How can I avoid update to move back app to the phone memory? - Moto G 2014 LTE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I moved some of my apps from the main memory to the SD card. Everything worked fine but as soon as I update them they get back to the phone memory.
Is it possible to avoid that and have the apps updated on the SD card instead?

I'm experiencing the same issue on stock 5.0.2. Hoping that CM 5.1 based ROMs will sort it out. KitKat had a menu with ability to select where should they go if my memory serves me well.....

SD card not recognized after Froyo update

What's up guys. Anyone else have an issue with their Nexus not recognizing your SD card after the Froyo update? I have a 16 GB class 2 Sandisk. The phone recognizes the phone in recovery without any issue. I tried formatting the card and also reflashing Froyo, but I still get nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!
Same issue here. Stock card that came with the N1, have never had an issue...now it keeps telling me it's safe to remove, and when I go into SD settings and mount, it just goes back to that notification over and over. Probably about to restore to cyan 5.0.6 for now...
I took my card out. Using my SD card reader, backed up files, formatted, SD card in phone, connect to computer. And it worked. Then loaded my files back on. Btw I also have a 16gb card

Yeah...try just popping the card out the phone and then reinsert.
It seems like i'm still having this issue. I decided to stick with CM 5.8 until they officially released 2.2. It doesn't matter if I install the official update or a rom based on 2.2, my phone still refuses to recognize my card. I've searched all over the net and i've yet to run into anyone else with this issue. It sees the card fine in recovery and when using CM 5.8. I've wiped the phone, formatted the card and i'm not sure what else to try.
Same problem here, also a 16Gb SDCard
works 100% in 2.1, but refuses to work with Froyo.
Any workarounds, or is this a bug in the current Froyo builds?
Suggestion is to copy the contents of your to your computer, then format, and try again

I think I have this too - with a workaround
hi,
On my Nexus one I am running Froyo OTA.
I noticed that when I turn on my phone the SD card is not fully recognized. All the icons of my apps appear blank for all SD moved apps. I tried switching cards and reformatting and everything but it always happens.
I found one workaround which usually works:
1. When turned on and apps not recognized, run ASTRO files manager
2. Even though card is not fully recognized you can access all files on the SD from ASTRO. Now run the SD Card Tool from the menu.
3. After the scan is finished showing usage of directories on SD, I close the ASTRO which twice hitting the back key and when I return to the home screen all apps are re-enabled and icons are updated. From here on everything works.
Hope this is the same issue you are having and this helps you to solve it.
Perhaps Gingerbread will make this obsolete

What you're describing is a function of Froyo's Apps2SD together with either custom launcher (LauncherPro, ADW, and such), or long loading time after reset. It's a known and much discussed issue, help files for both custom launchers suggest force-closing the launcher a couple of minutes after reset.
It doesn't have anything to do with SD card not being recognized.
There is no such thing as "partially recognized" SD card, it's either working or it doesn't, and when it doesn't - no files can be seen on it at all.

[Q] Applications to SD card

ok. i searched and i know that there a lot of places to find out how to do it, but I am a bit confused.
I somehow never got onto the apps2sd bandwagon cos i didnt know how to divide my SD card (32GB)..what's the ideal recommended proportions for ext3 and FAT32?
also, i'm on CM at the moment, and it has an option to select where to install apps to and also you can move apps to the SD card. is this the same as apps2sd or is it less efficient?
all this time wht i have been doin is manually selecting where to install the apps through the ROM options, and my SD card is FAT32.
can anyone help me?
i'm also thinkin about upgrading to gingerbread if and when it comes.. so would the ext3 partition work with it?
Current there are 2 ways to implement App2SD, one is Froyo version, which puts applications on SD card Fat32 partition, another one is Ext version, which requires an ext partition on your SD card to store applications.
If you're using official CM release, I think it has no support to App2Ext by default.
I noticed that the option you mentioned does not always work, I put it on "Internal" but sometimes new applications still are installed to SD card. The option is not necessary to enable App2SD feature. You can always goto application management and manually move applications between internel memory and SD card.
i actually find it happening the other way for me..when i specify to install on the SD card, it still installs on the internal...and im constantly running out of space..and its hard to decide what apps to move to the SD card, and some come up with alerts of how system updates wont happen and therefore it cant move it to the SD card..
the way I do it is, tick "Allow moving any application"
then goto application management, sort by size
look from top of list, move big size, not frequently used, non auto-boot, non-widget applications to SD card.
yeah..i think i also should do that...flashing CM nightly 242 atm...i jus hope gingerbread comes out soon..tho im sure i will end up using it fr a bit and then goin back to CM until they put out a gingerbread based ROM

jpy has bug that apps installed on sd card, shortcut dissapear after boot.

by dissappear i mean dont stay on the screen you put the shortcut on.. the app is still there but the shortcut dissapears.
any of the newer 2.2.1 builds fixed this issue..
thanks in adavance.
Are these "disappearing" apps installed to the external sd card by any chance ??
Same happens to my phone, but only for apps installed on the external SD. My workaround is to move all apps to phone SD and keep all media (photo's ringtones and the likes) on the external sd card.
Also curious if this is a bug or a feature

i dont think they are on external sd just sd.. when you goto manage apps in settings they show up on sd card.
but i wondered if the bug was fixed in a newer 2.2.1 build.. otherwise i will not bother upgrading.
i already know about the workaround but the 3 angry birds are really too big to install to phone memory

[Q] Swap Internal With External Memory On Last JB 4.3

any help here ? same question
I'd like to know this too
Hey,
I've looked through the forums but don't seem to find a definite answer. I have a rooted (with towelroot) Xperia V, with latest official nordic update.
So as we know, the big problem with Xperia V is that no matter how big external SD card you have, you cannot install APK's on it, making you run out of space real quick. The 2GB internal extended memory shows as "SD Card" to most software and the installers. Also, many apps don't let you explicitly define the location for file saves, so the 2GB will be used for caching etc on many occasions. Moving software to "SD card" in app settings as you would normally do on Android actually just moves between the internal extended memory and phone memory, but not the actual SD card.
I want to install my APK's on the SD card, and only keep minimum stuff on the internal 2GB. How do I do this? Can I make the phone not use the 2GB and instead use the 32 gig SD card I have in my phone? Can I somehow move the already installed apps to the actual SD card as well, or do I have to reinstall them?

[Q] Bank swapping SD cards

I have been messing about with my Exhibit 4G, updating it from the stock Gingerbread ROM to Cyanogen Unofficial 11 (KK 4.4). What can I say, it is like a new phone! So a big thanks to all those who write the mods and especially those who write clear and detailed instructions on how to do it!
My remaining frustration is SD storage. Do the apps that swap internal SD and external SD work with this configuration and, if so, which one should I install? Like a lot of people, I have a nearly empty external SD with LOTS of storage and a nearly full internal card and I have run out of apps that I can transfer to the external card.
On second thought
Disregard the previous message as I don't think SD card storage is the issue. I took a harder look into CM 11 and it seems my Phone storage is the one maxed out, not the internal SD. I suspect that pretty much ends the discussion as I don't think there is a way to expand that, correct? I have moved all apps that allow me to move them to the SD so unless there is a way to force the remainder to move, I think I am stuck.
The other option is to nuke CM 11 and replace it with SlimKat and a stripped down version of the Google KK apss. Does anybody know how much phone memory that saves?
