[ROM] Unofficial CM 12.1 & 13.0 | G900R7 | Inland Cellular, C-Spire, nTelos, Nex-Tech
Description
I noticed that most CM based ROM's built for KLTE devices wouldn't flash to the G900R7 ACG variant. For some reason the system partition is a different size on this variant, so I decided to build a ROM for it that would flash. It should work for Inland Cellular, C-Spire, nTelos, Nex-Tech, Illinois Valley Cellular, James Valley and some other CDMA devices. I won't do nightly builds, but I will try to post updates every couple weeks.
Special thanks to lexridge for building the CM 13.0 version without errors. CM 13.0 is available now!
Update
Thanks to haggertk for submitting the BoardConfig.mk changes to the official CM repo. We can now flash and use the official KLTEUSC CM builds. You can download them here
Installation
Boot into recovery (TWRP recommended)
Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache
Flash ROM
Flash GAPPS (Link below)
Reboot
Installation of CM13 (notes from lexridge)
Please make a full backup before installing this. Also backup your APNs. You will need to restore them after flashing to get LTE data back.
Having to re-save your APNs when switching back and forth between Data and WiFi seems to be fixed and no longer necessary.
If you have problems with the OpenGapps, try flashing the Pico version. That is the only one I have tested.
The bluetooth skipping is mostly fixed in this one. It will still skip slightly when waking the screen up.
Be careful with your SDCard! Android 6 gives you the ability to use your SDCard as Internal storage. If you choose Internal rather than portable storage when it prompts you, all your data on your SDCard will be gone forever!
and as usual, install this at your own risk. Only you are responsible if your device bricks from not installing this correctly.
For those who are not familiar with the new features CM-13 has to offer, this link provides some very good information on it: http://www.androidbeat.com/2015/12/c...cm13-features/

EDIT: No data on C Spire.
EDIT: Well, I changed the preferred network type to Global, and now it's connecting. Are there any negative consequences to this setting?

Sweet! I have been waiting for something that might work with Ntelos for ages. I will give this a shot later tonight.
Thanks!

Not that I can think of. Strange it needs to be set to Global though instead of LTE/CDMA auto. Glad you got data working. I didn't have that issue with mine, but I'm using Inland Cellular.
EDIT. Does voice work with it set to global for you?

The only issue I've had so far is the audio will lag and stutter for a few seconds periodically while using bluetooth audio. I've done some searching, but only found a few cases mentioned. The only "solution" I found was in this thread. The thread he links to has an updated bootloader he says fixed his problem, but he has a G900F, and I'm afraid to try since I have a G900R.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

trying this on ntelos today will report back

Well, thanks for trying. I may give a different kernel a shot. This one looks promising. Maybe it'll help.
On another note, what was required to enable this to work with the klteacg variant? Could the same method be applied to other ROMs?

I am not so sure you can flash this using Odin. You have to flash it from TWRP.

nTelos
Verified it works om nTelos carrier
All I had to do was add the needed apn settings under more networks and bingo full 4g and cell
Loving this rom so far and everything works!!

Did you try his fix of adding "ro.bluetooth.request.master=true" to the bottom of the build.prop? I'm not sure it will do anything, but worth a shot.

When CM started compiling the system files into the "system.new.dat" files instead of a folder the ROM's would no longer flash to the ACG devices. Ours have a system partition size of 2440036352 where the other variants have a system size of 2831155200. When you'd go to flash it noticed the system partition was different and would fail. I changed the BOARD_SYSTEMIMAGE_PARTITION_SIZE in the BoardConfig.mk to 2440036352, and compiled it. I imagine that fix will work for all other CM based ROM's that use the system.new.dat format, but I don't know for sure.

I also have nTelos, but I have no data service whatsoever. Please explain in detail what you did here to make it work. I don't seem to have the "More Networks" setting anywhere that I can find. What APN settings did you apply?
My first instinct was to restore my APN settings, which I had backed up in June, and it totally screwed up the phone app. I then restored APNs from a January backup, and that fixed the phone app, but still no data.
Help please.

Did you try going to settings/mobile network/preferred network type and changing it to Global? That worked for hanman on C-Spire. The Access Point Names menu should be just below the System select menu on that same screen. Do you see that?

Okay, I found the menu with "reset to defaults". Should I chose any particular one of the four choices, or do I need to add one for nTelos?
Global did not work for me.

[Q] Razri - JellyAOSP 1.2 ROM and data only via wi-fi

Razr i XT890 JB - Bootloader was successfully unlocked and installed JellyAOSP 1.2
Now can only access data through wi-fi but can use the dialler.
Any help to solve this much appreciated.
Hi,
You should first check your APN configuration.
If your configuration is ok, then you should ask the rom dev if it's a known issue or not.

Many thanks Ciberbeb for replying.
I have entered and saved the correct APN settings so can send and receive calls.
It is only data via mobile network [wifi ok] that is the problem.
I can't post on Dev pages as I'm a noobie.
You're welcome
Actually, configuring your APN is needed to be able to use data over the mobile network.
You can check your mobile provider for a particular configuration for android.
That's all I can tell...
I may take a screenshot of my configuration but it's specific to my country and operator.
Thanks Ciberbeb
My provider confirmed the correct APN details and they're saved - which is presumably why I can make and receive calls. Same details worked in my HTC for calls and data whereas this one onnly accepts wi-fi.
You're welcome
Alright, so that's weird ...
And does it work if you restore an nandroid of your original rom ?
If yes, then this may be a ROM issue, and you should contact the ROM cooker.

Thanks Ciberbeb for your thoughtful help.
I made the most basic error and didn't back up original ROM [and Moto not much help].
Now ditching the phone and back to old HTC
Really appreciated your input. Thanks
Ahh ! Always perform a nandroid backup prior to flashing !!
You should know this
Anyway, you can use RSD Lite to restore the original Moto rom.
I however don't really know the procedure, so you best read these topics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974568 for basics on Moto tools
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239706 for original firmwares
Take care with the tools, you're bootloader is unlocked, don't brick your phone!
You can try another rom as well, to confirm if it's a rom issue or not.
You can now push the thanks button
EDIT: You may try a factory reset before anything else. Did you wipe cache/data before flashing JellyAOSP?
Thanks Ciberbeb
Yes, not backing up was a huge mistake but not had any probs before so didn't this time.
Will look carefully at the links you've kindly found and have nothing to lose now so will try anything [well almost!].
Factory reset hasn't worked and Moto weren't helpful with software [understandabe really I suppose].
Did try two other ROMS [completely wiping system before each one] but they didn't install. Perhaps I've a rogue phone... or just a rogue user. LOL
Hitting Thanks... with much gratitude!
What's your problem, again? You don't have mobile network, like edge, h, 3g? If that's the case you need to set proper apns or get apns-conf.xml from another rom you know brings the ones you need. But it has nothing to do with making calls or sending texts, that's a signal thing.

Thanks Anerik for replying [and a brilliant ROM that is fast and clean].
My only problem was not being able to get data via 3G.
I manually entered the usual configs through the APN menu and saved it. When this didn't work I requested a new sim card [in case micro to nano was causing the issue] but the provider texted the apn installation file through for the new sim and I still have the same prob with no data in the Razri except through wifi.
This was the only ROM that installed cleanly and quickly so it is probably something stupid that I've done!
To save your time I'll clarify the following:
The bootloader procedure was successfully and cleanly executed.
The Root Checker confirmed this.
JellyASOP on SD card was installed easily on a fully wiped phone as your instructions.
No problem anywhere else when in wifi mode.
Thanks for your time and patience

Have tried reinserting sim and done a manual apn input. Will try location suggestion 2mrw.
Am sure it isn't your ROM and beginning to think it's a Motorola fault as I went down the rooting process because the phone wouldn't read a sim [which I think is a common fault].
Hitting thanks and just sorry it didn't sort out my Razri cos is a great prog you've written.

Wow, something has messed with your phone. Assuming Maximus downloaded correctly and you checked it MD5 to verify, then maybe your recovery may be causing some issues. Some versions of TWRP are writing in the wrong partition and resulting in missing OS, etc. This version might help. If this doesn't help, then you might have to go back to the stock rom to check if the issue is there. If it is, then you might have to send in your phone for servicing.

[INFO][HOW TO] Sprint Galaxy S4 Sim Unlock (SPH-L720/jfltespr) ATT/TMOBILE

There seems to be some confusion on the matter here in the forums.
Can I sim unlock my Sprint Galaxy S4 to use ATT/TMobile sims?
Yes
Can I do it using a Lollipop Rom?
Yes
Can I do it once I flash a KNOX bootloader?
Yes
Can I do it on OD2?
I don't think so, but maybe... The best bet is to use NG2 and then experiment from there...
Can I do it without reading/paying attention/following directions?
No.. but if you made it here, you're doing OK so far...
First off, there are 2 kinds of SIM unlock for the SPH-L720. International unlock, and domestic unlock. We will cover both.
To unlock for international carriers SIMs, you have a couple of options.
a. Have sprint unlock it for you
b. Do it yourself.
I prefer b, almost always.
Lets start off with what you'll need:
Drivers for the phone, I'm too lazy to find those, but if you can't, you are way out of your depth here.
SSU.apk from here.
An NG2 Stock Rom (modem and ROM) here is an Odin tar that i used when I did it.
Odin from the same post that tar came from... (here)
TWRP recovery in tar format from here (i used 2.8.4.0, but I don't think that matters)
adb ( i use this minimal adb installer but any adb install will work.)
THIS WILL PROBABLY WIPE ALL YOUR DATA.
Put your phone in Download mode (Power + Vol Down)
Open Odin
Click the PDA button, choose the tar.md5 file you're flashing. (the stock ROM from earlier)
Uncheck Auto Reboot
Plug in a decent USB cable, from the phone to the PC
Hit start
It will take a few minutes, no worries unless you get an error.
When it is done, Hold Power + Vol Down until the phone reboots into download mode again
Click PDA in Odin and load the TWRP tar you downloaded earlier.
Hit start. This will take significantly less time.
When it is finished, Hold Power + Vol Up to reboot into recovery.
When TWRP is fully loaded, click reboot then reboot system.
It will tell you that the ROM is not rooted, and ask if you want to do that. (if you used the tar from above) and of course we want to, so let it.
Let the phone fully boot up.
Goto Settings, More, About Phone.
Find the line that says Build Number, click that line a bunch of times until it says "You are now a developer".
Now hit back, and goto Developer Settings.
Find Debugging mode and enable it.
Using adb
Code:
adb devices
that will respond with whether it finds your device or not.
Code:
adb install /path/to/SSU.apk
that will install SSU.apk from earlier..
You'll want to have the screen of your phone on for this part because you will need to approve your PC to connect.
Goto your app drawer, and run SSU
Click the Unlock button
Now your phone is SIM unlocked for international carriers... But what if you want domestic carriers too?
Unlocking for Domestic Carriers
First things first, you have to do the International Unlock explained above (you didnt think you were gonna get out of that did you?)
After that, load ADB back up
Code:
adb shell
Code:
su
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://27663368378
That will pop up a menu on your phone
Click (UMTS) then (DEBUG SCREEN) then (PHONE CONTROL) then (NETWORK CONTROL) then (GCF) then the top option.
Now reboot.
You are now unlocked Internationally and Domestically. Goto your mobile network settings and put your apn settings in (if they arent already there off the sim) and you should have data too.
From here you have a couple of choices.
a. Stay on NG2
b. Goto another ROM (i usually just flash CM at this point, YMMV)
c. experiment yourself and try to use OD2 (I've heard flashing the OD2 modem relocks it, didnt try because I didn't want OD2)
If you stay on NG2 then I suggest this apk to Stop the Sprint Hands Free Activation from nagging the **** out of you..
NOTE: as of tonight, any CM12.1 nightly after 6/23 causes a No Sim card error. This has nothing to do with the unlock, its just messed up, so until its fixed use the 6/23 nightly.
Hopefully that answers some of the questions I keep getting in PMs and what not.. If you have any question, feel free to ask.
I might not answer them, because I rarely frequent the forums anymore, but lots of people here can probably answer the questions you have.
Thanks to @autoprime he's the one that found the original unlock for this phone, and tons of others.
Thanks to @random45 for posting the ROM i used

And anyone else I forgot (I'm sure I did)
I would probably recommend removing all references to rooting since it's not necessary. Some may only want to unlock, not root.
Substitute the dialer code for the terminal command when it comes to launching the service menu.
And putting the apk on the phone's storage and installing it with a file explorer is probably easier than adb install, for most people.

I just documented what I did. there is no one way to do it. you are more than welcome to document them in your post if you want.
I'm going to try this today and will report back. I switched to tmobile and got the s6 edge and since my sprint contract was up I was able to keep my device. Now I want to get it to my mom who has a beat down metro pcs device. In theory since metro is tmobile it should work right?

If metropcs uses sim cards, and the Bands that the GS4 has, then yes it should work. You'll obviously need APN settings for data.
So this method you need to be on KitKat in order for Suu to work. I also can't get a hold of galaxytools as the developer wants you to buy it now.
Also any ideas how to do the domestic unlock without adb?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
I don't use galaxy tools, and if you aren't on kit Kat yet, you can revert the modem and use the original unlock posted by autoprime.. Or you could just flash the rom I linked too, which is lollipop, not the newest but works fine.
And as far as adb, you can just use a terminal app.. Except for installing ssu.apk, but you could just push that to your phone and install it with a file manager
I followed the above steps and still can't get it to work. Im back on kitkat and unlocked the sim. Did the terminal command and followed those steps. rebooted and under About Phone> Status it still says sprint and shows my old phone number that was tied to my sprint account. Am i missing something? I went to settings and changed to gsm/utms and tried that but nothing.
Did you put a sim card in?
Yes it was a metro pcs sim. I spent a couple hours tinkering with different steps from older threads and still could not figure it out.
Metro is unique in that you can't switch phones just by popping a SIM in.
You have to contact them and have them register the new IMEI to the phone number

How are Data speeds?
This is great thank you for posting this detailed one. If i can't figure out how to get my phone working right I'll flash stock firmware and start OP's process. Can you tell me what data speeds are you getting? I've got mine unlocked and working by changing my modem and using s4 flasher among changing other settings. It's a Sprint S4 L720 going to Tmobile. I'm only getting Edge speeds of .08 mbps and the voice is sometimes garbled. I'm not sure how I can get it unlocked and working well with everything working and getting the HSPA+ speeds. I live in a 4gLTE area so I should get at least 3g speed according to tmobile's coverage map using 72703 zip code. Trying to figure this out if anyone has suggestions on how to get out of EDGE speeds, the 2G EDGE capabilities are appalling. I haven't flashed any custom ROMS btw.

I only used it on att, but if your speeds are low then TMobile in your area probably operates on a frequency the s4 doesn't use.. Or your apn is wrong, idk which.

1. Make sure modem version matches software version
2. Make sure network mode is set to WCMDA preferred or GSM/UMTS.
3. Check Settings->About phone->Network to make sure you're actually on EDGE.
You could live in an area that T-Mo hasn't refarmed to 1900 yet. If that's the case, they're running HSPA on 1700 there, and the phone doesn't have that frequency. So that would explain only being able to get EDGE

[NOVUS][INFO][JFLTESPR][Sprint/Boost Mobile APN-FLASH *SPARK*]

I spent the last few days on my phone learning all about flashing Cyanogenmod, the differences between SPH-L720/SPH-L720T and wanted to put everything I learned about my experience in one thread as it is pulled from countless sites.
I have the Boost Mobile Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T, rooted, flashed CM13(unofficial) with LTE Triband aka "Spark" working, confirmed.
Here is what I know:
1) Sprint Mobile and Boost Mobile are all on the same frequency's.
2) jfltespr Rom for the SPH-L720 also works on SPH-L720T. It's only a Rom, zero difference between the "T" version and regular in terms of the OS, the "T" is hardware.
3) The difference between SPH-L720 and SPH-L720T hardware wise is that the SPH-L720T can receive multiple channels for downloading on the LTE network and the SPH-L720 can only do one, This is the "Enhanced LTE" or "Spark" you hear about.
4) For Boost Mobile, Installing the jfltespr Sprint build for the SPH-L720 or SPH-L720T will not work out of the box. You need to flash the Universal_Boost_APN_Fix-R2.2.zip. After loading in the CM Zip, zip this as well. If you forget, no biggie go back and do it after. This will fix your APN's, label your carrier correctly, which in turn allow you to use LTE, MMS, Triband aka "Spark" (You will not see the spark spiny thing, but it will work, keep reading). Also, side note you may need to wait and/or restart your phone a few times after you are set up with CM. Basically your phone needs to send info to the carrier tower and it all needs to sync up. Mine was fully working in under 20 mins. It's like when you activate a phone for the first time is all.
5) To verify the Triband or "Spark" is working download LTE Discovery App. The Triband or "Spark" Network runs on 800mhz Band 26 for voice, 1900mhz Band: 25 for Up/Down Data, and 2500mhz Band 41 for Down Data but at a higher DL rate. See these articles for more details, Sprint Network Explained, Frequency Faq's
UPDATE: I changed a setting in the MMS, turns out Boost Mobile requires a Username for mobile data to work correctly. This is now Ver. 2.2.

Hi there. What do you mean by "zip this as well"? Do you mean upon fresh installing CM we should also add the "Universal Boost APN" zip at the same time (in TWRP for example)?
I am guessing my issue is totally different, but thought I would ask anyways. I have a Samsung S4 on RingPlus (not Boost, but still an MNVO on Sprint). I have CM12 installed. everything works great except MMS. I can send normal text but cannot send (or receive) photos/multimedia. It complains about APN settings. I have a fresh CM installed so I'm willing to try anything to trial and error this thing.
Thanks for any ideas.

You can flash at the time you install the rom to save the APNs as default, or you can zip any time. However, if you flash after the install your default will be whatever CM's where.
This zip may not fully work for you then, but I did do some googling for you and found this below, if those apn settings work, let me know and I'll try to make a zip for you for future roms and quick flashing

Did you clear the data, cache and delvik cache first? The only reason I ask is because I made that mistake trying to "test a flash" before I lost all my stuff. Remember, you'll only have the space for the micro Gapps without re-partitioning.
Also, the Boost APN fix didn't work for me, nor the other 9 or so that I tried. Then I came across an old thread where I made a fix for the APN on my old Cyanogenmod setup with my L720 piggybacked off the work of mopedryder. , and I'll be damned. Still works even on my replacement L720T.
Not sure why, but this isn't working with the "Official" build.... Looking into this..
Yea, I was having a bear of a time with the MMS and APN stuff. It looks like they pushed some changes that messed with the "Boost APN fix R2 and also my old fix. What I found works now was hand editing the apns-conf.xml file to just the basics. Nothing but a boost apn and a very cdma apns just in case. Flash rom, flash gapps. After it booted, I copied that in to the /system/etc folder over the old one with file explorer, fixed permissions to match the old file and boom... MMS and LTE after reboot. You can give it a try if you want. Just unzip and copy/paste where I said. Let me know what you get if you try it. Also, let me know if you can edit APN settings while on wifi with this. Just curious. If it works, we can throw it in a flashable zip to flash after gapps.
MMS and LTE working!
I used the flash link provided in this thread Universal_Boost_APN_Fix-R2-2.zip This got me LTE, but still no MMS.
I followed the instructions in the last post, but they didn't work. I kept trying, and had no luck...this was before trying the flash file above.
After getting LTE, I decided to see what I could find inside of the apns-conf file. I checked out the settings and then did some searches for APN settings and found that the line for APN type was potentially misconfigured, so I edited it manually in the apns-conf file, because I REALLY didn't want to flash my phone for the umpteenth time. I also changed the bearer number to "0"
The previous type was: "default,supl,mms,dun,fota"
The type I found through apn.gishan.net was: "default, admin, fota, mms, supl, hipri"
Once I changed that in both lines that the type appeared in and changed the bearer numbers to "0" my MMS started working, as well.
Hope this helps someone out there so they don't have to search as long as I did.
Sprint Samsung Galaxy s4 moved to Boost Mobile
Icky Samsung system, I will not miss you.
Hi everyone, kinda new to the S4 forums. (not Android dev) my current daily driver is a SPARK on boost (running cm13) and my wife has the L720 also on boost. So given that I have the rare opportunity to dig into both activated devices and collect all the radio/modem/APN data from them in order to help this thread and maybe actually contribute something instead of just lurking and reading
So after about 3 weeks of digging and testing and comparing, also trying the edits suggested above on what works for them I have found the proper network settings in the apn-conf.xml. my attempt was to get them as close to the stock ok3 apns as possible and they are very close. MMS works great, LTE shows up right after boot. I also found that after flashing Unerversal_Boost_APN_fix.zip, sometimes mobile data (LTE) would not come back after WiFi was on and then disconnected like when l left the house for work. Toggling airplane mode did no good. Only a reboot would get LTE back. That problem seems to be solved too.
I also took apart the Universal_Boost_APN_fix.zip provided in the op, studied and compared it to stock files and my ok3 modem logs.
In the fixprop.sh, the
sed -i 's/ro.telephony.default_network=.*$/ro.telephony.default_network=8/' /system/build.prop
Command sets the build.prop ro.telephony.default_network to =8
But in both L720 and SPARK, stock boost ok3 the network is =10 so I edited that.
Also I found that
sed -i 's/gsm.operator.numeric.*$/gsm.operator.numeric=311870/' /system/build.prop
Makes the build.prop call for the apns with the numeric tag =311870. but in the apn_conf.xml the apn numeric tag was = 310120 so I just changed the apn to =311870 so now the build.prop will set the right apns on boot.
Something else I found when reading modem logs from both the L720 and the spark is that in the spark, the modem actually calls for
ro.product.name=jflterefreshspr and ro.build.product=jflterefreshspr from the build.prop
I never could find out why it would need that ( and I tried) but my deductive reasoning tells me that it must have to do with initiating tri-band traffic somehow on the network. It only happens on boot but never after that. The L720 ok3 modem does not call for a name from the build.prop at all. So I added commands to the fixprop.sh to change some of the values to the =jflterefreshspr SPARK name and =L720T in the build.prop as well.
Of course, that makes the install.zip proprietary and not unerversal anymore and L720 users would need there own version so here's what I have guys.
All credits go to the original creators of these scripts. All I did was make a few changes.
Flash cm13, gapps(or not), then the APN.zip and reboot.
Note: You might notice after a reboot that the carrier will display as "sprint" but toggling airplane mode then displays "boost mobile" don't worry, it's just a display issue. network and mobile data work with no issues. I think it's something in cm13. started happening around 07/09 nightly
Sorry for the long drawn out post!! :silly:

Will this work with other ROMs as well, or only CM?
I want to flash Wicked X, but I'm on boost.
The apn.zips should work on any AOSP ROM.
Not for TouchWiz ROMs
You don't need it for WickedX.
WickedX will install BoostID and set your apn settings right after it boots the first time just like stock boost ROM. After all, it is just the stock Samsung firmware with a bunch of mods added to it.
AOSP(CyanogenMod) is NOT Samsung firmware. It is compiled completely from a different source which is why the .zips are needed
If you're running CM13 stock, CM doesn't use muppets, with my build I did, so might be tempted to do a build soon, might not, truth be told I kinda gave up because of how much of a pain in the ass CDMA and MVNO's are becoming.

UPDATED
These have been tested extensively on both models.
Cell network, MMS, and switching between wifi & cell 3G and LTE work flawlessly.
I've edited them so they can be dirty flashed with ROM updates. They actually seem to work better after a dirty flash now.
Instructions:
In recovery,
Wipe: system, data, cache
Install/flash cm13 nightly.zip
Install/flash Gapps
Install/flash Boost_APNs_(your device).zip
Reboot

no cellular network

Hi there:
I had a rooted nexus 6 with Android 6.
I was playing with chmod and root and messed up some system permissions.
I have re-installed several Nexus 6 Google images 5.1 6.0 etc...
I have everything except cellular signal. It says no service and sometimes no sim card.
I have taken my sim and put it in another phone and it worked.
When I go to *#*#4636#*#*
It says GSM: emergency service only and GPRS service: disconnected.
I tried to change the network type to GSM only and others with no success.
Any help to further diagnose this would be appreciated..
Thanks

Very good point.
When I flashed 6.0.1
under cellular network settings , I only see Data raoming, Preferred network type and System select.
no APN settings
When I re-flashed 5.0.1 , I could see the apn settings, but when I go to it, it says something like that the user doesn't have permission to view the settings. I even tried to add a new settings and save it, but the message stayed there and I see no APN list at all..
I might have messed up the APN permissions with chmod, but I would think a system re-flash would have corrected it..
Thanks
