Moto X 2014 ATT Bootloader - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Moto X 2014 ATT model, and as far as I know there is no root or boatloader unlock for this device? Is that still true? Just thought I'd ask.

If you are on android 4.4.4 or 5.0 you can use mofo or kingroot to root, then use sunshine to unlock your bootloader. If you are on 5.1, sorry but there is no way currently.

Bounty
Does anyone know of anyone working towards achieving this? I'd put money towards that bounty.

I agree. I've asked around in the community.

There is a way... with Cricket Mobile at least.
UPDATE:
I have been on the phone with cricket wireless for over an hour and I finally got to the top guy. He said that once you own the phone for a six month period call back at the number he provided me and he would give me my code to unlock the bootloader.

After 6 months they give you the code to unlock the sim, not the bootloader. If he said bootloader he was mistaken or he did not understand what you want.

Well, crap. At least I'm on cricket and don't have to wait to upgrade my phone.
I just don't get it. I own this device. I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with it. It seems unethical to keep you from accessing the root of the device. (insert expletive)

I recently learned that that code that is released 6 months after your contract starts is actually the code for the SIM card

Unlock Sprint LG Marquee?

I have a friend that needs a new phone and he has a straight talk. I have an old LG Marquee for Sprint and I want to unlock it so he can use it on his carrier. Any ideas how to do that? Its rooted and I have never unlocked a phone but I went to the LG Unlocker website and they require you to pay to unlock it and I am not going to pay for something like that.

Did you buy the phone outright from a Sony store? If so, go ahead and get an unlock code for it. According to most places reporting on the ban that I've looked at, it's only subsidised handsets that are covered under this downright stupid piece of legislation

Just have someone with T-mobile call t-mobile and get an unlock code. They do not require a minimum period. It only takes about 2 weeks for them to process it. I have done it many times with phones. That said, I am almost certain that this phone only works on T-mobile's bands, but I could be wrong. But it is branded for T-mobile. If you wanted one for AT&T, you should try selling the one you have and ordering an international version.

The phone is actually out today. I will try to ask tmobile to get the unlock code probably next week. As I know there is a requirement to submit an unlocking request. The phone need to be used on a prepaid number, which I have, more than 40 days.
International version doesn't support US LTE at all unless there will be C6606 for international.

How is Motorola/Google treating Moto X users with bootloader/ROM dev?

Hello
Motorola has a horrible recent history with locked bootloaders and crippling for ROM development. Google bought it now and this is really the first phone they release. Has anything changed with Google now in charge?
I saw some leaked pictures of a Droid 5 and Im intrested in getting it but only if M/G has changed their openness....
Thank you

Childish comments aside, the point is that everyone can unlock their bootloader.
From what Ive seen in Motorola's site, there is a tool to unlock the Moto X bootloader. Does that work on all Moto X phones? This would really get development going...
AT&T and Verizon users will NOT have access to the bootloader unlock service.

Which is why they have specific Developer Edition phones for both AT&T and Verizon for people who DO want to unlock their bootloaders. Which would surprise me if it makes up of 1% of the population that the Moto X is targeting.
Maybe we should start a bounty similar to the one going for the Verizon HTC One to get the Moto X bootloader unlocked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422777
Seems as though the rogers Canadian version is the developer edition, bootloader is unlockable plus there's absolutely no rogers branding on the back and front of the phone at all, the only 3 Rogers apps can be removed easily, my suggestion would be find a contact up here in the great white north and have them buy you one

You would have to order that from Moto themselves and at the full price. Plus it will be a 32gb version. It will have a Black face with a White back that says Developer Edition on it.

Yeah the APN settings changed itself to tmobile's LTE settings. kinda weird but it did.
Signal strength is based on your network, not really your phone, but I get LTE 80-90% of the time from the places that I go to (mostly in cities and urban areas)

and if you're too lazy to do it manually, you can always plug in a working ATT simcard for it to update then switch back to your tmoible sim card.

What are you talking about? Either the Sprint Note 7 with an unlocked sim slot works or it doesn't. If it has the radios and it sees the simcard for TMO. Then it should work. No need to wait for much.

Unless Sprint unlocks your phone, you're not gonna be able to use it on T-Mobile until a root method drops. Once rooted we can unlock them. I've unlocked over 100 S7 edges from Sprint. Its what I do for a living.

OK. So that's what you do. *shrug* But I doubt it.
The OP asked if an unlocked Note 7 would work on TMO. It will if the sim card is unlocked.
It's a code to unlock it not a kernel. The kernel would be to unlock the bootloader ... a sim unlock and a bootloader unlock are different beasts.
It's not the sim card that has to be unlocked. It's the phone. Sprint don't take codes anymore. Sprint has to approve the unlock now. Just like T-Mobile and the device unlock app. The custom engineering kernel will grant root access to write the correct byte in for the unlock.
