Samsung Wireless Charger much more reliable after today's AT&T OTA push - Galaxy Note5 Accessories

Before I had just a heck of a time keeping this thing charging (solid blue). It seemed 90% of the time, it'd switch over to flashing blue after a few minutes. It seemed a lot of people had this problem, so I processed a return on Amazon. Looking around, I saw lots of people who had the same problems with the new larger Samsung phones (Edge 6S+, Note 5) so I figured it was just a universal problem. However, for every couple dozen of complaints, I always did see one comment on how the wireless charger didn't work for them until they got a carrier update, but I kind of just brushed those comments off as outliers among a greater trend.
But today, AT&T pushed an OTA update out and after downloading it, it's a complete reversal for me. I keep picking it up and putting it down and it stays charging each time. So I'm wondering if anyone else who has had problems with their Samsung wireless charger has seen a change after a carrier update?

So far im seeing increased reliability as well. Any idea what actually was in the update?

Damn if that is true, then I am going to regret returning mine. Though I am on Verizon.

Red LED of Death in other than AT&T?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I'm on my second Tilt, after the first one suffered from unrecoverable lockup -- the dreaded Red LED of Death that several others over at the AT&T forum have talked about. Is this issue limited to AT&T branded phones? I'm wondering if there's something peculiar about the AT&T ROM or bloatware, and whether if I get rid of it I can head off this problem at the pass. I don't want to have to deal with it again.
If this has already been covered elsewhere, can someone point me to the answer?
Yes it was the charger that caused the power supply chip to fry.
If you have the fatter, vertical charger, request and exchange for a slimmer, horizontal charger, the newer one.

do we have proof of this? or just speculation? because i remember it was talked about, but even those with different kinds of chargers experienced this.
Just found the relevant thread, but thanks for your answer! I guess I'll be charging from my computer's USB port... I don't know if I can talk to AT&T store into replacing my charger without proof.

i'm gonna say its bs, cause i have that exact fat vertical charger for my 8525, been using that for a year, no probs.
yeah it is BS, there is no evidence as to why this is occurring...
i got my first red light with a htc branded kaiser, when i ran pocket mechanic file cleanup. Apparently it drained alot of power in 5 minutes then red light came. I was able to start the kaiser but it turns off after a few seconds. I somehow managed to save it thru playing with the charger(lucky me!)
I don't think the rlod means anything is "fried", I too resurrected my phone by playing around with it. It does seem to be a problem with the power management circuit, but there is no proof of a certain charger causing the problem. People have gotten the rlod using both htc chargers. If you turn the phone on without a battery, you get a rlod. I think the problem lies within the phone not realizing that there is a battery installed. I was playing with the battery contacts when i resurrected mine. I'm fairly confident that a fix for this problem is on the way. It would be more productive if people would do some tinkering once they get the rlod, instead of deeming it a brick and returning it without even trying to fix it. These assumptions that a rlod phone is a brick are counter-productive, and they arise from somebody lazily jumping to conclusions without doing any research.
Besides plugging and unplugging the various doohickies that come with the Tilt, and trying soft and hard resets, what does "playing around" entail? 'Cuz I thought I had covered all the permutations, before I decided I'd let the AT&T store deal with it.
It'd be cool to know what worked for you guys, before it happens again.
Red LED of Death - don't know why, but . . .

RLOD happened to me one week ago on my Tilt - got replacement 3 days ago. Certainly the RLOD didn't have anything to do with the bloatware because I Hard-SPL'ed and flashed a custom ROM on day 1 of ownership.
I do think that what chargers are used might be an issue - because I didn't always use the one that came with the unit - I used my old Wizard charger, aftermarket car charger, aftermarket wall plug charger, etc - with mA rating varying from 550 to 1000
Regarding the Tilt Red Light of Death (RLOD), read this for a fix that's worked for me and many others:

Mine was AT&T.
Regarding the power management circuit, absolutely seems to be a bug.
Good luck!

Official Samsung Galaxy Note 3 S-View Wireless Charging Cover (Where to buy?))

So I have seen all the posts for the cases but can't seem to find anywhere in the US that has any info on when they will be available. I know last year when I got my N2 the folio cases were available in the store that day. I called a few ATT stores and all they have is the incipio case that doesn't offer wireless charging. Does anyone have any info on these Samsung brand cases?
This site shows them "due in 2-3 weeks" http://www.mobilefun.com/40790-offi...-3-s-view-wireless-charging-cover---black.htm
No luck my friend I can't find it either. I don't think I've seen such a premature phone release when it comes to accessories for this phone.

Yeah I'm really disappointed with the lack of accessories! I don't want to buy a regular case and then turn around and purchase a wireless charging case 2-3 weeks later.... Ended up selling my AT&T Note 3 in favor of the T-mo n900t, already running a custom rom and on att lte
I'm sorta miffed, too. I think they want to see how the phone will do before they start churning out accessories. I can't figure out why they don't add features without changing the form factor, at least as far as legacy compatibility is concerned.
I ordered a $4 TPU case and a Skinomi (wet application) screen protector. I like to have a cheap (or just durable) backup case option for camping, and for the possibility of getting a new device under insurance because of theft or total destruction. But still, this is a lot of weeks to be waiting for a feature included on their previous release. And for the time being: this (as of 10 Oct, 2013) http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Qi-Wireless-charging-Receiver-Charger-Adapter-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3-III-/321228364804?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item4acab3dc04
tell me about it, im waiting for the protective cover+
I ordered wireless charging kit here (presumably shipped, but I didn't get it yet):

Also, I saw S-view flip covers at BestBuy in Toronto. They look very nice...

only much easier without having to tap into the USB port. I got two for my "old" S3 for about US$12 each. If my measurements are right, I'm just going to snip the space between the two contacts and stick it in sideways on the Note3 battery, slightly too high, but not enough to let the coils be too off. I usually don't post my hacks, but if this one works and does it before anything gets released, or if everything released is still as expensive as it is now, I might.

So, really essentially, inductive charging is spinning magnets hopping up a copper coil so much it sends the extra energy into the battery as an electrical charge (I imagine with some other metals it might've been heat). Hopefully the coil doesn't have to be too precisely placed to get enough charge.
I'm seriously thinking about investing in Neodymium mining.
I aslo went to the Tmo store today. It's a little one. They had one S-View cover without inductive charging for US$60. The guy, who had one (no Qi) on his new Note3, indicated on a spreadsheet on the "register" screen that the inductive charging ones will be $70 only at the Sammy (Tmo has dedicated Samsung centers)) stores, and I only saw black (BLK).
I really want to see what color the "red" one is. I saw it listed as "pink" somewhere, but I imagine they might have had it mixed up with the light pink (more of a dirt-magnet than the white IMHO) because a lot of the photos of them look rather pinkish or maroonish. I've seen a couple of shots of branded flip covers that look really (really) red, some that look almost brick, and of course a bunch I might call magenta only because I think it's a word to describe a color without another descriptor (that Tmo borrowed because actually calling it what it is, Hot Pink, completely alienates about 50% of its clientele).
Anyone see any color out there?

yes you could but the s view functions wouldnt work with the 2 pin receivers and i dont know if it will even work with the 3 pin receivers.
please note that the n3 has 3 ins at the back near the wireless charging and 2 for nfc but of the 3 pins only top 2 are for wireless charging and the third is for s view functions colour changing of screen etc as far as my info goes.
will let you know in a few days as i have orders pending delivery for official and generic types and will test them out with several of my wireless chargers. my orders have been delayed 2-3 times already and dont know when they will come as have placed them a while back. it doesnt seem to be in stock anywhere.
You are correct.
You are correct i got one of the stickers and a wireless charger and have the regular s-view case and the case no longer works, im wondering if i can somehow solder the contacts togeter without messing it up but for 11 bucks the wireless charging does work pretty well. Through the galaxy charge app im getting around 650 not the 1800 i would get from the 3.0. However i dont have to worry about plugging it in or messing up my port now. will keep you informed.

So the foil trick did not work, or at least i could not get it to work as the foil yanked off one of the contacts on the charger. It looks like the sview uses the bottom two and the charger uses the top two. I sometimes wish i never watched macgyver as a kid. But it still works just no sview functions but i really didnt use it much anyways as you are stuck with stock samsung music apps.

Retitled. How to hose your phone in 35 easy steps. :)

To be fair to HTC/Sprint I retitled this. As the phone is not representative of a normal M8 (either by hardware or corrupted/miss programming).
Long story.
If you want the short version, "This phone sucks" (and by the way so does the S5).
Here is the long version.
Bought the phone first day.
HTC Unlocked and Rooted it as soon at it was available. Applied S-OFF as soon as it was available.
I had not much time to play with it and stayed on Stock and have WIFI on full time which is used at work and home.
Couple days ago I decided to try some ROMs (being very patient for things to mature a bit). I tried Barebones, pretty good ROM. Note I had "dirty flashed it".
Then I took my first long trip since I got the phone. 100 miles into the boonies.
It popped up "Roaming Guard every 2 minutes", every call. But it was still running ok.
I had forgot to shut the roaming guard off (or it was locked out by the time I though of it).
This is a known issue and happened on M7as well. Most reliable way to deal with it, is to full wipe in order to disable it. (I tried all the tricks).
Well at this time OMJ released his "Harman" ROM and Firmware.
Well I guess it's a good time to start clean, wipe and switch to OMJ's Harmon ROM (and firmware) (whom I've been a loyal customer of)
So this stupid Roaming Guard thing keeps coming and going as I sort out which ROM I want, restoring things with TB etc.
But now, my phone is "stuck is 1X". WTF. And if it does occasionally show 3G as soon as I use it, it drops out completely or reverts to 1X.
So now I think I hosed something really bad. Can't get 3G at home or work. My wifes HTC One M7 is fine (running OMJ's BadBoys ROM)
Updated Profiles, played with PRL's.
So I put it all back to factory (except S-ON) and used the HBOOT that hides that's it's S-OFF.
And flashed the closest Stock ROM I could find (which so happened to get no Data or Voice at all). Perfect !!
Then took it to sprint store, and it was a sharp kid and he said it was rooted and nicely handed it back. He suggested I add T.E.P. and "try again".
Well I figured I'll have to S-ON it. And stopped in another store to added T.E.P. just in case. I had like 2 days left.
So I was gonna go home S-ON it and go to another Sprint "repair" Store but decided I really needed to get to some other commitments.
So I restored a backup and on the road and the phone was back to "Normal" except for the stupid Roaming Guard thing. WTF.
Then it hit me. The new ROM from OMJ was telling me what my REAL network was doing and the stock ROM was lying through it's teeth.
I'm well aware of Developer ROM's displaying "1x" when it sees 1x but after being on the stock ROM (with WIFI on), I kind of forgot about it.
And I was never clear what the "New" Spark Icons were really saying anyway (with WIFI ON or OFF).
So the truth is this thing has been running like crap since day 1. And I believe even worse since the first OTA firmware update.
I started researching options to get the Galaxy S5. Turns out the reviews are worse on the S5 than the M8.
Then I kept finding threads like this one.
https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/155517
Maybe I have a bad phone. Maybe I'll just smash the thing and try another one.
I miss my M7. Luckily my wife has it.
I had to get my first M8 replaced because it was roaming all the time. My second one is much better . Sounds like you have a bad one like my first one. I returned mine within the first 14 days to get a no-questions-asked replacement for full refund.
Uhh.. No problems here. Sounds like a defective device to me. They won't swap it where you rooted it, TEP will cost you a deductible and they'll send you a refurbished model. Shouldn't of rooted so quickly.

I don't understand if u don't want the roaming guard to sound just uncheck it on the settings. Not so easy to shut Roaming Guard off. I'll bet if most people look right now, You'd find it greyed out.
I just completely wiped my phone again. Ran RUU on it. Immediately Disabled the Guard. And a half hour later it's all locked out again (but it's locked out disabled).
I don't know what causes it to lock.
But you do have to do it immediately after a wipe.
I'll check out the Options #*# option you suggested. Thanks. I remember that being mentioned before.

I tend to root as soon as it's available. In case an OTA comes out and lose the ability to ever do it. I also like to see if I can root it with in the 14 days, because if something does go wrong I can swap it. I can make it factory looking again. I just didn't want to bother in case they could fix it, because it felt like just a programming issue. I knew I was taking a chance when I brought it in like that. I've brought in MUCH more hacked phones and walked out with a brand new one, with no T.E.P.
I'm still not sure if this is a "Broken" phone. It definitely won't pull in weak 3G like my M7 did.

Fwiw, I've never seen my roaming guard settings greyed out.
As a sprint tech I can tell you 100% of the M8's that have come in to my store that I've replaced have been better the second time around. Seems like there were some lemons in the first batch. You'd better take it in to get exchanged or break it to get a replacement soon(lol) because as of today we were ordering new replacements, soon it'll be refurbs once there is stock in the warehouse.
I also noticed the serial number on my original M8 started with FA, while my current one starts with HT. Could be that ones from a specific location were bad.
There is problem in this phone. I don't think why you face this type of problem?

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I won't have to "break it". I never have, but I would if it came down to it.
I was thinking that they are not refurbished yet as well.
I'm not convinced 100% it's broken yet.
I did notice in a breakdown of the phone, that they do have little spring loaded contacts to the Antenna's, which have been a problem on past phones. And that might be all it is.
I have $18.00 glass screen installed on it as well. And it's installed PERFECTLY. Chances of that happening again are slim
I really would like to get this phone to work.
That thread I posted, folks got second phones and still had issues.
I think it has to do with this whole Spark thing.
You know I wouldn't be rooting and wanting the option of Roam only etc. if the Sprint Network wasn't so bad in the first place.
The only thing that keeps me is the SERO plan. But that is wearing thin. Everyone of my co-workers gets 10-40x faster data rates than I do.
AT&T or Verizon.
Sprint better get their act together.
Oh and the store I did go to. They just fired all their Techs 3 weeks ago. It used to be a good store to go to.

Fwiw, I've never seen my roaming guard settings greyed out.

Me neither.
Should definitely look into getting it replaced, though.

I also noticed the serial number on my original M8 started with FA, while my current one starts with HT. Could be that ones from a specific location were bad.

My M8's serial number starts with FA and so far, the only real issues I've had are sending/receiving texts at home. Sometimes, they come in delayed but I attribute that to the network moreso than the phone. Though, updating the profile/prl seems to fix it. Forcing the phone to re-provision while on CDMA rather than LTE seems to also keep it from happening sooner.

Yeah lucky for me I dont work at a corporate store lol. They did a mass layoff of techs in corporate stores.
No problems here either

I'm curious now if my phone is bad or its network related. I seem to drop/miss calls quite often. I just checked my serial number and it starts with FA as well.
I'm wondering if these phones were all built in different locations. I have a gold one from best buy and this thing works like a champ. I get similar cell signal compared to my s3. Even at my in laws house which just got lte a few months back and my brother in laws house where I get no signal on my s3, it acted the same with no signal. He lives in a secluded area. I'm reading a lot of negative things about phones bought thru Sprint being problematic. Haven't read anything about the gold best buy phones acting up. What do you all think could these phones be built in totally different locations?

Maybe not different locations, but definitely different batches. Some could have subpar antennas.
I believe the serial number indicates the distribution center from which the device was produced. I saw mention of it in the Firewater thread when people were trying to figure out why it worked on some devices and not on others.
Serial number for my phone started with FA. Ordered it after watching the unveiling, got it two days later.
Haven't had a single problem with the phone as far as software, and no hardware issues like defects.
Guess I'm just lucky.
Knock in wood taking the firmware update on H/K ROM doesn't change things down the line.

I have a gold one as well and also see none of these issues. It also seems to be comparable to my S3's reception.

New Sprint Update Today?

Received a notification of a fw update today on my Sprint Note 8. Anyone else get it and maybe know what all it contains?
Camera app improvements, and a KRACK fix. That's why it's small.
I got it today as well. Didn't take it yet. I hate this phone. My service was crappy before, now it's at an all-time high with this piece of garbage. Sprint said I can return it but my rear camera glass is broke. Will they still take it back?

Really? I love my Note8. By far the best phone I've ever had. Sprint cell signal has always been good where I am, and I'm almost always on WiFi anyway.
Got the Sprint OTA update N950USQU2BQJB a few days ago here in California which carried a security patch and Google Play Services update version 11.7.46 which has been terrible on my battery and particularly Pixel XL & OnePlus users as well as other devices according to online reports.
Have you updated to these versions and seen a dip In your battery life like many others have? And If so, have you seen a any difference in performance after updating your device with this last security patch update 'N950USQS2BQK3' rolled out by Sprint today (12/04/17) ?
Will this update 'N950USQS2BQK3' fix the issue of battery drain Sprint users have been experiencing in the past several weeks?
Thanks everyone.

I'm between Baltimore and Washington DC. You would think an area so densely populated would have better service to accommodate the demand. We use a family locator app which was very good on our old phones (Note5 and S6). Now, I get an alert 20 minutes after someone arrives or leaves home.
Fortunately my employer supplies my with an iPad with date service thru Verizon

SAME!!!! Im SO mad at myself for breaking down and getting this horrible phone because of the 50% off promotion and not getting the LG V30 which I originally wanted but had a hard time justifying $38 a month for it being a single mother of two kids on a very tight budget. This phone is CRAP. I talked to sprint last week, talked to 3 different agents and basically was told since I was out of my 14 day window to deal with it. I HATE Sprint just as much as I hate the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 on the Sprint Network. Apps constantly go into a locked spinning like Facebook and I have to force stop apps atleast 20 times a day. Calls dont come through. I constantly keep receiving a text stating "Messenger's enhanced features have been enabled" (Confirmation ID: different evertime) ....I get this text msg anwhere from 5-10 times a day. Ive had done everything the forums have suggested to fix my problems and NOTHING has worked. I have reprogrammed and factory reset and just doesnt get any better! Im beyond frustrated with paying for basically a brick with crappy service!!!
You folks have gotten some pretty nasty lemons. My Note8 has been 100% problem-free. And it's one of the first off the line, since I pre-ordered.
FWIW, I have had problems with calls and messages on Sprint in the past with other phones, and it was a problem at Sprint. I called customer service/technical support, they fixed something at their end, and everything worked after that. I don't know if that's what you're experiencing, but that's just a FWIW.
Mine has been problem free as well aside from one hiccup after a BD update. Other than that it has been flawless.

Well that sucks . I've had it since a week before launch and the N8 is amazing. No lag problems, no service problems. First phone with android in 7 yrs I haven't rooted .

Any thoughts on when the Oreo update is to drop?

Fixable? Sell for Parts? Galaxy Note 8 (AT&T)

I've had this phone since just a few months after it first came out. As you can see from the pictures in the link at the bottom, that's a problem. Funny thing is, it was like that for several months, never bothered me really because I always had my case on, it also didn't seem to affect anything.
So, a couple days ago, thinking because of its age and everything, I got fed up with the somewhat laggy behavior and battery draining issues. So I researched for a couple hours or so and contemplated getting the Galxy Note 10+. Well, after a while I stopped looking into it, I figured I could wait a little bit longer, but just as I set the idea aside, my note 8 started acting up. Battery started draining unusually quick (or appeared to) and also randomly got inaccurate readings for available battery life, screen started to turn off, seemed to be random, and only way to get it back on would be to plug it into a charger and do a forced restart. But, for the most part, the phone works, you could go several minutes to a couple hours without issue.
Since I couldn't trust this thing anymore, I went to the AT&T store for my note 10+, was hoping to get a decent trade in credit, but the rep helping me told me this is something that happens when the battery ends up expanding?, she asked another rep to see if it's acceptable, told me they'd give me like $36 for it, I said forget it and kept it.
Anyone know if all it really would be is the battery? Am I better off selling it for Parts? Or is it possibly a not so hard fix with replacement parts?
