I dont't know if this helps but in the thread for the patcher app it was mentioned that if you needed to dual boot with a TW based rom it would need to be the primary in order for it to work properly otherwise the mods would need to be patched before flashing.

I swt tw as primary patched cm12 and gapps. But recovery was freezing so i tried to manually paych the file as stated. But than when i got to flash vie recovery it says fail. I have no idea what to do since i did exactly as it said.

My guess would be try asking in the dual boot thread. Others have gotten it to work.

I can confirm this works in T-Mobile note 4. You just have to follow the steps.

It works trust me, I'm a senior member

I managed to get it to flash but....
after i manually patch the gapps and rom, i flash the two files successfully and then i reboot into my secondary rom. I set the kernel then i set up my rom up with the apps i use. I went into the dual boot patcher app and tried to dual boot to my primary rom, it says "please wait"...then it says successfully switched ROM..but it never switches back to my primary rom. Any ideas?

It should when you reboot the device.

Just got it working, after so much trouble. Tmobile Note4 running TW Rapture as primary and CMRemix as secondary. Still no luck with the second step of patching, but manual patch has worked. This one is a better written guide, I suppose.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get into trying to dual boot my phone... both my desktop and laptop have ridiculous multi-boot schemes
The main reason I haven't yet delved into this is a fairly simple question that I haven't been able to find the answer to: How much free storage space is required / will be used by installing an additional ROM and on which partition(s)?
I'd really appreciate if anyone who has this working could fill me in on that info
BTW another great thread with instructions, etc. is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/dual-boot-n910f-snap-dragon-variant-t3065211

AOSP roms has very small footprint, that's why they are insanely fast... The roms itself with gapps only takes about a gigabyte, if it's CM or other aosp roms. If you dual boot 2 TW roms, of course it's gonna take huge space. It also depends on how many apps you are going to install on the second rom

Root My Vivid

Hello. I am new to this forum. I did do searching before I came here. I am sort of a noob so sorry for dumb questions. I wanted an MIUI theme on my phone. I tried MiHome but it doesn't change the UI so I want to get the MIUI ROM on my phone but I wasn't sure how. I know you have to root your phone first, but I read somewhere that MIUI isn't compatible with different rooting procedures like CyanogenMod. If thats true, which one is it compatible with? Is it possible for me to get MIUI on my phone? I have an HTC Vivid (of course) with Android ICS 4.0.3. Can anyone provide me with a guide on how to do get MIUI on my phone, preferably a video with a step-by-step description (yes, thats how noobish I am). Also, what are the odds of me rooting my phone if I follow the steps exactly as told? Sorry for a ton of questions. To sum things up, I would like to get MIUI ROM on my phone but have no idea how. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Alright....you need to do ALOT of reading...I only say that so you don't brick your phone...but here's some info as well as how to get miui
It doesn't matter how you root your phone, you can still flash any Rom...you don't even need to be rooted to flash roms
Cyanogenmod is not a rooting method, it is an aosp rom...you cam flash from cyanogen but our device doeant even have a cyanogenmod Rom (well there is one but it was discontinued...for now)
In order to get miui you will need to do the following:
1) unlock bootloader
2) get recovery
3) download miui onto your phone (can't be any miui...has to be one made for our phone...you can find it on rootzwiki.com)
4) flash miui
More detail:
In order to unlock bootloader and get a recovery I suggest using Hansen vivid toolkit that is stickier in the dev section...its the easiest most newb friendly way to unlock bootloader and get a recovery...for the most part all you do is plug in your phone and click a few buttons...here's the toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003

I guess I'm forced to use my slow PC. Hopefully it won't shut down in the process or else I'll be screwed. :/ Thanks again! I'll let you know if it works out if you want.
Just some ideas , if your pc is slow you can download and of the files you need on your phone then transfer them over to the pc , also if you download the tool kit you shouldn't need anything else but the Rom , if you get s off you will need to do a couple of things , but as mg said do some reading on this subject to kinda get an idea as to what your working with , make sure you kinda understand it so you don't brick your ph. Better safe than sorry .
Good luck and if you have questions there is a lot of good people here and would be glad to help.

Help! I managed to root my phone, which is good. I am currently using WCX. I am not sure how to flash the rom. I tried going to my internal sd card and installing the miui zip file from there. After it reboots my phone, an htc logo loads, then it takes me to some chinese. It has like big chinese words on top in red, then in the middle it has white words, and in between the white words, it loads from 0 to 100 but I have no idea what to do now. It just leaves me stuck on this page! Can anyone help me? Do I need to uninstall the rom then follow a correct process of installation or can I just do the correct process? Also, please don't redirect me to some page, because I did a lot of googling and I found one which would help me, but the site is down. I am sure it isn't a long process. This is what I did:
1. Manually put the zip file into my internal sd card.
2. Rebooted my phone to recovery.
3. Installed the zip file, which flashed the rom.
Is that correct? Can someone please help me! Thanks!

1. Manually put the zip file into my internal sd card.
2. flash boot.img via fastboot (The boot.img should be in the zip of the rom You have to flash the boot.img - aka the kernel)
3. Rebooted my phone to recovery. Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, factory reset
4. Installed the zip file, which flashed the rom.

I tried what you said. I am using the All In One tool kit that someone told me to use so I flashed the kernel (boot.img) through that, assuming it is fastboot. I then rebooted my phone to recovery and selected the zip file, it flashed it. I rebooted my phone and it still takes me to that chinese screen. Is there a different MIUI ROM zip file download? I used this one: androidfilehost.com/main/HTC_Holiday_Developers/rafyvitto/MIUI_ICS_V4/
Maybe a different file would work? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I tried applying the Ultimate Iphone Theme v7.0 but it doesnt work. I go to themes and select it but it doesn't apply. I tried rebooting but it still doesnt work. I have the MIUI ROM on my phone. Why doesn't the Ultimate Iphone Theme apply? I really like it. Can anyone give me a step-by-step on how to install it because there are no good tutorials online. With the ROM I used, since I am S-On (which I assume you are too since you did not do the wire jump thing from what I read) after you initially flash the boot.img file using fastboot, you need to flash the rom, which you said you did. Then go back in and reboot to bootloader, and flash the boot.img again. It may have been just specific to the Rom I used, but that is the instructions I followed for mine. I hope you made a nandroid before you flashed Miui in case you ran into these troubles....

[Q] how do you

Several Qs
1) how do you pick a rom? Theres so many and i cant tell how theyre different
2) ive ran cf auto root, so im rooted. Is that all i need to be able to add a rom?
3) how do i get double tap to wake and moto voice? (Custom phrase and google voice even when screen is off?
4) i heard there are certain things on the screen that will increase burn in chamces, how do i fix that?
5) im coming for a verizon note, can i add multi window to the nexus 6?
6) i read a lot of roms are in beta, meaning theres updates. Im new to all this and rather not have to update a lot/re do the rom process. How do i keep updating to the minimal?
7) im a bit overwhelemed by the xda forums, and im not really sure how to procede in adding a rom to my nexus. With the cf auto root they had a how to video so i managed that, otherwise im totally lost as ive never done any of this before.
1. You pick what ROM suits what you like best. There are many choices out there but some popular ones include Liquid Smooth, Bliss Pop, and Rastapop.
2. You need to install a custom recovery I.e. install TWRP in order to flash a custom ROM. There is info about doing this on the Original Android Development section.
3. It's included in almost every custom ROM's kernel. You can add this without a ROM by flashing a kernel (Elemental X, Lean Kernel, Franco Kernel etc..) Most custom ROMs have a kernel that goes with them enabling this.
4. It hasn't been ported over yet and may not be so you can't get it on the Nexus 6 currently.
5. No ROM has added thus yet, but I'm sure its in the works. Paranoid Android and Omni ROM had this for KitKat so its only s matter of time before we get it in lollipop.
6. You don't need to update the ROM nightly if it has an update but if you have a bug it's recommended to flash the new one. It comes with the territory for most of the ROMs and it's really easy to flash the updates. You could wait for the official stable build or deal with the possibility of flashing updates.
7. There are many guides in the General section for the Nexus 6 that can guide you through the process of flashing a custom ROM.

1, try out a few yourself, pick the one that suits your needs the best.
2. you do not have to have root to flash any rom or kernel. you do have to have an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery.
3. you dont.
4. if it happens, then it happens. the only right answer.
5. google was working on multi windows, if for the nexus 6 i dont know. besides for that, you can not add it.
6. all roms add updates, some are tiny, some are larger. all you have to do is download the rom and update it via your recovery. takes about 5 minutes.
7. its all up to you to read about the rom, or do other research. no one here on xda will hold your hand while you learn. its all up to you.

I haven't used that ROM so I couldn't tell you first hand.
So i found this to get twrp.
http://nexus5.wonderhowto.com/how-to/install-custom-recovery-nexus-6-0158768/
Once its installed will that make the recovery? The article menisons a Nandroid backup tho, what is that?
Edit found
" First and foremost, when using custom recovery to install various hacks, you should always have a backup handy in case things were to go awry. This is called a nandroid—"NAND" as in flash memory, and "droid" as in Android.
TWRP has made this process about as simple as it gets. From the home screen, simply tap Backup to begin. From here, leave all the options ticked just as they are, and swipe the slider at the bottom to create your backup.
The Ultimate Guide to Using TWRP: The Only Custom Recovery You'll Ever Need
The Ultimate Guide to Using TWRP: The Only Custom Recovery You'll Ever Need
This will create a set of image files that function as a snapshot of your device's current setup. If you ever need to restore this backup, every tiny little aspect of your device will be recreated as if nothing ever changed.
Because nandroids are snapshots of everything, they can take up quite a bit of storage on your device. For this reason, you may want to consider copying the file over to your computer via USB cable—they will be in your TWRP/Backup folder."
So instal twrp, make a nandroi, copy it to my pc. Then i can flash a ROM?

i always keep one nandroid backup in my phones storage. that way, if i need to restore it, its always around. many times you cant get to your computer until later or many times your access to your computer will not work as well. so keeping it in your storage is very wise.

the rom always gets flashed first. if not, it will overwrite everything you flashed before it. so flash rom first, then anything else in whatever order.

No, should show up either way. Make sure you're using the USB cable that came with the nexus 6. I know my old S4 cable doesn't work for some reason.
It also won't show up as a separate drive in windows, it shows up as a "connected device" or something along those lines. I can't remember exactly as I'm not at my PC.
Also, make sure you're mounted as a media device. There should be a notification to toggle it when you plug the phone in. I think you can also toggle it from settings > storage and the three dots in top right. Again, can't remember exactly as I'm not at my PC.

you can copy either or. but you will have to put it back in the exact same place for it to work again on the phone. in the twrp folder, in backups, in the same folder. as i said, i dont keep backups on my computer(but have once in the past).
Well I flashed it and forgot the gapps so I'll try that when I get a chance.
Idk if it was normal or a bug, the boot animation for liquid smooth seemed to loop? I pressed my power button for a few seconds and the screen turned off. When I woke it up again it was just at my home screen

A PhilZ Touch recovery for the Galaxy S5 Plus (G901F) Lollipop

Starting with a nice script by @Phil3759, I compiled a PhilZ Touch recovery for the Galaxy S5 Plus as this phone, by now, is widely spread over Europe. I took also some parts of the cwm from @Chenglu (Xiaolu). I didn't test all functionnalities, but, normally, this shouln't be very different from what is existing for Lollipop. A file is attached. Use ODIN or dd.
All credits are for these two guys, specially for @Phil3759 and many thanks to them.
Enjoy !
NEW VERSION V2.3 : [Chttp://cdn1.xda-developers.com/images/2015/editor/color.pngOLOR="Lime"] extSdCard (mount/unmount, save/restore...) WORKING !
adb (under Ubuntu or equivalent. For Windows, use Koush's UniversalAdbDriver) WORKING !
exfat (mount, umount,format) WORKING
Flashing this recovery will trip the knox counter (knox=0x1) !
Please look at a new release including F2FS and NTFS supports - it is version 2.3 + F2FS + NTFS - :

think you forgot the file
I uploaded the file for the second time. As I am very new on this forum, I don't know exactly what to do in case of a failure. I hope It will be fine.
OBSOLETE ! SEE V 2.2 at the beginning of the thread.

You are right.
it is a first step and only a strict compilation of @Phil3759 sources. Before adding other properties, I need test reports upon what is working and what is not. Then the first job will consist in making recovery seeing the extSdCard. Moreover, if I compiled this recovery, it is mainly to try to add f2fs formatting in order to replace the ext4 filesystem.
good work, when you get the ext sdcard working I will start using it.
Is this able to use backups made by the older CWM we been using?

v2 works perfectly here, formatted and flashed a rom from extsdcard perfectly! great work mate :good:
I just noticed it says lollipop, does this mean this recovery wont work with kitkat roms?
issues I found
with touch interface enabled and pressing the circle button, I often by mistake do 2 actions, it seems it repeats even if the repeat key option is disabled.
date/time is completely wrong. time zone is set correct but the time displayed is completely wrong, my local time is 16:37 4 may and its displaying 8:14 5 may.
setting brightness has no effect, always same brightness.
dim screen delay also doesnt work (screen never dims)
ok for now I having to revert to the basic cwm as my extsdcard is exfat.

I didn't try kitkat roms as I don't need them anymore. If bootloaders are not different it could work.
Touch interface is very sensitive. Try to lower the Scroll Sensitivity.
Time appears foolish. Just tick the Qualcomm Time Daemon and you get the right time
exfat is a real problem and I try to solve this question.

bootloader kitkat and lollipop are different
so what issues does different bootloader cause?
I was able to access the recovery fine with a kitkat rom installed.

CPL1 Firmware/ Rom Stock Plus

CPL1 Stock Plus Rom
I would just like to share an enhanced version of stock note 4 with the only "foreign" app being the grace InCallUI mainly because I have yet to locate a guide on how to make all the buttons layout correctly and there is also very minor cosmetic changes (removed words from lock screen and extended the drop-down panel to go all the way across the screen). All features and modifications were done by me using guides from @Kamy, @ikrom, @jovy23, @asc1977, @EMSpilot, @tdunham, @daxgirl, @tkari4, @Hani K., @Misterxtc and the InCallUI ported by @Albe95. Last but certainly not least, all this was made possible with @ASSAYYED's great rom kitchen and @Ticklefish's Tickle my Android.

Yes, the firmware includes everything except recovery and aboot. Also a few things I forgot to mention, the switch to turn on volume up for flashlight is in the display settings and to set the apps for toolbox you just long press on the toolbox icon (when activated) and then drag it up to the edit section at the top of the screen. Sorry guys I'm terrible at writing the info and summary for these roms but hopefully I can get it figured out one day.

I understand. Please clarify for me...
I'm on pj2 unlocked/rooted. I want to stay unlocked/rooted. Do I flash the "partial".zip, or Odin the "full" ? :fingers-crossed:
When I read through hsbdr's post's, I must have 5 or six tabs open
I prefer instructions simple, and retail and Dev posts/instructions separate from each other. As well as return to "unrooted" or "keep root" posts. Many have accidentally locked their BL as a result. There is no reason to include a "return to stock-locked" link in with a custom rooted ROM post/links. Uhg
Thank you for keeping it simple for us, and all your work!

Yeah it does get a little confusing. That's the main reason I just posted my own link just to make sure I'm not linking to the wrong thing. Fun fact while testing all this out, I was able to flash pj2 roms while I was on the cpl1 firmware and everything worked. I just tested one rom but it seems like once you upgrade your firmware you may not have to downgrade again if you want to go back to another rom.

The first couple times I tested a firmware that I made, I was terrified of locking my bl. I flashed the one I posted and then tested for downgrade and all is good, but it doesn't seem to be necessary to downgrade again. As far as differences between them the only thing I noticed was more security stuff and some different bloatware.
Forgive me...
So the "full firmware link" (download file name: "cpl1_tar_32bit_ext4") doesn't include the recovery and aboot files(?)

That's correct. If you flash it and let it boot you'll have your custom recovery, unlocked bootloader, no root, no busybox, cpl1 modem/kernel, and odexed system. That way if someone wants pure stock they can just flash the supersu file and your set.

I just tried the email zip at this post and it worked. When I get off work I'll test those others. They all should work but if you don't want to be the guinnie pig I can do it.
So oscar works? I thought it might need an update but that's good to know.

Honestly, I only use that app when testing it and I haven't noticed any battery drain, but I can't say I've ever checked either. I wonder if it just needs to settle in. Maybe someone that uses it more can chime in to see if it's an issue for everyone. If you want to, see if after a while it goes back to normal range and if it doesn't try to get a log and we can see what we can come up with.

If Odin completed it should have at least updated your firmware. If that's the case you could just go ahead and flash the rom. All the files from the full firmware get overwritten anyway. Just make sure you do a complete wipe (everything but your sd/Ext sd) and you should be good to go.

@kevintm78...thank you for this. I had lost 4g somewhere in all my flashing. I tried reflashing partial firmware and even restoring backups wouldnt give me 4g again.I was getting ready to go through the entire lock, unlock, root process again when I found this thread. I downloaded the full firmware in the op, flashed with flashfire, rebooted into recovery, wiped dalvik, data, cache, and rebooted system. I now have 4g back. I made a nandroid of stock, and then clean flashed LOS and still have 4g. So thankful to you!!

Phone unable to get past CM13 boot logo (with video)

Basically, I had to do a battery pull on my LG D415, after the better pull, I booted up the device like I normally would. After starting the device, I am now experiencing an issue where I am unable to get past the CM13 boot logo, where it will continue the booting animation with the CM13 logo, and then the device will just shut down. Attached is a video of this happening.
Is this essentially the inevitable bootloop that is found in many Android devices? If so, how can I go about fixing the issue? I had a lot of stuff on the device and would prefer to not have to reflash anything, as I spent already hours setting up the device in the first place.

Usually a bootloop restarts your phone or doesn't pass the CM (in this case) logo.. I think u can classify as bootloop nevertheless.. u can try reflashing the same version of cm13 on top of that.. you maybe won't loose anything important but I don't know what you had done in your device.. it's just my opinion..

I don't know.. again it's your decision.. but if your going to flash, try 1st without Gapps.. if they don't stay then flash Gapps.. btw I saw u want to download cm13.. that's a bummer because cyanogen is over.. they closed CyanogenMod OS. So no more cm's for anyone. Instead u have lineage OS that's made by CM team and we don't have official. It's the same with changed brand.. Oh yeah, I totally forgot that CyanogenMod closed down its OS. This is a huge bummer, as this essentially means I need to find a new ROM anyways...
Any suggestions? Anything super stable, and runs fast is what I was looking for. If not, I might just go back to the stock ROM and stay rooted or something.

Thanks for the advice, I'll go ahead and take a look at it! As long as it's stable, and good to use as a daily driver, it works for me.
Though, I am currently having an issue with booting into TWRP to flash the ROMs, as I keep trying the volume up + power button steps to get into recovery, but it's just sending me directly to the CM13 loading logo. And because I can't even get into CM13 because of the boot issue, I am not sure if I can connect the device to a computer... Any advice on how I can fix this issue?

Haha silly me, yes volume down + power did the trick. I always get confused with that because it seems to be different for many devices. Yeah as I posted in my other thread, this phone is meant for a friend who uses it daily, it sounds like that lineage 13 is pretty much fit for the task? Would it receive updates in the future? I am always open for trying other ROMS of course, as long as they are 100% working and have no issues/

So I installed lineage OS, but for some reason can't provide root access to apps? Attached a screenshot, not sure why it's not allowing me to select apps, and only showing ADB...
EDIT: No idea how, but the SIM card reader stopped working... I tried flashing another ROM just to see if it was lineage, but it wasn't. The phone is still under warranty, but I assume if I send it back it'd have to be unrooted... any idea how I can go about that?
