"Look" of the device (aesthetics) - Nexus 5X Real Life Review

Is the LG Nexus 5X as good-looking as you are (despite your receding hairline, adult-onset acne, and massive weight gain)? Rate this thread to express whether you think the LG Nexus 5X is attractive. A higher rating indicates that you would even go as far to say that the LG Nexus 5X is a beautiful phone.

It's a generic looking slab. Very utilitarian. Which some will like, but for me it's too bleh

I like that it's made from plastic, it's a sensible material to make a phone out of. Metal and glass may be considered premium, but I consider it stupid. Plastic feels nicer in the hand and will stand up to knocks better.

I agree as I never understood the obsession with glass and metal either.

Finally pulled the trigger today, any recommendations on case or skin? Looking for some minimal protection for camera bump.

I think the looks are just average. It's not as nice looking as the Nexus 6P but it's better looking than anything from Samsung. It is a little boring I guess but I sure wouldn't call it ugly.

Good looking phone.

From my side I think Nexus 5x looks better than Nexus 6P.

For me it looks like a phone witch someone from Bauhaus design it.
But I like it

My brief & positive review of the Play Store case

I received one of the official Google Play Store Cass the other day. I wasn't expecting much due to the ample amount of criticism the case has had on these boards. However, I am very pleased with the $20 case.
It fits well. The button covers fit well enough that pressing them feels solid and not at all flimsy. The material feels nice to the touch, and I enjoy the not-flashy gray color. The front flap has some weight to it, making it feel like it covers the screen adequately when closed. No, it is not a "smart" cover so it doesn't wake the device up when lifted. But it is not advertised as such, and so to criticize it for that would be absurd. As a final touch, it says "nexus" on the back giving the tablet and case combination a very cohesive look and feel.
Overall I'm very pleased with this case. And I'm totally impressed with the $220 dollar case and tablet gadget that I'm writing this post with!

I'm also impressed with my case. I don't understand why so many people criticize it even though they haven't used it. Very quality material, and it seems fairly durable.

I'm glad to hear this, as I have not touched one and suspected it would actually be pretty nice. Though now knowing there is smart cover capability, I just can't justify spending any money on a case without it

I can't speak for everyone but I have used this case and it feels cheap. No way should it cost what it does.
There are MUCH nicer SMART cases for HALF the price of the Play Store case.

Does it feel cheaper than the almost invariably black pleather cases that have saturated the market? Care to provide any examples for $10 or less?
I'm happy with my Poetic hard back case and the official Nexus 7 case from Google.
I actually prefer using the official case more mainly because it doesn't add a lot of bulk to my tablet. That in turn makes it more portable as the Nexus 7 will fit in the back pocket of my business pants/slacks.
The "Smart Cover" is a nice feature to have but not necessary, IMHO. It makes it convenient but it doesn't take a lot of effort to hit the power button and sliding to unlock to use the tablet.

Quality feel (use of materials)

Rate this thread to express how you think the LG V10 feels in terms of quality. A higher rating indicates that it feels premium and high-quality (attention to detail is high, manufacturing defects don't exist, etc).

It's grippy yet at the same time If you're light to touch it's slippery. The phone looks premium business-like. Sofisticated yet not pretentious. The coating on the back cover reminds me of the feel of the Kevlar backs on Motorola devices.
Solid. Tight. Doesn't creek.
Quality of phone feels "assuring". Stainless steel sides give the feeling of sturdiness. Back cover is the type of material that sort of "heal" if there is a small indent/nick.
Gorilla glass 4 on this device seems to avoid and resist smudges compared to the iphone 6/6s.
The stainless steel sides... love it so much
Home run in this category. It feels solid, it looks solid, it's heavier than most and it feels right in my big hands.
Good job LG.
All of things in design is good but i think the back cover could be better than it.
The stainless steel sides is perfect and make a good feeling
I preffer phones are simple design and the front side of this phone is excellent

Ergonomics (in-hand feel)

Please, no "that's what she said" jokes. Rate this thread to express how you think the HTC 10 feels in-hand. A higher rating indicates that it's comfortable to hold for long periods of time, even in one hand. Resist the urge to say "TWSS" just now. Seriously.

Switched from M8 then A9, now 10. M8 is too slippery, A9 has the best feel in hand, light-weighted, round corners, feels good. 10's big chamfer does help, but I still prefer A9's in-hand feel.
Looks like they fired all ergonomics/user interface designers. Placement of Power button next to volume buttons is atrocious. Placement of the headphone jack is terrible.
I came from iPhone 6 which was disaster to hold in hands without TPU case, HTC 10 worse because it is bigger and from the same material, I must carry it like an egg until my TPU case finally arrives. It slips from dry hands or pocket like it is nothing. I cannot get used to even take it out on the asphalt because I just wait for it to slip from hands. I dont get all that hype with aluminium housing, Sony and also HTC have had great plastic housings, stupid Apple gave them stupid ideas.
Isn't the black color less slippery?
My only grape is the headphone jack being on top. Previously, I had the M8 and it was very slippery. I don't find that issue with the 10 and i like the weight of the phone.
I have white one and it it slippery like hell!

You mean the silver one?
Yea, the front is white
To me my M8 is much easier to secure in-hand than my 10. Even though the M8 is only slightly curved it conforms to your hand better. I really like the ridged power button on the 10. It helps identify itself, and i use it to help stabilize my grip

it just the same
Very slippery w/o a case
Is a bit slippery. First time having alu phone, and wont buy them anymore, these premium materials are totaly useless on daily 'driving' , need to be careful like with egg. After 2weeks bought Spiegen cover, feels confident with phone now.
Hard to tell which way is up until you can feel the buttons on the right.
could be a bit narrower and slimmer
The lower part hurts, as long as it holds. besides it is very comfortable
For me the weight, and shape is perfect. It's easy to pick it up from a flat surface, as opposed to for example the S7. The aluminium is slippery, but I use a case anyway.

OnePlus Rosewood Case Review

Feel free to ask questions about my thoughts on this case!
Just got my rosewood case in the mail yesterday. Love the look and feel it gives the phone and the camera bump being flush is a plus

Yeah I agree, much better than loads of other cases
Also if you actually look up the company that makes the cases for Oneplus and how they manufacture them its pretty neat!
Very thin real wood veneer formed with Kevlar fiber material and they claim zero interference with signal as well???

If only oneplus could create a phone with WiFi that wasn't terrible
I'm on my fifth day with my OP3. I must say overall I am quite satisfied. I too ordered a wood case except I opted for the Bamboo. I must say thus far the case seems to be very well built and looks amazing. I know that this thread is about the Rosewood case but I would assume that similar processes are used in the production of all of OP's wood cases. I didn't know that Kevlar was somehow involved in the laminating and fabrication process. Thats definitely interesting.
Again, while the looks and style of the Rosewood and Bamboo cases are obviously a bit different I think its fair to view them as basically the same for all practical purposes. I was pleasantly surprised by it's thickness or lack thereof. Coming from a not-so-water-resistant 2015 Moto X Pure this phone, even with the case, feels extremely thin and light. Hopefully the wood cases can stand up to daily wear and tear as well as the accidental drop from time to time. All things considered I am very impressed with not only the case, but the phone as well. Sure there were a few compromises from my MXPE(Camera, Flash, no SD, no 2k display, no front facing speakers) but in many respects I this device to be superior.
As to Lordred's comment all I can say is I feel ya bro! My Wifi(802.11n 2.4/5Ghz) is constantly throwing a '!' on my OP3's WiFi icon which causes me to need to disable and then re-enable my OP3's WiFi. It's been a giant PITA thus far as has been BT pairing with my ZenWatch 2. I guess I'm going to have to analyze my WiFi spectrum later today wheb I get home and maybe tweak some settings on my AP.
I know it's not a case related question, but what do you have protecting your op3 screen?
For now just the stock screen protector that came on the phone. Once it starts actually showing marks I'll replace it with something better

Feels like a solid tablet. However when looking at the screen at an angle I can see it is quite wobly.
I have had my SGTS5e for about a week now and I think it has pretty good build quality, which is much better than I originally expected it to be.
The case couldn't be any slicker than if it was covered in weasel grease!

The Galaxy Tab S5e is not that slippery. It has a metal casing, which is actually quite grippy
