Bad gaming graphics lag for 8.0 - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am kinda new to android device. Been using apple all the while. Just recently bought a tab s2 8.0 for my new mmorpg game. I am actually experiencing graphics lag when there are lots of skills cast. I have tried both ipad mini 3 and it was a lot smoother. I could not figure out why as tab s2 specs are definitely better than ipad mini 3. Anybody can guide me on how to reduce my game graphics lag on my tab s2?

Have a look at the Game Tuner app (get it from the play store). You can use that to change both the graphics resolution and the frame rate in many games. It might help you tweak things to work better with your game.
It helped me fix up a screen size/zoom issue with Simpsons - Tapped Out and I'm now using it on a few other games to give crisper graphics and better response.

My Own LG 2x GLbenchmark VS Exynos

i only bought the lg 2x for 3 weeks, and this is sad to watch.
However, i don't see the point of the gpu being such powerful, since android does not have any thing to push the gpu at all besides benchmark. This is a good way to make myself feel better.
I would like to know is there difference between Tegra 2 cpu vs Exynos cpu at all?? besides Exynos gpu being so much more powerful than Tegra 2?
Thanks

oh thats just terrible
Now my O2x are completely useless - it will just stop functioning im sure
No wait - thats not right - whats happening, it still works ? My games still play, I can still read the news, I can still do all the things I did yesterday.
It's just a benchmark - does it really matter that much ?
Those are just numbers in my opinion.

I might have wrong, but that benchmark is made for mobile gpus and tegra 2 is not like normal mobile gpus it's more like a desktop gpu. A eight core gpu can't be beaten by a quad core or?
Tegra is our one, probably futile, hope of future proofing our phones.

Don't expect Tegra to lead benchmarks for a while until mobile graphics are more geared towards immediate mode rendering (Stuff more like PC graphics.). Everyone else uses Tile-based rendering. I believe NVidia did this to avoid changing the rendering (which changes the drivers even more and etc) once they reach "console-level" graphics. The Tegra 2 will excel in a few things. Don't expect it to be the best performer for now. Expect it to be a capable one.
Don't forget. SGS II is capped to 60fps and we won't know what it's truly capable of
I've seen several gaming videos and the tegra walks all over the Orion. I do agree that push for tegras are the last hope for a unified gaming platform and I think it will work. Nvidia has this backed and will see it through.
i am really sick of the fact every android phone has its own different games on each platform. same game cant be run on different android phones. this is stupid.
its one of the reasons i like Nvidia. they are trying to do something good here for once. you see all those samsung galaxy S2 hardware. but where all the games ? those same games i can play on nexus S. with good frames too. however with nvidia and tegra 2, the users are getting exclusive games that can take advantage of the hardware. thats nice for a change.
let the galaxy S2 owners have fun with there powerful phone on paper. at the end of the day. the Tegra 2 owners are the people who are getting the best looking games.
i am not saying i hate S2. because i will buy it as soon as i can. i love super amoled and the techs for the phone. but if i want a pure gaming phone. tegra 2 wins hands down. not because its the most powerful. but because there are exclusive games that take advantage of that GPU.
wrong thread...........

No their not, they're taking games already under development which Android users were going to see anyway regardless of nvidia's involvement and paying the developers off to make them exclusive titles, this is a bad thing as most Android users will lose out because of it.
One of the Tegra 2 only pinball games once cracked works fine on a legend ffs!
Benchmarks are just numbers. Real life performance is what counts.

this video shows at how the flash player performance is on web browsing watching a video and at this point watching an anime on both phones
so you can see that samsung galaxy with exynos and with 1.2ghz against lg2x nvidia tegra2 with 1ghz and lg optimus 2x seems for me faster for playing videos at this ..!i wanna only know if lg use stock 2.2.2 at this video against samsung galaxy s2 2.3.3 stock
lets compare those two videos and see that there are no differences between samsung s 2 and lg2x
and again dont forget...lg 2x has stock 2.2.2 rom
samsung galaxy s 2 has gingerbread 2.3.3 wich supposed to be faster..
think that when lg 2x will get official ginger 2.3.4 at this summer

True, and Nvidia is causing fragmentation by using their own compression formats. Afaik Mali supports the one and only standard format, but that don't help much when Nvidia is paying off devs to use their proprietary stuff. Yeah not very techical i know, but check out the SGS2 thread for more info.

Suitable for playing games?

My 15 year old nephew wants a mobile phone and I was thinking of suggesting this one, the mini. His basic use apart from phone calls will be playing games. Is the mini worth it? Can it play games well. He has a net connection at home and can download using WiFi so that is not an issue. Is the processor and GPU good enough? Can the memory store many games?
Apart from this there don't seem many choices in this price range for Android phones and I feel Android is the best choice.
If anyone has other phone suggestions, please let me know.
if u r intrested in high graphics games..den it lags..high graphics games lags in this device..

Don't know much about which games are high graphics. Can he play simple games like Angry Birds? Which games would lag?
Any other phone suggestion in similar price range?

It's been specially optimized for Tegra 2, doubt there's been much love given to the Adreno 220 yet.
Your 10.1 owning friends will be able to play Tegra 2 enahnced games that you cant, but you will be able to play back all kinds of video files at full frame rates and qualities, and they will not be able to on their tegra 2's.
The qualcom chip in our lte 8.9's is faster all around also, in addition to having the NEON instructions that allow hardware acceleration of mpeg4.
I just fixed it!
Version 1.0 works beautifully (even with IPAD graphics). You can find the fix for IPAD graphics on this forum.
Version 1.2 however lags terribly, but works extremely fast on a galaxy SII (standard international model).
Have fun!

How has your experience been with 3D Performance & Emulators?

For those of you that already have your handsets, how has your experience been with the performance of 3D games and more intensive emulators? Have there been any games that have shown noticeable choppiness or sluggishness?
Edit: I read in another thread that Real Racing is giving Snapdragon owners problems. Also - I'm a bit curious as to how PPSSPP is treating people.
I have no issues running epsxe with open gl and all setting at maximum. Playing ff9 atm. Emulators shouldn't be an issue.
I just play Asphalt 8 on my Note 4 Exynos and it gets around 60fps at max settings.
I try few 3D games in my Exynos N910C include Real Racing 3 and Death Trigger 2. So far so great. No issue.

Could you post gamebench prints of the performance on some games?
Another gamebench video (exynos)
My device is finally here and it performs great (Exynos - C version)! But it gets warm (just warm no hot) fast and the throttle is very strong!! My Antutu after playing minion rush for 10 minutes was 35k and after a lot of gaming my GFX T-rex on-screen was 8 and off screen was 16. With the phone unused I got 25 and 37 fps for each of them. It is hot here (28C = 82F) but this throttle is too powerful! I'd rather have the phone getting hotter with better performance. Don't know if that would be possible.
The Galaxy Note 4 has a terrible 3d performance, i imagine it is because it is rendering at 1440, my HTC One M7 did far better at 1080. A few games that are jittery messes are anything GTA and also Gangstar, not impressed at all. Perhaps somebody will hack it so that it renders at a lower resolution, because really the snapdragon 805 is not up to intense 3d games at native resolution.
I have better gaming experience in Asphalt 8 with the Note 4 Exynos+1440p than with my Note 3 Qualcomm+1080p.

I'm using NOMone Resolution Changer to set display to 1080p to play games. When you change the resolution everything looks wrong (big icons and etc) but the games are actually perfect but less pixels to push so better performance. If you are rooted and mind gaming performance, this is a must have.
Just curious - since this is the one thing that might make me change my mind about not rooting my phone - Does NOMone Resolution Changer know to automatically change the resolution only when a game is specifically opened? Or do you need to change the resolution first - and then start the game?
For the guy saying that GTA is stuttery.. its nothing to do with the resolution. Its all to do with heat and the Samsung DVFS voltage and frequency control.
With DVFS enabled after a few mins of GTA it slows down a little bit and starts to get stuttery because it throttles too easy and underclocks the CPU and GPU by about half.
If your rooted and disable DVFS you get the full GPU and CPU speed in games like GTA vice city and its extremely fluid.

Second option unfortunately. If you find an application that does that, please tell me. I didn't look for it though as NOMone is working great and I'm a bit afraid of messing with the resolution too much.
Just got myself an exynos note 4. Very nice phone but aside from a little touchwiz stutter, games such as real racing 3 and clash of clans stutter. My nexus 4 ran them fine. Did a quick antutu benchmark to see whats up and this is what i got without flight mode on. What do you think? Benchmarks say my phone should handle them with ease but thats not the case. Anyone with a solution?

Probably some rogue app you got running. Reset like he said or restart. No stutter on this old games so no fix required. Emulators have been good tho getting over 30fps in a few n64 games mupen64 that have tried, dolphin still not the best speed. DraStic was made for the note line. Runs awesome with each game I have.
Has to be coc related. I read a few reviews on the play store from note 4 users who have seen this as well. Much more demanding games are running great so ill just wait on an update.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" 2016 with S pen performance drop/fps drop

I hate to say this, but the Tab A 10.1 is the worst device that i've ever had. Compared to my galaxy note 8.0, the performance (especially gaming) is BAD. But something is missing in here, because samsung J7 have same GPU, but with better gaming performance, even Dead Trigger 2 can be played very smoothly in J7. I do some simple experience to find out why this device is bad. First i download very low graphic game, Brave Fighter 2 (only 80mb), then i play it. When the game start, it run very well, but in few second the graphic is lagging, but when i minimize it, then maximize it, it run smooth, but only few second before the game start to stuttering again.
The tab A series was always considered "affordable" line. Do I have some gripes? Sure. No backlit buttons, lower res screen, some lag and weight but the S-Pen, and astounding battery life and micro SD support make it a great value especially if bought at $249. I don't game so it is great for everything else for me.

I think its a good device, but I have the same issue as the OP. Noticed that, for example, when I play Gear.Club, the first race runs without any frame rate issue, but if I try to play in the same track right after finish the first race, it start to lag (it goes from >30 FPS to less than 15 FPS...). If I minimize the game and open it again, it run without any frame rate issue for some moments, and then start to lag again. Maybe its just a software issue....
They just came your with an update to their Game Mode software, that may help. Personally, I'm finding it a great tablet for what I use it for: simple productivity apps; certain games (fallout shelter, etc.) and taking notes in my classes.
I have no complaints, particularly because I've not yet managed to kill the battery. 8+ hours of screen on time... With plenty of power left. I guess a 7wh battery will do that.
