somewhere on the forum... i saw this picture of a tilt back cover, and the speaker was a circle, not a square, and the camera cover looked really nice, it had a metal cover to prevent scratches.

I am wonder if anyone would like to join my project of making a camera friendly back cover for our Kaiser.
I am a product designer in Hong Kong and also a Kaiser user. I know a local factory that produce aftermarket cases for PDAs, to make a back cover is not a hard job at all. All I would like to know is how many Kaiser would like to have this new back cover.

I'd be interested but depends on the quality of the cover of course. Also maybe we could use some really good glass on the rear cover over the camera, such as polarized glass with anti UV and flare coating, any optician should be able to make it, but might work out a little expensive for the glass alone.

you need a photography quality glass for good quality photo. Plus in order to fit in to the original back cover, the glass needed to be really thin, that's another challenge. That's why some people in the forum prefer to take the plastic out.
regarding to the quality, the factory is a very experienced one, a simple back cover is too easy for them. All I worry is the cost and how we can spread them out evenly.
How hard would a "flip" cover be? My previous phone, Sony W810i had no protection for the lens, other than the clear plastic area for the lens. The
K750i had a "flip" cover, which fit the 810i like a glove.
How reasonable would it be, instead of a glass lens, to just produce a cover with a simple flip open or slide cover for the lens? Even with a glass area for the lens, you will still get stains, fingerprints etc.
I'd vote for a rear cover with a slide-open cover over the camera. This would allow the camera to be protected from dust and when open, don't use any additional glass, the pictures would be much sharper!
It would have to be a good design that could withstand repeated open-close cycles.

I agree. The lens glass needs some sort of protection.
Nokia's N-95 puts the lens at the hinge where no one puts their finger. The HTC Kaiser/Tilt is in a very bad spot for fingers and setting it down into junk or against a sweaty (i.e. wet) shirt pocket.
Also, you might need some bumps on the back to raise the phone a bit since they managed to put the speaker on the back which is about as effective as ....
The back cover gets a bit hot at times too. Don't know what can be done about that.

im sure. i know i saw it, but i dont know if it was edited, but it looked pretty real to me.
it looked almost identical to the kaiser's back, except instead of a square speaker, it was circle, and the camera had something better to protect it.
I meant a cover with a glass lens. Its always nice to have 2x times the protection

Have you thought of using the invisible shield? this is cut with perfection, prevents scratches and marks on the device, and has a very accurate cut-out around the GPS and Camera recess.

I am not sure about putting another piece of plastic in front of the camera would be a good idea to improve the quality of the photo.
Anyway, I have contacted the factory about this project, they will let me know the cost in about two days. In the mean time, feel free to throw in new design idea.

when did i say cover the camera? i said it's been cut around it.
I doubt you will find better to be honest. Without looking silly. It looks like new all the tiem with my shield on.

no, I don't think finger nail is a good idea. If space is allowed, I hope to make a sliding door that can be opened by finger instead of finger nail.

The factory replied with a quote but they made a mistake. The quote is for 1000 pieces of battery cover. I don't think we have that many people who would be interested in it, so I ask for a smaller quantity quote. They will get back to me tomorrow.

Hi, under the recommendation of several people, I removed the stock thin film that protected the lens of the back camera. Is there a good way to protect it from scratch? Right now, I am using the SGP Ultra Capsule Series case as shown in the URL.

That's overkill, just buy the Flip Cover, it will add 1mm around your camera lenses.
Since the Device sees the outside world through the Camera , using a layer on the camera will affect the amount of light getting in to camera and hence the quality of the image captured by the device will be low. So using a layer on the camera for protecting it from scratches is not a good option , it will protect the camera from the scratches but it will destroy the sole purpose of the camera. So alternative option will be using a case that can make the camera grooved-in and hence it can give considerable protection as camera surface will be grooved-inside the shell case.Choose the case wisely to get this kind of setup.
The glass covering the camera lens is almost flush with the aluminium border and the plastic back, so when you lay the phone on a flat surface it will almost touch it.
There are very thin cases, that add only 1 mm thickness to the phone and help separate the lens cover from the desk.
I'm trying to use InvisibleShield back proctector, it adheres well to the back cover, after a few days drying it does not seem that it's going to peel-off, and it helps maintaining the camera cover from touching the table.

What you already have is sufficient. Its not that easy to scratch the camera lens, and anything you put in front of it will in some way spoil the quality of your shots. Its not as though there is something available like a UV filter that you would use on an SLR camera. My advise, is just go out and take pictures.
I bought the Real look screen protector from amazon and it comes with 4 tiny screen protector for the back camera. Best imo, but I haven't tried any others

Just out of curiosity, what effect has that had on your picture quality? It shouldn't be that noticeable, if at all, unless its big damage that is. Usually. small scratches cause a 'softening' of the focus, but shouldn't be that apparent, unless your really looking for it. I'm not making excuses for samsung though, and indeed they would probably call it a feature, where your phone will take increasingly romantic soft photographs over time.

Got 3-4 scratches at the edge, so it did not affect picture quality.
I always used to put the phone face-down but still got scratches.

Its about what I expected. I wouldn't worry too much. I have an old clam phone and that is scratched to hell, but the pics don't show any noticeable effects. I know its far from a like for like comparison. Also, we used to scrub uv filters with scotch bright to make our own soft focus filters. You would be amazed at how much 'scratching' we had to do before we started to notice any effect. I know you want to treasure your investment, but I would get on and use it to the full. :good:

Just made a rectangular piece of cheap plastic nd glued another plastic foldable holder for my x play. So now during photo time unfold nd zip down nd den zip up. Easy DIY nd works like a charm...
I know this seems like a strange idea, but are there any cover cases for the LCD? I'm thinking primarily of protecting the LCD from bumps.
Also, I've noticed that setting the camera on a flat surface (powered off), it wants to roll towards the lens. I may add a little sugru kickstand under the lens to help stabilize.

Personally I'm typically against covers and 'armor' for modern mobile devices and especially for this camera. The reason is that in many cases, the chemical glass used for the device is going to be far superior to a cheep cover you put over it. No matter how amazing the protective film is seen to be in the ads. I have put mine through the wringer in the short time I have had it... like my iPhone the screen is crazy difficult to scratch or otherwise mar. Further, any additional layer may create a slightly false representation of colours, brightness and contrast when processing images.
Ultimately, like any camera, I would suggest a good case/pouch more over a screen protector.
I know what you mean about the tipping forward. When mine is not in the pouch and on a flat surface, I typically store mine with the screen down. It's a non-issue.
Does anyone know of a "Camera Lens Protector" that doesn't interfere with flash while recording video and taking pictures?
The builtin factory one... replace if needed.
I've always just got a case that stands tall enough to make sure the camera lens does not come into contact with the surface.

You're jumping the gun. Google it... Samsung can replace it as can repair centers.
If you don't have a good case the display is more likely to get destroyed. I be more concerned with a good case and screen protector, both will most likely be a pain to find for a new model.
I don't even worry about damaging my cam as it's well protected by the case. The only thing I do is not use it as a hand hold as your fingers are more likely to mar it if you touch it. Even my S4+'s factory cam plastic lense protector is not scratched after many years in the desert.

The lens protectors that I did buy was prefect for protecting all three lens and taking pictures and video recording. But as soon as you use the flash for either, the flash glare from the corner of the lens protectors was the problem.

I use the wet apply Gorilla IQ Sheild for my display. "Self healing" urethane that last a long time and stays put. Something like that but with any added layer you increase the refraction index.
Other undesirable things can happen with uncoated and/or poorly placed optical elements like back reflections and flaring.
Who knows maybe Samsung optic engineers really knew what they were doing... don't screw it up.
People want to protect the lense protector... doesn't really make much sense. This isn't a high dollar front lense, it's a piece of ordinary glass or polycarbonate.
Lense protector protectors are a gimmick.
Worry about a good case and screen protector instead because you will need them.
Just wondering the sticky residue from a camera protector would damage the painted surface of the rear cameras on the S21 Ultra?
Jerryrig shows that this painted surface scratches pretty easily and just wondering if using a camera protector is a good idea or not?
Seen several people saying that camera protectors are hard to remove from the Ultra, broke, cracked and damaged the painted area trying to remove.
Have the Whitestone dome ones coming and think I'll hold off installing these.

I was looking at the customer reviews for the LK, ESR, Spigen, and amFilm S21 Ultra camera screen protectors and I did not find anyone complaining about the damaged painted area when removing the protector. Where did you find these comments? I found some complaints about the blurriness of the photos, though.

These things are near impossible to take off. I misplaced mine and wanted to try reapplying a new one. While attempting to take it off it shattered into a million piece by piece, while still being glued onto my camera. Wanted to protect my camera but instead I had it scratched by the shattered protector. Took me over an hour to get it completely off, and by then the damage had already been done BUYER BEWARE
It already has a built in factory lens/camera protector. Nothing else other than a good case with a raised cam module guard is needed.
My 10+ is nearly a year and a half old. I live in a desert town; wind, sand, dust and grit. Zero damage to the plastic factory cam protector.
I use a Zizo Bolt case with a raised cam guard (do not use a case cam hole as a finger grip to take it out of your pocket!).
All I do is avoid touching it except to clean it occasionally with a dry microfiber cloth.
Just keep your fingers* off of it and you'll be fine.
They're replaceable anyway...
*dry finger/palms are abrasive. Enough so as to be able to polish glass. Any grit or sand on your finger can easily mar the surface.
I agree that the amfilm has very, very strong adhesive. It was hard to remove but thankfully it didn't crack and the paint didn't come off.
It caused condensation due to the gap between the protector and the lens glass so I had to take it out. And if you do want a camera protector, make sure the are cutouts for the camera holes. Kinda negates the protector but I suppose that's if you want to protect the metal frame.
I posted in the other thread, but mine shattered because of the adhesive and caused light scratches on the metal.
It's different from past generations since these camera bumps are metal. Old tempered glass adhesive isn't strong enough and they're using stronger stuff.

Possible, I do not know these products.
But as some one else said, the glass itself very probably don't need protection. The aluminium though, yeah.
I plan to get a dbrand skin which is just a sticker that will cover the metal part, and a case as well for when on a trip (remember those?) and such.
In my opinion, that should be enough.
I bought the whitestone protector, didn't think about taking it off...

Thanks! If I understood it right, the scratches on the aluminum camera housing were not caused by the strong glue but by the glass shards (glass is harder than aluminum).
I was thinking to protect just the camera housing with a dbrand camera skin. The black carbon fiber skin looks very nice on the phantom black S21 Ultra. It is also very cheap.
Did anyone have any issue removing dbrand skins from a metal camera housing?
These things are close to difficult to take off. I lost mine and needed to have a go at reapplying another one. While endeavoring to take it off it broke into 1,000,000 piece by piece,if you want while as yet being stuck onto my camera. Needed to safeguard my camera yet rather I had it but if you want to paint the mobile you can also use floor paint to paint the mobile and scratched by the broke defender. Took me more than an hour to get it totally off, and by then the harm had proactively been done Purchaser Be careful....

See my above post. The less you screw around with the builtin factory protector the better off it will be.
