[MOD]ENABLE ZIP BOOTANIMATION w/AROMA BOOT/SHUTDOWN ANIMATION / BOOT LOGO [MAY.15] - Galaxy S6 Themes and Apps

I finally made the time to put together an Aroma of a handful of my own creations along with some of my favorites! You will have the ability to enable custom Boot Animations for those running stock Roms. This mod will also install the ever so difficult to create "qmg" shutdowns! For the people running the newest Missing Link, you've seen most, but not all of what is here. Added a couple of boots and shutdowns.
New version added support to many newer Samsung devices running MM Only!
CONFIRMED SUPPORTED DEVICES
Galaxy S6
Galaxy S6 Edge
Galaxy S7
Galaxy S7 Edge
Note 4
Note 5
Note 7
AROMA BOOT/SHUTDOWN ANIMATION PICKER!! OVER 40 BOOT, 26 SHUTDOWN ANIMATIONS and 45 BOOT SPLASH IMAGES TO PICK FROM
The mod enables the use of "Custom ZIP" animations instead of the QMG animations giving you a much larger selection, even beyond this mod!! If you want to go back to QMG animations, simply just use a file manager with root access and navigate to system/media and delete the "bootanimation.zip" then reboot. Done, you will be back to the original QMG bootanimation your rom had prior to running this mod. Enjoy!!

THE QUICK GUIDE TO CREATING YOUR OWN BOOT ANIMATIONS"because I can feed you fish and you're good for the night or teach you to fish and you'll be good forever!!"
I have enjoyed boot animations since I started messing around with phones. I finally felt comfortable enough to start making my own and this is how i did it:
1 - First is you need an animation such as a video clip or gif whatever. I personally like them to be less than 30 seconds with the main focal part about 10 secs. By that time the phone has started up.
2 - then you need to extract the frames/convert using infanview or similar app, to image format, jpg is smaller, png is better quality and some just plain look better this way. Using Irfanview in the "options" menu click "extract all frames" then you can fine tune using "file" menu "batch conversion/rename" option
3 - download Boot Animation Factory and thank the dev for such a great tool for previewing and creating Boot Animations. From there the app will take you to creating the bootanimation.zip file needed for your phone.
4 - Then it's just a matter of getting it to where it needs to be. You can check my thread here which gives all the the different locations for various phones store the file for manual installs. There is also the "flashable zips" and "the Aroma Installer" for multiple options!
5 - last thing is to give thanks and credit where it's due and share your wonderful new creations with all of us here on XDA!!! Thank you
that is a very quick run down of how I am making Boot Animations today
*****BOOT ANIMATIONS PREVIEWS*****
This is set of boot animations I have either created or collected from all creative minds here at XDA.
The flashable zips are confirmed ONLY for Sprint's (Galaxy S2) E4GT right now!! testers welcome? Should be compatible with Samsung device's that use "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" files stored in /system/media. Just get the flashable.zip files here and flash via recovery
This link will get you to my original post with directions for installs, downloads for previews, bootanimation.zip files and flashable zips (these are made to support Samsung qmg bootanimation)
Direct downloads here for manual install of bootanimation.zip file
Previews here
Flashable zips here
These are made to support Samsung "qmg" bootanimations, specifically for the device I am on E4GT (Sprint's S2). IT'S UNTESTED ON ANY OTHER PHONES!! IF ANYONE WITH A SAMSUNG PHONE THAT HAS THE "QMG" LOCKED BOOT WOULD TEST LET ME KNOW THAT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.
I have to thank all of the XDA community for these animation and support over the years!!! Please enjoy

Thanks for this! Any chance of a Android 6.0 boot animation?

Hi mate. Cool app. I have tried 2 of these bootanimations and none of them work. Shutdowns work fine. Any ideas?
Edit: nevermind reflashed an works fine. Thanks pal

Downloading right now after seeing the first logo...
lol! had to have this.
Thanks a bunch!
EDIT:
my device froze the first two times browsing the boot animations screen..
tried again and it worked.
The "Matrix" boot logo didn't work for me, still showed the OEM logo while the shutdown worked fine.
I'm using the Droid scan now for i can't find the "Apple smash" one (the one i wanted in the first place!), am i blind?
Nice work, anyway!

Ughhhhhh damn Sprint!!! Any chance to be supported in the future?

lookingbforward for android 6 bootanimation.. thanks...

Dear friends,
I've done a single installer for Android 6 bootanimation. Please note shutdown animation is not included.
This has been done by :
- Taking bootanimation binary files from this MOD,
- Taking LGG4 bootanimation zip,
- Building a simple CWM installer with those file.
Unfortunatly, if I understood, shutdown animation is still qmg file based ? That means it's harder to find proper animation for shutdown : the one I found is bigger than original and the animation is not as smooth.
To try it :
http://www.mediafire.com/download/9kbax3u69pnej4a/bootanimation-flashable.zip

@stangdriver44 good job finding these files and putting this together for people to have the zips working. I'm going to make a thread of my own to share my original work of boot animations I've made. I'm going to snag those 3 bin files that you used and of course I'll give you a nice shout out for the find and link this thread too.
Cheers man and again good job

Great animations! Thanks @stangdriver44

Thanks for this great feature!
Am i doing something wrong if the animations are all a little blurry? or is that just how they are? I mean, the resolution seems to be wrong for the screen
Anyways, great work man!

You've done nothing wrong my friend. You are correct that the resolution of the some of the animation was originally set for older devices with less resolution. In time I can probably re-image them individually, but this will take some time, especially because I have active ROM and theme work I do on a daily basis. Sorry...
UPDATE: First off thank you to everyone for the support and patience. I know the v1 had some "double option choices" and a few animations didn't work. I have went through and tested further and confirm they work now. I also added a couple more choices. I still need to work on the "previews" for some of them, about half are done right now. If the previews aren't available to view during recovery they are most likely available in the OP. Again thank you for your patience!!

That's great news thanks again for this awesome feature! (if your going to scale them perfect for s6 resolution in the future, may i suggest starting with blue helix / blue DNA? ) they are seriously cool!
edit: maybe if it exist, find something similar to them for shutdown aswell?

It's hard to say really. Since I don't have that device I can't test things out. I would need a patient tester? If you're interested send me the file named "bootanimation" whatever sprint calls it, (maybe spr_bootanimation)from the system/bin folder and I'll take a look at it.

I need some help.
My S6 G920I has become unresponsive during Aroma boot animation selection screen.
The screen is still on but nothing works.
I have held the power button down for 10 secs --- still nothing.
Also tried volume up, home button and poer for ten secs-- nothing.
Can anyone offer a solution please, (can't pull the battery like my S4).
edit - held volume down, home key & power button for ten secs, phone booted into recovery.
I must say I was very worried there for a while. I am surprised that it did not boot into download mode.

My phone froze 3 or 4 times on previewing sth, had to reset it also.
To do so, press just the power+vol down button (without the home button); that just powers the device off and forces a reboot.

The newest addition to my Aroma Bootanimation installer.

Just flash in recovery!! Enjoy and stay tuned fo more...

I don't care about Hunger games and i think it might be a bit long for a boot screen, but it looks amazing here-
on the S6 screen it will surely blow your mind!
Might try this for a time just for the looks
Keep up the great work man!

[BOOT] Helix Animations, Fuchsia Shutdown added[UPDATED 4/5/11]

Finished this series of colors for this boot. Going to take a little break from this series to work on a different type of animation and look more into resolution vs. fps stuff. Enjoy!
New: I added a fuchsia shutdown animation by request. Not much of a helix on this one, more messing with what kind of fancy loopage I could get out of the streaks. Sorry it took so long! Life...perpetually in the way of things.
I was able to get a 47 MB series of files down to 12 MB at 90% resolution and still it was far too slow. The thing that perplexes me is that even 65% resolution is still far too slow and in fact is not much faster than 90% or 100%, but at 50% it basically goes at the intended speed. If there is anybody knowledgeable about crushing PNGs while not sacrificing too much resolution, or maybe has better insight into how the bootanimation.zip is actually read, please let me know.
EDITS:
4/5/11: Added Helix Fuchsia Shutdown
4/1/11: Added Helix Fuchsia Boot.
3/28/11: Added Helix Red Shutdown.
3/27/11: Added Helix Green Shutdown.
3/26/11: Added Helix Red Boot.
Added Helix Green Boot.
Updated Helix Green to slightly higher res (half res)
3/23/11: Added Helix shutdown animation.
About Flashing Shutdown Animations:
Shutdown animation exists as a sequence of PNG files in /system/media/video/shutdown so this zip will simply copy the image files there. HOWEVER, since this is not simply replacing one file like the boot animation, if you currently have a shutdown animation this zip you should delete the folder using your root accessible file manager of choice (unsolicited advertisement: Root Explorer does very well with read/write permissions and is totally worth the purchase) or adb the folder out of there. If you flash over an existing PNG sequence it may be prone to weird flashing and stuttering.
DISCLAIMER: ALWAYS have a backup of your system BEFORE you flash. I am not responsible for anything bad happening to your phone should you choose to flash these files.
These zips are flashable in CWM3.0+ (edify scripts). It wipes the cache so your first boot might be a bit long.

I actually don't know if edify zips work in 2.5. I feel like I've heard of some version of CWM 2.5 that could flash them, but I've never actually tried as I went to 3.0 some time ago. However, if you like you can just pull the bootanimation.zip file out of Helix Boot.zip and either adb push it or use a root explorer to copy it to your appropriate system directory. Speaking of which (hijacking my own thread here), are all the Epic kernels out there now in agreement for using /system/media for custom boot animation? I should've said I've only tried it on Bonsai 3.0.1 as I haven't made the leap to 4.0.0 yet but I assume they haven't changed that.
Pure awesomeness! Thanks!

Amazing! If this does not satisfy the person looking for the double helix, at least you made a lot of the rest of us happy. I too have been rebooting my phone just to show this off
Okay just flashed this animation and it is definitely the best animation i have come across so far.
Thanks a lot! Glad people are enjoying it. Can't wait for the challenge of making a coherent sub-6 second animation as the devs keep pushing these phones
so search is down now but I tried looking to see how to get boot animations to work. I have cwm3 and am runner the latest syndicateROM frozen. Do I just download this, attach to sd and then "flash" it in cwm? Or do I need to delete the other boot animation that came with the rom?
I just dont want to mess anything up

Just flash it through CW 3.0. It will just replace the current boot animation that is in Syndicate. You do not need to take anything out of your current ROM.
thanks jct!
so awesome! works on cwm 2.5 incase anyone was wondering!

2nd- @ whoever wanted the 2.5 cwm zip.. just convert it yourself. there is a a great forum here about converting cwm 2.x.x to 3.x.x and vice-versa. i've used it myself to create custom themes. its really easy. just need 7-zip and a few mins and you're all good to go! good luck

Boot Animations
Only tested on Galaxy S3 and Note 2 (720x1280 @30fps unless otherwise specified.
Thanks to smokin1337 for Bootanimation4U!
Thanks to kevinrocksman for his Boot Ani Zip Enabler for Note 3
Boot Animations: Touchwiz or AOSP
Easy Install:
If you haven't enabled custom boot animations or it isn't already supported by your kernel;
Read and grab Bootanimation4U
Download XYZBootanimation.zip and rename to "bootanimation.zip"
Add bootanimation.zip to /system/media/ (for Touchwiz) OR /data/user/ or /data/local(for AOSP)
Flash Bootanimation4U.zip in recovery
Advanced Install:
Flash bootanimation4u.zip from recovery.
Reboot and install Boot Animations Root from the Play Store. It is also included in Rom Toolbox, if you already use it.
Go into the app's preferences and change install location to /system/media/ (for Touchwiz) OR /data/user/ or /data/local(for AOSP) and leave the default filename (bootanimation.zip) and go back to the main screen.
Select the Local tab, browse for the bootanimation file (No need to rename)and hit Install.
Tap the options key and select Preview current. Make sure you like it and reboot.
You can preview it before installing the animation if you buy the Pro version, but the preview quality is better if you install it first anyway.
If you need to resize a bootanimation for a different device's resolution follow my video guide here:
Samsung .qmg Boot Animations
The Galaxy Note 3, and I am assuming newer Samsung devices do not support bootanimation.zip files out of the box. Until we have a way to get that to work we are reliant on replacing bootsamsung.qmg with an edited version. This is an extremely limited way of getting it to work. It causes bootanimations not to run as smoothly as .zip format animations with optimized images. The Samsung Theme Designer app I use to make TW shutdown animations is not very good at compressing or optimizing images, which becomes more apparent the larger the animation resolution is. Ideally, you would want to use a centered small graphic with a black background to make it look as if it were truly fullscreen. Well it appears that Samsung threw yet another wrench into the gears and now it doesn't work that way anymore. When I try to use a non-fullscreen image it stretches it to fill the whole screen and that makes it look like poo-poo. It does not look anywhere near as fluid as the smaller "fake" fullscreen ones did on my Note 2.
Samsung Theme Designer also only lets me import up to 255 images, unlike the usual 300 I tend to use in a bootanimation.zip for 30fps. I am not sure if that results in a slightly shorter bootanimation or if it means that it uses the same duration but runs it at a slower framerate. <shrug> But it could explain the choppiness. It could also just be that .qmg animations are more resource heavy. I also still have to figure out which way it runs smoother; a native res 1080x1920 or 720x1280 and let the device do the upscaling. I dunno the recipe, I am just sayin'.
I have only tried converting a couple of my 720x1280 bootanimations and they worked, although they didn't come out great. This is going to be a learning experience for me until I figure out the optimal settings to make them run smoother. I am going to start converting some more of my older bootanimations to the .qmg format, as well as creating new ones.
Installation:
Download and rename XYZbootsamsung.qmg to bootsamsung.qmg and replace the one in /system/media.
Update:
Thanks to @kevinrocksman we now have .zip support for Note 3. Just flash one of his boot animations here to enable it and you can install any .zip bootani after that.
If you want to request anything just post a link or youtube video. Obviously 720p or better results in better bootanimations.

Make sure it's "shutdown.qmg" in all lower case letters and place it in the /system/media/video/shutdown directory. Try another one and let me know if it's the file itself, thanks.

Hey everyone!
I was really fascinated with the clean front look the OnePlus One had and decided that when the phone booted up, it had to compliment the sleek, black screen with less disturbances such as the white OnePlus logo and the "Powered by Android" when it first boots up. I also really liked how CM incorporated the boot logo with the boot animation that made it seemlessly transition to the uncurling of the OnePlus logo.
However, I'm not into that kinda thing. I like the phone to feel professional, with a minimalistic looks in all aspects. So I designed my own boot sequence look, including the logo.bin and the theme apk.
This boot layout is really a hit or miss. If you're not into it after a while just reflash stock logo.img and disable this theme.
WHAT THIS PACK INCLUDES
Splash Screen Replacement (Overwrites Red/White OnePlus logo with "Powered by Android")
Fastboot Logo
Boot Animation (Selectable in Theme Engine)
SCREENSHOTS
GIF files don't play the full frames per second as intended. Use the GIF below as a reference to how the animation appears, however it cannot compare to the actual speed of the boot animation when it is played on the device.

Something like this but with the "powered by android" text moving while your phone boots? What kind of movement were you thinking of?
I made 2 versions with different oneplus logos.
Let us know what you think

Alright, lemme do a last guess, but can we get a little more clarification?
- Same black background
- Red "oneplus" with our heartbeat animation
- Our approach of "powered by android" with our font? (or default font?) [fading animation from between the logo.img and the boot animation?]
I noticed a problem in the logo.img script and am at work at fixing it to align it!
Update coming in 2 hours. For the "one" variant. If you're using the "one" version, do not continue using it! It's not the true boot up experience
UPDATE: "one" version has been updated - download "one-ver2.0 (260914).zip" from OP

Yeess, correct..!!
oneplus text or oneplus logo with red color would be just fine.
Regarding the powered by android font, I will leave that to you.

Alright gotcha. Sorry we're a bit busy trying to solve some issues when uploading the apk on the Play Store. Better for us to cater the updates all at once, without people losing out on the latest version.
Yes, we have fixed the "oneplus" and "android" versions to have a seemless boot sequence.

[update:22/05 New type5 boot animation]My custom Nvidia Bootanimations & wallpapers
Disclaimer I am not responsible for any damage to your device.
I wanted something else as boot animation so I created a couple myself. I only tested this on shield tablet K1 , stock MM 6.0.1 and do not guarantee it to work on anything else.
The source of the animation is intended for landscape view only so the portrait animation might not look as appealing as the landscape animation. I intend to smoothen out the animation a stretch more in near future when time permits.

Q&A's
what is general file naming structure used ?
Files are usually named in bootanimationtype_fps(_splchar_).zip
Which files to download?
Initially choose which type of boot animation style do you want, then decide which fps rate do you prefer then download that type of boot animation file of that particular fps.
ex: i decided i like type 2 at 30fps so i have to download type2_30fps.zip
How do i restore to default stock one?
currently unavailable , ill provide a flashable zip for this tomorrow.
I am unable to see the boot animation on my device
Which rom and android version are you using, these are meant for stock MM rom.
I don't understand the animation part 1 & part2
Okay so basically each boot animation has two parts part1 and part 2 ; part1 will only play once and then part 2 will kick in and play infinitely until the device completes its booting process.
Are these flashable zip's ?
Absolutely not , i will look into them once i upload all intended boot styles and and iron out some glitches.
Yes i got some time and now all boot animations are available in flashable zip formats.
What are padded and zoomed animations
As informed in first post , base images used for these boot animations is in landscape so when viewing in portrait some tend to cut off[zoomed] so I provided an alternative [padded] where images remain same size but black bars appear on top and bottom . Its up to you to decide which one to use.
I hate both padded and zoomed animations, is there any alternative?
I'm pretty sure there is but editing ~125 to 200 frames per animation is insane and I might only do this if many people ask and time permits.
Wallpapers
I made these while creating the boot animations ; so I uploaded them just in case anyone finds them interesting.
Suitable for both landscape and portrait orientation.
resolution : 1920 X 1920
format : png

Awesome!
Hey shy and hidden 400 xda members , i would like to know if you guys are okay with 30 and 60 fps or would you like me to create another batch using 24 fps , cause i feel the boot animations are rushed out even in 30 fps.
Thanks for this!
I'm using the type 2 @ 30fps - it would be nice if it could be slowed down a bit more to be really appreciated.

Hey I've added 24fps but type2 animation is very small in total frames available so there is not much of an improvement with 24fps.

Part 2 is in the Part1 flashable zips. [All type animation zips contain part 2 within them] You dont have to download any extra file for part 2.
Just download a type of animation you want and flash it in twrp. You will see part 1 animation followed by part 2 animation when you boot.

- Once you choose 2, 3, or 4 to convert the image, open "place-image-here" folder and you will now see the new file: "custom.img"
- Rename the custom.img to splash1.nb0 (yes, change the extension from .img to .nb0)
- Download this Splash Empty Template - 1.82x
Splash Empty Template - 2.41x I created
- Place the splash1.nb0 file you created into my Splash_EmptyTemplate.zip and now you are on your way to enjoying your new splash screen
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip NameOfSplash.zip
Code:
fastboot reboot
I have created a Splash Screen based off the Unlocked hTC 10 Variant. (See attached image)

Here's one I made using @andybones' approach:
N.B. this is for the Verizon 10 variant only. I imagine it works on the other 10's, but the android-info.txt in the zip file will have to be modified first.
You can download the zip file here.
good job! you can throw up the inverted VZW splash which keeps the HTC green in the OP

Thanks. The rush you get when you hit that enter key knowing that the phone just may brick after is like non other lol, glad all turned out fine!
Good job with the image, but I am not going to be making splash screens.
This was to provide an easy step-by-step guide to allow others to take advantage.
If you'd like, please follow the OP, create the .zip and provide it in your post for others to flash, like @hgoldner did. :good:

I was simply providing the image so others can download it, and follow the steps in the OP themselves

Whatever floats your boat bro.. :silly:
I'll update this post and create the Splash... Not everyone is able to get to a PC, or may not be able to create the .zip - for whatever reason, so when images are posted by users it'd be nice to give them the option to download and flash the Splash.
EDIT:
You can download the .zip here
With nearly 150 views in 1 day, I'm surprised more aren't as happy about this as I am.
I have used this splash screen since my Evo3D (credits to the original creator, it's been so long, I don't remember). I resized it for my M8, and again for my hTC 10. Screenshot & splash1.nb0 attached for anyone interested.
If anyone knows...when I do a normal reboot, my custom splash greets me as expected. But, if I reboot to recovery or download mode (via APM, ADB, or bootloader menu) I get a splash screen with a silver hTC on a black background. Is this a secondary splash? On my other phones, I'm pretty sure I always got PennyWise no matter how I rebooted.

That's normal for the 10.
Also been using splash screen same method since M7 but the 10 was different and doesn't have .imgs those devices had, so this was a new deal, new risk but all turned out great.
Thanks for sharing. :good:

Very welcome.
100% agreed my friend, the white was terrible (at least unlocked came black) but it's awesome to be able to customize it as we should.

I am super happy you figured this out. I hate the blinding white splash screen. Thanks bro.

Editing the splash screen has always been a fun start for me to making the device yours once you get S-OFF. I love being able to play around and customize to when I feel like it. And, yea that white is just terrible, why they try to blind us is beyond me. The unlocked variant gets black.
Thanks for this! I hope to find this one in this resolution eventually. Always loved this one but without the beats logo on the left.

Would it be possible to rename the zip to 2PS6IMG.zip & install thru download mode? Just curious...
