Anyone know of a good quality usb charging cable that will charge the phone at full power, isn't super expensive, and is longer than the stock one? The one that comes with this phone is just too short for me. I even tried my galaxy nexus usb cable, but it the phone says it is charging at a slower rate.
I'm using my Charge's cable with the LG adapter and the charging is quick as heck. BTW, I went from the Charge to GNex to G2 as well lol. Loved each upgrade!!

I'm just using a cheap USB extension cable inbetween the LG charger and stock usb cable. Works fine, charges fast, doesn't give the "slow charge" notification.
I agree with the USB extension cable. I really dislike the durablity of micro USB, so I would rather use the stock cable with an extension than a cheaper built long cable.

I believe you need a usb 3.0 cable to not get the slow charge notification.

I have an HP Touchpad, and it comes with a cable that looks identical to this. When I try to charge my phone with it, I get the "not compatible" message and charging is disabled to prevent damage... The cable may be different on the inside, but I would think the tablet cable would allow faster charging than the phone.
Alright... so far I have come across 3 different charging scenarios.
Charging with fading red LED - fast charge
Charging with white LED - medium charge
Charging with white LED + message "slow charge" - slow charge
I hope my interpretation is correct. So far I'm using my 2A original Asus charger from transformer prime and USB2.0 Palm-pre cable (which I posted above) and I'm getting fast charge (red glows, super speed). Now I only have this setup at work.. so I'm bearing with medium charge at home.
Trying not to use the original charger/cable, so I can have high resell value

Yeah seems like usb 3.0 cables have an extra connector that is not compatible with the G2. Can you possibly confirm that the cable you recommend will charge at full speed with the OEM LG charger? I'm wondering if it's either the charger itself that needs a certain cable or if there is something specific to the cable itself like the gauge of wire that is affecting charging speed.
I think you have to use the charger> 1.5A with good cable

Alright.. one thing I can confirm is that the charging speed depends on the charger.. not the cable.
I tried my fave Palm pre cable which I recommend into a slow charger and the message "slow charging" did come up.
And I also used this cable to the port that gives me medium speed.. and true enough, it was charging with white light, without the "slow charging" message. It is clearly following the charger, not the cable.
Electrically I don't see how cable should affect this. I know Samsung devices charges faster if the data+ and data- pins are shorted. Not sure about these LG ones. However, charging happens simply on the +/-5V lines.. it can't get any more complex than this.

I just tested my McKal 2.1A charger, S3 original charger 1A and HTC original 1A charger.
All of these did not say slow charging, but they didn't have the glowing red LED (fast charging) either.
I guess I'm lucky I have my Asus transformer prime charger to get fast charging..
I know this Asus charger is a USB3 one, BUT only Asus propriety cable for the Prime tablet uses the USB3 pins. I'm sure that my cable is not a USB3 one.
I would like to know specifically a charger I can buy on Amazon prime preferably, that will fast charge... (car charger) I don't want to guess... so who has one that works- that you own and use and KNOW works.

I hate to argue with you, but that's not what I am seeing here.
Using the LG charger and cable, I get fast charge.
Using the LG charger and any other cable, it immediately gives me slow charge. I've tried about five different USB cables. A BlackBerry branded one, a Duracell one, the white Amazon Kindle one, an old HTC one, and my old GNex cable. The only one that gives me fast charge is the LG supplied cable.
I bought a USB power dongle that has selectable modes of operation (Samsung charge, Apple charge, and "data pass-through") and will deliver 2.1 amps from a standard USB port. It's Chinese made so I know there might be danger of blowing the power on a USB port, but it's what I've got to test with. I can't get this phone to fast charge in any mode at all. With the GNex, it charges fast. With my iPad, no sweat.
I can confirm this. Charging speed definitely depends on the cable. Here it's the same as with you - the only cable that delivers full charging speed (approx. 1600mAh according to BMW) is the supplied LG cable. The worst one (100mAh) is an old Kindle cable. All other cables I have are somewhere between that. None is "faster" than 1000mAh. The main visible difference between the LG cable and the other cables is the thickness. The LG cable is the most thickest. From my other cables, the ones that reaches approx. 1000mAh are also quite thick (but not as thick as the LG cable).
Then I received my free LG PD233 Photo Printer today (amazon preorder offering). It comes with a 1200mAh charger (the G2's charger has 1800mAh) and a very similar looking cable. It's a bit shorter and white. With this cable I have the same full charging performance.
So obviously LG spend some more cents on better-quality cables. However, given that there are plenty of high-power wall and car chargers (with 2000mAh and up) available on the market, one should assume that there should also be cables available that can be used with this chargers. I just didn't managed to find one yet.
I use a USB extension cable to charge the phone battery takes 5 hours, while normal rechargeable battery takes only 2 hours

I completely agree, I've also noticed is that the LG supplied cable is unusually thick gauge wire compared to other micro usb cables. It's 20 gauge wiring and fairly short, which means that it has extremely low resistance to current. I mean unusual, in that I literally cannot find any micro usb cables that thick for sale and I have been searching online. Part of the problem is that cables are usually not listed online in terms of the gauge of wire, which combines with the fact that micro usb cables that thick aren't common, yet. That's probably the reason that no cables that people are trying are working with the stock lg charger at full charge.
If anyone can find or knows where to buy 20 AWG micro usb cables or thicker, please post the source here.
The cable for the G2 is a lower gauge because of the higher amperage charge rate. Which is why the GNex (what i upgraded from too) cable charges slower, its only guaged to be sufficient enough to carry a .15A charge rate. The G2 charge rate is .3A, hence the reason why they used a larger cable.
So, the G2 can recognize the resistance and slow down charging on lower-gauge cables it seems? How very UA-approved of them...
Now, the hunt is on to find heavy gauge micro USB cable...

Guess I was wrong after all. Also something to note is that with my fast charging cable directly connected to the phone, all is well. When I run it through my Samsung S4 charging dock, it slows down.
Perhaps it's time to email LG about this? Would be a valuable question..
Also, I still stand by the fact that my palm-Pre cable is capable of fast charging, at least with my Asus transformer prime charger. I haven't even started using the original charger/cable..

Wanted to do a shoutout to TechMatte Inc for giving me a free sample unit of these micro usb to usb C adapters. I got them in exchange for my unbiased review. So:
First: This is a two pack for a pretty reasonable price. Right now, it's $5 a piece. Not bad.
Second: Quality: These are plastic, but very functional. I have a multitude of micro USB cables from previous phones, and it's nice to be able to have backups laying around, instead of having to buy a bunch of USB C cables now. I leave the adapter plugged into the micro usb cable, and plug the adapter into the phone. Pretty handy at making the old cables still work.
Caveats: Size. This is a plus and a minus-- they would be very easy to lose. Also, the plastic feel. These work very well, but I can also see them starting to fall apart with heavy daily use. Not sure, but it looks like they wouldn't survive abuse.

Can you tell us what chargers you've used this with? Any of the Anker IQ chargers at all? I was looking at these (or similar items) to reuse the Micro USB chargers I have everywhere. Does the phone report that it's plugged into AC (in the Battery info screen), and does it report "Charging" or "Charging Slowly" if you look at the lock screen?
I'd be concerned about using an adapter like this since it could be potentially placing more stress on the phone's USB-C female connector than it was designed to handle. I'd much rather see a short (say 3" or so) Micro USB F to USB-C M adapter cable, so the stress gets relieved a bit by the cable.

I just tested using 3 configurations:
Stock LG charger and Cable 5V3A:
"Charging Rapidly" at +2621mA/h
Anker 5V2.4A charger and USB-A to C cable:
"Charging Rapidly" at +1285mA/h
Anker 5V2.4A charger and USB-A to Micro USB cable with USB C adapter:
"Charging" at +1225mA/h
Any thoughts on what the software engineer from Google has to say about the adapter and what potential impact it may have on our devices?
I'm a Software Engineer on the Chrome OS team at Google on the Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C teams.
I bought these two USB-C to Micro USB adapters from TechMatte and found they do not work properly with the Chromebook Pixel.
Upon closer inspection by our engineering team here, we have determined that this adapter is not correctly following the USB Type C specification.

Specifically, these adapters do not charge the Chromebook Pixel 2015 because the adapters leave the C-C lines floating, where the specification requires a Rp pullup to Vbus to identify the cable as a legacy adapter or cable.
Please see the document named "USB Type-C Specification Release 1.1.pdf"
section 4.5.3.2.4 for a description of why the Rp pullup is necessary.
Please also see Section 4.11 and the following note :
1. For Rp when implemented in the USB Type-C plug on a USB Type-C to USB 3.1 Standard-A Cable
Assembly, a USB Type-C to USB 2.0 Standard-A Cable Assembly, a USB Type-C to USB 2.0 Micro-B
Receptacle Adapter Assembly or a USB Type-C captive cable connected to a USB host, a value of 56 k'
± 5% shall be used, in order to provide tolerance to IR drop on V BUS and GND in the cable assembly.
In other words, since you are creating a USB Type-C plug to a USB 2.0 Micro-B receptacle assembly, you must use a resistor of value 56k' as a pullup to Vbus. This cable does not do this.
Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide about why these adapters are problematic.
If you are a consumer looking for a cable that is compatible with Pixel, do not use this one.

Those who have their phone know the cable on the fast charger is 1 meter, which is not long enough to reach any table youd ever have a plug next to.
I tried two different type C -> Type C cables and neither would fast charge with the included wall wart.
Anyone find a longer cable that fast charges with our plugs? 2 meters would be great.
It's tough sledding hacking through all the different Amazon.com listings to get something with an actual USB 3.1 and 3A rating for a 2m cable. The ones I;ve seen are either out of stock, take forever to come from China or overpriced in the $25-30 range. Would love to hear from anyone that actually found one too.
I bought a type C to A from amazon for the computer and it charges rapidly on all my wall chargers down to 2.4 amp.

Monoprice 2.0 six foot c to c cable charges just as fast as the 3 foot cable that came with the phone. High quality stuff. The phone doesn't support higher than 2.0 anyway.

USB 2.0 refers to the data transmission standard and really nothing to do with charging amps. Although, to be USB 3.1 compliant, I think the cable needs to be fairly stout to handle the increased loads in both data speed and charging power. My guess is this cable is in fact 3.1, but someone made a mistake updating the title.

I understand that. Monoprice's 2.0 c to c cable supports up to 3A. No point in spending almost double the price on the 3.1 cable..

What I am saying is that it is hard to even trust the 3A rating with the conflicting statements on 2.0 vs 3.1. Do you have the cable and have tested it? That would be different.

Yes I do have the cable. Monoprice has that 3.1 description on all of their type c cables for some reason. The 2.0 3a cable works just fine.. I just went from 49% to 82% from when I went outside to winterize my boat and when I just went back in to check my phone, not sure how long that was, but a pretty short period of time. I usually put it on the charger when I turn on the TV at night and take it off when it hits 100% before I do to sleep.
I ordered this USB A to C one, http://.ebay.com/itm/261840366171 . The phone says Charging Rapidly. I have not done any data transfer with the computer, but upon plugging it in, the computer detected it ok. It ships from the US, but took a little while with standard shipping. Maybe almost a week;

It might say rapidly charging but I doubt it's as fast as the stock charger. I've used a USB-A to type C cable, got rapidly charging, but it was only max 1800 mAh as opposed to the 2800+ with the stock one.

I dunno about that. I have used a couple 2A Samsung USB chargers with type a to c cable and my phone charges almost as quickly as the stock charger at least in regards of empty to full. I think the difference between the stock and alternate high amp chargers that are around 2A is how quickly it can do a partial quick charge from say 0 to 50% but from 0 to 100% I haven't noticed much of a difference.

I got one of his cables to review... I got it to charge 2.2A + using a 2.4A charger. But I do think you are correct in that there probably isnt a 3A option with anything using USB TYPE-A. 3A seems to be the realm of pure USB TYPE-C.
I purchased this cable and it charges at the same rate as the short OEM cable supplied with the 5x.

Thanks but unfortunately i got it and it didnt work, it just says charging with the stock charger. That sucks because otherwise its a great length and a really nice cable, guess I will have to return it.

That's really odd. Mine registered fast charging immediately. I tested with Ampere multiple times and received the exact same reading with both cables.
I wanted to start a thread directly related to cables that are confirmed "charging rapidly." There are a handful of posts around here that talk about usb A to C but I had a hard time finding cables that actually brought the message up on my phone. Lastly before I start the list I wanted to mention that I understand the Nexus 5X I usb 2.0 only but just due to a future proofing mentality I prefer 3.0 cables.
I will update this thread accordingly as more people post results of cables that do support fast charging. During the testing make sure you are using a charger that supports high amperage output. I am using the following charger that supports 3.0 amp output per port.

I can confirm the techmatte cable is showing fast charging. I cannot confirm if the cable is actually to spec.

I totally understand. I have been reading all of the reviews that he has been posting. I will update the OP with approved cables later today if possible.
FWIW, the Juiced Systems cable shows 'Charging Rapidly' for me...

iOrange-E cable shows rapid charge for me. Cost of cable has gone way up though though since I picked up mine. Probably not worth it.

Interesting... I know for sure this cable did not show rapid charging on (2) Nexus 5X's that I tried it on. I was using a 3A charger. Are you sure it is the same one that is posted in the OP?

The charger is an iClever charger, don't have any details on it...
I have a Pecham branded A to C cable bought from Amazon for £6.59 so approx $10. Its well made, braided with metal housings for the connectors. Charging with this one shows Charging rapidly on the lockscreen.
I also have an A to C cable direct from the Google store £10 ($15) Also good quality but slimmer and much more flexible than the Pecham.
I only see Charging on the lockscreen using this one.
Despite the differences the Ampere app indicates a charge rate of Approx 1700mAH for both cables!
For these tests I used an Anker Powercore 20100 battery pack and an Anker 40W 5 port mains charger. charge rates were identical.

It is interesting that you were able to get this cable to register as charging rapidly. It is the exact same cable that I bought and returned and with a 3A charger it did not register as charging rapidly on my phone. For right now I will leave this cable in the category that it is in until further confirmation. I wonder if it is a charger specific thing?

I have added the Pecham cable to the OP. Thanks for the confirmation. I am getting the Google OEM cable A - C tomorrow. I will see if I can reproduce the results that you got with the OEM cable.

Up until tonight I didn't realize that charging rapidly does not show every time. I will dig into this further this week. I will also be adding the official OEM A to C cable from Google to the list.
I'm confused, I thought USB A to C can only suppose 2.4A max
You're using a charging brick that uses 3A output, does that mean .6A does not get used?

Ironically "fast charging cables" are just out-of-specification cables, so if you want them just pay $1 for cables on eBay.

The OEM Google cable display's fast charging and that is not out of spec. Really the purpose of this thread is to find cables that are actually following the USB spec and allowing the message "charging rapidly" to display on your phone. I understand that the max a cable that is to spec. will put out is 2.4A.

The OEM Google cable (USB-A to USB-C) does not fast charge when you plug it into a non-fast charging compatible source (such as a PC's USB ports).
Any USB-C cable should be capable of fast charging when plugged into an adapter rated for 3A current draw.
Cables that are not to spec will allow the phone to "charge rapidly" when it should not be charging rapidly.

I agree with that, but there are certain cables that still follow the A -> C spec and allow "charging rapidly" when paired with the proper charger. I know they won't be capable of the full 2.8A - 3.0A but they can allow a max of 2.4A, and that's something that is ok with me.
The 3 foot cable was confirmed working on the op3 forum, I have not tried that one but I have personally bought and tested the 6 foot and can confirm that it supports dash charging. At 6 bucks this is a very inexpensive option to extend the stock cable. It also fits very tightly and I am not worried about it coming apart. (At least for now.)

I have a 6ft monoprice extension that allows the phone to register dash charge but still only charges at standard rate. It's like the AC adapter can still tell the difference.

I have but I figured that the app was wrong because it showed that me using my old i-orange micro with a micro to c adapter and my samsung s7 brick that I was charging at the same speed as with the official dash charger (This being Ampere)

that's a bumper, ya im sure the 1+ dash charge cable has some kind of chip. an the USB A cable is a bit different if you look inside of it

I meant with Ampere both these setups show the same.
Samsung + micro + micro to c adapter
Stock + Stock cable
So I figured the app is not reading dash correctly if that other setup states the same speeds.

Extension cables work with QC2.0 and 3.0 perfectly fine. I used my monoprice 6ft USB3.0 with my Nexus 6 and it worked fine. Ampere registered about 2300mA with the N6 when quick charging. This was just about the same rating that I achieved with the stock cable and no extension.
The case of the OP3 is different. With the stock cable connected directly to the Dash Charger, Ampere registers about 3300-3400mA. With the 6ft extension in place, the phone shows "Dash Charging" on the lock screen and I get the blue Dash Charge LED charging light, but Ampere only registers about 1300mA charging.

BTW... If you get a 20 ft long "Dash cable'' probably the cable resistance will be so high that you could get max 300mA that's why 1+ will never produce 20ft USB..

I wasn't asking anything. I already know dash charge wasn't happening. I just want people to know that even though the phone registers "Dash Charging" on the lockscreen, it isn't really happening with an extension.
Nobody is asking OnePlus to produce a 20ft dash cable. There's just simply no reason why we shouldn't be able to get a 2M cable. The loss due to additional resistance would be negligible.

I personally hate the 1m (and even more so when it comes to shorter) cables. Can't play with the phone while charging, because no jacks are ever close enough that the cable reaches the closest seating option (orher than the all present floor ) . Even in office the charger is relatively close, but when I answer the phone the cable is too short.
2m would be perfection for me at least. I know it's too long for some, but then again I'm talking about a choice to order one.
And as biglilsteve said, there is no elecro-physical limit to this 2m cable, and if the heating (if resistance grows the cable heats more) should become an issue the cable could be designed to compensate it with thicker copper (and that would be something like 10%+20% thicker I assume)

Just got the 3m Sabrent extension in yesterday and very pleased with the speed. I'll take it.
Screenshot isn't uploading from my phone for some reason but I got 3010 mA on Ampere.
At this point I'm quite confused about it the ability to use a extension. I want to charge my OP3 comfortably. So if I buy a USB 3.0 extension from Anker, Aukey, Amazon Basics or another brand it will charge I know that. But it will be Dash Charge or Traditional charge? Thanks

Don't know about others, but I personally can tell you dash charge works with the extension mentioned in the OP. You lose a couple hundred mA of charging speed, but still get around 3000 mA, which is the speed that QC3.0 runs. Perfectly acceptable!
