Storing photos on external sdcard by default - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a method to store photos/videos on the external sdcard by default? I've got a rooted i9295 running a recent Cyanogenmod nightly.
Possibly there is there a camera application that allows setting the default storage location for photos. Something I'm missing here? TIA.

Yes, swipe right in camera - press settings cog wheel.

Once you change it, it remains that way until you change it back.

I use open camera, because cyanogens camera did not have that option before.
I deleted the default camera, how can i get it back?

List of features removed in JB

It may be a good idea to list them in one place. For sure it would help me decide if I want to upgrade or not. If there is a list already let me know and I will delete the thread.
Updated list:
- Overscan option in Settings -> Display
- Selection of audio output device when HDMI is connected
- Mass Storage option in USB computer connection
- Live Icons
- Sleep Mode option in Power Menu
- Timer
- Move to SD card in Settings -> Storage -> Manage Internal Storage
- Google Play Music Widget on the lock screen
- Music option for Alarm Sound
I'm not sure how to put it more concisely, but the context menus that come up when you swipe over certain icons (Calendar, Browser, etc.) are disabled.
No sleep mode on power menu. Anyone notice better camera quality?

i did it myself!
Mass storage setting is definitely gone. That sucks. And I don't notice any improvement in the camera.

No more timer, it's just alarms now. I used the timer daily...
Camera's no better, and if I'm not mistaken, aren't we supposed to have photosphere? Or is that 4.2 functionality?

Here's the clock app from CM10. It has the timers and countdown. Back up and delete your deskclock.apk and odex file and replace with this.

What is the reason for removing mass storage? I can't see all the files in my internal SD anymore in only media mode :/ I know there are PC and Play Store file managers but mass storage was pretty convenient.

Google removed it from the OS. I think that was done in ICS, but Motorola put it back. Motorola is evaluating the items removed for possible inclusion in a future update.

Camera is better in low light, much much better low light photos.

Coming a Lumia 920, nothing else on the market comes close to actually giving you good low light photos without a lot of noise. I know the premium suite upgrade on the Galaxy S 3 allegedly gives you better low light shots but that's a bit of a stretch.

My Atrix HD (running JB) has the Google Play Music widget on the lockscreen. (See screenshot below)
Also, I use MTP and it shows up on my computer just like Mass Storage did. Giving me options to acces Internal Storage and the SD Card and allows me to move files.

Just simple paranoia. lol I thought the same thing at first. But yes, unplugging the usb cable safely removes it from your computer. It will not do any long term damage.

I'm interested in the answer to this and also whether or not you can change the default gallery app when you swipe to the left (I would rather use Quick Pic).

What are you using to move them? Is this just on stock ROM? Are you rooted? More details, please.

Ok so you're not using an app designed specifically for moving other apps/etc to your SD then. With that being the case you'll need to be very careful in where you're pulling the data from if you expect it to continue functioning as it used to.
You mentioned initially that your moved pictures and videos still show up in the app drawer but are greyed out and say not installed....this is a bit confusing as pictures and videos are usually just single file images or single file video clips and would not ever actually show up in the app drawer and are instead accessed via an app from the app drawer like Gallery or Google Photos, etc. Generally speaking, the apps themselves are usually much smaller than the total amount of space taken up by your videos or (if you have a lot) pictures....you don't even need that many pictures to start adding up to a respectable size if they are all High Quality images.
So, I would recommend you attempt to undo the moves you've made thus far (though if you can't get the apps to show back up as normal then just reinstall them then clean your SD card and internal memory with a junk cleaner) and focus solely on ".img, .png, .mov, .mp3, .gif, .jpeg, .mp4" or any other similarly formatted files if you're doing the moves freely with a root explorer like ES.
If you really want to move your apps over, or at least some of them, try using an app specifically designed for that purpose as this will hopefully ensure they continue to function after the move.....If you're on the stock ROM you should be able to move the apps just by going to Settings > Storage I think or Settings > Apps. One of those two (pretty sure it's storage but I'm on AOSP rom atm so can't check sry) and then click on one of your apps you should get options to Force Quit, Clear Cache, Clear Data then below those you should see a Move to SD option.
Hope this helps! Let me know if I wasn't clear enough or you have further questions^^
No you were very clear I wasn't clear when I said the pictures and videos in the app drawer I should have said from the gallery they where showing up as an empty space Now I believe my card was just going corrupt because it's corrupted now

i have this issue as well. When i transfer files like pictures and music from my internal to my external it says its transferred which is cool but when i reboot the device the files are gone. I have tried the sd card fix apps in the play store and it says its fixed but obviously not. It wont let me format either on the computer or on the phone or it says it does but it actually doesnt. So i have lost all hope on what to do i dont want to buy another card if this is going to happen to it.

Open Camera Works On MM

For anybody wanting more options than the stock camera, Open Camera works with all the bells and whistles. Happy shutterbuggin.

Well, true, it doesn't work properly,
however,
if you select under settings:
Settings/More camera controls/"Use Storage Access Framework"
and afterwards pick your sdcard location,
the pictures you take are stored to the sdcard....
unfortunately....the gallery won't display them until after the phone is rebooted.
Strange stuff.
You can look at the pics right away inside a file manager though... (annoying..yes)
Do any of the Camera2.api type settings work?

I just came in here to see if anybody else was having this problem with Open Camera. Seems to be a problem with the media scanner. Using a media scanning app is a temporary workaround but not ideal.

P20 Pro cannot access the camera photos in Gallery

Hi,
All of a sudden, I'm unable to access all my photos under the Gallery. I can still see they are still present when I access Files. When I take a picture with my camera, I can scroll on the previous photos under the Camera (thru the little icon on the bottom left hand corner). However when I try to access the last taken photo via Gallery, it's not there at all... I can't find any thread on the net on this problem. I hardboot the phone a couple of times but it does not work. Anyone can help on this please ?
Thanks in advance

Tried several time but to no avail.
Photos received from Whatsapp are in the gallery but not the rest
Just a general question: Do you access the camera through the locked screen with the little icon bottom right? Then you can only access the pictures you have just taken, to prevent strangers looking through your pics. If you access the camera through the icon when the display is unlocked, you should be able to see ALL your photos in the gallery.
To be more precise : Under the Gallery app, the Camera folder is completely gone with all the photos inside (videos too). When I take a photo, it does not appear anywhere in the Gallery app (maybe because there is no Camera folder)
Clear the cache/force stop the gallery app.
This happened to me but a restart fixed it.

I have this exact same problem. It happened as i was fiddling around with the "hide album" feature on a different folder. Camera folder has completely disappeared from gallery app.
[edit] [solved] i was able to go into the files app and clear cache from the options at the bottom. Camera folder appeared again. Huawei p20 pro android 8.1.0

Hi,
I tried what you suggested :
Files app - click on the 3 vertical dots and the top right hand corner - clear cache
The photos still do not appear on the Camera app. FYI my Camera app did not disappear - only the photos taken with the camera.
I had to use a 3rd party Gallery App. Just have to bear with the ads.
only problem i have after messing with hide albums is that i cant see the RAW file no more in the gallery.

Try now going to main gallery list. Select "more" with three dots and choose hidden. If camera is selected, deselect it.

Yes it worked ! All the photos and videos are back ! Thanks a lot !
How did I unwittingly hide the camera album ... Anyway I purposely attempted to hide it again but I cannot see it on the list anymore.... it does not appear all the time. I had let the phone go into standby mode and "wake it" to see the camera album reappears.
Try this
go to Settings/ Application Manager/ All/ Media Storage and then delete the cache, clear data, force stop, and then turn it off and on. After that just restart and check your gallery.
