and sometimes mark up when using the S-Pen.

+1 glass is much better way to go!
i gave in and had best buy put on an invisibleshield hd on my note 8.. I am pleasantly surprised by the nice feel and so far no spen issues with marking..its case friendly and im glad i had them apply it.. (also price matched for $19.99 from zagg) i went through 2 different tempered glass ones off amazon ..Honestly i think im going to keep this one on for the duration.. it fits perfect and since its case friendly theres no lifting up at the edges.
Bought a tempered glass sp for my note, fits perfect even with the Samsung view case

I don't care if it's edge adhesion, I'm just looking for one that won't let water or dust in. Any ideas aside from whitestone?
Maybe it's too early. Have wait for manufacturers to catch up.

better don't wait. edge phones are here for a long time and it was always the same. nothing gonna change as long as there are no cheap whitestone copys on the market

The one that came with my case is good. No issues with sensitivity and it's clear. Works well and fits perfectly inside the case.

I wasted my money two times on glass screen protector for my brand new S8 until I bought whitestone glass screen protector. It's very expensive but it's worth to buy it.

Check out the current thread on whitestone. There's no way I'd pay $50 for one protector. I bought three for a fraction of the price of one of theirs and am totally satisfied with the one I'm using now.

There obviously could be a huge variation in the quality of the sticky-edged/dot-matrix type protectors, but it's difficult to imagine any coming close to the performance of the Whitestone with regard to sensitivity, clarity, fit and feel.
The Whitestone isn't cheap, but it is very good.

Yeah I get that. Using the one that I linked, I honestly can't justify paying the price for whitestone. It can't be 5 times better but costing nearly 5 times more.... It needs to be.

Well, the Whitestone is 100 times better than the p.o.s. protector I put on to start off with.

Note 8 screen protector/cases
I have the Note 8 with a Zagg HD Clear Invisible Shield (not the glass one) and a Otterbox Defender case. Not happy with either. The Defender case pushes on the edges of the screen protector and it peels up. Not too happy with the Otterbox Defender holster. It's flimsy and doesn't hold on to the case very well. I have problems with my phone being popped or pulled out of the holster of something rubs or catches on it. It comes out pretty easy. It's not held in the holster very well at all. Anyway, I just purchased a Whitestone. I hear they're the best glass protectors. As far as compatible cases, I know there are some YouTube videos that people test screen protectors with various cases.

Screen protectors

Righteo, our phones will be arriving in a week, which screen protectors should we be buying? Thoughts?
I'm tempted by a tempered glass (pun not intended, but I chuckled), but haven't had one before. They seem like they can be pretty thin these days and keep the nice feeling of glass instead of plastic. My Z3C came with protectors for front and back in the box, but looking at the "whats included" things, I can't see any mention of that for the XZ1c.
I guess the requirements are: can't be crap; gotta be reasonably easy to apply bubble free; nice to touch; not going to peel or flake after a few months; not a finger-print magnet; doesn't interfere with the touchscreen function; doesn't alter the colours.
Get your suggestions in! Mobilefun have a couple available to preorder, but I've got no reason to think these are any better than ones on Amazon etc.
Just got my XZ1 Compact from Sony HK. They gave me a third party "nano protector" which is crap; covers the screen but not the wall glass area, the texture is nice but it's a dust magnet. Looking for a full screen tempered glass protector now..

Definitely go tempered glass, just dropped my nexus 5x today (a week before upgrade to XZ1 compact) and the screen protector cracked but the screen is fine. I also know a guy at work who has dropped his iphone at least 6 times and broken the screen protector only.
Im tempted to get the sony Xperia™ XZ1 Compact Style Cover Stand SCSG60 for a bit more protection but not sure how ill get on with a cover case like that.
Screen protector wise i've only seen these in the UK
Not sure whats curved about it but its official ish by the looks of it. Not sure i like the black boxes though.

Not heard of Olixar but this one has clear glass all over.

I found a cheap tempered glass protector, the only one I could find after couple of hours checking shops in Hong Kong.
It went to the trash bin after a day...
It covered the screen area only and its edges wouldn't stick to the phone glass...
Yes, I just found out that the XZ1 glass is 2.5D so it is slightly curved, very very slightly but still.
I guess it will be hard to find a full screen one then. The best option I've found on Internet is a curved plastic protector, similar to what I had on my S7 edge; it should cover nicely the whole area without bubbles or the issues all the curved tempered glass had, but this kind of material is fingerprint, smudges and grease magnet...

Purchased the full glass screen protector mentioned here as well as the Roxfit book case. Will let you guys know how it goes when I receive them.
Looks like the tempered glass ones don't reach to the edges due to curving of the screen. Might be a bit tricky to find one that covers the entire front properly, and even then, I guess glass is out of the question.
Gonna try one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0755DYRYQ

This is the Roxfit one, they do the cases under the 'made for xperia' partnership so id hope the glass would be good too (even if not made for xperia)
https://www.roxfit.mobi/products/sony-xperia-xz1-compact-full-cover-tempered-glass
Roxfit one looks the same, I think these ones with the coloured surrounds might be edge-to-edge. If you look at the clear options on Amazon a number of them mention they'll only cover the screen and not go to the edge due to curves. There are a couple of reviews on the XZ1 protectors that mention they don't go to the edge.
Should get mine tomorrow and just received notification of dispatch of my phone too, so hopefully they'll all rock up some time tomorrow.
I bought this screen protector and I'm a little disapointed. Although it was easy to put on and has a good finish. It doesn't wrap round the edges of the curved display and thb, I can't imagine there are any protectors that will.
Part of a screen protectors design is to be hard and ridgid to resist scratches, now get that hard material to wrap round a 90 degree corner.
I'll be interested in feedback of the other protectors listed here.

Easy to put on, I did it straight away, so I pulled off the shipping cover and slapped this one down in one movement. No dust, no bubbles.
The black frame is a little weird, the most noticeable bit is the cut out for the Sony logo. But be warned with these glass frames - you cannot use the official DK60 dock! It is just slightly too big to slot in to the correct sized bracket. I've had to use a bigger bracket and shove a bit of card down the back.
Anyone have a suggestion of a normal nonglass screen protector? I just love the one that originally came with my z3c - it's oleophobic so I honestly never see any fingerprint smudges on the screen.

So is it ok in use with the phone? Id rather have full coverage but ive seen some not full coverage ones that are completely clear and so wont look as odd with the black sections.
Alas, the only camera I have on me at the moment is my phone. But it doesn't look too bad, I can't see a clear one looking any better in reality as the thickness is the most distracting thing. A film one will get a snugger fit, but the clarity and feel isn't anywhere as nice as glass.
This one from Protectionfilms24.com is more up my street, old school film with cutouts only where they need to be but need to get more info on just how much "smaller than the display" it actually is.
(all screen protectors listed in this thread don't ship to my country and I'm not a big fan of colored frame either)
Last try until I give up and just use my phone without a screen protector.
Installed an " Imak Hydrogel " protector (installation requires water)... Good thing is it came with 2 pieces.
I have lot of experience with regular plastic ones and tempered glass but this is my first protector requiring water..
I've installed the first one and I had an horrible texture, when I decided to remove it I also tried to reposition it just to see if it could be better. Indeed it was but it was also already ruined by my fingerprints underneath. (it doesn't adhere to transparent tape, hard to find a way to peel it off or just reposition it)
I've then installed the spare one and is definitely better this time. Not perfect but definitely usable. I have to see how scratch prone it is and if it doesn't retain oil or fingerprints too much.
Oh yes and it is covering the whole glass edge to edge..

I went with the Omaton (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0755DYRYQ) as previously listed. Really not a fan of the black frame bits i just dont see the need and it stops one product being used by all coloured models which seems a bit unsound in a business sense too.
Still the application and packaging and all the stickers screen wipes and so on made the process really easy and i got a dust and bubble free application and pleased with the end result and i can live with the oddly boxed Sony logo.
Omaton with the black frame fitted:

You can see it goes past the edge of the screen, but doesn't quite meet the edge of the phone (due to curving). So unless somebody makes a shaped front piece, I think this probably going to be as good as it gets for glass.
