Branding on AT&T edge? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The fact the AT&T puts any sort of branding on a device they had absolutely zero impact on developing, producing, etc... really bothers me. Mainly because its so ugly and takes away from the look of the device.
Anyone knows if the edge will be subject to this unjust abuse?

Yep. Check out AT&Ts website. They put their logo on it. While it's not as intrusive as it could be, the fact does indeed remain that it shouldn't be there at all.

Agreed. Just the small Death Star below the camera instead of the word Samsung.
I'm curious to see how bad their bloat is. T-Mobiles is not bad but att rams more crap in their devices including that AWFUL Ready to go app the pops up on first boot. Ruins the set up process.

Wtf!!!?!!!!!!!! Why would they not put it where it says "Galaxy S6 Edge" that would actually almost be an improvement because Samsung shouldn't have put all that wording on the back to begin with.
I might get the Tmo just because of the branding. Smh. F*** ATT

I wouldn't mind it if they would do it better. Like on the One m8/9 its not bad at all. But they removed the word Samsung for the damn logo? That unacceptable.

Is there anyway to disable that? Also is this an lte device?

pretty sure that's gonna require a custom ROM.
When there is a notification, the att icon is hidden temporarily. So maybe take an app that displays battery level or sth for now and wait for custom rom.
So if I had a weather app or something that would hide the att nonsense? Two things holding me back from getting this that stupid att symbol and no 4.3.

Nope, it's evolved to always be there regardless of actual notifications.
Honestly, to me, the AT&T logo in the status bar and the empty space when on wifi are the only problems with this phone.
The AT&T logo just really pissing me off... They already branded the back why shove it in our faces?
All I ask is for a rom with these two issues fixed, and nothing else touched. Then I would be at your mercy : )

Most people don't realize how powerful carriers are in the United States. They have a disease that needs to be eradicated gradually. The Moto X is the most unmolested contracted phone to ever hit AT&T through direct subsidy. Its a cause to celebrate, although artifacts of molestation do exist in the form of the AT&T logo on the back of the phone, the text in the notification center, and the 2 apps that come pre-installed.

Yes they are, and they do need to be cut down bigtime.
I don't buy my computer from comcast or my bathtub from the water co. I'm ready for them to be nothing more than dumb pipes.
I try to buy things from the google play store just to support some positive change in the US's wireless model.

Yea the gap is crazy. On the One, you see the 4G LTE logo the whole time, so there is no gap, but you constantly see the 4G even when on WiFi.
not sure why the logo bothers so many folks......
if I had to choose I would rather have the logo than the soft and purple camera.
patiently waits for my 32 gig black on black so that I can moan about the camera and celebrate the remainder of the phone.

The camera is one OTA update away from being on par or better than the GS4 and iPhone. Little too much processing, and runs up the ISO high which introduces noise in low-light situations. Add in a little more saturation for colors, and they're golden.

anyone care to share what the big deal about the logo is?

Came across something strange today.....

Few things I want to get straight, I in no way shape or form tampered with this device. I am an AT&T employee and came across this while setting a customer up with his new S5. This is how it came brand new sealed out of the box. Also, I understand the photo is blurry. This is due to the fact that the screen did not stay up long. I snapped as fast as I could before I had to take it back because it was actually extremely buggy and kept freezing. Just felt the need to to share with the guys. Looks like some are being missed in the lock down lol.

Can you tell what software version its running?
That doesn't mean the bootloader is unlocked. It simply means that the devices scanning utility (SysScope it was called on the S4) detected a change to a file. In the case of the phone you had, it sounds like it was probably do to a faulty board or failing software in a bad unit. The S4s are known to show "custom" for absolutely no reason at all or because of something on the SD card. It usually reverted back to official after a couple of reboots. I'm not trying to be confrontational by asking this, but how can you be an AT&T employee and not know this? Like I said, this question is not a personal attack, but I am wondering if AT&T gives any training on how these devices work in real life and not just on the shelf. Either way, I promise you the bootloader is still locked on that device. The unlocked symbol and custom have nothing at all to do with the bootloader.

Edit: Just checked and it's not the developer options...and mine doesn't have the unlock icon anymore actually. I think scott14719 is probably right.

I'm right. If you want more information about it you can search the AT&T S4 forum for relevant threads. There really is a lot of information about it that might answer a lot of potential questions.

AT&T provides training that is optional for new devices, but there is an article released with relevant information to sell the phone. They do not train employees to check bootloaders, for root, for knox warranty, etc. None of my coworkers know what a bootloader is or what it means to be locked or unlocked. Edit: No training provided by AT&T mentions root, jailbreak, bootloaders, etc etc.
To be on topic, after I switched to ART, the Custom unlocked pad came up, when I switched back to Dalvik, the Custom unlocked padlock went away.
I am also an AT&T COR store employee and none of my coworkers know about that kinda stuff. Not a lick of training is given on that.

I'll try not to take offense to that....lol. No AT&T does no training for these things. And to be honest with you I am usually pretty knowledgeable when it comes to these things. I have been out of the Samsung scene for a while ( Due to me using my more developer friendly Nexus 5 or my new HTC One M8) so I am now unfamiliar with how these devices handle certain things. I have yet to do anything like change my runtime on the device do to the fact that it only made minor performance changes to my Nexus 5. If I would have I probably would have gotten the same boot screen and then eventually thought nothing of it. Just had a little moment of excitement while on the job lol.

Definitely no offence intended. I just wish AT&T, Bestbuys, etc... would do a better job of training the people that they expect to sell these devices. Most people don't know the everyday quirks of most devices unless they are given an oppertunity to learn about them.

But in the grand scheme of things 100 to thousands isn't that big of a loss. for an example with the s5 I can almost guarantee we are just a small subset of s5 owners the largest portion will never know what root is or have any idea what to do with it. The money they take from the larger portion will cover the expected returns from the 1% who are upset and or mad that they locked the BL.

Your right partially but grand scheme of things = all of their devices that are locked not just s5's. I am just saying that, they are always seeming to pull more customers in with new deals so gaining customers is important to them. So not losing customers should also be important in the same aspect no matter what the percentage is. If they don't care then shame on them.

No they won't. Who are they going to switch to? Tmobile? Tmobile will be locking down their bootloader as soon as they get the chance. Only reason why they haven't already is because they need as many customers as they can get. Same reason they kept downloader booster...even though they can't afford to keep it. Not to mention, the average user doesn't give a crap about bootloaders or download boosters.
I got the custom message after applying ART.

It definitely can! I did research on Google for each and every one of these that I wasn't sure about?. I recommend anyone do the same if they are not comfortable and remember one man's trash is another man's treasure, you have to know what it is otherwise you may get rid of a feature you really want that someone else could care less about.
If you go to the running apps in the application manager you can also turn off some services but I'm not sure how to get some of those back because they don't show up and the "turned off" list.
These aren't actually getting deleted its the same as freezing them if you were rooted and using rom tool manager or titanium.
Your phone acts and responds exactly the same as if they were deleted but they are still there and dormant.
Many of them like "ant" can be downloaded directly from the Play Store.

Some variants do s be sure to check your radio freq. All you have to do is plug in headphones and they work as your antenna. Then you launch the app. It was probably easy for samsung to just toss that on all phones and let the carriers sort it out later.
That's common practice, why if your on a budget it's best to buy the low of a high end company rather than high end if a low end company!
Often parts /software are the same with less features "disabled or not connected" . It's cheaper and higher profit with easier tech support to have less platforms that are truly different.

It's amazing the level of "Bloatware" you guys get on American carriers! Wow! Up in Canada it's not nearly as bad and has been getting leaner and leaner over past couple of years.
Heck, a couple carriers up here got practically nothing on it but I think it was a time thing and not getting the firmware n source code in time to customize before launch but nonetheless hasn't been *too* bad here on most phones and carriers for a while..
And more importantly we have practically been providing "unlocked bootloader" phones for ever.. That's a BIG plus as the likes of AT&T and Verizon are locking everything down.

It's easy to get back, it's in the playstore

This phone reminded me why I don't buy from carriers

Seriously, this is a nightmare. AT&T logo in the status bar, HEAPS of bloatware, persistent WiFi connected notification for some reason, and a nice tramp stamp.
If there is one thing I wish Samsung would do like HTC, it is selling straight to me untarnished from their store.
This one is going back.
I agree.
For me it gets worse when they lock the bootloader and make it nearly impossible to escape the bloat. I'll deal with it and disable most of the problems, but I don't understand it.
Honestly what is the point of the Wifi notification.

Oh, it get's even better. Samsung lets each carrier muck around with and make whatever weirdo changes they want.
On the AT&T variant they're toggle-able options, not so on the T-mobile. (I have both at the moment.)

Ugh, what a situation.
I got tired of my old LG G3, so I got an iPhone 6+, so far 10 days in it, I'm not missing my G3 at all, now I do like the S6 and I still have 4 days to decide if I keep the 6+ or change to the S6. With that said, AT&T includes so much crap on the S6, plus the locked bootloader and probably no root for a couple of months.... that I guess the iPhone will stay since 'it just works' and camera is just a tad less than the S6 and plus iOS 8.3 is just butter, it will probably have a jailbreak before the S6 is rooted.
And I already try to live with a locked Touchwiz when I had the S5 and I only lasted 1 month before changing to the M8 ( I really hate stock touchwiz).
Hey REDDIT buddy!!!!! I returned mine and bought a dev edition m9
I was kind of wanting the s6, but this thread makes me feel better about getting the at&t m9. I'm already unlocked running a custom rom and kernel.
Coming from the Nexus 6 and the M8 I sort of forgot how bad it is. So much unnecessary control. They get their damn claws into every dang crevice of this device. Makes me sick. Samsung is a global force and pretty much the face of android. They need to step up and tell carriers to back off. This is one thing I do wish they would steal from Apple.
And that god awful- persistent wifi notification. What in the entire f**k. Was that like an effort to make super sure customers know when their Wifi is on to avoid data charges? At least give people the option to stop it.
Oh, qq more. If you don't know what you are buying then don't buy it. Samsung phones on AT&T have been exactly like this for a long time, the S4 I have has all the same complaints you are referring to here. Don't act like it's new - it's expected.

I'll go ahead and buy it and complain if I like.
I'm not acting like anything, just sharing my thoughts.

I agree completely. I've used a Motorola device for too long.
It gets tiresome reading the same complaints about AT&T phones over and over. None of it is new at this point. And if you are returning your phone then go post in the forum for whatever phone you are going to have. This thread is beyond pointless. Once it's rooted existing xposed modules will take care of all the complaints you have, save carrier branding on the hardware.

Time window for turning in note 7

Just wondering how long I can keep the phone until I can turn it in and still receive a refund.

And don't talk to more than one person. You'll get multiple answers.
Just did t mobile Twitter help, so far no time limit
It's a safety recall, they'll have to take it when you return it, whenever that may be. Or they risk getting sued if you have documentation that they refused to take the phone back and then something happens.
Basically Samsung will make you want to get rid it by incrementally handicapping the functions of phone till it becomes a nice piece of paper weight!

If you are rooted all they could do is block imei
For me, $1000 phone is too expense for its imei to be blacklisted!

I guess time & carriers will tell? I am def planning on using mine until a phone I want is AVAILABLE to me, or Sammy puts out an ota that renders the Note 7 unusable.

Talk with samsung and they said as of now there is no dead line but one is in the works.
After this dead line you will not get a full refund or bill credit.
They have not taken any action to shut down our phones. But might in the furtrue.
Thats what i was told.
I ask because tmobile has no s7 edge in stock until like dec.
So my guess is samsung will go public in a few months with if there doing an update or deadline on the return.
All this sucks so much. And id love to keep the phone but i know there going to kill suppose for it
Any new word on a deadline?
Most of the TMobile stores around me have S7e in stock, and I was able to call the main TMobile phone number and they are sending me a silver S7e immediately.... so they do have them in stock. What they do NOT have is the Black colored S7e, which is what I really wanted.
I believe ghee s7 edge shortage depends on your region. I live in the Northeast and was told that silver s7edge will be in stock on the 21st and gold the 28th. They have a bunch of S7s in stock in all colors

I got lucky, I picked a barely used black s7 edge on Craigslist. Have the pay off papers for the eip so it's free and clear. Came with original box/charger. I had a silver one as loaner during first recall and I didn't like the color as much as I though I would. It's definitely better then gold though.
