The cable for the Galaxy Note 3 the same as the Note 5? - Galaxy Note5 Accessories

cannot find where to get a second cable for my note 5. I am coming from a note 3 so I know that cable is different but what about the note 4 cable, is it the same? Thanks

Yes the note 4 cable will be the same. Any standard micro usb should work but if you want Samsung specific Amazon has them on the cheap. The Note 3 is only different because of the USB 3.0 but actually a standard micro USB cable will work on the Note 3 as well. But again, virtually any store that sells phones or computer peripherals should have cables that will work.

Yes any micro USB cable will work. However, if you want to charge your battery with quick charge 2.0/adaptive fast charge then you need a cable with thicker gauge wire.

[Q] HDMI port issue

Hi team,
I just bought an HDMI cable to connect by phone to the TV. The problem is that the cable just wont fit in to Note1. However, it works perfectly fine with Note 2.
I can use the same charger to charge my Note 1 and Note 2. But the HDMI cable port just wont fit inside Note 1 as if its not meant for it. I tried to push it but it refuses to connect.
AFAIK, HDMI cables are universal and can be used on any phones which supports this feature. I may be wrong.
Any ideas what is causing this issue?

Don't know how it looks on Note 2, but all Note 1 has is USB port into which fits only USB.
Sending screen to other devices is done with MHL converter, which has USB plug which goes to Note, USB port for external power and HDMI port for connecting to TV. I'm sure more info can be found in accessories forum.
PS. I have a vague feeling that questions should generally be posted in Q&A forum...

The man is bang on, there's no hdmi port on any phone AFAIK... Mhl ports vary pins on generation of phone, so the note2 matches the s3 and I think the s2 matches the note, but it usually states on the product page which models they fit.

Hi there, It looks like a Y shaped cable. One end goes into the phone (charger port) and on the other side, there are 2 wires (ports), one goes into the HDMI port on the TV and the other goes into the USB port on the TV. The USB port does the job of charging the phone simultaneously while the HDMI does the job of extending the screen from phone to TV. There is no MHL adapter. The cable does all the job.
On the package, it says for Galaxy S3 so I guess it will work only with S3 and Note 2. I need to buy one more which is compatible with S2 and Note1.
My only question is that since the charging port on Note1 and Note2 is similar, how come there is still a compatibility issue with Note1? I was under the impression that the cable/port would be standard for these Samsung android phones and if it fits into Note2, then why note on Note1?
That's called an mhl adapter. The port in the phone is micro usb, so the signal is converted to hdmi.

Which OTG Cable has Charging Capabiity for Note 5

I'm looking for a Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power that charges the Note 5 while it's in host mode. I can't seem to find anything by searching.
Can anyone confirm which cable works with the Note 5 and provide a link? Under $5 preferred.

I've googled it already and couldn't find the answer. Some links:
pastebin.com/nwGPnrrc
Basically, different cables are needed for different phones because of the resistance value needed, and a kernel patch may be necessary.
Also, I've asked for someone to confirm that a specific cable will work with the phone.
Next time, Google before you post.

USB-C limited to USB 2.0 transfer speeds?

I have tried 'A1 SD Bench' to test my Note 8 with a 512GB Samsung T3 SSD.
The best results I can get is:
Read: 33.42MB/s
Write: 35.57MB/s
I have tried the following connections:
- Direct USB-C to USB-C
- Note 8 <-> USB-C all-in-one hub <-> USB-A to USB-C cable <-> Samsung T3 SSD
- Note 8 <-> Original Samsung USB-C to USB-A female <-> USB-A to USB-C cable <-> Samsung T3 SSD
Any ideas how to get full USB 3.1 transfer speeds?
From what I understand, I might be wrong, but I read that the USB type c port on the Note 8 is USB 2.0

It's actually USB 3.1, you're probably thinking of the fast charge version which is vs 2.0

It charges slow but it's very consistent at temperature management. The device does not heat up like the ones using other fast charge technologies. I just read a comparison article and Samsung's version is definitely not the fastest, but it's definitely one of the cooler ones.

IIRC from another thread, the USB-C cable that comes in the box is a USB 2.0 cable. Maybe try a different one?

Oh no, that's terrible!! Cause my note 7 is the fastest charging phone I've ever had and to hear it's slower than the note 4 damn....note 7 charge from 15% to full in about 35-45 minutes....maybe less never timed it but love how i can forget to charge overnight, wake up plug in and its done by the time I'm out of the shower......ugh

I hope my phone is defective lol. Can anybody relate? It's about 200 mAh bigger than the note 4's removable battery so maybe that's the increase in time? I feel like any percentage I plug in it's 1hr and change until full, even at 40%*

Huh? I am confused, I find my Note 8 charges faster than any phone I have ever had and that includes the Note 7, really I can go from about 20% to 100% in about 20 minutes or less.

The OP isn't asking about charging speed, he's asking about data transfer over USB.
I have USB 3.0 and 3.1 type A ports on my desktop PC and using a 3.1 Type C to Type A cable it's very clearly much faster than using the cable in the box, which does appear to be usb 2.0 wired.

To be clear you'll only recognize the "fast charge" with screen off. Always on display is fine though.

Yeah I rarely use my phone when it is charging. I use pushbullet on my computers so I wont miss a text or call. I compare the charging speeds of Note 8 to the Note 4 in the morning charging. The Note 8 will not be charged in an hour whereas the Note 4 easily did it. Sorry OP. I'm done.
That brings the question: how do you tell which cable is really wired for USB 3? And what's the difference? Wires have to be the same, is it just shielding? I would imagine due to higher frequency, if signal is not clear it would negotiate lower transfer rate?
I have couple USB wires from Note 7, maybe those are better made?
And is the phone really capable of accepting data anywhere near full USB 3 speeds?

I found an article that states USB-C hubs downgrading speeds to USB 2.0 so I guess thats one of the main reasons the DEX is also limited to 2.0 speeds.
https://gtrusted.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-seems-to-downgrade-usb-3-1-hubs-speeds
I however cannot get USB 3.1 speeds even when using a direct USB-C to USB-C link.
If the Note 8 is not capable of utilizing the full speed of USB 3.1 speeds then I'm quite disappointed.
One of things I really wanted to do was backup DSLR pics from SD cards to SSD rapidly without a laptop whilst on travel.
Are you using a 3.1 capable cable?

It turns out the USB-C to USB-C cable I got is not usb-3.1 spec:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/B06Y4N4K9Z
The USB-C to USB-A cable I got that came with the Samsung T3 SSD is definitely USB3.1 spec so Samsung USB-C to USB-A female adapter is probably USB2.0 speeds.
And according to the article going through a hub also limits the connection to USB2.0 so I'll either need a new USB-C to USB-C 3.0 cable or USB-C to USB-A 3.0 female adapter to do further testing.

Car Fast Charger?

I have 2 car fast chargers.
1. iRAG 36W Dual USB Quick Charge 3.0 Car Charger
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073RQ915H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
2. AUKEY Car Charger with 36W Dual Quick Charge 2.0 Port
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0176HA31U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The problem is that they don't consistently work on the Note 8, they both work with my Nexus 6 and S8+. When I plug the Note into either one it will say fast charging for a few seconds and then go to regular slow usb charging. Then 3 times out of 10 they will stay on fast charge. What if anything am I missing? A setting on the Note 8?
TIA

Note 4 vs Note8 Charger

Hey all.
Just wanted to ask a question. I lost my Note 8 charger, the output seems to be identical on Note 4 and Note8 chargers.
Is there an issue if I use Note 4 charger to charge my Note8 ?
Regards!

Wasn't the Note 4 fast charging as well? If output is the same, why would it be slower?
OP, you will need to use the appropriate adapter included with your note 8 to plug the older charger into the new usb-c plug on the Note 8.
I'm using my note 4 charger with my note 8 and no issues. It takes about 1 hrs and a half to charge full (I have the fast charge turned off ).
Only reason for the note 4 charger because I bought the note 8 international version and I can't use the power brick here. And yes the voltage is the same on both chargers.
note 4 was the first iteration of quick charge.
We aren't on the first iteration anymore

You can always use a standard travel adapter with the original power plug too if you ever need it.
Am i missing something ? Bothe Note 4 and Note8 support Quick Charge 2.0. The specs of the charger are exactly the same , so I guess the chargers are identical !

Because Samsung scared, even the battery capacity has been reduced...
I plugged a usb 2 to C adapter onto my old Note 5 charger (rather the one that came with the original Fast Charge wireless puck charger) and with this my Note 8 will not fast charge.
The wireless fast charging works on the old puck though.
