Nexus 6 wont connecting to High School's WiFi - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey! I recently made the switch over from a Note 3 to a Nexus 6 and I'm really enjoying it. Sadly, i'm having a pretty big issue. My Nexus 6 will not connect to my School's WiFi. I've tired resetting it and literally everything. The phone goes into the WiFi, but when I've to login, the phone won't connect. I've tired doing it through the browser, but chrome won't even let me go into the Login authentication page. I can connect to my home network, but yeah. School WiFi does not seem to work, is there any troubleshoot fix for this?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Wi-Fi connects but doesn't work?

So I have somewhat of a strange issue with my wi-fi on my captivate. At home, my WiFi works great, no issuses. But when I go to my college, I can scan and connect to the WiFi spots but it still acts like I'm not connected. No data apps work at all, everything 'Fails to connect'
Using Wifi Analyzer, I see that its a strong connection. Even tried connecting to different channels, walking around trying different hot spots.. still no difference.
Why would my phone do that? Is there different kinds of WiFi networks phones cant connect to? But like i said, it see's and connects to the hot-spots there, just acts likes theres no data..

I had this issue last night when I was at a Hilton. IT saw the connection and connected but no data transfer. Found that when I connected to my laptop it redirected me to a page to enter the pswrd. So when I connected my phone again I loaded up the page from the laptop and entered the code. then it worked. Not sure if it helps
When you connect to the open wifi network simply open your browser and you should find instructions for that establishments network.

I started having a similar issue. I connect and get no data connection anytime I'm on wifi. It's happening on stock 2.1 and all 2.2 roms. After about two weeks of this, I called and am getting a warranty repair. I've had this phone since early august and never had any wifi problems.

When you connect to the connection that is not giving data, open your browser. Some places instead of useing a pin code use a webpage where you input the code.

[Q] Anyone else having WiFi issues with their HTC One?

Hey guys,
So I just got my brand-spanking new HTC One today. I upgraded from the Evo LTE, and I already love it.
But there's one thing that has been really frustrating to me for the few hours I've owned this phone... It has major WiFi issues.
My One can see the WiFi network, can connect to it, but wont give an internet connection! It's so frustrating!
My Evo LTE, being connected to the same WiFi network, connects to the internet with no problem at all.
A temporary fix is to turn off the WiFi radio, then turn it back on. As a result, I would connect to the internet for a minute or so, then it would disconnect from the internet (it's still connected to my WiFi network, and it recognizes it, and it gives no messages about the connection suggesting that something is wrong with my router/connection).
I changed the frequency bands, but they all have the same issue. I have enabled "Best Wi-Fi performance" and "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep."
I've also reseted my router numerous times... No luck.
Is anyone else having this issue, or did I just get a lemon? Can anyone think of a possible solution?
Thanks!
no issues here with my one and my netgear r6300 ac router.
Wi-Fi has been fantastic for me on my one. My evo LTE if you remember had the issue of wi-fi just shutting off after the phone was asleep. That was fixed in an update but even after that was fixed my evoLTE would show it's connected but data would not work. So I would have to toggle it on & off. I also had an issue with my sense widget not working and getting stuck. I was really starting to dislike the evoLTE because of it since your notifications quit working if your wi-fi was not connected correctly. I put up with crappy wi-fi for almost a year, mainly because I knew if I took it into Sprint they would say everything works perfect I just didn't wanna deal with. I know it's extremely frustrating to not have your wi-fi work correctly. My advice see if you can get a hold of another HTC one to test side by side. If it's a hardware issue you should get it swapped. You could also try hard resetting. I use a a WRT54GL with tomato at home and a Asus N66U at work, both have performed awesome with my one.
I have _exactly_ the same issue with my One. I have no idea if it's a software or a hardware problem. Tried a hard reset just yet, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
Really frustrating indeed, since the One is not very good available in the Netherlands yet, so if I return it, I might have to wait a few weeks to get a new one. I've tried it with at least 6 completely different WiFi networks, but the problem occurs with every one of them.
Only issue I have had with the WiFi thus far is it doesn't seem to have the pickup up range compared to my other phones and tablets.
WiFi on mine is insanely crazy! Picks up signal way better than any other device I've ever owned. Might be the kernel I'm running. Try it out! Look in the original dev thread.

I've noticed this as well. Areas in my office where I could get a decent wifi signal with my 3D I am dropping wifi completely with the One.
Router brand/model? Firmware version? WEP/WPA/Open? 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz or dual band? Channel (more relevant on 2.4 than 5)?
Does your phone get a valid IP? Check on the phone itself then the router under DHCP (assuming normal configuration, IP should begin 192.168.*.*)
Can you ping any internal node (ie your router) or external node (ie google.com or the IP to google)?
If your router has WEP/WPA enabled, switch it to Open solely for testing the connection.

I had the same problem. Finally I tried to reset the phone without putting all my google-account info back. Then the wifi works fine. After that a Added my google-account and can enjoy my new HTC one. The phone is really good!
Note that in this way I didn't get all my setting back from my google account (like access points), but at it is working!

[Q] Anyone having Wifi issues with N6?

I just got the new monster nexus 6 and I have a wifi problem where it simply will not connect to my work network. It doesn't say authentication problem it just pops back and forth between "saved" and "connecting". I was able to connect to my home network no problem and there's no issue with access control. They're both WPA2 and I've quadruple checked the password. I also know it works on everyone else's phones so it seems there's just some unknown issue with getting the nexus 6 to connect. Can't imagine anyone has any good ideas but has anyone else seen wifi problems with their nexus 6?
I've done the easy stuff like reboot phone and forget and re-enable network and manually enter network but wondering if there's some kind of bug. It doesn't even say "authentication problem" when i try a wrong passcode for ages but it eventually will. Very strange stuff
Does the work wireless have any sort of mac address filtering enabled? And available DHCP address leases? Those would be the two things that pop up in my head first.

The IT guy didn't seem to think there was MAC filtering and I wouldn't think so as I had my nexus 5 here a while back but I'll probably test tomorrow by bringing in my N7 2013 that's never been in the office and now has lollipop and see if it gives me trouble as well.
I'll have to learn more about terminal commands and see about the logcat as well to see if there's any hints why it's failing. Haven't got that deep into that in years though.
Having a different WiFi issue... Mine will connect, show great signal, but the connection is not great. Pages eventually come up, but response is so slow... Only device that behaves this way. Not sure if it's a compatibility issue with my rourer or a crappy driver on the nexus or hardware. I'll need to see if the problem is just my home or all WiFi connections...
Same issue here
I have the same issue with my N6 , i cant connect to the WIFI at work it goes from "connecting" to "saved" the security is PEAP. But my Home wifi works fine.
with my One+ one I dont have this issue

Having the exact same problem on my nexus 6. I do however get a warning 'authentication problem'. Re-entering password doesn't help. A reboot fixes the problem. Does not occur on my nexus 5. Hope this apparent bug is fixed in next lollipop update or sooner
I came across this, it's an older article but still relevant:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...uble-connecting-to-5-ghz-wi-fi-access-points/
I have the same problem.
Nexus 6 (Android 5.1), bootloader unlocked, and rooted.
The problem occurs sporadically, and only on one out of two SSIDs.
Firewall/Router is SonicWall TZ-215W.
The problematic SSID uses Windows PDC, DNS and DHCP server, and allows access to internal office network.
The good SSID uses public DNS servers, with no access to internal office network.
HCT-Vivid and LG G3 access the problematic SSID without an issue.
EDIT: The problem is solved by updating Sonicwall TZ-215W firmware to SonicOS Enhanced 5.9.0.7-17o.

I'm having major WiFi problems.

I can't stop having WiFi problems with this phone. My internet is perfectly fine. I've never had WiFi problems on any other android phone, and even an iPhone. Images or screenshots in the play store don't load at all. No matter what I do I cannot get them to load. I take off WiFi and they load fine. I go on my moms G2 to test the play store and it's fine on hers, and same with my brothers. Computers are fine. I've even tried to connect to the few websites they allow at school on their network and they either take forever to load or sometimes I get network errors. I literally don't know what to do. I thought it was a custom rom issue but now I'm restored back to stock and it's still a problem. Instgram connection will time out when refreshing, chrome doesn't load pages, twitter cant refresh, and more. On BlissPop I would turn WiFi off and back on and it wouldnt show my connection again until I rebooted. I dont know if that was a problem with the rom, but it was happening. Any ideas what's wrong? I'm clueless as of know. Don't know what to do anymore.

download wifi analyzer from the play store, it will suggest the best channel so you aren't running into your neighbors wifi
I'm having exactly the same issue. When I picked up my N6 at the AT&T store the setup failed on their wifi, but worked fine once I used LTE instead. I'm having the same issue everywhere, though -- wifi doesn't work 99% of the time. The Play Store will load app names, but the images never show up. Play Music hangs while trying to download songs, etc. Turn off wifi and immediately everything starts loading at the expected near-instant speed.
I've tried reflashing 5.0 (how it came out of box) and 5.0.1, same issue. My wifi is dual band, and neither 2.4 nor 5 ghz works. I've tried it at my parents' house too, which is 2.4-only (and I did the network layout and setup) but still no dice.
If nobody can suggest a course of action I'll be taking the phone back to the AT&T Store tomorrow as a dud. Basically I just wanted to confirm that this isn't some documented software bug that'll be patched soon.

I also have Comcast. No WiFi issues with my Nexus 6, or any other devices.
Hey there... I am actually a field technician for Comcast maybe I can help. What exactly are you having for issues... can you see the network, is it the default password with default network name??? Let me know and I can do what I can to help you. Also what device do you have an XB2 or an XB3 wireless gateway?
That's weird. At my mother's I also have some issues with the WiFi at times where I just won't get a connection. I keep having to turn the WiFi on the nexus on and off. Luckily the lte coverage in the area is top notch
Just yesterday subscribed to Comcast/xfinity, logged my Nexus 6 into it, got full strength signal showing on the phone, and HUGE latency-to-zero performance. This is the first and only time I've ever seen little to no WiFi performance, yet WITH a very strong signal. I wonder if this has something to do with xfinity WiFi and that business where they share your bandwidth with other members who are nearby and wanting to use WiFi?
My wife's iPhone works fine with it...
-Peter
I have this same issue with my Nexus 6. I can connect to the WiFi fine, but web connections never seem to complete. The progress bar in chrome gets to about 10% and just sticks there. Apps attempting to download data just time out.
I am running the latest stable released build of Marshmallow.
I do not have this issue on my n6 with xfinity internet. I do not use their leased modem/router so do not share the Internet but doubt that is the issue.
However, the WiFi is not always 100% stable (notice in clash of clans when a short disconnect is a big deal). I rarely get sporadic disconnects in that game but streaming video, etc. never causes an issue. I am using the latest Pure Nexus build lately and seems to have helped (maybe placebo).
Edit: I use that n6 like an iPod touch now (WiFi only) so I'd definitely notice but it works great.
