Wouldn't it be awesome to exchange 1 of the 2 sd slots for an combined sd/sim slot? - Saygus V²

hi,
i think i read about someting like this at the presentation of the new huawei p8.
a slot for sd OR sim and i think this would be awesome for the saygus because of the 2 sd slots, so you can have space and multicarrier.
am i the only one thinkig of this?

is that true that recent Nokia phones use MMC cards ..

and not SD ??? if that is true I am curious why ??

monika
Yep all new phones from Nokia especially ones with Symbian OS have a standard 32MB MMC card such as the new N-Gage and the 6600.

and why is that pls ??? I mean, why they use MMC and not SD format that is believed to be newer one ...
monika
1: because nokia are crap
2: because they are loosing their market as sony and samsung are taking over
3: because they have stupid designed phones
4: because mmc is smaller by bout 1mm
5: i dunno really but these are my answers
oh and..
6: because nokia will never have a symbian phone that doesnt crash every hour lol
heheh, thank you very much ...
for the answer, rest seems to be self-explanatory
regards, monika
most likely because they dont need the features that SD ofer over a mmc
and i'm not speaking about size or IO support but about
the secure digital part which is crypting support
messed a bit around with a nokia 3300 it also have a mmc card and cant use sd
also the mmc card have to be put in under the batt so you have to pretty much disasm the phone to change mmc card
most likely mmc cards cost a bit less to produce then sd cards or used to and thats the reason why nokia dont use them apart from the no need for cryptographic
more about sd and mmc

appreciate that

MMC is faster than SD cards, the read/ write speed differs.
Holy hell... way to bring up an old topic. How did you come across this?

Is my stock SD card the problem?

I've verified that my swapfile is in use. It is set to 32mb right now. I'm using the stock card. When I use alot of apps I'm still seeing the htc screen sometimes. I just ordered a ultimate class 6 133x 20mb/s card. Will this help the problem? And what are your thoughts on pushing it to slightly higher than 32mb? Even with a blazing fast sd card??

Yes, your stock SD card will be a bottleneck in using swapper and Apps2SD for that matter. But, you really should partition it w/ 3 partitions (FAT32, ext2/3, linux-swap, in that order). The linux-swap partition works worlds better than the swapper. 32MB is optimal, any higher will not speed it up, more likely it will make it slower. Set up those 3 partitions, and flash the new JACHero2.7.3 and you'll amazed at the difference. There's a new swap-type thing going on w/ compcache, but that hasn't been incorporated into the builds yet, so just stick with linux-swap for now.
If you wanna know how to set up the 3 partitions, follow the instructions from the JACHero2.7.3 thread in the development thread. Good luck
You sure its compatible with the g1? 20mb/s? Wow. You won't have anything to worry about if its that fast....Never heard of a micro sdhc card that quick lol. Mind shooting a link on your OP? Thanks

my AData 8GB class 10 have it and work fast and smooth

SD UHS-1

Hi!!
I'm new in android. I need to know if this type of micro SD can be used in my Samsung Galaxy Ace.
I don't need more than 8gb or perhaps 16gb, but Sandisk SD XC1 or SC HC1...that works with UHS-1 technology have read/write speeds that look awesome...
There are some models of Sandisk, that works at differents speeds, but all of them (SD XC1) works really faster...
That type of SD with UHS-1 technology....works on our Galaxy Ace? or we have hardware limitation to use that kind of technology?
Sorry if my english is bad...and thank you for your answers.
Martin
i use sandisk 16gb class 4 no problem its super fast.

Ok, if i go for one tipical SD i will get one class 10...
But this Sandisk UHS-1 mode XC-1 are new technology that works better and faster than a class 10...
The only problem could be with our Ace hardware that cannot work with this new technology.....thats what i don't now....and thats why i'm asking for help with this topic...
Perhaps someone has tryed these new type of SD, and can help me to decide what to buy...
Sorry again for my poor english....

Won't work! Sorry!
The ace is REALLY old now, so it is highly unlikely it will work.
Class 4 cards work just as well as class 10. We don't really have the hardware to take advantage of cards with classes higher than 6.

SDHC or SDXC up to 256GB technically (although I think the largest is 200GB at the mo)
I have a Sandisk 128GB ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Android-MicroSDXC-Frustration-Packaging/dp/B013UDL5HU ) and works fine...loads of room!!!
P.S. And welcome to XDA!
Colthekid
Thanks for answering so quickly. X
No problem, you'll usually find someone on here that knows the answers to your questions, but always use the forum search first to avoid duplicating topics (not criticising you!)
Any sd card class 10 will work great

When my P9 arrives I have 200GB Sandisk I want to try, I'll report back how it goes!
Can confirm that 200gb class 10 card works great!
