Clarity/resolution - Nexus 5X Real Life Review

The LG Nexus 5X has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Crisp text and no noticeable pixels at normal viewing distances.

Gotta agree ^ it's a nice screen.

Its a good screen, no doubt. Expect when scrolling, text gets really blurry. Compared side by side with the Nexus 5 its a noticeable difference. Please test, especially if you own both devices and respond.

yes this workly.

What about scrolling? Isn't it getting blurry especially on the non-black colors? I.e. scrolling through Google search results. It looks much worse than Nexus 5.

5 stars from me. Full HD resolution for 5.2 it's a best way.

Even though it only Full HD, but it is IPS LCD, it is far than enough!

[Q] How is the Display?

Alrite guys, I've planned to get the Z1 by this week and reading every thread here I only got one problem that is the Display, so I want to know how does the display looks like (only for owners of Z1) I want a straight and easy review (don't give any other information on viewing angles other than I asked) how is the display of Z1 head to head and also while watching videos and while playing some motion games does the screen fades out? like in games as real racing 3 we have to tilt display left/right only a bit to turn does the display gets bad or faded? ( I guess no it's a small tilt not some weird angles of using it) and specially is the display head to head great and better than the gs4 or htc one? (head to head only) don't need comment on viewing angles that they fade on huge tilt coz I am not an idiot to use it that way, watsoeva.

I personally like SUPER AMOLED (read samsung devices' display) better, dipper and richer colors (black especially), I hope there will be a gamma adjustment tool for Z1 available soon.

Good
Head on you will get
- Great colors, saturation
- Great at watching movies
- Great reading legibility at direct sunlight
- Great brightness
- Good contrast
Bad
- viewing angles. but you have to tilt more than 45 degrees to really notice the difference. playing real racing 3 is ok, does not distort the display.
- some units get yellow hue. but this is just a software bug, can be fixed by simply downloading an app in google play and adding a little more blue. or wait for a firmware update.
Vs S4 and Vs HTC One
- Z1 has better color, saturation. best at watching movies.
- S4 has better blacks and contrast and viewing angles. but bad brightness, literally can't use under the sunlight. also remember that Amoled deteriorate very fast (1 year, almost 10% loss)
- HTC one has better brightness, better contrast than Z1, best viewing angles.

This was a perfect answer, thanks man! I am not going to use my phone flat in my hand as only stupid people will do that, I just was intended to know if the display is good head-head and while on some games where motion is used (I was pretty sure it will be perfect) thanks again! :good: :good:

Everything you said it's true, but I myself saw a htc one with z1, I guess z1's screen was better with a great contrast and brightness and htc one's viewing angles, no one can win it, though it's just what my eyes saw that z1 had a better screen than any phone atm the moment in market has (head-head or even while gaming/watching vids) cant really say if others see the same

Colors are a bit dull
Colours pop more more than the N5 and they seem fairly accurate.
Fairly accurate but a bit warm. Some people might like it though, I prefer a sharp white but it's good on the eye anyway.
Good color representation and enough color punch
I am satisfied with the color saturation and accuracy. I wouldn't want the color to be more saturated compared to amoled screen. The screen on my 5X is relaxing, there is no pressure/strain to the eyes(auto brightness is on) it just feels right!
According to Anandtech the colors and white point are spot on as far accuracy goes...
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9742/the-google-nexus-5x-review/2
Years of over saturated colors and much too blue white points have conditioned us to think that displays should look like that
Colors seem accurate, EXCEPT for when viewing videos. Colors seem extremely muted when in a video, for instance in youtube, you might see a screenshot of a video when choosing what video to watch, but if you click it and get to the same scene, the colors will be muted in video.

I'm seeing similar behaviour. Gamma looks out of whack in youtube. Blacks are totally washed out. Everything looks overexposed. Not sure if it's a software/driver issue. The display looks great otherwise. Need to try out some other video apps (kodi, mxplayer etc.) to confirm.
Edit: It is indeed a software issue. It's the difference between 16-235 vs 0-255. See this thread for more details https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3r9ftg/defective_6p_screen_vs_normal/

The youtube test fails on my n5x, but not on my n5
I'm pretty happy with it. Improved compared to the Nexus 5(which was good too). Some owners have reported a very warm/yellowish screen but luckily I'm not having that issue. I rated it a 4/5 for saturation and accuracy which is as good as possible for a LCD.
EDIT: So I just did a side by side comparison between my Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X. Side by side the Nexus 5X is noticeably warmer but it's not overly warm and honestly, coming from someone who prefers displays on the cooler side because they look more life like, I actually would give the slight edge to the Nexus 5X. But like I said that is only side by side. With each phone on its own I can't really tell either one being too warm or too cool. As far as saturation goes the Nexus 5X is better. The colors on the Nexus 5 were noticeably more washed out compared to the Nexus 5X(although not that bad). I really see it in the red of the Chrome icon, the green of the Hangouts icon and the blue of the Facebook icon. It's still not AMOLED colors but closer than the Nexus 5.

No, but this is a kernel bug. Someone identified the commit in the reddit thread. So you wouldn't even need an entire ROM for a fix. A kernel fix should do it. I don't have enough posts to post in the kernel forums, but you should post in the elementalx kernel thread. The dev seems to be active in developing kernels for all the nexus phones.

Nexus 5 has a white point of just over 7000k, the 5X is almost bang on 6500k.
Like many have said, we are just used to seeing "cooler" colours in our phones. Nexus 5X is really accurate as far as colours go.

That is true though some 5x are arriving with extreme yellow tints which make them look like 5000k or even warmer. Anyone who gets one of these would be 100% correct in saying the device is too yellow, unfortunately since most people are so used to cold blue screens they might not even be able to tell which they received as compared to their old device even a proper 5x panel will probably look warm.
For example this was a replacement 5x device I received on the right which went straight back to Google.

Im fairly certain its addressed by kernels not roms... Personally i use Flar2's elemental kernel and have since the Original N5. With his app (which im happy to support) you have full colour controls including gamma. Which you can flash over stock or custom rom depending on your preference his kernel is in the Original Development section.
Nice colours
My last phone (lg g2) was ruining my eyes. Too cool blue with strong contrast. Overtime a screen with false colors and contrast can ruin your vision - making the real world seem dull.
The Nexus 5X is correct and easier on the eyes.
Well, it seems to me that default color is pumped, like vivid, almost neonic a bit and warm. Which is good I guess for the phone. Im not planning to do any color balancing and adjustments on my phone, I would use the PC for that kind of work of course.
Unbelievable nice!

Mine is generally not too bluish as other display floor models even under daylight (5000-6500 Kelvin).
Color is just right.
The screen is perfect, just have mine set up like this for a little bit of more contrast.

I just bought this phone Saturday and I love the whole big screen and 2nd screen but one question is making me doubtful about it. the images are so pixel or some what very contrast that it makes it look very contrast and some kind of blurriness not sharp. Can you help me with this.

Search for "screen color adjustment" in settings.
I like how natural the images are, they're not over saturated ... they appear sharp and natural.
Go to google playstore download display calibration its an excellent app it akes a huge difference at any brightness level also download v10 hidden settings another great app no root required for either v10 is an awesome device had mine just under a year no equal in the camera dept. And just as quick to load apps games etc as my wifes s7

Ghosting
?
It's past 1 year mark.
The screen ghosting issue is so prominent that it's annoying.
This is well known in the.forum's but it's not something that lg is talking about.
I'm going to have to find out if there is a recall or can get this fixed.
Truly disappointed.

The color reproduction on the LG panels is actually *really* good. Samsung cranks the vibrancy and saturation up on their displays because it is pleasing to most people's eyes. If anything, Samsungs color reproduction is vastly inferior with default settings. Both class of panels can be calibrated to be more correct though.
The other thing is that LGs colors are "cooler" and Samsung *always* biases towards warmer displays.

I've tried to calibrate my display many time but even LG's display can't compete with Samsung's 2013 flagships display.

In what ways? And don't forget you are comparing an IPS-LCD to SAMOLED+ which will have vastly better blacks. LCDs can't yet compete on the contrast of an OLED.
I don't care what people want. They jump from one has to another and sacrifice utility for form at the drop of a hat.
I'll keep my color correct LCD that won't suffer from actual burn in
(My retention is all but nonexistent and that isn't permanent regardless)

By the way your retention problem can simply be fixed if you're rooted

You can try using the built-in Comfort View to make the display warmer. I set mine to high and it looks really close to my Galaxy Note 4, using the Basic display color option.

So I have the phone for two days already and I must say I'm a bit disappointed with the screen calibration.
The white has a grey greenish tint to it and even after playing with the advanced setting in the display mode moving all the way to cool color and taking the green bar all the way down to get a decent white.
In the cost of making everything look washed out.
Either I have a defective panel or it's the built in bule light filter Samsung are adding (even when blue light filter is off)
Any suggestions would be great

I have a thread about this. Many other people are reporting their Note 20 Ultra display is not as bright as their previous Samsung display.
Check out the thread with all the pictures from me and other people here...

512GB Black Unlocked Snapdragon USA Made in Korea model with yellowish tint making whites look yellow and colors are noticeably less vivid when compared to my Note 10+. Brightness is fine.
Despite what displaymate said, its not great. Especially
the white balance. It looks very grayish and a little yellowish. Even with brightness cranked up all the way and vivid color profile. My OnePlus 8 Pro looks much better. Also others have said the contrast and colors are much better on their Note 10+ too. The vivid profile should be much better than it is for a $1300 phone.
Screen tint
Do you see any screen tint when you looking at white or light grey background ? On about 40% brightness.
My first ultra snapdragon was yellowish second is fine. It's oled. That's what happens. There's variences
