Not using Google Voice?

no i did uninstall it .. really dont like google voice would that have anything ti do with it?

I would much rather just use sprint vvm if i can get away with it

You might want to log in to your Google account online (via PC) and check your settings. It may still be integrated on your phone. There should be some options there to remove it.

It's Google Voice being a pain in the...
I had the same thing happen to me. It does it by default. Callers hated it, and I missed calls as well.

Its google voice causing the problem. I had the same annoying issue and you have to deactivate google voice from your sprint number. Use this method:

GV help...

How do I get the voicemails from people who call my regular cell number to show up un my google voice thing?
naw you can't do that... give your gv to everyone if you don't want to check both the "messages" and the "voice" inboxes...it works out though...e.g., i give my gv number to everyone but my family so the gv inbox stays uncluttered...
yes, its very easily done.
In your Google Voice settings you can add your phone number to the account. You can then 'attach' that phone number (your original) to the google voice number just for voice messages. If you are using sprint there is a specific link in google voice that will send you the number you need to dial in your phone. Once you do that it will be set up. You then just go into your Call Settings and set Google Voice as your voicemail provider.
Done and working here...
Awesome worked great. Thanks so much
ooops misread and thought you were talking about sms !
Edit: actually you can forward those from GV to regular inbox, not the other way around though...
how do i change my voicemail greeting though?
I don't like it when i call and I hear "thanks for calling a google voice mail user" blah blah ...

Why don't you go looking around in your settings and read up on some of the features of google voice?
One of the nicer things you can do is have different greetings for different people or groups of people.
You can do some other pretty cool stuff if you get a google voice number and start using that as your main number.
if you record your name,,, she will say "someonesomewhere" is not available but if you record a totally different greeting then you'll just replace her entirely...
i changed the greeting for the google number..
but when I call my sprint number i get that google message as well....
dmitrian ..I am going to try that right now..thanks!

Texting that uses the data plan?

Is there an texting app that uses the data plan instead of text plan? I currently only have 200 txts per month and don't want to go over it. I believe iPhone has that type of app and hopefully Android would have one too.
i believe google voice does this

Can confirm from personal experience -- just make sure you turn off SMS alerts in GV settings. In other words, the app on your phone checks for SMS but GV doesn't send a real SMS to your phone.
I don't know if this is still true, but almost every carrier allows txtx from emails.
Example everyone on att has an email address that it [email protected]
If you email them at this address (it will use your data plan), and they will receive it as a txt.
Not sure if ATT changed this you might want to verify that this will go over data.

That does work, but if that person receives your txt and replies back, I think it comes back to your phone as a SMS. So you still use one SMS.
Try Google Voice. You can send SMS from it and when they reply back it goes to your Google Voice number in lieu of your real cell phone number. That way it comes in to the Google Voice app. But just as someone else recommended, make sure you turn off SMS notifications, otherwise every time you get a voicemail or txt message google will send you an SMS message to notify you.
or use google talk, its quicker, and they have a BB/Android/iOS client... AND its already installed on your phone.
I just tried TALK last night, and I have Google Voice. I can get messages, but and reply to them.
But I can't figure out how to send a text to someone in my address book whom I have not received a text from yet. The only people who show up in the contacts list for TALK are people who have Google IM set up in email, and that is very few.
Any tips?

When I go into my regular contact list and tap Send Message I get the option to choose Messaging, Handcent or Google Voice to send the message with. What happens if you just tap send message on a contact?
Edit: Oh you said Google Talk. I didn't know you could send text messages using talk. Nevermind then! But you can use Google Voice. Additionally you can set Google Voice notification to e-mail instead of SMS so you'll be e-mailed when you get a new SMS.
That is interesting. It does NOT come up and ask me how to send it. It just tries to send it.
Now, here is something maybe: I did not ever see any insructions that I need to install Google Voice on my phone. I just now went to the market and searched for it, and am installing right now. (Google seems to me to be horrible about providing documentation/instructions).
....
Ok, it is installed. I just went to contacts, selected send message, and it is the same.
Another thing...I have seen demos that if you swipe a contact to the left it goes into message, and to the right it calls. It calls no matter how I swipe.
Another note: I do not have SMS messaging with AT&T, and in fact I have it turned off, because I don't want people sending me SMS that I get billed for. I wonder if that could have anything to do with this.
By the way, I had been told I needed Google Talk to get the TEXTs that others send me. But...that was when I was on a WinMo phone. Maybe I don't need Google Talk. Maybe I just need to figure out how to get Google Voice working on this phone. Alathough I will say that the text message I did get from a friend I'm trying to test with came in via Google Talk.
Got it working. The install of voice on my phone helped

I'm pretty sure Google Talk is more like a chat IM service than a text messaging service. The person you are wanting to chat with has to have the client installed on their phone as well.
I think Google Voice is the best option for free text messages. You can get a free new phone number, then you just open Google Voice and text away. Anybody who replies to your SMS, their txt will come into Google Voice for free. You can send and receive free text messages all day long.
Not paying AT&T for a texting plan is definitely going to be nice! Thanks for the info.

It will come back to you as an e-mail if you send it that way. I've texted my mom a few times this way and the reply shows up as an e-mail.
Google voice is open now. You'll have a new #, but free texts over data. Very good push integration too.

Email method works. When the person replies, it would come to email, not as text... I used this method over an year, before I switched to google voice recently.
Ping chat works great

[Q] *86 Voicemail

I know this has probably been answered a billion times already, but I can't get the voicemail to go away on aospCMod. I already flashed Google Voice and changed the voicemail number to my own, but the notification still pops up every 3-5 minutes. How do I go about getting rid of it?
You mean you don't want a voicemail at all?
No. I still want voice mail, I just don't want the ghost voice mail notification popping up
Ah, the old phantom texts. Haven't seen that in years. I can't give you a direct link since I'm using the app, but search for the SMS Char Limit thread. It has a solution there. Or you can get a program to block those texts; which at the moment the name escapes me.
And that's really odd for you to still receive those if Google is taking your voice mails.
Super Private Conversation (SPC) from the market. Block the text number in the program and you still get the texts, so VVM still works, but you don't get notifications and your message box doesn't fill up with them.
Try that and see if it works.
Well no, it's not the 9016 texts. Have them blocked with handcent. I mean the ones where if you're on a non sense rom you get a vm notification. It says to call *86 to get the voicemail. But if you do it says it's an invalid number or something. I read somewhere that if you change the number to your own number it fixes...which it didn't.
Nevermind. Found a fix. Since I have Gingerbread there is an option to turn off voicemail notifications. Can't believe I didn't see that.
Where is this option at ? Mine always says I have 8 voicemails, and drives me insane !

I think it's only on aospCMod, but you go into Settings>Call settings and scroll down and turn off voicemail notifications. I use Google Voice which gives notifications from the app itself, not from the phone app, so they stop

[Q] Where is the call answer button?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to answer an incoming call on my tab. I have the overcome 2.0.0 rom, and a Tmobile tab.
I have gvoice set up properly, I'm able to call the tab from another phone, it rings through, and when I slide the notification bar down, I see this, the phone icon (which I tapped and nothing happened), mute, headset, and end buttons. I do not see any other button or way to let me answer the incoming call. I am stumped. This is what I see. What am I missing? Is it the rom? Can anyone please help?
Thanks.
Ok, I'm going to try to answer your question but I have a few myself. Are you using google voice via sip account for your calls? If so, maybe someone has an answer for you, as I do not use google talk. Um, so generally in the Tab when someone calls you, u see the call and use the slider to answer.

Yes, google voice via antisip and ipkall. That picture I posted is what I see when a call comes in. That's the notification pulldown. When a call comes, I have to wake the screen and then use the pulldown, but there's no slider or anything to answer the call.
Sorry I can't be of more help but I'm not using clip at the momment. Have you read the overcome thread to see if anyone else was having problems with voip or their website?
Don't you tap the phone icon (green button)?
he's saying it does nothing

Yes I tried that. It doesn't do anything, it doesn't change color or move, it's frozen just the way it looks in that pic. I'm wondering if it's missing in the rom. I can call the phone, and it rings and rings, but I can't physically answer it. I haven't tried via bluetooth headset or something like that yet.
I bet your going to need a different app to make this work.
I use GV on my SGT, and it works fine.
I agree with Starlog. For sip or voip apps, they usually have their own dialer app.
Go to the market and search voip, sip, or antisip.

Ok, I dl'd the apps Gvoice, and Gvoice callback since I think those were the ones needed? When I call through Gvoice callback, the GV calls my Gtab back to connect the call, but I can't pick it up, since I can't figure out why the button won't work. It rings the number I'm calling, but because Gvoice calls the number I'm dialing as well as my gtab and I can't push a button to connect, I'm stuck. Maybe I need a new dialer?
Ok shooting in the dark here, but isnt there in settings > call settings go to internet call settings. check those options in gingerbread under accounts and see if that helps. Again, I do not use sip or voip.

I have the settings set up right. I can get calls coming through, but I have no way to answer them. Maybe bluetooth will work. I'll have to check when I get back home.
I have same problem. Voip callas work, but can not answer incoming call.
2.6.35.7 Overcome-v3.1.0#16
Overcome v2.0.1-HERMES
Must have been the overcome Gold ROM. I flashed CM7 and with the same settings, it all works, and I can make and receive calls. Thanks for all the help!
Now I have updated new Ikaros, but same same. Can not answer internet call?
Does anyone know the solution?!?
I have now upgraded to Jupiter. Now I can reject the call, but not still can answer the call.
I can not write to the overcome-conversation because I have too few messages.

Google Voice Issues

Hey Guys,
Has anyone managed to get Google Voice to work on the S5? On every other phone that I've had, and it's been a lot in the last year, I always just install the app, run through configuration and it's fine. On the S5, I simply can't get it to work.
I only use Google Voice for my voicemails. I don't make or receive calls with my Google Voice number. Every time I run through the setup it gives me an error and then says if I want to change providers or something like that. If I hit yes, it fails. If I hit no, my Google Voice voicemail doesn't work.
Any ideas? I went to the Google Voice website and deleted my phone and added it again with no success. What is going wrong?
Thanks!

you probably need to re-forward VM to GV. My S5 kept giving me an error when I tired to do it via the app, so I manually forwarded to my GV# via..
*004*xxx-xxx-xxxx# (where xxx-xxx-xxxx is your Google Voice phone number) then Press Call
PS: I'm not certain if you need to, but I set up my AT&T voicemail before I forwarded to GV,
I guess I got lucky -- I ran through the GV setup via the app and it worked perfectly the first time. I kept having issues when trying to set it up on my mothers S4...had to eventually reboot her phone and change it manually in settings. For my S5, it worked fine the first run through.
I also set up AT&T visual voicemail before GV. I did this just to double-check if my old voicemails were still there.
