Rotating to landscape semi-consistently causes soft reboot - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

A couple of days ago i started notcing i would get random soft reboots, and i narrowed it down to when the screen would rotate. Im not sure what would cause it and ive tried undoing all changes that ive made that i can remember but its still present. The only major recent change worth mentioning is I now have a pebble i use, but that doesnt seem like something that would cause this, i won't rule it out though. I am rooted, and safestrapped, on 4.4.2, running XDX 1.0, and i have xposed and busybox. Im really out of ideas, its not constant but once it starts, it starts getting worse and worse and the ohone starts heating up, so i'd like to fix it.

Wanted to add real quick, seems to happen mostly with videos or media related things.
Sent from my SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Ok so a few new updates, it happens with everything, not just media. Also i finally had an error pop up once before the crash, and its systemui crashing(assumed thats what was it, wasnt suee though). Another thing ive noticed is its per app, i'll open an app, rotate, crash, then when it finishes soft rebooting i can open that app up again and rotate fine, no issues, but any other apps seem to make me go through that process again. I also originally thought it only happened when i was low on battery, but that was because i only noticed it with low battery cause it was the end of the day, when my battery is low and i rotate the phone to watch YouTube and whatnot. That's all ive got, i'll try to get a logcat if i can.
Sent from my SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Ok so scratch almost everything. It can happen going from portrait to landscape, or landscape to portrait, and even after ive rotated in an app and caused a crash to "allow" it to be rotated, it will still do it anyway sometimes. This is getting kind of ridiculous, i really wish i could figure out what the heck is going on.
Sent from my SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Alright heres a logcat, its rather large and i appologize, but ive given it a lookthrough and it seems that if you find the two instances of rotate, thats where it starts, because my exact process was, start the logcat, turn on rotation, rotate, wait for reboot after crash to complete. http://filebin.ca/1vrJXzLVARmn/logcat.txt

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll give it a shot. It seems weird tjat itd just randomly pop up though, usually a problem with xposed would be immideately noticeable, no?

Not necessarily and if it works it was an easy fix if not just one thing that was ruled out.

Gear keeps rebooting

Hello, I've noticed my Galaxy Gear keeps rebooting randomly. It has no problem when stationary but when I'm driving or walking around it just keeps rebooting. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam

Nope everything is stock. Tried to reboot note 3, tried to reboot the gear. Nothing helped. Tried to factory reset the Gear as well, still didn't fix anything.
I'm wondering if it's something with the accelerometer cause it does fine when it's sitting on my desk.
Maybe a faulty unit with a loose battery connection...?

Strange, I would reflash the stock image in ODIN..
Iv had to do this a few times myself, mucking around with system files and bricking my gear
Hey...this may solve my missing camera app problem. Anyone know where I can get my hands on the image?

Adam, I had the same issue when i got my watch. I noticed it was randomly shutting off. More investigating revealed that it shut off if moved/wiggled.

Run over to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and search for SM-V700.
Download the most relevant image country/carrier, it doesn't have to match up exactly..

Awesome. Oddly, everytime you do anything on this device it seems you need to rerrot and reapply all of your apps. I just put an entire image on it and it kept everything!
Most importantly, I got my camera back
Thank you.

I think you are right, with one caveat. I just went all day without it happening, I disabled the auto screen wake-up though. I think it doesn't have the motion problem if it's not trying to detect any motion.
What did you do with yours? Get a new one?
Ever find a fix for this? Mine does it even with auto wake up disabled and has been since I got the watch. Thinking I may have to send it in for warranty replacement
Temporary Fix to my Problem
Hey, so I had the same exact problem. It was so bad to the point where if I moved the gear at all, it would shut down/reboot. How I fixed it was I turned it on without moving the Gear too much (a very hard task). I kept it on for two hours without moving it; after, I noticed it wouldn't automatically turn off again while I put it on my wrist. I don't know how this fixed the issue, but at the moment it is working well without shutting off/rebooting. I will update you guys on how the Gear is working in the next few days. Hope this clears up any confusion because I know I was very frustrated.
I have the same proble...randomly reboot and sometimes switching off and i can not switch it on again till i put it into the carging case. When the carging started,i remove the watch from the case and i can switch it on. So i dont think its a hardware issue. Will try to put the tizen system on it.
You guys are correct, the moment motion detection is stopped, this gear SMV700 stops rebooting while walking, driving, moving basically.
There is no precise info on this even firmware upgrade doesn't fix it.

Reduced voice to text capability?

Has anyone else noticed a reduced ability of the voice to text capability, that it can no longer translate long phrases? I've also noticed that it often connects on the first try during a search, but quickly cancels itself, needing a second try to get it right.
That happened before the update to me it SUCKED.. TRY resetting voice cleaning cache and rebooting once or twice

Update, I was gonna do a factory reset after an update/backup, and the Turbo went through the app updating thing like when switching to ART. When I took LP, it did it, but I guess not 100%. As right now, all searches go through on the first try. I WAS thinking of re-ARTing the Turbo in the first place, but had no knowledge how to force it. If someone knows how, PLZ post!
Ok, looks like the was some kind of conflict with Better Keyboard 8's voice-to-text. A quick round trip to safe mode seems to have ironed things out for now.

Top of the screen becomes unresponsive suddenly

I've noticed since I first got this phone that the top of the screen becomes unresponsive randomly. Starting a touch registers nothing, but the screen still functions like normal in a dragging touch situation.
The only way to fix it is to reboot. It's gotten to a point where it's annoying to deal with, especially if you're trying to do multiple things at once like replying to several text messages.
Any idea what the issue is?
Sounds like you need to call Motorola

I don't think it's an actual problem with the hardware, but rather the software.
For example, when it happens it usually prevents me from swiping down the notification shade, but if I tap on hold in the middle of the notification bar, it appears long enough for my to pull it down.
Besides, if it was hardware based, how could a reboot fix it?
And I also bought this phone second hand so I don't know how that would affect calling Motorola.
Hmm have you done a factory reset?

The only thing I can think of is if the phone was damaged and the glass replaced there could be an issue with the repair or the top of the digitizer.
Does it work when you apply pressure?
Do you have a screen protector on it? Tempered glass?
Do you have a case like the otterbox that has the screen protector built in?

1. No, its more like the top or the screen becomes disabled. One quick reboot and its back to normal until it happens again.
2. It did have a tempered glass screen when I bought it but I took it off.
3. No, I use my phone completely naked.
It's not much of an issue, its just a huge inconvenience.

That would make me mad when it does happen.
You could go into safe mode and run that for a day to see if the issue pops up. Then you will know it's a software not hardware issue.
Push and hold the power button until the power menu pops up. Press and hold the power off until the safe mode prompt pops up.
Give that a try.

I'll have to do this some other time, as I have classes today and I need my apps. I'm starting to think it might be a bug with Lollipop, my apps, or maybe a combination or both as I have experienced it on two ROMs, and I'm thinking of trying another ROM.
In the mean time, any other ideas?
Are you using Facebook Messenger? I've read quite a few times (on XDA and Reddit) that Facebook Messenger and more specifically "chat heads" are causing dead spots in the top corner(s) even when none are on the screen.

I have never installed Messenger, only the regular Facebook app. I uninstalled it just yesterday however.
Perhaps I have another app that causes those dead spots? But they would have to create it all across the top part of the screen.

Do you have any other app that has the ability to produce floating "chat head" like items? The only other app I know that uses such a feature is Flyperlink, a new app (or maybe not so new, I don't know) that a lot of people just started talking about recently.

Not that I am aware of; unless I did it a while ago and can't remember.
I think I may have figured it out though. I use AwSMS as my primary messaging app, and the Heads Up notification allows for quick reply if you swipe down. I think it behaves sorta like the floating chat things someone said earlier, because I can watch videos and leave most games running in the background without it pausing as I type.

youtube app crashes my Note 8

I noticed a bug in the YouTube app on my device (note 8 SM-N950F).
while a video is playing if I minimized the movie and then maximized it (quickly few times in a row) the phone crash to boot.
I didn't face any kind of crash in the month I have it except this scenario in the youtube app .
the app version 12.44.53
as you can see :
https://youtu.be/OPA2KdPunsA
anyone else can try and report ?
thanks
I have had the same thing. It would just randomly crash out and reboot my phone when minimising/maximising videos from the little preview window when scrolling.

I manage to find more info by trying diffrent things. I think maybe it's memory management bug. If the device is fresh from boot with nothing else running then it won't crash. But with some apps open in the background then it always happens. not randomly at all.
Did you solved it?

It happens so rarely that I haven't really done anything about it. It will happen out of the blue one day and won't show up for weeks. I have gone on the Samsung Members app and it detected an unexpected reboot which it reported to Samsung so maybe they will fix it eventually.
Same thing for me. Happened already 3 times. While resizing the window or passing from portrait to landscape.

I've checked now and it won't crash. I don't know if it's related but Yesterday I've installed the latest OTA update (which was the first since I've got my unit). Any way it's seems fixed as far as i can see. Didn't do anything except updating all my apps and the unit itself to the latest version available. If it will happen again I'll keep you update.

Same, i also got the first update on my Note8 yesterday too.

Severe lag when using after its been off for a while.

My Galaxy Tab S2 seems to lag for a couple of minutes when I first go to use it. This is after I've left it just on the side for a few hours or overnight (not from boot-up).
When I try to open an app it freezes then a few seconds later it does what it was supposed to do then it freezes again. I force close all but this doesn't really help until I've done it a few times.
I wasn't sure if this was something to do with the built in auto Wifi off so switched that off and it seemed to improve it slightly but it still happens. I tried using some auto WiFi off apps instead but they didn't even work.
After this first couple of minutes it then works fine. I uninstalled all apps and it was ok but it wasn't before long it came back. It wasn't particularly noticeable after any specific app.
Is there a way to analyse what is causing this lag in the background?
I'm experiencing the same problems. I wonder what could be causing this?

I've noticed this for a long time. If you use a system monitor you will notice that the Disk reading will be at 100% for some minutes, leaving the tablet unresponsive.
I don't know how to identify which apps are doing the reading.
