I don't often use the camera in my Tilt, that is to say I never use it on purpose. If I need a camera on the spot, I'll use it. It's better than nothing sometimes.
I hadn't used it in a while and this weekend I needed to grab a photo of something and I noticed that the window on the battery cover was very strange looking, almost a fractal pattern of scratches or etches on it. Very light, but making it very foggy. Unfortunately I didn't notice until later, and my shots were horrible. After I noticed the fogginess, I took a few test shots with and without the cover, and without the cover the shots looked as 'good' as they ever do.
So I got out my Novus plastic polish that I use to polish up light scratches out of gadgets (similar to Applesauce and other products) and polished the window for a few minutes and all of the weird foggy layer went away. It took a few times, so it wasn't simply dirty, etc. Now I have a 'ring' of this weird looking fogginess around the edges of the lens but that doesn't affect the camera. So I took a few more test shots and the different between with the battery cover and without are back to negligible.
Just thought I'd mention it for folks who are taking off the battery cover to take photos or thinking about removing the 'lens' in the battery cover. If you have something to polish plastic and your lens looks foggy, give this a try.
I might try to take a picture of it sometime, but not sure I'll be able to really capture it well.
I used brasso brass polish for the same result, works well with a bit of elbow grease. As for the "halo" left around the edges I took a wooden toothpick and covered the end with a bit of paper towel and got rid of the "halo" by polishing in circles against the edge to remove that halo. Now my cover is like new!!!

yes, it looks like a "rainbow" on the surface almost like if you were to blow a bubble and catch it and look at it you can see a rainbow of colors in the bubble.
After I polished it it was clear, the before and after effects were enough for me to see.
must have been somthing on our fingers that got on the cover or something like that.

I'm beginning to think you're right, it was a suspicion of mine to start with as the only thing that could have really made a lot of contact with it is my fingers. And sure enough after a week or so, the window is starting to get funny looking again. I touch it all the time by accident, it's just in a perfect spot to get fingers on it.

Just in case people aren't aware, the lens cover is not plastic but really thin coated glass. The coating thats been applied to it clearly isn't heavy duty enough for the type of ordinary use the device gets as mine also developed this problem, even though I'm very careful with how I treat it. I too used brasso to polish the coating off and then cleaned it with my Klearscreen and microfibre cloth and all is now well. I thought the blurry photos I was getting were because I wasn't holding the device still enough but it turned out to be Chromatic Aberation (click the link for an excellent Wikipedia description).

So I got my new Z3C and was thinking: what if we can make flaps and audio port more waterproof?
Doing pressure sensor test I get reading around 1000 and it's increasing by about 30-40 when I press against screen with closed flaps. But it normalizes after 1-2 seconds and goes back to initial reading meaning tiny amount of air escapes. Does it mean my phone is not totally waterproof? Don't know.
Since this phone is just fresh-water proof (meaning no using in pool or sea) and I really want to use it worry-free in all kind of water that I dare to go in myself I really want to improve waterproofness.
I'm not worried about front and back since glass should be all.kind-of-things-proof. This leaves sd card and sim card covers, audio jack, mic holes and speakers.
So what I thought of was to "grease" flaps' rubber o-rings with rubber compatible oil/grease to make better contact with phone body or use some kind of silicone spread around rubber contact area before closing flaps to have semi-permanent seal and be still able to open and scrub extra stuff off without doing much damage.
For audio jack I thought to make some kind of plug - like pressy button but with a bit bigger "head" that has soft sticky rubber underneath so when pressed in it makes a seal with the edge of audio jack or even plug that is covered with silicone all the way.
Speakers and mic holes could be protected with bits of strong adhesive tape - it's easy to get sticky stuff off the glass and it'll be possible to hear some sound even with speakers covered. Not sure about mic holes because side plastic has matte finish but some strong adhesive should still stick?
So the question - has anyone tried something remotely related? Is it thinkable? Have I missed anything important? What materials (grease, silicone) should I use?
If anyone has done something similar? Probably... But no one ever posted about it on this forum. You can use the phone in the sea and swimming pool, as long as you rinse the phone afterwards. As for modifying the phone, I wouldn't do it. It might cause you to lose your warranty.
In terms of waterproofing the phone even more, I'd look at waterproof cases made for other phones with almost similar dimensions and see if you can do something about the case instead.

Plenty of stories of people going in the water, damaging their phone and fighting with sony about warranty.
It's hardly modifying, adhesive sticker on glass is easily removed and thin film of silicone should be also easily removable.

That's the option. But I haven't seen any slim waterproof case that could be comfortably used all the time.
Anyway, curiosity is strong and I'll most likely try different options.
PS. can someone test pressure sensor - is reading staying high when screen is pressed or it fades back to normal with all covers closed?
I've just used mine in pool all weekends since I bought it without any issue and even without afraid of doing that! The same with my wife's Z1!
And I'm contantly opening/closing its usb port due my xposed modules development (debugging purposes)! Maybe some unlucky day I will screw it... who knows!
Ofc we always need to be sure all ports are properly closed before going to have fun!

Sorry, I forgot about the pressure sensor part, it's normal that the numbers go back to normal after you lifted your finger, it works like that for everyone.
If my mind serves me right, I've seen Sony ads with the Z3C being thrown in a pool or something similar, so a pool really shouldn't be a problem. And yes of course people will have to fight for their cause at Sony, they won't just put any phone under warranty, else people would exploit that.

I probably expressed myself bit vaguely. Thing is that pressure reading on my phone returns back to normal WHILE HOLDING screen under pressure. Initially pressing screen creates greater pressure inside the phone, reading rises but air escapes quite quickly (1-2seconds) and pressure reading normalises. After releasing finger screen pressure sensor shows lower readings for a second until extra air seeps inside to equalise pressure again.
Hope it's clear enough.
Also, does it mean that I got less waterproof phone that it should be?

I've used mine under water as well. OP if you're really worried about it you can send it off to liquipel and have them make the phone even more waterproof

I've had my nexus 6 for a week, totally loving it. But I recently noticed a mark, or stain on the back cover. I tried cleaning it away with some alcohol but it didn't fade. From the position of the mark I've figured out it's the jeans! I'll be washing those. However I don't know how to remove the stain, I heard chloride solutions might do the trick, but I'm afraid that'll bleach the cover. Fyi, I have the midnight blue version.
Does anyone have any advice? :s
I cannot see how jeans colour could run enough to stain a phone yet be persistent enough to withstand alcohol :/

Well now, I assure you it's happended :s, sadly. The stain isn't too noticedable though thanks to the already blue color of my cover, but the stain is darker. When most noticable is when holding the phone in an angle so the light reflects on it.

Aha, Well I don't know if it's a jeans stain, but from the evidence, that's my conclusion. The phone is abit big for my pocket, so a bit of it sticks out. The stain looks like a line, which fits perfect to the edge of my pocket.
Hmm. That could even be a "polish" where its rubbed it and buffed it up a bit.

If it's rubbed away from friction/rubbing, you might be stuck with it. If you're really worried about it, I believe replacement backs are cheap on eBay. However, for now, you can probably invest in a Slickwraps or dbrand skin and hope that the vinyl can withstand the the issue causing the markings on your phone.

Is anyone else's xz1 compact body bent or not straight?
I have had mind a couple of weeks and been super careful with it, so I don't think I bent it or something. I didn't notice until today when I set my phone down on a flat table as I was finicking with it when I noticed it rocked back and forth and wasn't perfectly flat to the table. It is particularly noticeable in the front side (I think part of this is due to the edges around the screen not being completely flush or evenly flat. The back does it much less, but I think that may because of the curved back on the back. After looking down the back side of the phone I realized it was clearly not straight and could see It curve.
Anyone with similar issues? Thanks!
The border around the camera lens is protuding a tiny bit from the back of the phone, to protect the lens from scratches.
The top and bottom edges of the phone are protruding to protect the screen from being scratched when placed face down.
Though it does not rock for me.

Mine doesn't rock when on its back, and I have a screen protector on the front which is slightly taller than the top and bottom metal caps, so it is also stable.
When I bought my phone in store, per procedure they had me inspect the phone for obvious damage or defects.
The first unit I got unfortunately had assembly issues with the top and bottom metal caps, there was a noticeable gap on both ends and they protruded unevenly. One end protruded to the front, and the other to the back.
At first they tried to play it off as non-issue, citing manufacturing tolerance, and refused to let me exchange a new one, but I insisted and eventually they agreed to give me another unit, which is the one I'm currently using.
Does your unit have similar unevenness with the metal caps? Maybe that's the cause of the instability. I do not perceive any curves on the body of my phone.

I didn't think about the camera, good point, that may be some of the issue when it's on its back. The rocking when it's on its back is mild, so it may be the camera lens ring. However, I can look down the phone close with my naked eye and notice the bend pretty easily.
I do realize the front 'metal caps' protrude a little to protect the screen, but as mhaha says below, those edges are not necessarily uneven. The top metal cap sticks out further, in general, than the bottom. Individually, if I run my finger down the cap edges on the face of the phone I think I can feel where they get closer/further from the screen in places (it is very slight, so maybe that one is more in my head). I also didn't notice the uneven gap edge until you said that, I can't really physically feel that one so I think it's a little less of an issue. But, yes, on the left side of my screen it's super snug up against the side bezel and on the right I can see a very slight gap, in comparison.
My phone rocks bad on its face/front , diagonally from the cameras corner to the corner opposite.
I have actually requested my return (I ordered mine online) and will very likely be sending it back. I am not sure ill get a replacement either, for now just the return.

Yeah, my top metal cap isn't as in line as the bottom, now that I see that. Thanks very much! That would definitely contribute to a wobble on a flat surface.
But, there are still all the other issues I've noted, so I'm quite confident it's a number of issues contributing to it all.

The photo isn't quite a good descriptor of the problem though.
The photo suggests that it's just the way the metal end-caps are installed is what's causing the rocking.
If you run the link through a translator, the author states that the metal caps are misaligned because the plastic/glass-fiber body itself is warped.
So you may want to look at getting the phone replaced.
I dropped my phone on the road 2nd day of use. The metal edge got scratched, but the phone survived. The only other issue I noticed was twisted body. Looking from the edge, the twisted edge was easy to notice, and surface wobble was also there. I held the edges of the phone and put some pressure in opposite direction (trying to twist it back), and now my phone seems straight/aligned).
Please don't try this at home and come complain to me if something goes wrong. Since I dropped my phone, I couldn't just return it and get it replaced. Also not sure if the drop twisted it, or just pressure in my jeans pocket. Also not sure if the twist will come back. For now, the phone is fine.
I just bought XZ1 (not XZ1C) in UK, and having similar issue.
I'm not sure if the "cap" in misplaced or the whole body is twisted, but when I put the device face down, it rocks

Thanks for the further insight, I'm grateful! I will be returning the phone. I'm undecided on whether or not I would like to purchase another after. I kinda wanted to see how the future quality/reviews are more. Based on some with similar issues, I'm not sure ill be getting another, but I'll see I guess. Thanks again!

Thanks very much for your input! I appreciate it. The body twist and warp (these are better way to describe it, thanks, as the phone isn't so much curved/bent as it, or the single piece back/body specifically, is warped) is quite noticeable with the one I have too (looking at the edge like you said). However, I don't think I've dropped the phone (too hard at least and no visible scrathes, scrapes, etc.) I also keep a phone in a coat pocket, bag, or just take it out and set it down when I'm not out and about, so I don't think I would have caused the warp myself. Hi there. A week ago I bought Xiaomi Mi A2. Now I noticed my screen is scratched! In center of screen I can see all the moves my fingers do (look at the photo). It doesnt come off, no matter what cloth I rub it. Isnt A2 supposed to have GG5?

EDIT: After few minutes I dont thing its scratched. By the looks and feels on polished screen it looks like some kind of ,,glue" overfilled frome side of the screen and was wiped to the right. I never used any protector except the original sticker but I know the digitizer and glass is somehow glued together so some excess of this maybe. Will try to put protector on it, if it is still visible then RMA

in original posters case the pictures just look like finger smudges to me in person i bet its different but if that does move about and shows up when screen is on it may be fault panel so return for replacement.
faults do happen the % is low but they still happen no one or company can stop this they do test units before shipping

GG3 was more scratch resistant than the GG5 so A2 is more likely to use GG5. As for the OP, it's either glue as you said which you could remove with some rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work, then it could probably be the Oleophobic coating which could be a manufacturing error or you had some type of chemical on your hands that messed it up.

Since I dont work or use any chemicals in my life other than basic detergent for dishes I doubt that. Anyway I tried cleaning it off with isopropyl alcohol and sticker-glue remover with no luck. The stains are permanent, invisible when screen on. I tried rubbing it with credit card slightly and I can clearly feel that it is on the surface of glass. If I completely polish the screen with glasses cloth, the stains disappear and reappear when I slide my fingers over the area and ,,grease" it a little.
Contacted the seller, returning phone and getting my money back since I am positive it is a manufacturing problem.

Well you're probably right. I had no idea something like this exists. Put that in Google and found many pictures of worn off coating even on Samsungs. But after a week? What a shame
BTW other than what Iwrote, there easnt any chemical on the screen
