Problems with incall volume and speaker - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
More than a month ago I sent my z3c to assistance because the magnetic charger sideburn was unsticking.
It came back a week later with a new one, all was perfect looking. But then a new problem appeared.
In the next days people started telling me that my voice was too weak during calls. I decided to check and have some tests. I found that my the voice at the other side of the call was really too weak and too low, not consistant, with interruptions, and that when i try to activate the speaker, it gets even worse. They can hear a loud background noise and the return of their voice, plus others rumors, with the result that having a normal call is almost impossible.
Since that moment, I already sent my phone twice to the service summing up to 4 times, (the first was this summer for the sim flap which couldn't close). I'm sending them emails every time explaining the problem; once they made an electrical fix, the second time they changed the logicboard, but the problem is still there.
I'd like to know if some of you has or had the same problem and how they fixed it. I asked to change mine with another but it seems like they don't want to.
It's always been stock, i don't think another rom could fix the problem
I want my phone operative... I even had to buy something else in the meantime otherwise i would have been for more than a month without a phone (I bought a OPX )
Thank you for the attention

Anyone?

Battery Kill - Vibrate latching? Problem!

Ok, so after loading "RUU_Kaiser_ATT_WWE_1.60.502.3_22.45.88._07_1.27.14.09_Ship.exe" for a couple days, tweaking a few things and adding a few software packages...
Yesterday, after leaving my desk for a while with the phone on the desk and unplugged after recent sync with desktop....
I come back and find my Tilt is really hot and totally dead!
Later in the day, last night and today...I noticed that on some email notifications, the vibrate latches in and won't stop until I wake up the screen!
Anyone else seen this? Need to decide whether to restore to factory condition, retest etc...or send back as defective.
Cheers and THANKS!
this has happened to me several times, I finally went off and set email alerts off which is annoying. This also happened on my other HTC phone 8125
This has happened a couple of times for me too on the totally stock ATT ROM.
Annoying but, since it's always with me, it's never gotten worse than "annoying".
Same problem here, since I don't want to disable the vibrating alert I just send a mail to HTC asking for a solution.
Hope they'll anwser.
I'll keep you posted.
Percentages...
Hmm, with these numbers (already)...it is difficult to determine if this is a quality control issue with a small percentage failure. Need some more replies and a comment from HTC!
I'm already inclined to tell AT&T to send me another one, especially since this issue has been experienced with the ship ROM, and it is less than 2-weeks old.
Also original rom and I had the problem from day one.
It's night over here in Belgium, but I won't wait from an answer from HTC. First thing tomorrow I'll call the shop where I've got it.
I've had this a couple of times on my UK Vario 3. It actually happened today.
The problem seems to span different roms and batches.
pjam
I've also have this problem so like most people I disabled the vibrate notification which isn't a fix but better than having it none stop vibrate. Hope they fix this for the Vario III as well as Kaiser
solution from a HTC dealer
I just called the shop where I purchased mine, and first thing the guy asks, "do you really need the vibrating warning? can't you just use a sound alert or something?"
After explaining that I really want it to work as mentioned, he went to ask.
When he came back he tried to convince me that it's normal with WM6. It's a feature. When asked wheter it's normal it sometimes works "correctly" en sometimes it keeps vibrating, he answered it's strange but normal.
Explaining that the battery gets really hot and so didn't help either. He was convinced it's normal. But he gave me a number of HTC. Not a Belgian nr so I'll first wait for an anwer via email till this afternoon.
Anwser from HTC
I just called to HTC Europe, and the woman on the phone said "oh that's not good".
But a solution? I'll have to send it in for repair.
Still waiting for an answer on my email I send to HTC. And if I'll send it in for repair I'll first call again for a better anwser than "that's not good".
But sorry no real solution yet!
seems like this is getting worse and worse for us. I am experiencing the same issue. I have had the phone for about a 3 weeks now. The first week everything was fine. Then this sporadic occurance of the steady vibrate with new text and email messages. It seems like the first 2 vibrating pulses go through fine but it gets hung up on the last one. Full stock att ship rom here as well.
I'll get after AT&T for a replacement tomorrow (GMT -5) and post their response.
Well, not much to report except AT&T gave no fuss and new Tilt is "in the mail". I would suggest even those who are outside the "return for new one" window, get after HTC and/or their provider to replace any units with this "defect"...
Maybe threaten class action... Good luck to all.
I called back to HTC support, explained the problem again. Also said that I'm not the only one but they are not aware of the problem. I'll have to send it in for repair.
So I called the repaircenter, and it would take 2 or 3 weeks.
Don't want to send him in for so long, so for now I'll try to live with it. Still hoping for a bugfix one day.

did u walk into an att store? or make a phone call to customer support? In either case how did you go about proving this was infact an issue?
I called AT&T premier phone support from a shopping mall while waiting for my better half to shop...it took about 1 minute to explain the issue.
Basically, I told them my phone needed to be replaced because it was defective and explained the manifestation (sometimes when email alerts are set to vibrate, the vibration does not stop and if I let it keep going, it kills the battery fast and overheats the unit).
I further explained that I researched the problem online and that is appears a small percentage of users are affected by the issue so that it is likely a manufaturing QA issue.
I also suggested that they send me a new unit versus a refurbished one, at least the first time around. They responded, "Oh, of course we will be sending you a new unit".
It took another two or three minutes on hold for the order to be setup, and I had an email in my Tilt inbox before we disconnected.
Overall the experience was excellent.
Same problem here. Mine is a Hong Kong unit that is HTC branded. Using it here in Canada with Rogers.
Note: I have installed Blackberry Connect 4 as well for connection to my corporate email.
If an message comes in, it will sit there and vibrate like mad until I wake it up. For now, I've disabled vibrate.

sounds very much like the typical idiot you find in such places
is it just email notifications that are affected, or does it happen on all types of notification, ie sms message?
Good question...
Right now I'm running Dutty's Tilt Beta 2 w/ touch and all is good actually. It turns out that the phone ring uses only one vibration (long) and is followed by sound, where as my email uses 3 short vibrations only.
I'm more inclined to reach and answer the phone, than I am to reach to read an email, plus the email gets 3 chances to improperly latch the vibrate.
So, I don't know if it really is only email, or if email manifests itself as the culprit only because it happens more often.
Others may be able to confirm this.
I will say though, I'v had Dutty's running for 24 hours, and although the weekend email volume is much lower for me, I would have expected it to happen again by now.
The whole thing is crazy, sometimes it bothers the hell out of me, and other days it just gets forgotten or I assume it is a glitch.
All in all, I like the phone enough to keep it in the end, even with this problem. However, I still think the numbers on this forum are low enough that I have a decent chance of not experiencing this "bug" with my new phone when it arrives.

I'm I buggered

I have 2 HTC diamond phones, one which I was using all the time the other I just kept in a box due to in being faulty.
Now yesterday for some unknown reason my main phone decided the it's touch screen would no longer work so after pressing on the screen with my thumbs (quite hard) I think I can carefully say I won't be using that handset again, well at lease for the purpose it was meant for.
Now the spare phone in the box, this phone worked find about from one thing - I could not hear incoming calls or people talking on the other end, they could hear me fine.
What my question is as both phone now have invalid warranties, was or is there any solution that could of resolved either of these problems.
PS: I'm now using my samsung D600 again well at least the battery last a lot longer
Cheers
Any ideas
removing the lcd and digitizer from the deaf phone and putting them on the
blind phone comes to mind `?
Thanx for your reply, but exactly how would I do that?

[Q] HTC One weird issue ? Network problems

Hi guys, I have a very strange issue with my HTC One regarding call reception, I've tried to search but can't really find anything so I hope this post is ok.
Firstly- I'm running the latest TrickDroid ROM, and whilst I'm 90% sure this problem existed on Stock there's still that 10% of me that isn't too sure.
Basically, whenever my girlfriend calls me, most of the time it doesn't show her contact name (it will if I ring her, however), and instead just display the phone number, but not with ANY OTHER CONTACT. (just realised the only thing I can think of differentiating her from any other contact is I have a direct dial widget on my homescreen for her)
Then, to make things even weirder, almost every time she tries to call me my phone will ring for a SPLIT SECOND, and then will cut out; and I won't have any missed calls.
She's told me about this for weeks now (she hates my phone, but I love it :<), but earlier I noticed what actually happens, as my phone was right in front of me.
When she calls, there is the split second ringtone, but then I noticed my network reception completely cuts out! This only lasts a few seconds then usually its fine, however there are times she's notified me that she's been trying to call for up to ten minutes to no avail (which I can see would be extremely frustrating).
Is my phone faulty? Should I take it back to Carphone Warehouse or is there anything I can try/do about it, also if anyone else has this problem I'd be intrigued to see how many!
Thanks guys, only flaw on a near-perfect handset!
no suggestions
Put back the stock Rom and see if it happens, you are the only one who can test it.
Also, try calling yourself from time to time either from a pc or another phone, the fact that it is your girlfriend calling doesn't have anything to do with it

I didnt see any name only numbers when people calling me, that was on trickdroid.
I went back to stock and the problem solves, now im using Revolution and no problem at all. So i think i choose something wrong in trickdroid or its a bug, but im glad with my revolution now.

The thing is, I'm so sure it was an issue on stock aswell, since I was on stock for at least a week before I flashed TrickDroid, and my girlfriend was complaining about my phone as soon as I got it.
You say my girlfriend calling has nothing to do with it, I shall repeat again it is ONLY her trying to ring me that causes this issue, I make and receive a lot of phone calls and have a very active social life - my unlimited minutes tariff reflects this, and only when she calls does this strange problem occur.
The fact her contact doesn't display is just a minor problem I can live with, I'm more concerned about the fact that when she calls my reception drops almost instantly.
It must be a coincidence then because there is no logical explanation to this

is fast dormancy a thing that could be concerned? can't quite understand it as i'm not quite sobre at the moment but this seems like it could be related?

Call quality - going silent from the other end?

Hello,
I have the UK unlocked HTC One, currently running Android Revolution HD 12.2. I've been experiencing really poor call quality - as well as the person I am calling being very quiet, apparently from the other end I simply 'cut out' with some regularity. This happens whether or not there is a case on the phone (although neither of my cases blocks the hole on the back for noise cancelling.) Today, for example, I had to call one person three times before they could hear me, but I also cut out mid conversation at points.
This is getting seriously irritating. Is there any way that I can prove that this is happening - any mic tests etc that can be done? Or is my only chance to go back to stock, take it into the shop, and hope they can replicate the issue?
Cheers for any advice!

Is there any chance that this issue could be solved by flashing a different Radio? I'm on EE UK, using their LTE network, and I'm not sure which radio would be best for battery/connection! I'm currently running Android HD 20.1.
Thanks very much for any advice!

I get this aswell, I'm on Tesco which is O2 but often the other person says they didn't hear me, like it went silent for a second or so. I read somewhere about holding the phone and covering the mic as a possible cause but I know I don't hold anywhere near the bottom of the phone. Every single time I make a call aswell there's like a 2 second pause before anybody can hear me, this bugs me also.
I haven't seen a solution anywhere so I too would like an answer.

That sounds like the exact same problem, and it happens whether or not I'm using a case. I'm *definitely* not covering the cut-out on the back either.
I'm going to try flashing the Orange UK radio, will report back on whether or not it works!
Dont see flashing to a different radio working.
I had my fully updated stock HTC One develop a problem with the Mic about a month ago, so i sent it back. HTC couldn't fix it so sent me a new one....just three days later that developed exactly the same problem.

How did you test the problem? I'm having trouble flashing the radio and the problem is sufficiently intermittent that I'm going to have a hard time proving it when I take it back to the shop.
If the problem is intermittent then i doubt you have the problem, once i got it it never went away.

Broken Microphone/Speaker?

Hi guys,
Got a gold HTC One Mini 2 about one month old, pretty much brand new, When I make calls I cannot hear what they're saying and sometimes they can not hear me. It's only sometimes when I can hear somebody but sometimes the person I'm calling can't hear me and it's just a crackling noise.
It's running android 4.4.2.
I was just wondering if anybody has any ideas? I googled and it seems to be a common problem with the HTC One but I cant find anything on the Mini 2. I read that it's just a software problem and that an update would fix it.
The HTC has a 2 year warranty so there's always that but obviously I need my phone especially to make/receive calls.
Hope somebody can help, much appreciated, thanks!
I'm experiencing the same problem here, on a 2 day old One Mini 2. Tried to contact HTC about the problem, first in the online-supportchat and then in the Concept Store in Copenhagen. No solution unfortunately.
I had the microphone problem with my OM2 - loud crackling most of the time, but occasionally it worked OK, giving the impression of a bad contact or dry joint. As it was within the 14 day trial period, Vodafone UK replaced it with a new one which has been fine.
I've had 2 One Mini 2's and both failed with a faulty microphone, both were bought from Amazon so there was no problem getting them swapped. Aside from that it's a lovely phone, but I can't recommend it.
4 HTC One Mini 2's in 7 Days!
I'm on my FOURTH handset this week! Same problem, HTC One Mini 2, o2 UK. I get them out of the box, go to the voice recorder app and hit the button, nothing but crackles back, phone will only work as a phone if I put it on speaker phone (which seems to engage a different mic). Otherwise in normal use the mic is broken and crackling. The problem was intermittent on the first handset, the other 3 have been more consistently borked.
This time I'm intending to send the handset on to HTC - they say it could take up to 2 weeks to repair. Part of me just wants to pick a different phone and move on, but it's hard to believe that 4 in a row can all have the same defect. I've learnt a lot about HTC's quality control this week, I've never had an experience like this before. After spending the past 4 years on an iPhone 4, it's hard to understand how a company can send you 4 broken phones in a week.
My Mic not working too ( after 2 week of use )
Then I use speaker mode for calling ( and Mic Working )
After Factory reset everything repaired
But After 1 week mic error got back :crying:
what can i do
it seems this is software problem

In UK HTC usually returnes handset in a couple day and you can fully track it online, (Shipped, repair, etc.) my longest time was 5 days with a bankholiday in the middle.
---------- Post added at 07:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:46 PM ----------
Bought mine on amazon UK unlocked and never had problems with it.
After hard reset everything is ok ( for a few call )
after that problem coming back !!???
it seems it not hardware issues
it must be software problem because of noise canceling
@Will972 Can anyone Provide a way for disabling noise cancelling ?
I had the same problem with my micro: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/help/sizzling-noise-phoning-t2866453
HTC told me to run the audio test from the hidden menu: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/help/htc-one-mini-2-hidden-menu-t2862144
So if you have the problems (crackling noise and no sound from the speaker) while running the test it's the hardware and you'll get a new device. I went to my Telekom shop and gave it back and two days later i had a new one.
