Help! LG G4 running slow/hot and horrible battery - Sprint LG G4

Hey guys I've had my G4 for about a month now and have taken it to Sprint twice with no help. I'm averaging 7 hrs battery with light usage and multi tasking is pretty much impossible without having the phone get really hot and get really slow. I came from an m8 running the same apps and it doesn't compare. Reps at Sprint pretty much did and said the same bs...keep closing apps, you need to update prl and profile, its normal for it to get hot, do hard reset. Any help please

okay this is like my g3. dont go to the store. call the customer service reps and go ape ass on the phone and make them do a warranty replacement. never fails.

Thanks I'll def try that. Hopefully that helps

I've contacted LG twice about the touch screen issues. Do you think if I keep in contact with them they will send me a new phone. I hate having to do the knock feature 3 times before my phone wakes and all the missed touches are annoying. I've updated and did a reset on my phone and it did not help.

not lg. call sprint. 1 888-211-4727. call and go ballistic. they WILL replace it. tell them you arent going to pay for them sending you a defective product and that you want to do a warranty replacement.

dude the phone is still through sprint.

@bartbg323. I have had mine for a week and was having the same issues. I think I have figured it out, at least for me. There is a know bug in Lollipop with Location services and play services. What the problem is that with Location services set to use network services to determine Location (battery saving) it causes play services to constantly request Location. Two solutions: either disable Location services or set it to device sensors only. Since I did that the battery drain went away. I hope this helps.

[Q] Anybody have experience with ATT Warranty Center?

Today I went to the AT&T store to complain about the GPS issues on the Captivate. The associate (after looking the device over), gave me a flier/form and told me to take the phone to the local AT&T warranty center. The flier seems to indicate that the warranty center folks would either fix the issue or replace the device if they agree that my phone has an issue and is not (water) damaged etc.
Anybody have any experience with this?
I don't have any experience while owning a Captivate and going to the Warranty Center...
But when I had my Samsung Impression, and the phone display (it was a touchscreen with a slideout keyboard) completely stopped working, it wouldn't register any touch at all, I took it to them, they turned it on, tested that it truly didn't work, and they gave me a new phone (might have been refurbished) on the spot. Walked out with a smile on my face and went on with my day.
Same experience with two LG Xenons with bubbles under the screen. On the spot replacement within 10 minutes after they verified that the moisture sensor was clear.

Refurbished phones are the replacement. Very easy to deal with.
I had the same thing with my wife's Bold - warranty center didn't really try to fix it, just did the replacement. You have to make sure to do the data wipe before the exchange, and they can't do much in terms of data transfer. Process itself is very quick and straight-forward.
For my captivate GPS I just did a mail replacement. Gives me the time to swap everything at home with no pressure.
Funny you should ask. I'm currently dealing with a warranty exchange via phone and mail. I called customer support and told them about the random shutdown issue. They transferred me to the "Android" department. The Android department has heard about this so-called random shutdown issue so they sent me a replacement (refurb) phone after asking me questions like "Has your phone ever been dropped?" "Are there any damages to the screen?" "There is a square sticker right next to the 3 golden battery connector prongs. What color is it?" (FYI. If your phone gets wet, that white square will turn to a different color! Mine is still white. Never been in water. Anyway...)
They sent me the phone yesterday and today I turned it on. There was a new problem. It randomly takes me back to the Home screen when I'm just casually browsing the web, flipping through my apps, etc. It doesn't force close the app or system that I'm on. I just boots me out of whatever I'm doing and shows me the Home screen. So, I called to tell them about this problem. It is now in a box that it originally came in and it's waiting to be shipped out. They will give me another Captivate in the mail by Friday.

The Warranty Repair Center in my town doesn't stock Captivates. They'll take a look at the phone to see if it was damaged or submerged, then tell you to call the 800 number. Or, you can skip driving in to a warranty center and just call the 800 number. The people there will talk you through some basic troubleshooting, then ship you a replacement (ground is standard, you can pay for an upgrade to overnight). You have 10 days after that to return your phone.
As for your GPS problems.... if you've upgraded to JH7 and can get a solid lock out in the open under a clear sky, well... Sorry to disappoint, but your replacement phone is probably going to have just as many problems with the GPS. I do (and I'm on my 4th Captivate), so do 7 of my friends and coworkers who have Captivates, and so do about 90% or more of the people reporting on the forums.
According to AT&T and Samsung, the JH7 update 'addressed the GPS issues'. And it did make it better... Before, it would just about never lock on. Now I can usually get a lock within 10~20 seconds and it'll show me where I should be.... until I go for a drive.
The test is this: install My Tracks and go for a drive around town. Once you're done, take a look at your track.
If you've got a softtop convertable or a fiberglass roof, you're good.
If you've got the phone far forward on the dash and have a large, steeply raked windshield, you're good.
If you've got a large sunroof, you might be good.
Otherwise, you're stuck with a measured 50m~100m accuracy (it reports 15m~30m, but don't believe it) if you can even maintain lock.
Good luck!

Very easy to deal with IMO. I am on my 3rd captivate.
1st one experienced random shutdowns, 2 days later received second one in mail and wouldn't get any network signal, 2 days later my 3rd and hopefully last captivate was on my doorstep.
All you have to do is send in your old unit. I was satisfied with the android people over at ATT.
Dealing with AT&T is MUCH more pleasant then dealing with Samsung for your warranty support. They're quick, they're nice, and they get you in and out in about 30 minutes.

Yeah, I don't think it's that. It wasn't just on the Browser. It was also doing it while I was just flipping through the apps or reading an email using the stock email, or SMS, or looking at Settings. Anything I was on, it booted me out and took me to the Home screen. I returned it. I'm getting my 5th Cap today.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll post my experience if it turns out to be any special or interesting.
One other question. My phone is currently rooted. Should I spend effort unrooting it or it should be fine?
Unroot it and/or flash it back to original JF6 using ODIN One-click. If you've installed Froyo, do a Master Reset so it'll delete traces of 2.2 folders and whatnot. Backup first!
Pleasant experience
I went to the AT&T warranty center last weekend and was in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes with a new Captivate in hand. It was an extremely pleasant experience.
Just want to say that this replacement device (new and not refurbished) locks the GPS in about 10 sec inside the car and even faster under the sky and remains spot on. This leads me to believe that it may be some batches of device with buggy hardware with GPS issues.
Thanks
100% of the phones you get at the device support centers are refurbished sport. I'm a manager at one. If they told you it was new you have been whamboozled

I'm a manager at one of the at&t device support centers. Odin one click flash to original software is the only way to pass our inspections. We're not dumb. We can see if you've monkeyed with it in exactly 3 clicks

Walked in, gave them a Captivate that refused to charge, boot, or respond in any way, walked out with one that works.
Took maybe 30 minutes tops.

When I asked specifically whether the device was refurbished, I was told that it was new unit, as the refurb units have some red sticker on the device (when you take the battery out). Either way it does not matter to me as this unit works perfectly including the GPS.

Looks like you were lied to.
Unless if you were still under your 30 days, which would put you under the buyer's remorse program [completely apart from Warranty], then you'd be receiving a new model.
+ most Warranty Captivates are affected by the random shutdown issue, as they aren't scrapped if they're under the affected IMEI range.
You're using a refurbished Captivate, all in all.
My first phone was rooted and then the random crashes started. It got so bad I couldnt turn the phone on unless I did a battery pull then with the charger plugged in and finger banging and milking a cow at the same time.
I finally got it into download mode and went back to stock. I went to the tech center explained what happened and she replaced it right on the spot and gave me a NEW phone, battery and charger. BUT she gave me my old battery cover. :-(

[Q] Does Froyo fix the power off issue?

Guys, I'm really starting to get seriously annoyed with my Captivate. I'm having multiple issues with it. I've got the "Power-Off" issue where it turns off when in standby, which has caused me no end of problems. I also am finding that I have to remove and re-add my Exchange account pretty regularly. It stops receiving mail, but doesn't give any errors. I can remove the account, and then re-add it, and it will work again for awhile. Third problem is that when I try and access Exchange mail from the quick toolbar at the top, it invariably crashes the Email app. These are all things that HAVE to work for me to have this phone. I was going to wait for Froyo to see if these things get fixed, because I really don't want to return the phone. I've put money into Zagg protection shields, and have all my contacts on here. Yes, I know I can back them up and do send the shields back to Zagg for replacements, but I'd rather not have a refurb phone. I'm quite seriously thinking about going back to the dark side and getting the iPhone 4 when Verizon comes out with it.
Sorry about the rant, here's the question. Does anyone know if these issues are fixed in the Froyo release?
Thanks!
Teejeaux
I do not think flashing a rom will cure your random shut downs. Sorry, I would go warranty exchange

Power off issue is NOT a software issue. U could get ur phone exchanged under warranty exchange from AT&T. I had mine replaced 3 times.

Not a battery issue, with the experience I had:
Phone 1: 10.06 - Replaced due to battery life too low (within 30 days) - got phone 2
Phone 2: 10.07 - Sleep death issue - Phone - Warranty replacement - got phone 3
Phone 2: 10.07 - Sleep death issue - Battery - new battery sent - retained phone 3
Phone 3: 10.08 - Sleep death issue - Phone - Warranty replacement - got phone 4
Phone 4: 10.07 - --- this is working without sleep death or charge death ---
The phone I have now is a 10.07 build.
Hope this helps.

[Q] New to me Free G2! warranty question

I have looked over this site and have gotten tons of useful information for when I was rooting and flashing my daughters Nook tablet. Which is running a fairly good Liquid smooth rom currently. I finally decided to join because my girlfriends LG G2 got the dreaded phantom touches, dead spot issue. Well since she didn't want to deal with sending it in to LG she jumped ship and purchased an S5. Which she loves more than the G2. So I got the busted LG G2 .
Since I have a current phone to use I decided to send the G2 to LG for a warranty repair. So hopefully I get back a minty fresh 100% working G2 soon. I will be using a Straight Talk Sim running on ATT towers. I verified it worked in the broken G2 before shipping it off. I was able to send/receive texts and get data. No LTE though but that is fine. I pulled about 7mbps on speedtest which is more than I need. I'm coming from an apple Iphone4. Yes just a 4 and I've had this phone forever now. Can't wait to get rid of it. So even a G2 without LTE is a huge step up. I thought about swapping the VZW for an ATT branded one but ultimately decided the wireless charging was better for me than LTE speeds.
Now for my questions. The original warranty is up in October. Is anyone that is getting a warranty repaired phone have the dead spot issue again? Am I only covered until October on the warranty replacement or does it extend in anyway? I like the phone, except all the VZW BS on it but that can be fixed at a later date.
figured I would update this. I finally got the phone and everything works as it should. I received the same phone back fixed it seems. Only thing is now I can see the digitizer more. I couldn't notice it too much before but it's clear as day now. But small price to pay for a working screen.
I popped in my sim card and setup the apn and even configured it so tethering would work. I had to add something to the apn to get it to work. I don't tether actually but we just went on a long trip and needed it for a quick few seconds so we could send and receive emails on the laptop.
Only issues is the VZW phone had way too much bloat and I would constantly get errors from the VZW apps because I wasn't on their network. So within a day I had to root it and flash the cloudy g3 rom. I must say I love it much more now.
My issues thus far is the battery doesn't seem that great. My old iphone4 held as much of a charge on a 4 year old battery half the size. But maybe that's because I have been playing with this phone alot more. Other thing is the service fluctuates like crazy. I go from 1 bar to full bars back to 1, to 3 etc. I don't hardly ever lose service and I've yet to drop a call but sometimes get a network error.
Back to the calls, I must say it is not very pleasant sounding. The people don't ever complain about the way I sound but other peoples voices coming through my phone sound almost muffled. Definitely not as clear as my old phone. I will have to look into this more. Maybe there is a setting or some way to tweak the sound.

I'd try a stock rom and just debloat it just to rule out the signal and voice call issues. There are some already debloated ones in the Dev section here.

Thanks I will try that out. I hope this isn't the case though because I enjoy the look and feel of the g3 rom over the g2. Even if it was the rom I might live with the poor voice as I don't talk too much on the phone and it's still usable as it is.

Constant Crashing and Screen Freezing Issues

Hi guys.
I'll get to the point and say that I got this phone towards the middle of July to replace my failing Optimus G and it's already having a multitude of issues.
The phone worked great through heavy usage on a week period at the beginning of the month while I was travelling. Two days ago the right side of the screen began to freeze, either showing colored static or what was previously loaded. I note that the screen still works fine even inside of a different app, pressing buttons, etc. but continues to freeze and load what is actually going on a moment later. Happens on both the recovery mode screen as well as the lock screen.
Now, the phone also began to have crashing issues some time last week. I was playing Fallout Shelter when the device suddenly crashed. This hadn't happened with Fallout Shelter or any other (heavier) games at all since getting the phone. I rebooted and later was playing WWE Immortals when the phone crashed when going through the logo and copyright screens. After this crash, however, the phone went from around 50% battery to 0% and needed a charge.
I thought this was a fluke last week until it did it again yesterday... multiple times.
Last night the WWE Immortals crash happened again but the phone remained at 100%, where it was since it had been charging, instead of dropping to 0%. It powered on after popping the battery and pressing the button. Later on in the night, I was checking my email when the phone crashed out of nowhere. I once again popped the battery and it booted. However, this time, it would not load past the Sprint screens after the LG/Powered by Android one. It just hanged on the Sprint logo. It sat there for ten minutes until I took the battery out. I tried again and it wouldn't get past the LG screen.
I attempted Recovery Mode, which works of course, and cleared the cache and rebooted the phone. Once again, it crashed on the LG screen. I gave up for the night and tried again today. Same thing happened a few more times until the phone finally booted. I get in and try uninstalling apps to clear space to bring the phone to 11 of 32 GB free. I go to check what other "misc." data is eating up storage when the phone crashes again and I haven't successfully gotten it to boot again.
Should I attempt a factory reset? The closest Sprint store is miles away (I live in downtown Indianapolis and there isn't one nearby without taking a long walk or bike ride or bounce across bus lines, whatever) and the last time I got help from was just a new phone (replaced a phone because it's screen was broken, yeah, right. I went somewhere else to get a replacement the second time it happened). I feel like this a big hardware issue a reset wouldn't fix but, who knows.
I guess I should also note that, within the past week, my camera apps (be it the stock camera app or Snapchat) crash when using the front camera and it never loads a preview before crashing and the phone has been oddly hot (be it when I was cleaning up apps, idle, or just when attempting to boot) the last day. Also, as I was typing, I've been attempting restarts and cache clears and Recovery Mode, during one of the tries, never even loaded the options and a power button press restarted the device.
...At this point I'm just curious what exactly could mess with a phone this much. I refuse to believe it's any kind of virus since nothing was ever picked up and I know my way around the internet. I like LG phones, I loved my last one (other than it didn't have an SD card slot, but, eh, cloud storage!) and I like the cameras.
Phone is an LS991, unrooted.
From what I have been gathering(and this is all hearsay!) is that the first batch of these phones have serious hardware problems that might be related to the CPU. The best option would to try and get LG to replace the phone as they are less likely to have a phone in stock still that was part of the bad batch. If you can't get them to do it then try a Sprint repair store and see if they will swap it out. Be clear that this a warranty issue and not issuance issue. As a last resort you have to claim insurance on it.

Well, that's somewhat depressing to figure out that they messed up part of the batch but that always happens if it's true.
Guess I'll have to check with LG or get someone to drag me to Sprint to see what they say. I'm not one for getting insurance on tech (and given I got the phone for cheap, being due for the upgrade and all) but hopefully warranty can help me out. Thanks for the heads up!

Spoke with LG last night and the customer service rep was pretty clear that LG does not replace phones they only "fix" them. I would not trust LG to give you a new phone at this point as they will most likely just re-flash the phone and send it back to you. Unless anyone else who has dealt with LG repair in the past can say otherwise I wouldn't go the LG route. Now, if someone bricked their phone that might be a good thing to try since Sprint repair can't flash phones but if you need a new phone it looks like Sprint is the way to go. Just make sure you are clear that this is a warranty issue and not insurance. I bought my phone at Best Buy so this will be interesting for me as they probably will want nothing to do with me since I don't have TEP. I will report back on if they give me the shaft or not because I am sure others might be in the same situation as me.

Late reply is late, whoops.
That's interesting. Never really intended on the LG route since I've never had issues with Sprint replacing a device in the past so I'd go to them before anyone else (which we are, when my mom comes down to help me out with this since the closest store is just too far away and it's her cell plan).
And man, I wouldn't be able to stand buying from BestBuy but that's my personal qualms with them, hah. Hope you had good luck with them.
Hi. We have c got the same phone. Got 4 of them and 3 working great but my husband's is doing the exact same thing as yours and like you we have no insurance and had same reply from lg. And best buy was no help at all. Wondering if you figured out how to fix it or not
Forgot to mention we are verizon not Sprint. Not sure if that matters.
Just got my G4 replaced with a brand new one at Sprint. I have TEP, and they said they'd normally order a refurbished one. But, I got lucky since there are no refurbished ones (they're on backorder, probably due to these issues), so they just gave me a new one.
Lets hope this one one wasn't a lemon like the first one...fingers crossed because I love this phone...
We called verizon and they are over nighting a new phone. Thank you for the reply tho
This happened to me as well. It crashed maybe twice a day and now I can't get it on because it is crashing 1000 times. Its stuck in a crashing loop. Sprint is giving me a completely different g4 when their next batch comes in. It has been 2 weeks and I still don't have a new phone. I am hoping that I don't get this problem again or I am getting an iphone 6.

Pixel 4xl stuck on 50% . Switches off randomly and has a battery symbol with a (?).

Hi All.
Battery stuck on 50% won't change even when charge or discharge. Today it randomly shutdown in my pocket. and then had a battery symbol with a ?. The phone eventually turned on, I've tried turning off location, rebooting still having issues. Sometimes the battery saving mode stops working, i.e. it cannot be turned on. As I can see the problem concerns a large group of users and nobody knows what this problem is related to. Google is silent as usual. Is this a problem with the software or components ?! I am in a bad situation because I have no warranty for the device and I do not know where to send the phone in Poland because no one knows what is the cause of the problem. Help me please.

Had this.
This is going to sound dumb:
Shut your phone off.
Now squeeze the phone around the G logo on the back (like you're trying to compress it).
Now turn it back on and charge normally.
This is potentially only a temporary fix as I have no idea how this would be software related.
If you can enter bootloader mode, you still have chance to save your phone by yourself :
(1)Make sure there is fastboot&ADB tool in your computer
If you don't have it, please download from here(https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools). To click the one depends on which one of OS you have and then install in your computer
(2)Download google factory image file from here(https://developers.google.com/android/images). To choose the model of your phone and download it then extract file.
(3)Reboot your phone to bootloader mode. Then use USB cable and make phone connected to your computer USB port. Then execute the window commend mode. key in
fastboot devices ===> make sure your phone being catched by your computer
flash-all ===> To build up a whole new pixel OS in your phone.
Good luck !

Ive had my pixel 4 xl since november and it just started automatically shutting off when in my pocket all by it self a few weeks ago , took cell phone to my sevice provider and they sent it in for repair ...received a new phone ...well refurbished p4 xl only to have if start happening again days later and have the 50% battery start happening also ....contacted google and they are in the process of sending me a new refurbished p4 xl , so this will be my 3 rd p4 xl ..lol
very frustrating to say the least ....ive had to hard reboot my phone at least 20 times a day or basically keep it out of any pockets , the is common issue apparently with pixels phones from what i've read in the link https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/22397169?hl=en
I've talked with loyalty department at my service provider and if it happens again with the pixel that google sends me , then they will allow me to void my contract and supply me with a new device from a different brand ...ie Samsung or apple or whatever else is available on the market right now on there website.
i'll be really bummed if i have to switch to a samsung or apple buuuuuut need a stable device ...lol
So to anyone having this issue that still has a basic warranty, there are at least 2 options ...rma device over and over till you get one that doesn't have this problem or contact service provider and explain your situation and most likely they will be understanding to the fact that you have purchased a 1200.00 phone that requires constant rma's and hopefully allow you to exchange for a different brand of phone that doesn't have this these problems

I fully understand you. I am in a worse position. As a loyal Google fan, I bought my pixel from someone who didn't have a proof of purchase. In Poland it was difficult to get it, and as it was 1.5 times more expensive than everywhere else. It seems that I can throw out the pixel and buy another phone for a lot of money. I am most annoyed by the company's attitude. It looks like they are xxxxx on us.

This is the "No Warranty Solution" : Flash a full factory image and allow it to completely wipe your phone. This is the second step Google support would give you (the first is doing a factory data reset from Recovery). If after flashing your phone, restoring it to the original "out of the box" state, you still have a battery issue, then the next step is to replace your battery. If you forgot to state in your OP that your bootloader is still locked (so you can't flash the image) then you need to do that first. Bottom line is you need to factory reset the phone to rule out a software issue. If the restored phone still has the same problem, then you need to focus on the hardware. Best of luck. :good:
Yes, it does !

Same happened to me with 4 XL 64.
I've been able to "fix" with the turn off and squeeze but the problem has turned into the battery discharge displayed gets stuck at a percentage and it won't charge. I have to turn off & squeeze to get it back.
Finally called Google and they are making me send my phone in for repair. Now I assume for turnaround sake, they'll just send me a new refurb back. That also means I'm not confident the problem will be resolved as there are over 150 replies on the Google Support page identifying this problem.

Looks like some folks are getting a replacement before sending the problem phone back but others are required to send it in or drop off at repair facility.
Good for me? I have Preferred Care and I'll keep sending them back until I get one that works.
Bad for me? I'll have to keep sending them back + I splurged on the orange color so I doubt I'll ever see that again.
I've actually dealt with this. This is a hardware issue. I had the same problem. Covered by warranty, I took it to ubreakitifix after contacting Google and they took care of me. Trust me this isn't a issue where you can flash this or squeeze that. This is a hardware issue on Google's part. There's nothing you can do as a phone user about a defective battery in a 6+ month old $1000 phone

You might be able to convince them to send you a device before you ship it off, citing the current global situation and a need for a cell phone
OP lives in Poland and has no receipts or warranty. Poland is not a supported country so he is looking for "non-warranty" solutions.

The return process was pretty great. I shipped my existing phone off on a Monday (Illinois to Texas) and by the following Monday, I received my exact phone back (has a screen protector on it). I was very satisfied with that. HOWEVER, the "repair" still has an issue where if I charge to 100%, the icon stays at 100% until I reboot and then it'll display the correct battery %.
The repair documentation was a bit vague and said they replaced the "charging port". I still believe there's a unannounced hardware issue. Can anyone say, class action????
---------- Post added at 04:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:49 AM ----------
I wonder what the next step would be if I started another repair claim?
Holding the power button down for more than 3 consecutive seemed to solve a similar issue for me. My P4 was holding certain percentages for too long (even though the phone actually lost more).

This post seems to have been ignored. If it happens to me, I'll try that. But my carrier purchase didn't qualify for Google extended care add-on. Standard warranty only. Does that make a difference in what Google would do in this case?
I use Accubattery and monitor charge cycles for "battery wear". Even following "Battery College" recommendations, battery health has dropped from 99 to 95%; I've had the P4XL since November. I'm now slowing the charge, getting away from power delivery to see if that helps slow the wear. SOT varies greatly per charge.
I use a belt pouch for carrying phone while away from home. Rarely, I put it in my pocket but do so at home- front pocket only- never back pocket. May just be bad phone batteries from what I've read.

For 5 weeks my Pixel has been in the authorized repair center in Germany. They don't have parts to fix it. They told me that. It is not known how long this may take. I haven't had such a circus with a good smartphone. I love Google products, but I feel very disappointed because Pixel cost me a lot of money and this is definitely a factory defect.

Sorry to hear this, and surprising, as Germany is a supported country with many authorized repair centers. Did you send it to PSC? They claim to be Google-certified and have all factory parts? COVID-19 may also be delaying things. Hope things turn out well for you. :good:
