[MOD] 2013 Droid Family: Moto X 5.1 Patch - Droid Ultra Android Development

What is it?:
A small driver patch to better support running the new Moto X 5.1 stock ROMs on the 2013 Droid Ultra series phones (Mini, Ultra, Maxx). Now also patches the libstagefright vulnerability in these stock ROMs.
What's been tested?:
- Droid Mini, w/ T-Mobile: LTE, 4g, 3g, 2g, calling
- Wireless 2.4ghz, Bluetooth audio and calling.
- Video acceleration, audio, haptic feedback, camera.
- Deep sleep, power management, and wireless charging.
- Normal day to day usage for ~2 weeks now. No crashes, no problems.
YOU ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY AND ALL REPERCUSSIONS BY CHOOSING TO USE THIS INFORMATION
- If you have ANY doubts about the risks, definitely don't use this.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Read the first post for comprehension before posting.
- Read and understand the instructions before trying to follow them.
- Know how to use mfastboot to flash an FXZ.
Other Requirements: (Do a search before you ask...)
- Droid Ultra series device with unlocked bootloader.
- Stock Moto X 5.1 FXZ (I used xt1053 version).
- Current TWRP for Ghost (I used 2.8.7.0).
Instructions:
1: Unzip the Moto X FXZ to a directory on your computer.
2: *** DELETE "motoboot.img", and "gpt.bin"! DO NOT FLASH THEM!!! ***
THESE TWO FILES CAN PERMANENTLY DAMAGE OR BRICK YOUR DROID!!! DELETE THEM!!!
3: Reboot into bootloader for fastboot.
4: mfastboot flash your boot, logo, system, modem, fsg, and TWRP recovery
5: mfastboot erase modemst1, modemst2, userdata, cache, customize, and clogo
6: Use volume controls to boot directly to recovery. If you boot to OS by accident, you'll need to reflash recovery.
7: Let TWRP make changes to your system image to prevent recovery being overwritten.
8: In TWRP select "Install from adb", and then run "adb sideload Droid-MotoX-5.1_Patch.zip" from your computer.
9: Reboot device, and let TWRP install SuperSU.
Observations:
- First boot can take a long, long, time, and may hang. If it's still booting after 10-15 minutes, give it a reboot (PWR & VOL-).
- Your device will think it's a Moto X after reboot. This is normal.
- I highly recommend disabling the Motorola Update Service. The patch doesn't do this for you.
- No idea if this works with other Moto X stock ROM versions.
Notes:
- This is done in my free time, and isn't something I intend to support.
- Don't PM me directly for help! Ask in the thread.
- If you don't have enough post count to post in DEV, you probably shouldn't use this patch.
Bugs:
- None that I've seen so far.
Changelog:
- Initial release
- Added libstagefright patched libs from this thread.

So, just to be clear, this is NOT for Verizon phones?

For Verizon service you mean? This install should, in theory, support Verizon service, but I haven't tested it.
There is also nothing T-Mobile specific in the patch, so I don't see why it wouldn't "just work" with the Verizon version of the Moto X 5.1 ROM.

I noticed this says maybe work on droid maxx, but what about capacitive buttons or does the xt1053 have them too. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I was thinking about trying it on my maxx. Tired of waiting on the update.

All told, this ROM does a decent job of supporting the Droid phones out of the box. This patch basically just does a few things:
1: Activates the hardware buttons, and lights. (app switcher is mapped to menu by default)
2: Disables the software navigation bar.
3: Adds some libraries needed for audio on the Droid Mini.
4: Changes the DPI from 320 to 340 on the Droid Mini (smaller screen).
Cheers!

I will definitely try it out thanks

Works good.
But i would add the correct keylayout (with app switch) -> https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...e/blob/cm-12.1/keylayout/synaptics_dsx_i2c.kl and modify the build.prop to get the correct model & name.
Seems that this rom has no cell standby power drain (like all cm12 versions).

OK, so for Verizon service, one would get the VZW Moto X 5.1 FXZ and follow the same steps (anyone have a link)? Has anyone tried this out yet? I'd love to give it a go but have been out of the flashing game for a while now.

Yeah, this was a tough call. I set the button to menu since there are unfortunately apps which won't properly expose their on screen menu with the Moto X framework. As you point out, it's easy enough to change. My workaround is to set long press menu to "app-switcher" in Apex Launcher. You can also install an Xposed module which will give long press functionality for the best of both worlds.
And yeah, I concur. I haven't had any of the power drain issues, or call crashing issues I had with CM12. It's proving to be pretty stable thus far.

Replace this file /usr/keylaout/synaptics_dsx_i2c.kl in zip (and flash it again) or on your file system with this one: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...e/blob/cm-12.1/keylayout/synaptics_dsx_i2c.kl

Hm... It`s also works fine with AOSP 5.1.1 ROMs for Moto X and... even 4.4.4 stock ROMs for Moto X..
P.S. I just flashed it with TWRP 2.8.7.0 (just install - without ADB) before and after flashing ROMs )

Hello users. Can someone please upload some decent screenshots of this Moto X Firmware?
My brother has a Droid Ultra XT1080. I wanna ugrade his to Lollipop as Verizon hasn't been able to deliver an OTA.
But he loves all the Moto Apps like Moto Display, so are those working in this?

CM10.0 for Motorola Atrix HD Qinara MB886

Hello,
I just ported cm10 from the razr hd and changed everything to be Atrix HD and AT&T (Dear Bell users, you can still use this rom, it would work just as fine as AT&T )
Disclaimer:
I'm not responsible if this bricks your phone. It was your choice, NOT MINE!!!
Downloads:
CM10.0 1st build: http://d-h.st/FWb
Gapps: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
Thanks to the razr qcom dev team!!!
Screenshots:
Coming Soon...
Known bugs:
Camera (of course, because early cm builds usually have camera not working)
Signal bar (data works, just the signal bar doesn't)
Wifi (won't turn on, maybe)
NFC menu (It just needs to be removed, our phones don't have NFC )
Any more just PM me
Installation:
1. Boot into Safestrap Recovery
2. Create rom slot 1 (if you already created it, activate and wipe system and factory reset)
3. Install cm10.0 as first zip and gapps as second zip
The only reason I'm releasing this, is because it will work on a Stock kernel and ramdisk, unlike CM10.1
So basically the only issues are non working camera and WiFi? Any fixes coming?

I almost got wifi fixed.
I fixed Nfc to.
just do this with adb shell:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm /system/app/Nfc.apk
I'll add that next release
And I fixed the link.
I love that romming is starting to pick up, and i hope he gets his bounty from that other thread. Now its time to fire up linux and root this sucker! thanks again devs! Liked

Other than all that stuff. Only issue was extreme battery drain, I plugged my phone in at 19% and with little use (texting) it went down to 1%. My phone has never ever gotten down further than like 14%.

Everything except camera on mine works like a charm. No battery issues whatsoever either. LMT + NavBar delete = full screen awesomeness.

Try using the camera and camera related libs from ICS, should work. If not I'll look for a solution but camera should work with ICS libs. And WiFi fix is easy. There's already a method posted somewhere in our forums

If it were that easy the razrHD devs would've had the camera working a long time ago. CM10 handles camera stuff differently than stock.
I talked to a couple of them, and I'm not a noon I know this handles differently than stock.

Can you post the exact camera files they told you to swap? And what about the qcom_cameraservice (sp?) file -- should that be modified or left alone? All we need is the camera working on this thing!!
I like it so far, but some of the games are pretty laggy ( like temple run 2 )

If you have no need to use D3 (XT862 or XT861) in US where XT883 radio and some extra build.prop modifications are needed...
If you speak English or Polish and have nothing against old good Gingerbread (2.3.6) ...
...you can use cROM rom . Lots of hacks (stock XT861 + deodexed + zipalign + optipng + deblured + deblothed + 220DPIhack with full google store + USBCardFix + init.d + sysctl.d + adaware + seeder + automatic apns + roaming data patch + SIP in system [voip using buildin dialer] + DIALER mod + full screen contacts/dialer Images hack + gpu overclock + tethering + reverse tethering) + great stability + good memory management + better camera apps tolerance.
It's not available on xda because it supports only two languages (EN/PL). Installation and usage guides are in Polish but could be translated
Just ask google about "Droid 3 cROM". It has it's corner at forum.android.com.pl.
It is designed to be used/installed with the Safestrap but it can be used as a main DROID 3 ROM in place of stock rom (Safestrap backup/restore operations are needed to be performed)

Hidden settings/ ##7764726 not available on any 442 build. Confirmed.

On 4.4.2 anyway. It is there somewhere! The moto tech's could not get by without it!

@cellzealot
Any comment on it being in there somewhere?
No, the Programming Menu has been removed from the X since 4.4. If you use an app like Activity Launcher you can see that the only option that is still available is BP Factory Reset activity and it fails when launched from the Intent/Activity directly. Since these are the only Moto devices officially on 4.4.x builds we can't be certain if it is removed/disabled on other models yet.
I tend to doubt it.

[MOD] 2013 Droid Ultra Family Ghost Patch (obsolete)

The below information is obsolete. Please use the official obake version of CM12 for support on 2013 Droid devices.
A small patch I put together to make the new CM11 Ghost builds work (kinda) on the 2013 Droid Ultra series phones (Mini, Ultra, Maxx). It may also work for other Ghost based ROMs, but I haven't tested this.
So far, it's been lightly tested on the Droid Ultra M (Mini), and Droid Ultra Maxx. No guarantees, but it's been working okay so far for me.
Thanks to @an21281 for testing, and @mainbord for the original Droid Mini bins. Thanks also to the CM team for supporting us without even knowing it. =)
YOU ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL RISKS BY CHOOSING TO USE THIS PATCH
- If it breaks your phone, you get to keep both halves. If it eats your data, not my problem. Etc, etc.
- If you are lazy or like to take shortcuts, definitely don't use this.
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader. Phone should be on newest stock bootloader, radio, etc. (4.4.4 currently)
- Philz recovery for ghost: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/ghost/
- CM11 Ghost: CM11 Ghost
- GApps. I use the PA Nano package: PA Gapps
Instructions:
- Boot to recovery, and wipe data and cache.
- Install CM11 Ghost, then GApps, then the patch
Notes:
- This is done in my free time, and isn't something I plan on supporting. If I have time, I may make updates.
- I'm not actually using CM11 on my phone at the moment, so can't test things currently.
- TWRP for ghost doesn't set the right properties. Go bug them.
- The huge "full" GApps packages can fill up /system and break ****.
Changelog:
0.6 - 4.4 bins
0.8 - 4.4.4 bins
** Please search the forum or Google your question before posting. Thanks! **
Thank you so much!!
Man, i kept trying to figure out how to rewrite the build.prop and change the binaries to be able to flash the ones that switched to the ghost source. I really, really, appreciate this patch. Maybe with the present state of BL unlock and the super cheap price on the maxx we will actually (for once) see a large amount of development for the msm8960dt branch and not just be limited to the ghost builds. thank you for this, again.

Glad to hear it's working for you.
At least as far as the Maxx goes, all the heavy lifting was done by the CM11 folks.
The patch for the maxx is one binary file for the button lights, two simple configs, and a few lines in build.prop.
I'll be curious if the patch works for the plain Ultra.

Droid mini CM, keys and sound works!
This patch is going to be very useful if Lollipop is going to integrate the best of Motorola. This means I'll be able to flash CM ghost and still have native active display or whatever it is called in the Nexus 6. At that point, the customs ROMs will actually be relevant to the Moto X and Droid Maxx.

Great! Thanks for getting the ball rolling! Guessing you figured out the camera problem you were having? (I was guessing maybe a gapps issue with the Google Camera?).

Your English is fine. Thanks for the warning about that build date.
So when CM has a lollipop build (CM12?), we might be able to use this patch and have the Google version of Active (Ambient) Display? The only thing that keeps me from running CM is lack of a smooth working Active Display. This would be great news!

I asked the mods to clean up the off topic posts. The posts removed were requests for information either already contained in the first post, or easily found with a quick Google search. Unfortunately, these sorts of posts contribute nothing to the discussion, and make it hard for readers to find actual data when/if they have problems.
That said, I'm glad people were able to help you out. Have you had any luck getting it working?

As churapa pointed out on the "Enjoy Moto G4 Apps on Any Motorola Device" thread, if you are running a custom ROM and want to write to an external SD card you will need to:
1.- In /data/system
look for packages.xml
In there, look for com.motorola.camera1
2.- Add
Code:
<item name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE" granted="true" flags="0" />
Right after <perms>
3.- Save and Reboot
Thanks to MK99 for providing the V6.0.43.10 apk, DevendraMilmile121 for providing the V6.0.54.1 apk, igna.98 for providing the V6.0.78.1 and V6.0.84.1 apks so i could make these updates and Ayrlon for pointing out the V6.0.86.7 apk was available for download which i downloaded and updated from http://motorola-mobility-camera.apk.black/
The V6.0.62.1 apk was extracted from this stock Moto G5 Rom after i noticed that it had a more up-to-date version of the app
Interesting.. Just picked up a SMS Trojan in the apk??

Whatever i had been doing to sign the apk must have been wrong as i have just resigned the apk following the instructions from this page and the resulting file is no longer flagged as malware by Norton Mobile Security.
if you want to try apk again its up to you, i understand if you don't even want to go anywhere near it now.

Thank you for this application, works like a charm!
I would like to also ask if it's possible to set this modded camera as a default camera which opens after twist gessture?

some of the guys on the original thread used Twisty Switch via Xposed to get the gesture stuff to work.
i prefer using the double tap of the power button myself so have never looked into why the gesture is not working.

its was also pointed out on the original thread that the shutter speed setting does not work and if your running the stock 6.0 rom the ISO setting also does not work.
its a guess but i think the shutter speed setting is not working because an initial value is never being set in this file.
you can see an initial value being set at line 5613 when "setISOValue(ISO_AUTO)" is called but the setExposureTime method (at line 7112) is never called in the same way anywhere in this file.
Shame it doesn't have option to shoot raw.
Can this apk be more modded to give more control options on the shutter speed and ISO?

No, the list of settings are read in the hardware camera parameters which can not be modified.

That's way beyond the scope of enabling options that Motorola have disabled for a device and would first require Motorola to first enable the Camera2 api on the device which is something that has been discussed at length over on the Motorola forum
Thanksfor the apk! Too bad iso and shutter don't work. But better than nothing! Tnx again

Are you running android marshmallow? The original apk has been set to expect marshmallow as a minimum and will not run on lollipop.
