How to get the 100GB of OneDrive? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

So I was reading this article on Yahoo called "Carriers are removing some key Galaxy S6 features – everything you need to know" for the S6. It states AT&T is disabling the 100GB of OneDrive! That is something I definitely want. How can I get this if I want to use AT&T without buying an unlocked phone, I have to buy a phone from a carrier for work.?
Could you just go in the bootloader, flash it and load the default android and still get the 100GB of OneDrive? Does anyone know?

I have heard the only way to get it to work is to go into Best Buy and find a working floor model from Sprint or T-mobile and sign into OneDrive on that device. The 100 GB will be added to your account. Then make sure you sign out of the device and you are good to go.
From what I understand the 100 GB is only a 2 year offer so be aware you may be charged after 2 years to keep the extra space.

That's interested on the 2 year. I talked to AT&T and they said they give you 50GB of cloud storage...I wonder if they charge for it too?

There was an update to OneDrive available for me this morning on the Play Store. Updated, and rebooted my phone. Had a notification for 100GB for 2 year offer. Confirmed I had camera backup turned on, and now have 100GB+ storage.

WOOOOOOT, I can confirm that all I did was log off from onedrive and login again after I had applied the update earlier in the day (I didn't check for the 100GB offer). However once I logged back in under settings there is now an option called apply 100GB offer from samsung and now I have 130GB of OneDrive.
Thanks for the headsup.

[Q] How to get tablet plan on AT&T?

Hey all, I had read here that AT&T had the Note marked as a Tablet, which means it would only cost $25/month for 2 gigs! But now somebody got the idea to force it into AT&T's system so now it's recognized as a phone and it costs $49 + $25 = $74 to use....
so...
Does anyone have any ideas of how to use it as a tablet?
Thanks,
GT
you mean like take 2 pills every 12 hours?

What happens if you buy a tablet data plan then switch the sim card into the Note? Are they also sweeping tablet plans to look for phones? It seems the system doesn't automatically sweep all accounts/plans, as when The Issue was still in effect, people on the tiered plans weren't being bugged.
A lot of work went into educating AT&T that the Note is a smartphone, now you want it as a tablet (no voice functions?).
Might as well just get a real tablet and call it a day...
Hey Eric,
I'm glad that your hard work has enabled you to pay more. I'm just not as stoked. Especially when it's SUPER EASY to just toss on sipdroid and google voice and you're set. Boom, $25/month.
Thanks,
GT
maxh - How would I buy the plan? You need an IMEI# to do so...

that makes sense if you don't mind a dropped call here and there or just bad connection due to VoIP.

Borrow a tablet? Go in and tell them you have a tablet at home, or are getting one for Christmas and want to go ahead and get setup with a plan and sim card so Christmas morning you can open your present and immediately pop it in? If they say they need an IMEI number tell them to use the number off of one of the floor models in the store, like they were initially doing for people with the problem in order to add a data plan to the Note.
I'm just speculating, I don't know if you can sim swap without a computer sweep booting you off, so don't blame me if it doesn't work.
I feel people should be able to buy service and use it however they want, on whatever device they want. If you buy 4GB data and want to use it on a phone without voice service, what business is it of theirs? Personally, I do want voice and sms with my data, but I can totally see how some would want data only on the Note, or even a regular sized smartphone. If they're not a heavy caller and VOIP fills their needs, it would be a great money saver.
I am LOLing so hard at this thread.
I don't see why AT&T would have any aversion to providing a tablet plan for the note if you were to ask. Any pointing of fingers over the possibility that you could not do this before trying is pointless.
I lol'ed at this:
"toss on sipdroid...and you're set"
If only it were that simple.
Can you activate any Android smartphone as a tablet only?
There's your answer.
I'm hoping we actually get a choice when Ma Bell officially launches the Note. it would be nice to either have a voice and data plan or just a data plan on this thing.

[Q] How To Get 50 GB Free Dropbox?

my free dropbox ran out that i got when i purchased my S3 and i would like to get another 50 free. when i setup the phone the first time i made the mistake of putting in the old email address instead of a new one and now i can't find the promotion again. i looked in the galaxy gifts area but now it's gone. any way to reset that? i uninstalled the update to galaxy apps and cleared the cache but it's still gone. i also signed out of my old dropbox account on the phone but still can't find the promotion. really don't want to factory reset after setting this thing up for 3 days.
My ran out also. I used my same account and got my 50gb for another two years. You should be able to get it back

What I don't like about google drive is it is not integrated into many if the apps like drop box is.
NOTE 4
I had the same issue and im not showing a promotion. I figured it would be official on the 17th. I dont know though. no promotion for me as of yet.
I remember reading that you would get the dropbox promo after signing in to the Samsung Apps or Hub.. (something like that). Looked like there were quite a few freebees in there.. worthless or not, the dropbox is a good deal.

Little late to the party, just picked one of these up

Called a bunch of stores within an hour of me before I found one that still had a brand new one in stock. Manufactured in April 2016 so hopefully no bootloop issues (fingers crossed). For the price... impossible to beat value wise. $4/mo more than one of the "mid level" offerings like the Galaxy J7 and annihilates those in all categories. Have a Diztronic TPU case and a PNY 128GB card arriving tomorrow for it, so far its been great. Was going to see about leaving it unrooted with all the bloat disabled/uninstalled but after having a rooted G2 for over 2 years and no ads... can't deal with the spam so I'll unlock/root it and go from there.
Also very cool to see so much support out there still for this thing. Hoping it lasts me as long as my G2 did. I did have a G3 briefly on VZW before I switched to T-Mo and that one was great too. Kind worried with the direction the G5 is going but anyway... Very happy.
Also the store that had this new G4 still had a new G3 as well... go figure. If they had a current price vs $400 not updated since 2015... I dunno lol. I paid $349 for this G4 which is a damn steal for what you get. I'll pass on the $700-$800 "flagships" because I don't need to render video for Pixar while playing Pokemon Go and telling someone they are wrong on facebook...

Glad you got one. It's a great phone. Next time, stop by swappa.com/buy/lg-g4-tmobile. You can get a like new device for a greatly cheaper price. And if you have the replacement insurance through T-Mo like I do, 3rd party sold phones like these are covered 100%. Been doing this for the past 3 years now.
Will def check that site out thanks. But... After having used phones I'll do the new thing when I can. I have half a mind to pick that new G3 up as a spare or a gift or something.
But this is easily the best phone I have had except for maybe my Vzw G2 before someone walked off with it... No idea but that phone FLEW...
Got the Tpu case in just now (Diztronic like always) and the PNY card. Time to root and load up the music etc... Also ordered a Qi charging sticker for charging. Really really really hoping this thing stays solid and does not suffer from bootloops...
Edit... Rofl they do indeed want $400 for that G3... I paid $349 for this G4...
Great phone
Love this phone, got it two months ago for $250 brand new after haggling with customer care. Came from the Samsung S5 and it's quite a step up, I'm rooted using latest version of Turbo's Enterprise rom and it's night and day from stock.
Congrats on the purchase.
Yeah I just rooted tonight without incident. Still deciding if I want to go with a rom or not. Phone is fast as hell as is, I've got ads blocked, bloat disabled/uninstalled and I get 7GB a month of tethering for free from T-Mo already... Mainly rooted to get rid of the ads.

This is completely false. I've sim unlocked easily while bootloader unlocked and rooted. Just be stock based, not cm, and you'll be fine. I used the tmo sim unlock app right after I met the requirements and sim unlocked easily. I restored to cm immediately afterwards.
I recommend making a backup and flashing micro's stock zip build and trying the sim unlock app. If you're still having issues, check if you meet tmo's sim unlock requirements. (device paid off, device on the account long enough, enough payments have been made if prepaid.)

What exactly are you flashing? Are you doing it in TWRP, or stock recovery? People really need to be more specific when they're opening these threads, I see one question that they ask and then I have to reply with multiple questions just to know what they're on about.
Does your update zip contain the CSC? If so, I know that flashing firmware through Odin, there are two CSC files, one called CSC and one called CSC home, or something to that effect, one wipes your phone, the other doesn't.
That's about all I can think of, you really need to give more details.

If it's an update zip as in a manually installed ota it does have an csc..
Also op is likely an att or Sprint user so wiping when manually flashing is a fact of life.

Ah okay, seems like an awful pain for anyone that has that device, I assume it's a firmware that's branded by them as well so waiting for official OTAs would take even longer.

Not really. In the states sometimes non carrier branded software takes longer, some times it comes first. It just depends.
The user is likely loading leaked OTA updates from att which means it's not an official release. Just hopping the line a little.

Oh, that's a surprise actually, here in the UK the carrier branded can sometimes take months longer, but how do the carriers release new versions even before Samsung pushes them? Do the carriers over there build there own firmware themselves rather than just taking what Samsung releases and adding all their crap to it?

Samsung builds all of the software builds and carriers test them when they get them but carriers take priority I am assuming because users on carrier plans using carrier branded phones fall in the 90 percentile of cell phone subscribers.
Now I am just making that number up but our market only recently started being a little more diverse when it comes to unlocked options.
It's the difference in paying 800 bucks up front and paying 200 to subsidize and stay on a contract you were probably keeping anyways.

Ah right, well that's interesting. And yeah mobile contracts are the main method of acquiring devices here too, but I chose not to upgrade my plan this time and went on SIM only contract with 20gb data, then I used PayPal credit to buy the note 9 from Switzerland with no VAT, which works out significantly cheaper than the £70 + per month to get the phone on contract with any service provider here, that's without paying several hundred pounds up front for the device.

In my almost five years on T-Mobile this is the second time I've done a phone through them. Usually I sell my last and buy the new one out right.
This year they offered my half off in payments over 24 months. So I went for it. I certainly don't like the feeling of a contract but ultimately it works out better price wise but I usually push people to pay as you go alternatives and ysed phones from swappa if they aren't addicted to the "New Big Thing" like me.
I did just read an article from last year that said about 12% of the mobile phones in the US are carrier unlocked.
Now it's making more sense though since we moved away from subsidized and now we lease for the full price like you all over the pond. I think I will try very hard to keep this one for two years though. The prices are just too high. That or grabbing last years model pixel since at this point battery and camera are my big must haves. Ya know if Samsung keeps climbing in price.

Yeah I've always had phones from the carriers over here, it's always been the best and cheapest option, maybe not cheapest in total, but cheapest on a month by month basis.
But since I discovered PayPal offer credit now, being able to buy anything off eBay and pay in monthly instalments, just worked out much cheaper for me,
I saved 180 on the retail price here, and although I will end up paying some interest, over the time I've paid it off, it is still miles better than £70 a month, and I got 4 months interest free as well which will help in paying a big chunk of it before interest kicks in.
And yeah phones are getting way more expensive these days, they're beginning to sky rocket, the note 9 is the most expensive thing I've ever bought in my life haha. I certainly won't be doing it again for at least a few years, with the hardware we've got it will be at least a couple years before it starts to really fall behind, although saying that, smartphone technology is coming along faster than ever.
Think what we have now, it was only 20 years ago that the Nokia 5110 was the top end of the phone market haha. Now we're looking at foldable screens and such in the near future.

Yeah I've been quiet good for a long time now and stuck with more mid range phones, but on seeing the note 9 I just needed it, for reasons haha. It didn't help seeing it being advertised on TV every 5 minutes, so if you asked me, it's Samsung's fault.
And yeah, good chat, and I think we partially answered his question at least haha.

That's the first explanation that makes sense. I haven't heard that before. I'm on AT&T. Guess I have to live with it. Not a huge deal as I back everything up but it's a bit of a hassle changing all the setting back.
I use https://samsung.firmware.science for any new firmware that comes out.

Yes this phone has a hell of a lot of settings compared to any I've had before. Out of curiosity, have you never tried Google's device settings backup option? I never have, and I've always wondered if it did a good job of it.

Yeah go to accounts, then backup and restore, then press Google account and you'll get this screen, I've never tried it, but as you've no choice but to wipe when updating, there's no harm you giving it a go, if you do, I wouldn't mind knowing the outcome, it may only backup certain settings, but if it does all of them, that would be great.

I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Got it all backed up. Might be a bit before October update shows up but I'll come back and update you

Updated October security patch. Google didn't restore anything. Unless I'm doing something wrong. Not too sure

touchscreen issues

Hey
Is anyone having issues with say the top 1/4 of the top of the screen
Occasionally and I cannot reproduce it on command. The top 1/4 of my screen stops responding to touch. I have to turn the screen off and then back on and then it will work fine.
Software or hardware issue?
Anyone else notice this?
Nope. I would try a factory reset at this point and see if it still persists. I think you were also having issues with deep sleep right? If that hasn't been resolved, I'd do a fresh start at this point, especially if you have a possible HW issue on your hands.

I would contact support ASAP and get a RMA sent out to you before they start shipping out refurbished devices.

Well it would be thru the carrier. As I got it via my carrier. So I'll be visiting them tomorrow for an exchange

Good luck! I hope you get a defect-free device!
So this is frustrating
Best buy refuses to exchange. I have to send back and be out of a device for 5-15 business days.
Google support is the same
Or I bring to a repair facility. Which is BS. The device is less then 30 days old
So far no support that is actually acceptable.

Google isn't the same... I don't know where you got that - at least, if you purchase it from the Google store. I've exchanged the original pixel 6 times (they had a lot of issues with microphone) and the pixel 3 xl a couple times. Google has always done an advanced replacement so I'm never without a phone. The only thing they require is a hold on a credit card until the return is cleared.
That's one reason I like Google so much and could never go with something like oneplus or htc. That and Google could care less if you root your phone - warranty is still intact.

Since i got it from a retailer (and not the google store), the only option presented to my by google was:
1. send in for repair/replacement, no device sent to me first (advanced replacement)
2. bring to authorized repair center
Bestbuy warranty was the same, except no authorized repair was provided, only to send in the device and wait for it to come back to.
Neither provided me with advanced replacement options, even when asking or offering to place a credit card hold/deposit.

Unfortunately this is the case if you don't buy direct from Google. I experienced this the hard way last year with my pixel 3XL... I had a Pixel 1 and 2 XL from Google and loved the advanced exchange program. But when I bought my 3XL from a vendor (because Google were out of stock) it becomes a little annoying being without a phone when you have a warranty issue... Just chalk it up as a lesson to be learned and next year get it from Google directly.
Makes me worries now as I purchased one today via best buy, unlocked, non carrier version.
@OP, was yours also purchased at best buy?

So is it a carrier branded version? And not the unlocked variant?
Side note : if you have a uBreakiFix store, bring it in, online is saying it's a same day repair

It's unlocked.
Went to bestbuy to do the upgrade instead of the carrier store.
I have a ubreakifix nearby but that's not the point. I shouldn't have to do a repair on a 30 day device. Should be a swap out. Not a repair.

If you did the upgrade, then you must have gotten one of Carrier version (Verizon, att, etc)
You said you went to BB to do the upgrade instead of going to the carrier store, which service is it?
BB also sells the pure unlocked version, Im not sure if carrier branded upgrade offers the pure unlocked version as it's 'upgrade'
Ahh I understand now. Yeah lesson to be learned for next year! Sorry that sucks

Yes they do. No devices are allowed to be locked in Canada. Against the law now.
Its frustrating. Regardless. It's a manufacturer device and I'm stuck with either being out of a device for days. Or repairing it
