Yes I noticed that. Pretty weird design approach.
What surprised me that speakerphone is also pretty weak.

[Q] Galaxy S3 4G Rear Speaker Crackle

Hi,
I have a new Galaxy S3 4G Titanium Grey model. When watching Linus Tech Tips on youtube his voice makes the rear speaker crackle on volume level 13-15. I can listen to music usually pretty good without any crackle issues. Can someone please test on there Galaxy S3 for me please.
PS. Have the speaker facing you when doing this test. It makes it easier to notice!

As does mine. I think the speaker is just to small for the things I am trying to do with it maybe.
My speaker also crackles when at full volume.

It seems mine crackles between volume levels 13 and 15 depending on the type of content being played. Mainly crackles on voices and such. Music seems to be unaffected.
Mine also crackles at speakerphone when set above half volume, anyone else have this when talking with people? it is annoying.
By the way to ,ost of us who still have original Rom,have the video demonstration, this is the best default thing to measure it.

HTC ONE microphone problems

I bought my ONE from amazon.de and, after 2 months, I cracked the screen:crying: .I called htc and they sent me to the official service in my country(Romania). The guys there replaced my htc one (to my big and pleasant surprise) with a new one.I updated it to 4.2.2, but I got some complaints about my voice not being heard loud enough on this new phone.I don't seem to rememeber to have had this on the original one.....
Is it the mic?Or something to do with the network?Anyone elese having similar problems with the microphone during calls?
P.S. By the way, does anybody know how to enable/disable noise cancelation on this phone?
What I've noticed is that my calls aren't as clear as on my Galaxy S3, not sure if noise cancellation is doing too much, but my calls are definitely more "muffled", in fact I almost always have to use my headset to hear people loud and clear. Loudspeaker mode works fine though
It's probably related to this:

Yes, I know about that, that is why I wanted to buy the phone as quick as possible, probably the first one, which I bought in april, was from the first batches, with that mic in it,and this one is not. But,stil, this doesn't explain the low volume....
I mean,I did a test: I put on a song on my ipad3 in a quiet room at about a quarter of the full volume and opened shazam on my htc one and got at about 1-1,5 meters away from the tablet. To my surprise, the mic recorded the sound and shazam recognized the song!!After this little experiment,my conclusion is that the mic is working ok,but, during the calls something is a little wrong!

yeah, you're right,it's like the person on the other phone is there, speaking in your ear!
But what about your voice,do you have problems making yourself heard to the other person?!

Volume of the ear speaker question

Is the volume of the ear speaker of the sony xperia z's very low or very loud?
Am i able to adjust it from software in the phone or not?
I want the ear speaker to have a good quality sound like the iphone 5s or 4 does and it should be loud for me to hear the sound of the person i am in a call with and the sound should never scatter. it should be between me and the person i am having the call with.
Do you think that the Xperia z is capable of doing that or would you suggest the iphone 4 instead.

Hello, thanks for the reply.
You know what, i have to explain what specific feature i am refering to. Im not talking about the earphones for listening to music. You know not the ones that plug into the ear phone round jack. Not those ones.
Im talking about the ear speaker for listening to somebodies voice when they call you or when you are talking to them over the phone. Also not the speaker for hearing music.
Dont you know what the phone speaker is? Thats the speaker located at the very top of the phone used to hear the persons voice whom you are talking to over the phone. NOT the loud speaker or the earphone.
Thanks.

Yes. Its loud During Calls. If we r in a silent place means others can hear the caller's voice..
and no idea about the second one

Again please make sure your not refering to the loud speaker were i can play an mp3 file from or a multimedia sound file from.
thanks bro..........

Low call volume?

I tried a phone call and the volume seems really low even at max volume. Anyone else have that issue?
Also, what about using simultaneous voice and data - does it require an update to work?
I seen some other people say that voice and data didn't work together. Are u kidding me? My old Note 2, Droid 4 and HTC One Max all had data while talking on the phone.

I too noticed low call volume. Boss got the phone same time I did and he says the same. Tried the trick of holding down volume to all the way low and then raising it and that still didnt fix it.
Loving the phone, but if I cant hear people unless its dead quiet, thats no good.
Speaker problems
I just picked up the 64gb! I love the phone...a lot! I notice the low volume on calls as well, but I think there is something more going on.
The speaker sounds absolutely horrible. There is no way this thing isn't defective. It sounds like an old speaker with a busted cone that makes the "tingy" noise. :crying: Just curious if anyone else is having this problem. I listened to the one in the store, but it was very noisy in there. I couldn't get a good gauge. I am going to go back and see what is up. These things happen, I just hope that is what it is. I powered up my Razr Maxx again and listened to see. It sounded great. Please be defective!!!

I noticed this too, my speaker sounded pretty "fuzzy". Haven't had much time to listen to the speaker.
I didn't call anyone yet but I tested a movie and it sounded great coming from an s4
I fixed my problem. Turn off the stupid equalizer for the phone speaker. Much louder for everything.

It's somewhere under the sound settings.
Yeah in the sound settings under Audio Effects.
It seems the call sound is coming from the upper right speaker not the whole speaker strip. I find it a bit loader with my ear closer to the top right corner. Seems a bit silly and i could be wrong but feels this way for me.

I agree - I think the sound is very low.
This is compared to a Galaxy S5 which I could basically set down, not use speakerphone, and still hear.
I'm also experiencing low volume in calls. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to return the phone. I've owned many smart phones and have never experienced this.
The only "workaround" that I've found is to hold the phone in an unnatural position slightly away from my ear and with my ear at the top corner of the phone, and even then the volume is still too low. Totally unacceptable. Did they never make a phone call during testing?? I hope this can somehow be addresses via a software update asap.

I'm thinking this can be solved by a software update. I agree though, the volume is quite concerning.

If we had root it would probably just be a build.prop edit... Oh well.
I'll be waiting for one or the other
So if I'm on BT and switch to speaker on phone instead of talking through the car, the speaker on the phone is super loud, nor van be turned down. Anyone else notice this?

You're right. Seems weird that its not in the middle but its fine if you put your ear to that corner
There are little notches on the left and right side of the grill, my suspicion is that there are "stereo" speakers with one located above each notch. They may also have the audio configured to split volume between the two speakers.
Each call I have had was on speaker phone, and the call quality for me was MUCH better than my G2 and much louder. I took a call today and did not use speaker, I too noticed at first that the call volume was extremely low, I was clicking the volume up constantly and no change. Finally I moved the phone around a bit on my ear until I found the sweet spot.
It seems the call comes from the side, possibly one of the stereo speakers, I believe I remember having to hold the phone on the right side to my ear to get the best volume. It is plenty loud though, just move it around a bit and you will figure it out! Hope this helps!

Red Magic 3 sound ?

Hi guys,
Playing a little with the Red Magic 3 I find the sound is really not what it should be.
It's like all distorted...
Is that an impression or do you guys have the same feeling about this ?
Or maybe as it is stereo with front speakers I just get to get used to that new sound direction ?
Regards.
It's bad indeed but not really distorted in my opinion, cheap front speakers, I rearly use them so i don't care.
Wrather listen to music with headphones.

Hi,
OK. So we agree that the sound is bad...
I don't use the speakers often either. So not a big deal.
And I guess for the price, compromises must be made...
I'm OK with that one...
Regards.
It's not too bad. It's loud but missing some low end. 3rd party equalizers don't seem to make much difference either.
Way better than the disasters in the Black Shark 2 though.

The DTS:X does not appear to be loaded on the global ROM, I wonder if the sound would improve with it. Can anyone with the CN ROM upload the DTS apk?
