Chromecast red light (Think from new firmware) - Google Chromecast

My chromecast had a red light a week ago. I held the button to factory reset, it didn't reset instead it flashed white or pink (don't remember) and it showed the backdrop and worked fine. The chromecast is plugged into the USB port on the TV (WISELINK PORT, worked fine for a few months). Turned off TV, so that turned off the chromecast. Turned it back on the chromecast light is red, just noticed 2 days ago. Switched to chromecast as source and the TV got a signal but it was a black screen. Tried to FDR, didn't work so I just unplugged power and replugged it back in. Chromecast starts up with an exclaimation mark telling me to goto chromecast.com/startup-issues. Rebooted again, it said at the bottom chromecast with 3 dots (is that some old bootloader thing?). Tried using AC power adapter included in box, no signal still red light. Switched HDMI ports, no avail. I am scratching my head wondering what is wrong? From the top of my head I remember reading about some kind of hard reset on the chromecast subreddit, it had something to do with unplugging the chromecast still connecting power and doing something. The reset button isn't stuck (it clicks). The chromecast doesn't broadcast its SSID. Anyone have any other troubleshooting suggestions or things I should try?
Edit: The title should say "Chromecast red light (Think from new firmware 31432)

Sounds like your reset button is stuck.
Was your Chromecast rooted or stock?

My reset button clicks normally. It is stock. I fixed it one time by continuously turning it's power source on/off and turning it on it worked until I turned it off and back on again. (So it doesn't work , my fix doesn't work anymore)

In that case it sounds like it's (going) bad. I had one that was similar.
Call Google and get it replaced - the RMA process is pretty straightforward, at least mine was.

If you're within the store's return policy, replace it with them.
If not, you will need proof of purchase, at least that was the case as of last July.
Thank you for contacting Google. In order for me to process your warranty, I'll need to have proof-of-purchase from you validating the retail sale date. For proof-of-purchase, please take a picture of the sales receipt and send it over as an attachment to this email.

(They send you an email after determining the unit needs replacement on the phone call)
Micro Center may be able to look up your receipt in their system if you know the approximate date of purchase and you used a credit card.

Heaphone socket issue?

My HTC One seems to have developed an issue with it not being able to detect headphones in the headphone socket.
It happened within a couple of hours, I was using the same set of headphones earlier, working fine, nothing changes, go to insert them later, no detection...
I've installed SoundAbout and that lets me change the output to the headphone port to listen to music, so I've got a work around (I'm away atm, so can't send the phone back for another week).
I was wondering if this was a common issue? Or whether I've done something wrong...
Oh yes, I've rebooted and tried a different set of headphones which are "known good" to no avail.
Thanks,
Berny

I have a similar issue - I got my One on Sunday from Carphone Warehouse in the UK, and the headphone socket has yet to recognise any head phones, including the ones in the box. Quite annoying as it took six weeks for them to get hold of a black one. Everything else is fine. I have mailed HTC via the support website but have no idea what their support is like. I can't find a bunch of complaints so it's either something rare, or a non issue and I've missed something obvious.

Well that was just see if they might reply saying "try this" or "this will be fixed in an update". Optimistic, I know. Evidently your advice is sound however, as I have just received a reply that indicates they have not really thought the issue through:
" I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with the headphone jack not working.
The reason for this is could be down to multiple factors, to enable me to identify and resolve the issue we will need to go through some troubleshooting and eliminate some of the possible causes.
To resolve this, I would like you to perform the following steps:
Soft reset your device.
To do this you will need to remove the battery while the phone id turned on, for 20 seconds, replace then turn back on and test the device.
If signal returns and then drops shortly after then it will be an issue with the software.
Factory reset your device
WARNING: A factory reset will delete all of your data, including text messages, contacts and applications it is therefore extremely important that a back up has been completed and the SD card removed before conducting the reset.
From the Home screen
Press Menu Key
Go to Settings
Tap SD and Phone Storage
Tap Factory Data Reset
Tap Reset Phone
Tap Erase Everything
If your device is still experiencing issue after a factory reset then it may be a hardware issue...."
It goes on, but yes back to CPW for a replacement I guess - I will factory reset it and check the socket before I hand it back. If I get any joy with that I'll report back.
Just hoping it doesn't take another 6 weeks to get another black one. This one was unlocked as well, so I was quite pleased with that.
If it's faulty you can ask for a refund. I think all CPW phones are SIM free. I got mine from P4U sim free

Broken Chromecast

So after a couple days of playing with my chromecast, i had unplugged it from my tv in order to plug in my mhl adapter to test a few things. Upon plugging the chromecast back into the hdmi port it wouldnt display anything, no home screen nothing. I then attempted to factory reset it. After holding the button down for a good 3 minutes, there was no reaction. Now none of my devices see the chromecast, as well as it not outputting any video. I have contacted google and they are RMA'ing it for me. I just wanted to see if anyone else has expiernced this yet? I believe it may be related to the chromecast overheating possibly.

You're not alone. I streamed a little Netflix and YouTube to my new Chromecast two days ago, and when I tried to use it again last night, none of my devices could find it. It's displaying a black screen instead of the home screen, and, just like yours, holding down the reset button does absolutely nothing. I'm calling Google tonight to return this one and try another.
Well im glad to know im not the only experiencing this though it makes me a bbit sad to see the device flunk out so quickly. If anyone else is experiencing this please let me know

I just went through an RMA, it was fairly painless.
Note that I am in the US, RMA-ing a US Chromecast. Procedures may very well be different in other countries.
Go through the troubleshooter, then you will reach a point where you will get a number to call.
Speak to the representative, explain your symptoms and detail all the troubleshooting you have gone through. In my case it was extra easy for the agent because I have multiple Chromecasts and swapped the bad one for a working one and could rule out the power supply, USB cable, HDMI cable, and television all at once.
The agent will ask for your email address - if you have Google Wallet, use an address associated with Google Wallet - and send you an RMA form to fill out. You will need to enter Chromecast serial number and attach proof of purchase. I'm not sure what happens if you received Chromecast as a gift...
Once your RMA is accepted (usually within an hour or two), you will be sent an email with a link that must be clicked within 24 hours to continue the RMA process and a pre-paid return label to return the defective unit and all accessories.
When you click the link, you will go to Google Wallet checkout where you will "order" your replacement. Hint: Once your return is received, the entire order is canceled, including shipping charges, so you may want to choose the faster shipping.
An Authorization will be put on your credit card for the cost of Chromecast plus shipping.
Return your defective Chromecast, or if you wish, wait until the replacement arrives, make sure it works, then send your return back in the same packaging (this is especially useful if you have lost/discarded the accessories - not sure if they will accept a "bare" Chromecast without box or accessories)
Once your return is received, you will receive an email confirming that your order for the replacement Chromecast was cancelled and the held funds on your credit card will be freed.

CC updates and reboots non-stop since Aug 2014. No answer from Google.

Hi all. I have this issue with my CC.
In two words:
One day CC received an update, downloaded it to 100% and rebooted. After reboot update process started again. And again. This started in Aug 2014.
Tried to use original wall charger, with and without HDMI extender. Result is the same.
Factory reset doesn`t work (both - from app and by holding button). CC reboots and begins to download the update again. Without initial setup because it still remembers the configuration.
The only way to get to main screen and use the APP - is to disconnect WAN cable from router, so CC will use the WiFi network without Internet access.
Found this thread in Google Support, posted a reply. The sympthoms and all actions are the same.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromecast/3L4KNPi7BIU[1-25]
In the end of Aug CC started to work normally.
For a week.
And since Sep it is useless piece of plastic for me and others in that thread of Google Support Forums.
Any ideas how to bring it to life back? Device is not rooted. Firmware version is 16041.
I was thinking of buying Teensy, but want to give a last shot here.
For me something like that happened. When it was updating, make a factory reset and when it reboots, unplug it.
Make sure that you plug it to a wall plug and using a convenient adaptor to power the chromecast. Then, plug to HDMI again, and USB and, for me, it finished.
Also check the noise of the adaptor. Put it near your ear and listen if the sound is normal. Also, if still failing, try another adaptor.

OK. Then, you have tried a lot of things. But, can you send a video of the TV image and the pilot of the chromecast?. What type of TVs you tried? You can also try to use a friend's TV.
Also, I suggest you to force a OTA update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3026442
If none of these things work, you should contact Google in their forums or to the warranty. But not sending feedback on the app, because that is only for feedback. i don't know for sure what you need to do for send your device. I can't help you on that [emoji20] .
But try the reset combination. Send a video if you can showing what's on TV, pilot, the process you follow to restart, and how you force OTA.
Also, you should try to unplug it, wait a bit, plug again to HDMI and press the restart button BEFORE plug USB.
Different combinations can help. Also, if you can, send in the video the last method above.
More things:
- Try without HDMI connected
- In any moment it get blank pilot?
- Your mobile recognise it?
- If doesn't work factory reset, make sure you're pressing the button in about 1 minute and very strong (for make sure youre pressing well). And tell me if the light state change on that time.
Thanks [emoji1] !
First of all, thanks a lot for options.

Really strange. Also seems that doesn´t do a factory reset as normal.
Sorry but i don´t have idea what to do. The only thing I can say is to interrupt the OTA by unplugging the chromecast and try to plug again and before turn on the light, use the reset button. But i don´t have more possible solutions.
I can provide you a support link from Google in Spanish (my languague). I will translate you all the important info but if you want, you can use a translator or ask me.
The phone number to request support. Change Spain to your country: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6179357?rd=2
Google says:
- We can only replace your chromecast with a device that can be sold and used on the same country that you bought the original.
You said it before. But I suggest you to try to get a chromecast and receive it on your house using a transport business like UPS or going to that country, if it isn´t too far. Also, you can try to call to your local Google´s support phone to ask all I said above (the possibility to send it to that country and receive it with UPS) and also ask for a repair on your country if that isnt possible in any way.
Also i suggest you to open a new thread (to see if they look more on you ) with all the details like you do here and attach the video . All of that to give the support forums an idea and they wont say you that is your fault!!!!! :good: Is THEIR fault!. And see if they can give and advice to Google and fix it on a OTA update or help you too to return your Chromecast! Everything is possible...
Also take that survey after publish the thread related to setup problems. And when they ask you for comments or more problems, tell a bit resumed everything and attach the link of the thread you published.

And i dont have any document, that confirms purchasing, except manual. I bought it from a man in Russia, who purchased a bunch of CC in USA and resell in RU to get some profit.
In that time CC was unavailable for purchasing in RU, so the options where either to buy from local private resellers, order it on ebay or in google store through third-party, bacause google doesn`t ship goods to RU.

Yes I see the forum post. But I said open a new one with all the info you provided me here to see if with all the info they can help you more. Because you provide very short description of the problems of the forum. So it's recommended to open new thread to give attention to the support instead using an older one. I hope that you understand me now.
I also read that sentence that google says. But I thought at first time you bought it on a store instead of second hand (or first hand but sold by other person). I suggest you to contact to that person if you can, because that seems that he give you a bugged device.

I was pleased to get the update, it asked that I get the charge up to 40% plus which I did and left it plugged in and proceeded. I doubt that Google will be able to help you. Also, since its being about a year now, your watch probably doesn't have a warranty from Samsung anymore. Might still worth a try though.
See if your watch is detected by pc. I remember my watch had a glitch once. It wasn't booting up and was showing up as a device in device manager. I forgot the exact name, but it was not something you usually see when you connect in fastboot or adb mode. If it does then there might still be hope.
Try to boot your watch into fastboot mode. You need to press the power button and slide with your finger on the screen from left top corner to right bottom corner. Just slide it multiple times while holding the button. If it boots then you can either do factory reset or full reflash.
Thanks for the tips, Samsung seemed quite accommodating and gave me a return ship label,, we shall see, hoping for the best and not outrageous... Xing fingers...

If they do end up "repairing" it, you will get a brand new watch. Samsung doesn't bother re-flashing or repairing old watches, they just send you a new one. Don't include your wristband though. You'll get your old one back... unless they lose it.

Must be different in your country. Here is the instructions they sent me when I was sending my watch for repairs.
Shipping Guide Line
(1) Verify above information is correct
i.e: Name, Shipping Address, Model number and Serial number etc
(2) DO NOT INCLUDE ANY ACCESSORIES. (Cables, Remote control, manuals, Battery, Drivers, toner cartridge, imaging unit, transfer belt, waste toner bin etc), unless otherwise instructed.
(3)
a) Package Properly, this is the responsibility of sender
b) Include copy of this authorization in the package.
(4) Arrange shipping with UPS courier (United Parcel Service)
a) Attach UPS waybill on outside of the package.
b) write down UPS tracking number for your records

I guess it falls under "unless otherwise instructed" He was quite specific.. !!I did get the same printed instructions though...
As predicted Samsung sent an invoice for $188 to "repair" obviously not worth it with the new stuff coming out and particularly insulting since the OTC SW update caused it... Does not make me happy with Samsung to say the least...
I purchased mine from Amazon and in 6 months it was dead. Samsung would not warranty it in the USA because they told me that they didnt know where amazon bought it from and therefore wanted me to find out what country it came from and then they woudl give me that country customer service #. COMPLETE BULLcrap. amazon ended up giving me a refund.

Dead screen ?

My phone's screen just went black suddenly while i was using the phone last night. Nothing i do will wake the screen up, i tried rebooting by holding the power button, tried power+volume down also to boot into recovery .. no response. However the phone seems to be functioning as i can hear the screen lock sound. I think im stuck on the pin screen (the one to pass the boot-up-encryption). theres some vibration and feedback when i randomly press on the screen too.
The device is running Stock 6.0.1 , unrooted , stock kernel. Has this ever happened to anyone else ? could it be a software issue ?
I believe the LCD panel just went dead ..
Thanks!
Have you hooked it up to a computer and tried to see if it's recognised by ADB?

However the phone seems to be functioning as i can hear the screen lock sound. I think im stuck on the pin screen (the one to pass the boot-up-encryption). theres some vibration and feedback when i randomly press on the screen too.
The device is running Stock 6.0.1 , unrooted , stock kernel. Has this ever happened to anyone else ? could it be a software issue ?
I believe the LCD panel just went dead ..
Thanks!

I had a nexus that had a faulty screen and randomly shut off or something half the screen will glitch out and one day it just stopped working but I could hear the lockscreen sounds. Your best bet would be to send it in for service maybe its a loose connecting or a hardware issue. When mine started acting up it was a loose connecting so if I hit the phone with my hand it would go back to normal and then it stopped working. Its a common issue if you do a google search many people have encountered this
That sounds to me like a return-under-warranty job. If you were in the UK you could quote the Sale of Goods Act, which specifies that an item must be of suitable quality and last a reasonable amount of time, but in my case when I returned my faulty N5 to Google after 18 months they were as good as gold, didn't quibble, simply replaced it with a refurbished one which appeared to me to be indistinguishable from brand new.
Since by definition your phone must be very close to its warranty period, depending on when you got it, I'd start with that. This is the link I used from the UK - maybe different if you're elsewhere, but you should find a link called "Get a call from a hardware specialist":

Have you hooked it up to a computer and tried to see if it's recognised by ADB?

Havent done that yet. Only thing that would be good for is making sure its a hardware defect right ?

That makes sense. could be just a loose connector between the LCD panel and the MoBo ..
Problem is i live in Jordan and I got the phone from Dubai. Its still under warranty of the seller (Souq.com ; an online store .. kind of like Amazon of the middle east ), So i have to send my phone to Dubai to fix it. Now i could just go to a local phone repair shop and ask the guy to check the connectors, but im afraid that would void the warranty and not solve the problem ;( .

I submitted the form , although i live in Jordan which has no presence of Google whatsoever but what the heck !
thanks all for your suggestions.
Google is supposedly a global company...
Let us know how it goes, and good luck.
Well, if you figure out that it is just the screen, you can use this program for basic control with a lot of latency

It's a little rough and confusing but, it's workable. If you need help setting it up feel free to shoot me a PM.
