My Diamond won't charge to full capacity! I tried to charge it overnight two times and the first time my telephone charged it was 70 procent charged after 1 night. (7/8 hours) and the second night (5/6 hours) with the same percent when i woke up. I had it once 100% but after installing hardSPL and the hardreset it drop instantly to 40%. (i just installed that , and nothing more.)
Connected the telephone to the charger again and i've got a full lit led ring. After turning the device on the ring went 'charging' again. The capacity was 75%. In windows.

Definatly sounds like a faulty cell in your battery
At least its not the phone thats broken, a battery is easily replaced.
I also have a strange battery issue! Mine won't charge if the Diamonf is switched on.
The Battery only will charge if I switch the Touch Diamond OFF, If it’s turned off, not only the display. With Running OS, when I plug the AC adaptor, it only show few seconds the charging breathing LEDs and then stops, the indicator also doesn’t show the charge symbol but the full charged battery instead but the LED indicator is not full white as it should be in full charge state and the battery of course drains down… I’ve tested with another AC adaptor, another USB charger, even car charger (I have the HTC original one), still the same behaviour.
Could this be related to the developer HardSPL? I also have this behaviour after that installation... weird
Any kind of help would be appreciated!
Its unlikely its the hardspl. I would guess hardware issue, but if it charges while off then thats unlikely too.
I assume you've tried a hard reset already to rule out any application interferring with it?
Also what happens when you plug into your PC? same thing?

1) Software issue - try hard reset
2) Battery issue - try another battery, or once fully charged look for a big drop in battery very quickly. There are some battery manager/monitors you can download which can monitor the voltage for you. If you can show me the drop in voltage of the battery i can conclusivly tell you if the battery has a fault.
3) Hardware issue with the phone - that would just suck!
update: Replaced my battery and charged it through the adapter, full 100%.But here's something that is stranger... I installed the battery in another diamond and that battery indicator was 100% full..
I hope that it was a battery problem, because i had so much troubles with the diamond so far! The new battery is lasting much longer, it's been 6hours and it didn't even lost a bar. (still 100%)

A fully charged cell has about 4.3v across it. As its drained of current the voltage drops to about 3.3v, when its fully depleted.
The phone uses this voltage level to display the current capacity of the battery
If a cell fails in the battery, as its capacity reduces its not able to provide enough current. Power = current x voltage
If the phone tries to draw normal current, the voltage drops excessivly to conserve the above formula. This shows in the phone as a decrease in battery capacity. The voltage across the battery drops to below 3.3v before the remaining cells are depleted, and although there is still enough current to suply the phone, there isnt enough voltage. Overall there isnt enough power (P=IV)
A rested battery may show enough voltage for a short while (when you first put it in) but the voltage will drop drasticly as soon as any significant current is drawn.
This is a really common failure in a bettery, and you can spot it very quickly when you see sharp drops in the battery meter.

Don of course and even reflashed without installing any application, just synced with PC... same issue. In the mean time I even reflashed the stock SPL to try... and the Diamond is now charging in Off modus, so I'll turn it on tomorrow to give it a trial

I flashed my TD from 1.37.081 to 1.37.707.1 today and my battery went to 30 percent and not long after it wend dead again.
But there's something strange that i've discovered today.. my charger charges my phone really slow (with original cable and charger) but with the 3rd party adapter i charged todat (adapt htc, specifications are the same of the original adapter) it's normal and my phone doesn't warm up ( max 20 degrees celcius) so much as with the HTC adapter (40 or more degrees celcius?).

output 5V/1A , same specs. input is a little different (110-220hz, 0,2A) against (110-220hz, 0,15A).. but that isn't a problem right? The output is the same.

Yeah.. my Touch Diamond is f**** up as h****.. that's not only the problem. I used some GPRS today and my phone makes noises just like when you put a telephone next a speaker and it receives sms/calls. That's when i'm surfing on the web :O!
On top of that, my speaker quits after x seconds/minutes and doesn't make any sound at all and then works after x seconds/minutes. But it doesn't work after x seconds in the Touch Flo mp3player. So my ' precious diamond' is pretty worthless right now.

Check your settings: settings > power > checked off the "when device is turned on, do not charge...." ?

That noise is caused by a harmonic of the GSM signal. It sounds like the grounding is not correct, either for the speaker or possibly a whole section of the circuit.

I have the same thing - battery left on overnight does not result in 100% indication. Yet it often creeps up much higher after I have removed the charger! Have come to the conclusion that it is a software problem - terminal voltage tests OK.

-hi Bakman, of course this was my first check Anyway, is getting worse, now it even won't charge when switched off So I'll send it for repair I guess... I hate to wait for a new device, pay a huge amount of money for it and when you finally get it, it's defective

Same issue here. When charging the phone while it's *on*, it results in the indicator stopping at 75%-80%, no matter how long I charge.
I think once when charging through PC/USB, this did not happen and the battery did charge to full.
A soft reset results in the indicator displaying 100% battery however.
So is this a battery problem, or software/hardware problem?

Sounds definately like a s/w problem to me, they will have to provide a fix in a ROM update I guess. Mine is OK at the minute though. Is yours UK or grey import?
Err, I bought the WWE version in Holland. Actually someone bought it for me, but that's not the point.
I did find out that using the advanced config tool to disable the setting "GPRS auto attach" really saves a lot of battery power! Yesterday my phone was idling the whole day and night, and battery only dropped 10-20%.
99% of the time, i charge my phone over night when im sleeping, however everytime i do this i wake to find my phone has frozen. This means anyone who has tried to call or txt me during the night hasnt gotten through. The phone rings for them, but at my end the phone just stays blank.
This is the only time my phone freezes (within limits) and the fact it happens every night without fail seems a tad odd.
My old kaiser did the same but iv started to get a tad fed up of this, does it do the same for anyone else? Or does anyone know a way around it?

Is it plugged into a PCs USB port, using a mains charger (if so is it the official one supplied with the device)? Have you tried swapping charging methods (or chargers if you have a spare) to see if the problem goes away? Do you have a spare battery you can swap in?

Its an offical HTC charger plugged into the wall, and as far as i can tell charging it via the computer is fine, but then again i dont leave it plugged into the computer for 12 hours.
I dont have second battery to try but the fact that this is a totally new phone & battery and i had this problem with my old phone aswell. iv also swopped the chargers around and it still happens.

Sometimes when I leave the wifi mode on it will freeze, make sure the wifi is off at night. Hope this helps.

The next step then is to restore the phone to an 'as new' state in terms of software/ROM/Radio/spl etc (unless others with the same setup can verify this problem never happens for them) and charge it for the normal period solely via USB from a PC. You mentioned you don't normally recharge the phone this way for long periods but try it for a night or two just to see if this makes a difference. It would also help to rule out power fluctuations as a contributing factor if you could power the PC via a UPS. As this has happened now with 2 phones and 2 mains adapters, its extremely unlikely to be a hardware fault and more likely something associated with the configuration or your neigbourhood power supply. If it locks up most nights, take a note of the time displayed on the phone when that happens - is it the same time on each occasion?
What happens if you leave it on charge while in flight mode with all 'options' such as wifi, bluetooth etc turned off (just for diagnostic purposes)? If you can get it to charge properly without locking up in a basic state, then if you reintroduce any differences one by one and test after each change, you'll find the culprit.
This problem just started last night and I can't figure out what's the cause of it. After a few hours into charging, the phone just turns itself on and charging stops!
I'm running stock rom with a few performance tweaks. I'm not sure whether this's software or hardware related and if a hard reset would fix anything.

Are you charging using a PC or directly from adapter?
if from PC, click on the battery icon when the device is on and make sure that "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC." is unchecked
I use the adapter to charge, I did try to untick the option afterwards and now just osberving if it does it again.
May be this's another bug when it's supposedly only applicable when charged from USB.
Charging issue and low battery life
Hi, I have had my X1 for 4 days now and overall I am very happy with the features, and I have obtained a lot of very useful tips from the XDA forum, thanks. However I am experiencing problems charging the phone and also not happy with the battery life. Last night I left the phone plugged into the USB of the pc that I installed activesync on (pc was, of course, also on) I switched the phone off and ensured that the charging light indicators were flashing. This morning the charging indicators were off but the phone was only partially charged. I then plugged the usb cable into the mains charger and the phone charged to full in 1.5 hours. Does this mean that charging via the pc is inefficient? During the day I made no calls and sent 2 texts, I did have messenger and skype running although I put the phone into sleep mode. Its now about 8pm and the battery has died. I have plugged the usb into my laptop (which does not have the activesync software on it) the charging lights are flashing but I dont think that the phone is charging as the battery is draining. I read on this forum that you must have activesync installed on the pc that you want to charge the phone on, but why is this. Whats the point of that, the whole point of being able to charge via usb is that you can top up anytime you are near a pc, and looking at the battery life I assume I will need to top up a lot. Can I have your thoughts please.
i have been in the same position.
it's probably because your laptop / pc is in hibernate mode / power saving mode..hence it doesnt charge.
try disabling it and see how it goes

Hi I can confirm that my PC is set to turn off monitor after 20mins and to never turn off Hard Disks and never go into standby and never hibernate. So I don't think that this is the problem but thanks for your thoughts
How long does/should it take to fully charge the phone via usb? How long does it take yours to charge? Since I wrote the post above I have had my phone plugged into my laptop but with the phone swithed off, the charging indicators lights are pulsating. I have now turned the phone on and the battery is 40% charged from being nearly totally depleted (about one hour of charging) . I do not have Activesync on this pc, so the phone will charge on any PC, I assume.

the battery depleted the next morning and it doesnt turn on again
so maybe it's better to quit active sync before charging?

The charging problem I've observed has a different effect:
when on charge using the adaptor, the battery charges OK to full and then charging ceases (as it should do)
BUT
if the X1i is connected to WiFi on my LAN, after a time (maybe 30 mins), it commences to recharge and never stops, so the battery can become dangerously overheated.
Disconnecting from WiFi and soft-reset seems to bring the system back to normal.
At this stage I don't know the root cause, but I have a new battery on order. When this turns up, I'll try the same routine and post results. Obviously, I suspect (hope, too) that the "smarts" in the battery are faulty.
x1 charging problem
I' have the same problem with my x1 charging.
The phone after i started charging, turn on and stop the charging.
In the mornig the battery is low.
Is there any solution that fix the problem?

In your case I tend to think the problem is with Wi-Fi using more battery than what it's gaining through charging. I had similar problem with a generic mini-USB charger. Most charging problems are associated with either battery or charger itself.

Try this,

I had problems with my phone, discharing in under five hours, and useing 5-6 hours to recharge..
When I got to work today, I exchanged the phone with a new one.. It was at 25%-... Small use, and it was down to 14%....
Now Its been 7 hours, and its back to 69%.. and still charging...

Charging the phone takes forever (4-5 hours) and Im down to 70-65% charge when I get to work after a full nights charge (from 100%). On the way to work I listen to Spotify (no streaming) for 30 min, read a couple of emails... but nothing else...(wifi off but push mail on)
My conclusion was that I used a USB port for charging and my USB port may not delivering a lot of power (ie long charge time, but this was not a issue with other phones on the same USB ports).
I have also read that the battery charge "builds up" after a few recharges, but I have not experienced any difference the last week.
I will try to use the charger tonight (not USB)
The non-USB charger will be faster since it delivers 1 A. If I remember correctly, a normal USB-port only delivers 100 mA - so it should be 10 times faster
With the normal charger from LG.
0 til 100% goes in 2/2.5hours.

That must be USB charging.
From a wall socket I get 10% / 10 mins - 100% charge in ~100 mins.
USB is restricted to 100mA if the device doesn't "connect" to the USB port (identifies itself blabla)
If it does, standard USB is rated at 500mA for each port.
I recommend using the wallcharger, as those usually deliver more juice.
Its not USB charge.. Connected to the "socket" in the wall...
I just noticed on the phone that battery condition is "overheated"....
This is the second phone I have with the same problem.....
oh.. and btw;
ive was done at work at 4pm, battery at 69%..
Now its almost 7pm, and its down to 25 %

That's probably bad... unless the fuses in your house (charge at home) are bad?
Way, too slow and it should not get hot.
I put the phone in "Airplane" mode, and now it charge fast, and keeps the power/current(?)...
Since WiFi is allways disabled, it most be the phone connection that draws all the power out of it....

Experiencing some issues with charging too.
Under heavy load (for instance 3D games), even if my phone is charging with the wallcharger, my battery slowly discharge and my phone eventually shuts off automatically
I also noticed that my phone can get really hot. I had this issue with MCR fr8 and fr12 with and without calibration. No overclocking or fancy kernels. I'm now considering sending my 2x back to LG with an insult letter.
Anyone experiencing this issue as well? Any clue how to fix that (wallcharger > 1A for instance?)
Supposedly the 2X has an issue with Radio usage. Using only 2G networks will improve it alot.
We are hoping for a fix in the Gingerbread ROM...
Also do you have the newest baseband installed when using FR12?
I already experienced this with fr8 and the old RIL so I don't think it's a baseband/RIL mismatch problem. I will see if fr12 and new radio improve things though.
Btw, I can see that phone/data layer takes up as much battery as wifi. Is that a normal ratio on an android phone? Can't remember battery usage on my previous phones.
I just got the OTA update from KitKat to Lollipop (5.0.2) yesterday and I've noticed terrible battery life and very slow charging since then. My phone is always in its charger overnight and when I remove it from the charger in the morning it usually easily lasts until I put it in the charger at night again. During the daytime I do a lot of stuff on it (whatching youtube videos, listen to internet radio, whatsapp, internet browsing, making phonecalls etc).
This morning I removed it from the charger and hardly didn't do anything on it for the first two hours. When I wanted to send a whatsapp, I noticed battery had already fallen to 70% in only 4 hours or so - 4 hours of doing nothing while the phone was in energy savings mode! Half way through the day, with only some whatsapping, battery had fallen to 20%. When I connected it to the charger, it instantly dropped to 8%. After about an hour of charging, it was at 17% and said it would last another 6 hours before the phone would be fully charged. Usually I charge my phone in 1.5 - 2 hours!
When I did the update, I didn't do a factory reset and I would like to only do that as a last resort.
If I look at te battery statistics, I don't see any app using an obscene amount of battery life - the highest being Google Play services with 15%. But what I do notice is that "Cell standby" is responsible for 29% of the battery drainage.
Before I do a factory reset, anyone any tips?

This is directly from HTC tech support. To recalibrate battery and HTC charger when battery rapidly or erratically discharges, this procedure clears all battery stats, coordinates and normalizes charging.
Turn off Fast Boot in settings. Power off phone.
Plug phone into HTC wall charger and charge for two minutes or more
While charging, hold down volume up+volume down+power button and continue holding
Phone will turn on and off repeatedly every 15 seconds or so while continuing to hold all three buttons
Keep this going for 2 minutes, then release buttons WHEN THE PHONE IS ON
Now, let phone charge fully normally (with phone either on or off--doesn't matter) and battery level reporting, charging and battery life should be normalized.
Do this every month or so to keep power system healthy--even if everything seems fine. Also, don't leave phone on charger overnight for best long term battery life (according to HTC tech support: "The first thing they tell us." This is true even though charging is supposed to turn off when battery is at 100%)
Battery recalibration ... Many techs say it's a placebo. But, I will follow this manual, just in case.
I do confirm, though, that with L 5.0.2 charging takes longer, phone drains faster with the same as before apps and usage, phone is often hot, and I've started to get regular 'can't charge, your phone uses more power than available from charger'.
Re phone uses more power than available, it happens with all three original HTC chargers I have, so I have to use the charger from an Asus tablet (1.5A output).
I haven't done the recalibration thing but I did some measurements and I now know why it's charging so slowly, just not what is causing it. The phone isn't switching to high charging mode and keeps charging at around 400mA. This means that when using the phone, it's draining faster than it can charge. I also think it's not switching to standby mode causing the high drain. Often the phone gets hot when it's in my pocket (when it is supposed to be in standby mode) meaning something is still draining the battery fast.
I will do the calibration thing and see if that helps.
I just did the reset thing (holding power + vol up + vol down) for two minutes. It's now charging but I can see it's still not charging in high mode. It's still charging at only 400mA.
Edit: Phone says it wil take 10 hours to charge (it's at 30% now).
Annoying, I know, but I'd factory reset the phone just to make sure the update has 'taken' correctly

I have checked Setings/Power. Mine says Charging on AC, which supposedly means high charging mode.
PS. Again, whatever it might mean, when I get a 'phone uses more power than..' error, I connect the phone to a 1.5A charger (compared to original HTC 1.0A) and it solves the problem. I'm not happy with this solution, though.

There are a few ways I can measure this. I have a "Charger Doctor", one of those inline USB voltage/current meters and I have an "Energy Meter" which measures wattage going out of a 110/220V socket. Both confirm each others measurements. The Charger Doctor says my phone is being charged at 5.1V at 0.4A, and the energy meter says the charger consumes about 2.5W which is about right (the charger looses some energy through heat and the Charger Doctor consumes a bit of energy as well).
But...
To be sure, I tested a few different (but identical) chargers and changing the charger made no difference. But - and here comes the strange part - I tested about 20 different USB cables and with only two my phone charged at 1.0A (which I assume is the M7's max charging current). With all the others it charged with 0.3A-0.5A. Only with those two cables it charges in high charging mode. So apparently something changed in the charger detection. Before the update I was able to charge the phone in high charging mode with other cables as well.
Also, it seems like it's now discharging not as fast as before, but I will be sure tomorrow after it has fully charged and after I've used it all day.
Edit: Yep, charging is at it's normal speed now. It's at 60% and the phone says it will be 1 hour and 1 minute until it's fully charged.
Edit2: Of the two cables it charges at 1.0A with, one is the original charger cable that came with the HTC, and the other is a cable that came with a Duracell Power Bank.
Well, after the three finger calibration, charging seems faster, and I think battery holds longer (or maybe I want to think it does, because still not sure).
One additional observation is in about 20% cases my phone is stuck during boot until I connect or disconnect the charger for a second. By connecting or disconnecting the charger, something triggers the power state and the phone boots normally.
So yes, you may be right about new power management in Android 5.

Well, even though charging times seem normal now, it is slightly erratic. I can see the percentage making jumps up and sometimes down while charging.
Also, battery life still is very poor. Battery now lasts until halfway through the day while before it would easily last all day...
Is there a way to revert to KitKat? Other than a lot of annoyances I haven't noticed a single advantage using Lollipop.

Turn off Fast Boot in settings. Power off phone.
Plug phone into HTC wall charger and charge for two minutes or more
While charging, hold down volume up+volume down+power button and continue holding
Phone will turn on and off repeatedly every 15 seconds or so while continuing to hold all three buttons
Keep this going for 2 minutes, then release buttons WHEN THE PHONE IS ON
Now, let phone charge fully normally (with phone either on or off--doesn't matter) and battery level reporting, charging and battery life should be normalized.
Do this every month or so to keep power system healthy--even if everything seems fine. Also, don't leave phone on charger overnight for best long term battery life (according to HTC tech support: "The first thing they tell us." This is true even though charging is supposed to turn off when battery is at 100%)

lol :silly: you cant rule out that it wont work just because HTC decided to remove the software switch in the power options in its later updates, do the rest of it and skip that part, I dont have the option for fastboot either anymore.

i have done everything i can i even have a battery saver but soon as i put wifi on it just drains so fast maybe a new battery will help as this phone is like 2nd hand so maybe battery dying

Factory reset
I had terrible battery problems after T-Mobile upgraded my HTC One (M7) to Lollipop. The phone was constantly awake and churning with the GPS probing for a signal every few seconds. I'd lose 50% of my battery in a couple of hours. I went through the battery recalibration suggested by HTC support, but it didn't work well. Finally I did the factory reset. It worked perfectly! Now my battery life is better than ever and the phone will go well over 24 hours on a single charge with normal usage. Recovering from the factory reset was easier than I anticipated. Google Play Store remembered and reloaded all my apps automatically. The only headache was having to log in to everything again. Well worth the effort.
I did a factory reset as well and it looks like it has improved battery life. I'm still on my first day after the reset so I won't be able to really tell after I've used it for a couple of days. But like I said, the hard reset seems to have made a difference.
It has been 15 hours now since I unplugged the phone from the charger and it still has 43% left. But I just noticed a few minutes ago that two energy settings were set different than before the hard reset. Screen brightness was set to auto (when before I had set it to it's first dim setting), and data connection was set to switch off after a long period of inactivity. (while before it was set to always on). I've changed those settings and see if that makes a (big) difference.

I have Wifi always on.
Tested it for another day and battery life has definitely improved quite a bit but it's still nowhere near what it used to be with KitKat.

when i woke up this morning my m7 was 100% it's now 11;10 and it,s now 70%
I'm getting exactly the same problem.
HTC support said they never heard about such a problem and their conclusion is to send the phone to be repaired
I don't know how to rollback to previous version and it doesn't looks like to be a new fixed version on the way.
Or at list I haven't heard about it.
I also noticed it doesn't make much of a difference if I turn on energy savings mode.
With KitKat, my phone would easily last the whole day without energy savings mode. Now with lollipop I have to hook it up to a charger in the evening - even with energy savings mode enabled.
The thing that sucks the most is that my phone drains in alarming rate when playing a game, or listening to online radio or watching youtube videos. 30 minutes and battery drops from 100% to 50%. And the phone gets really, really hot. Before lollipop, it would drain perhaps from 100% to 85% and the phone would not heat up at all.
There are so many annoying bugs/features with lollipop, I'm considering an iPhone for the very first time ever as my next phone. Mind you, I've never been a fan of Apple stuff. But Android is just getting ridiculously bloated and simply doesn't work very well anymore. It looks like every update makes my phone less usable. And I hate the fact Google thinks it's perfectly fine to disable/remove stuff that people have come to depend on. Like my notes (amongst man other things). Google in all its wisdom has removed the Notes app making all my notes inaccessible. The only way to get my notes back is to install some third party app from the Play Store and have it transfer my notes to the cloud. First of all, I don't want a third party app handling my notes. And I most certainly don't want my notes stored in the cloud. I travel quite a bit and I don't have internet access everywhere I go, making my notes inaccessible again.
