Recovering Data from a Droid4 that won't boot - Motorola Droid 4

My droid4 won't get past the boot screen (red M).
It is stock, never rooted. Took it to VZW and the guy ripped the battery out WITHOUT unscrewing the two screws so not sure if it is creating a short.
I desperately need to recover my contacts and pictures. There was no google account on the phone.
Any ideas?

Data aside for a moment, I'd go back and get ahold of the guy's supervisor. There ought to be some sort of compensation in order following him physically damaging your device out of ignorance for how the battery is attached in certain Motorola devices.

I agree about the compensation for the damage to the phone but right now retrieving my data is top priority.

power off, hold volume down button, power on, it should boot to AP Fastboot cable, if it says low battery
i would try charging it, if it doesn't show charging screen
try
Booting from AP fastboot to charging mode
If the Device will only boot to AP Fastboot and it says Battery Low
Connect the phone/Device ato a Wall Charger (not PC)
-In AP Fastboot Mode hold Volume down& power buttons at the same time for +10 seconds
- When screen goes black...release power button
-Then IMMEDIATELY press and hold Vol - and Vol+ to boot to Boot Menu.
- In Boot Menu scroll down with volume down to BP Tools, press volume up to select
- Device should boot to Charging Mode with battery icon
If Motorola Device will not boot to Charging Mode, a Fastboot cable will be needed.

i tried that its not working, i cant get into bootloader, i have two tilts one that works fine and this one, i can get into bootload on mine but the problem one doesnt get into it, it just shows the att screen and starts up. The hard reset by pressing the soft keys and soft reset doesnt work either
You bought a faulty unit and the buttons are dead?
not knowing, you accidently bought a stolen unit and it is well secured by the former owner? (not just MS)
Hmmmm you cant hard reset? Either your buttons arent working, your phone has a bad block, or you are not performing the hard reset correctly. Hard reset is a base operation of the phone controlled by SPL if im not mistaken. Hey guys... is it also possible his NAND could be corrupt?
Also, just in case, to perform a hard reset, the correct buttons to hold in are these ( Highlighted by a red dot on each ):

Make sure to hold them in tightly as you soft reset
yeap ive been doing that it just starts up normally, its weird, i found a few weird things.
When starting up if you plug in the usb cable it will freeze at the att screen.
when i get into the home screen 15 reminders go off and the annoying att song plays over and over but i can get glimpses of the old owners stuff and then goes to the sim lock screen. If i plug in the usb at this time everything will freeze but itll still play the att song and vibrate and it then shut off after 10 seconds.

Unbrick without Jig?

Hi guys, a friend of mine just bricked his Galaxy (I-9000).
3 button combo for download mode doesn't work.
Screen shows the black screen of death (phone - ! - computer)
Is there any other secret way to reboot in download mode?
Other than build or buy a Jib usb
if it wont reboot in download mode, then no, a jig is required

Try this, worked for me....doesn't seem to work for everyone though.
"Leave Odin Open. Then Plug the USB. While the USB is plugged in and Odin running press and hold volume down + Home + Power. Once the black screen comes release the Power Button. It will get to the download mode"
Worked first time for me.

Button combinations, External UART and Download Mode JIG

Hey guys, I just received a Focus S from Samsung in error. I just put it through my standard high-level hardware hacking routine.

Connect 301Kohms of resistance between USB Pins 4 and 5 (aka 4 and X).
Format Mode
How to get format mode by button combination
Remove the battery
Replace the battery
Hold Camera + Volume Down + Power
Unknown Boot Mode
Remove the battery
Replace the battery
Connect 619Kohms of resistance between USB Pins 4 and 5 (aka 4 and X).
Monitor UART output at 3V, 115200bps, 8n1. RX on USB Pin2 and TX on USB Pin3
Observe the following messages
Code:
AST_POWERON
BOOTING COMPLETED
Here's what I find interesting... These are the same messages observed on the GalaxyS i9100. Also, this boot mode is apparently not accesible by any other means. It is possible that it is a dedicated dual-boot mode without a kernel. It would be worth researching the partition structures.
Now, if Samsung lets me keep this device, I can see what else I can do. I'd like to probe for the internal UART as well. However, this is as far as I can get without tearing the device apart. I hope this helps in the quest for Android on the Samsung Focus.
I'm sorry about my stupid question.
But what does the Download Mode:::: i really don't know

I domt know... samsung asked for the device back. On GalaxyS devices, you use the tool Odin3 to load firmware through download mode.

[Q] Water damage + broken screen Nexus 6

Hi everyone.
I hope that you are enjoying using your phone
Recently, 1st the water have reached my phone. Fortunately, the phone is still working perfectly. After maybe 2 hours of the water accident it start pressing "power button" automatically and then restarting several times. It run out of battery then I've tried to turn it on using "Power button" it was not working. Any way, somehow it turned ON !!. Therefore, I've installed an app to use volume up instead of the power button.
However, 2nd thing it fall down and I got the screen broken, the phone still working but after that, it run out of battery and it has never back live again. nothing appears if I click volume up or down not even the battery logo.
What I notice is that, for the first time I've seen the green led lamp notification in my Nexus 6. Find attached a picture.

First of all, the worst thing you can do after water damage, is to turn the phone on. I strongly suggest turning it off, and taking it to a repair center immediately. It needs to be placed in a dehydration oven and then inspected and cleaned by a tech. Water damage is serious and the effects can continue to arise after the initial penetration. Circuits can continue to short out and corrosion will form unless properly cleaned.

Most likely, however, after rereading your post, the phone is already fried and you would need a new motherboard or complete replacement.

Best thing to do with water damage is to turn off the phone ASAP and let the phone dry in a bowl of uncooked rice for about 2 days.

HELP! I've hardbricked my mi 5 :(

Hi all
I have managed to hardbrick my phone without even trying to flash it.
I have a white 128gb Mi 5 with an unlocked bootloader and (i think) running Cyanogenmod13 (but it was such a long time ago that i installed it - before global stable was out) I've always been happy with it but kept meaning to sit down and put global on it, but havent gotten around to it.
Yesterday i was using my phone, put it in my handbag, took it out ten mins later and it was completely dead. But it was definitely at 100% charge at the time as i had it plugged in on the train. No leds, no response, no screen, not recognised by computer or anything.
There have been a few instances when i pulled my phone out of my bag and the fastboot screen has been up and luckily i've cancelled it. I've been doing a bit of research and i'm pretty sure that i somehow managed to enter fastboot mode in my bag by accident and then corrupt it somehow?
I've been playing about a bit with it. (it's still under warranty, but I can't send it back, because it's got an unofficial rom on it)
I've managed to get it to be recognised on my laptop now by following a video tutorial which i'm not able to post because this is my first post, but it's from choimobile,vn and just in case anyone wants to know which steps i've made it to, this is the rest of the address, /threads/unbrick-xiaomi-mi5-repair-boot-xiaomi-mi5-hardbrick-pc-not-detected.
But i've reached a point that i can't go any further. In all the guides i've read, people talk about the pc recognising the phone as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 but mine doesn't. It just recognises it as "android" so then flashing with miflash doesn't work.
Does anyone know what else i can do? I'm a noob at this so if you could keep the explanations simple, that would be great!
Thanks
Angelina
Forgot to add... phone still connects to my computer fine, i can still see everything and can access the internal memory.

I'm pretty sure you can't actually do any damage in fastboot without being connected to a PC.
You say your pc detects your phone storage fine so that means it's either booted or in recovery. Either way, you should have some kind of display being shown so it sounds like your screen is broken.
Do you know what recovery you have installed? I'd advise you try to reboot into it (power off -> hold power and volume up) or boot into fastboot and flash twrp recovery.
If your screen never changes from off after restarting, it's likely the screen that's the issue.

Hmm, OK that's strange, i've not done anything that would break it, especially in that short period of time. But I guess it could be a loose connection or something. Although that wouldn't explain why there are no leds or why it doesn't respond to being charged? if it was a broken screen, everything else would work fine.
I could only see it on my pc after taking it apart, disconnecting the battery and using tweezers to connect 2 points on the internal board like in the video above. If i disconnect it, then plug it in again, it's not recognised until i use the tweezers on the two points again.
I've tried to reboot it and get into fastboot again, but it definitely isn't responding.
Thanks
hmm have you tried plugging it to power source then hold power button like one min..?
because last week my phone was just dead, and doesn't respond to anything, though it's slightly different because mine stuck forever at 9008 mode, yet still stuck there even though i flashed new rom
the only cure to wake it up was to attach to charger then holding power button for one minute
or you can try using DFC cable to force into EDL mode
Hiya!
Yes i've tried various combinations of holding different buttons whilst fully charged/discharging/connecting to computer via the test point etc
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Unfortunately, the DFC cable won't work, as that is what i've done with the test point method. It will allow me to connect the phone to the computer but that's as far as it gets.
Bumping this in the hope that someone may have an answer.
Your phone was dead because your power button kept pressing accidentally for a long time as you kept it in your bag, i too have the same problem and I showed it in service center but no luck they suggested me to change the motherboard...
