Bootloader locked by Xiaomi now, need to fill a form in Chinese and wait to unlock it - Xiaomi Mi Note Pro

Executive summary: If you flash China Developer ROM 6.1.14 or newer, your bootloader will be locked and the root access gone.
Before you upgrade to China Developer ROM 6.1.14 or any later version, make sure you understand the implications. Turns out Xiaomi has decided to lock the bootloader and to unlock it, you'll not only need to wipe your data but file an application with them and wait for their permission. So far, the application is in Chinese only:

Unlocking tool supported devices:
Redmi Note 3, Mi 4c, Mi Note Pro
Note: Forum user groups higher than Diamond member (including Diamond member), and all special teams have been added to unlocking bootloader whitelist. Your unlocking applications will be approved faster than other users.
Unlocking Bootloader Procedure:
1. Download zip file (recovery file) of China developer ROM for your device, put it into phone storage. Go to Updater app, press the three dot on upper right corner, and select 'Choose update package'. Choose the zip file you just put in phone storage. The update will wipe all user data, please make backup beforehand.
2. Log into the Mi account which has acquired unlocking permission on your device
3. Turn off your device, press the Power button and Volume - button at the same time to enter bootloader mode
4. Log into the unlocking tool on PC with the same Mi account. Connect the device with the PC using USB cable
5. Press 'Unlock'. The unlocking process will complete in about 10 seconds
After unlocking bootloader, users will be able to flash fastboot ROMs and custom ROMs. The unlocked device will be marked in the official service end. Users could lock bootloader again by flashing official MIUI ROMs. (This will need to use fastboot oem lock. Please note to flash offcial MIUI ROMs, otherwise your system won't be able to start)
Notes:
1. After getting unlocking permission for a Mi account, users can unlock the verified device immediately. One Mi account could only unlock one device within 30 days
2. Users could require for unlocking permission in this site: http://www.miui.com/unlock/
3. If a prompt says that the current account is not logged into a connected device. Please log in with this account on the device that needs to be unlocked
4. If your device is encrypted, unlocking bootloader will wipe all user data. Please perform a backup beforehand
Unlocking Tool Download:
(Only Chinese supported for now. We're still working on the English version, please stay tuned.)

In other news, the root access is also gone by default and will need to be re-enabled with an online check every time you flash a ROM via recovery or fastboot (non-OTA). Details here.
Comment: It all seems a bit ridiculous., especially the online application part.

Together we can change that. If unlock bootloader was easy and possible for everyone then problem wasn't exist.

What about anything from xiaomi.eu will that lock the bootloader if I flash an update through twrp?

I stayed with version 5.12.31 thus far so I don't know first-hand but according to them, no.
Just avoid the official firmware, including doing anything the Updater app asks you to. I think the app cannot be removed once installed but I posted here how to remove the notification.

Found this on french MIUI works great no locked bootloader.

Flashed via TWRP all still intact.

It's totally ridiculous and the unlocking procedure is taking people a lot of time to get an answer. Very frustrating.

For an even bigger snafu, many people ended up with a boot loop after the first OTA update that also locked the bootloader, and although more than two weeks have passed there's still no way to recover from it as of yet.

This might help those with brick. No it won't ignore me.

I have received Mi Note Pro 64G few days ago
My phone is running Chinese stock rom 7.1.5 without root. I tried to install TWRP but unsuccessful.
I read some Miui forum that update rom to dev rom 6.1.28 would have pre-root but when I update to 6.1.28 via Mi-PCSuite, I still not able to install TWRP
So I read XDA forum that Mi Note Pro have to register to get unlocking bootloader code, but I can not complete the form to get unlock code
Please someone here can help me something to install a proper English rom from en.miui with google service as normal Android phone??
Thank you

Update: I managed to access the form of unlocking code request
Hope Xiaomi will process soon

I got my Mi Note Pro granted open, but i found out is was never locked. I am on Cyanogenmod at the moment. The MIUI thing was too IPhone for me (coming from an iPhone)

Its work guys, just try ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-pro/help/how-to-unlock-mi-note-pro-100-t3336677

all the new mi note pro now comes with locked bootloader. one has to apply for unlock code at en.miui.com/unlock . also the funny part is that it asks for a "reason" for unlocking and if you don't give a legit one, they might reject your request. once rejected, you will have to wait 90 days for the next request. totally ridiculous but unavoidable for note pro owners.

What to do first when I receive the phone?

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering what I need to do when i receive the device. I am in Australia and the phone might be the Chinese model.
So is there anything I have to do with the phone to make it usable as I've heard you need to flash on the global ROM.
How do I properly set up my device for use?
Thanks

Not easy.To flash the global version miui, you need to unblock your boolloader, then download the global package, and flash it with the miflash. But to unlock the bootloader, you need a mi account and make a Application.

If you bought from a chinese-based online store, most likely your device has a fake ROM. To get rid of that ROM, you need to unlock bootloader. No matter if you want to flash an official ROM or unofficial xiaomi.eu. You can try to change ROM with MIUI Updater app, but most probably it will not work from a fake ROM.
To unlock bootloader you need at least a couple of things: a xiaomi account you can create here Mi Account -> account.xiaomi.com
After you create your MI account you need to request unlock here MI Unlock en.miui.com/unlock and wait several days to be approved for unlocking. In my case it took 4 or 5 days before I received an SMS of approval.
Then download MI Unlock app (Windows) and search a manual for unlocking device (you need to activate developer options).
In order to unlock bootloader you need a Chinese ROM (stable or dev) but If I'm not wrong all 'fake' devices come with a chinese-based ROM, otherwise wouldn't be a fake ROM?
After you achieve unlocking you can flash any ROM, Global or China, unofficial like xiaomi.eu, etc..
Flash global rom without unlocking bootloader
There is a way to flash global rom without unlocking bootloader using special USB cable that you can make yourself if you still want to do so i'll gladly show you how I did with my phone.
If you are tired and irked by MIUI, I would strongly recommend you to quickly apply for Bootloader unlocking permission on the official Miui site. Afterwards, unlock your bootloader and install official TWRP recovery and a ROM of your choice such as CM14.1. That way, you will be able to experience the true "openess" and magic of Android!
You can install CyanogenMod ROM, but unfortunately you will get no updates, since project has been discontinued on Dec 31 . Their successor is http://lineageos.org/ but there's nothing on their web yet.
Do create a MiAccount.. and do remember your security pattern... what ever you intend to do next do those two things
no need to unlock bootloader.
Xiaomi flash ROM came with 2 method.
you can flash not only from fastboot mode ( bootloader mode ) but also from edl mode ( QDloader 9008 mode ).
- fastboot method need to unlock bootloader.
- EDL method not need to unlock bootloader .
EDL method even can unlock bootloader with unofficial method

Clean install for Global Stable Rom

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get my head around everything, in order to get it onto a cleanly installed Global stable rom. It’s currently running an older version of Global stable rom, on a locked bootloader. I wish to make sure that the installation is totally clean, so I’ve figured that one of my best options would be to update it using the fastboot method.
As far as I can gather, this is that I should first unlock the bootloader using this guide here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-267361-1-1.html
After I’ve done that, I can update using “method 3”, the fastboot method, as described here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-307744-1-1.html
I have a few questions here, before I start the process. Any help would be appreciated:
In order to unlock the bootloader, I gather I need to be on China Dev rom (not Global, and not China Stable). Do I simply use the updater app and run a downloaded ROM from the website to get it onto China Dev?
Do I need to be on China Dev to even start the bootloader unlocking process? Can I leave it on what I currently have (Global stable) until I get the unlock codes?
When I register for a Mi account and request for an unlock, does the phone number associated need to be in the Mi5 I'm unlocking? I.e., do I need to keep the sim card in the Mi5, while I wait for the unlock codes etc. Until the phone is cleanly installed, I'll be using a different phone, so the SMS codes will be received on a different handset.
Do I need to install all the drivers, (Quallcomm etc.), noted in this guide here? http://en.miui.com/thread-299790-1-1.html The other guide above only specifically mentions to install the Mi Flash Tool.
Lastly, am I going about this the right way, or is there perhaps an easier way of doing things to get a clean install? Note, I don't have access to a deep flash cable.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Will try to answer some of your questions based on my experience.
I unlocked the bootloader from global stable rom. It is possible to do that from global and china rom. No need to change roms and definitely not needed to be on developer roms. I am not sure if it works on eu rom as it is unofficial.
You need to apply for phone unlock over xiaomi webpage while you are logged in to your xiaomi account. If you havent created a Xiaomi account it might be easier to make one over the phone as it uses your phone number and connects it all to your account.
Then log in on your pc and apply for the bootloader unlock. It takes about 10 days for them to process your request and i didn't even receive the sms that i can unlock my phone. After about 15 days have passed since i applied i just went along the instructions on the xiaomi unlock webpage and just unlocked it with some xiaomi pc application.
It was a fairly straightforward experience. I can't remember was it mi flash or it was something specifically for unlocking the bootloader, anyway it is on the xiaomi unlock webpage and on miui forum.
After you are through the process you can go to developer options in settings and look for mi unlock status it should say unlocked if you are successful. (if you haven't switched the developers options on already tap 6-7 times on the miui version in about phone and the developers options menu will appear in additional settings menu)

Mi8 Bootloader and Fashing questions

Hello everyone, I'm waiting my phone to arrive next week with unlocked bootloader and Official Global ROM (the phone itself is the Chinese version), but after seeing so many threads regarding bricked phones I got afraid I will brick mine too. So I want to ask a few questions and summarize all the things around the Bootloader and ROMs about MI 8.
1. How I can find if the phone's Bootloader is Unlocked for real or not, because i see there are some Fake Unlocks which is not good of course.
2. IF the Bootloader is really unlocked can I flash TWRP through fastboot like on all other devices with these commands:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
or there is another way to flash TWRP to Mi 8?
3. Can you flash a ROM to Mi8 using TWRP or only through Mi FlashTool? And again - is there something more special or unusual in flashing ROM to Mi8?
4. IF the Bootloader is Unlocked is it possible for the phone to RE-LOCK or getting into boot loop after updating through OTA or by Hard Resetting the phone, because I read here and there people had unlocked Mi 8, but after updating the phone through OTA or after hard resetting the phone they went into boot loop/-relocked. I'm not quite sure if I believe this, based on my previous experience with flashing phones, but who knows... so if someone can confirm or deny this, please answer.

1. You will see a lock icon under the kernel logo if it's unlocked.
2. Yep
3. I use TWRP to flash stuff to my Mi 8 SE, I doubt the Mi 8 is a magical exception
4. Not sure, don't even do a dumb thing like that, use Xiaomi.eu builds instead. I flashed a pure stock firmware once and it only overwrote TWRP with the stock recovery ( it became completely stock, simply put )

Hello guys,
I am new to the forum and a proud owner of Mi 8 /dipper/. I read every post in this tread /and in many others/ and I have some questions:
1. Currently my device is on 8.8.9 eu rom so I would like to update to 8.8.16 eu rom. From settings I check for update and it shows "up to date". My options are that I can download the new rom, transfer it to the phone and from there either hit "choose update package" from settings or flash via twrp. What is the difference between the two choices? I read that if flash via twrp then I need to wipe dalvik/cache, but can I update via os settings and if "yes" do I need then to boot twrp and again wipe dalvik/cache?
2. My device came with unlocked bootloader so I presume it was unlocked with someone else account. If I decide to go china stable/stock for my phone/ and lock the bootloader, then will I apply and wait to unlock it again? If I download Mi unlock and hit "unlock", while the bootloader is unlocked /dont know is it possible/ will my account bind to the device?
Thank you in advance,

Partially I have received answer to my question but its never bad to receive a second opinion. I still don't know am I able to flash china stable, lock the bootloader and everything be okey /there won't be any bricks/. Then if I decide to unlock should I wait to unlock the bootloader and can I bind now my account to the device trough unlocking while its unlocked or smth like that?

chinese rom with locked bootloader to global rom possible?

Hello all,
Yesterday I received a k20 pro from china with an unlocked bootloader.
I wanted to get rid of the spy/bloatware so i went and tried to install twrp to install another ROM, but for some reason TWRP flipped when i installed it (i think i forgot to turn off encryption) and just decided to stop working altogether. Recovery did not work anymore and so i was stuck in fastboot (bootlooping). After some stressfull googling i found out, the only way to get the phone working again is by flashing the (only) fastboot ROM, which was the chinese variant.
I was so stressed out, i forgot to change the flash option in xiaomi flash tool to "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock"(which is the default, fu Xiaomi).
So now my phone has a chinese ROM and the bootloader is locked.
So my question is:
Once i get the bootloader unlocked again (which will take 1 week hopefully), will i be able to install the global ROM (once it is released) or a better, a non-spying ROM?
Also, i tried debloating the chinese rom, but everytime i apparently debloat too much and the phone just stops working and i need to do a reset.
Does anyone have a proper list of xiaomi applications that are safe to remove (trough adb)? the ones i found remove too much.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, once you unlock your bootloader again, you can flash indian global firmware, which has less bloats, google apps and services included, and poco launcher.
For debloating cn rom, there is a tool here, I'll find and link.
May use this for debloating- https://github.com/Saki-EU/XiaomiADBFastbootTools

Hi, this is the program that i've been using for removing the xiaomi apps, however when some of the listed apps are removed the phone won't be able to restart anymore and i have to do a reset.
For now, i manually removed all the removable spyware by hand and installed blokkada to deny communication to xiaomi servers. I don't dare to remove a lot of system apps trough adb anymore since i had to reset my phone 5 times already... i just want to use it now...
Just endure the pain until bootloader is unlocked again then move over to the Indian rom, its much more tolerable.

This is the safest option. Whilst waiting for bootloader unlocking I just uninstalled anything that could be and disabled anything else that could be disabled. There were still many things I wanted to remove that could not be uninstalled or disabled, but decided I could live with them for a week.
After your week is up, you've got many options. If you like MIUI but not the bloat and spyware, then there are MIUI custom ROMs that remove the junk, xiaomi.eu ROMs being one of the biggest. Otherwise there are AOSP based custom ROMs that are stable enough to use.

NO.
If you try and lock the bootloader with anything that is not the original region you will hard brick the phone.
If you have a Chinese phone, then you can only lock the bootloader when installing an official Chinese ROM.
I think only the account used to unlock the blootloader can relock and re-reunlock it.
If you lock the phone, you won't be able to unlock it again with another account.
It is just a safety mechanism from xiaomi.

You don't need an account to lock the bootloader.
Provided that there is not a Mi account linked to a phone, then anyone who has the phone in their possession can unlock it.
When people have bought a phone already unlock, then accidentally locked it, they have been able to unlock it themselves if the seller has already unlinked the phone from the sellers Mi account

So basically it is possible, if one gets a k20 pro flashed with global rom, that if the seller forgets to remove his account from the phone, you're stuck using ONLY other roms? In other words, in order to relock the bootloader and install official chinese rom, you need to contact the seller and ask him to go on his mi account to remove your phone?

Yes there has been a few cases on these forums where this had happened.
However, you can still use official MIUI ROMs, you can still flash the Chinese ROM and lock the bootloader. The problem then is that you cannot unlock the bootloader again if the phone it's still linked to another account.
If you buy a Chinese phone with a global ROM, why would you then want to flash a Chinese ROM and lock the bootloader? You would be better off just buying the phone still with the Chinese ROM and locked, if that's what you wanted.
People have had problems because they've been flashing an official ROM with the Mi Flash Tool and accidentally left the flash option to flash and lock. When flashing with the Mi Flash Tool you just need to remember to change the default flash option every time you use it.
If you never relock the bootloader, then you will never have this problem and can still use official MIUI.

2. no sms seperate notification sound
3. No call recording
4. no blocking rules for incoming sms etc
You can switch to official Indonesia or Indian ROM to have MIUI Stock apps.
1. Download only fastboot version (not recovery )
ROM Redmi Note 8: MIUI 11 + MIUI 10 Global Stable India, Indonesia & China Stable
2. Unlock Bootloader (1 week wait) and flashing
https://c.mi.com/thread-1857937-1-0.html
Note1
If you want to change the ROM from one region to another (China/Indonesia/Global/Russia) installed on your phone then, 1st, Unlock Bootloader and then use Method 2: Fastboot Update to flash your phone. (Detailed Guide "Detailed Guide to Unlock Bootloader and Flash MIUI Stable/Beta ROM")
Note 2
DO NOT RE-Lock the Bootloader if you change from China ROM to Global ROM in China phone. Re-Locking will BRICK your phone. Select only "Clean All" option before flashing.
On Locking Bootloader, you MUST visit: On which ROM and Device you CAN and CAN'T Lock Bootloader!
Just follow instructions its quite easy. I have flashed two redmi note 8 global to redmi note 8 indian for one I kept the bootloader open and for other i relocked the bootloader.
Dont hesitate to ask questions if confused
Thank you man
Is there any hope of Xiaomi adding the stock dialer and sms in next update?

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that they would pay heed to our cries when rolling out MIUI 11, but have been very dismayed. Should have gone for the Redmi Note 7, instead of the 8 if If I had only known about this issue earlier. I am using Drupe and Textra as my dialer and sms app, but it is always better to use stock.
Anyways, I will try to change ROM over the weekend, and post the results.
Is the Arabic language found in the Indonesia ROM ؟

Roll Back to MIUI 10 From MIUI 11 ؟How

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but unlocking the bootloader means you have to contact Xiaomi in a online method to get an application to do the procedure. So, they will know you have unlocked anyway.

I understood what you meant.
As I sayed, unlocking bootloader envolves a online procedure, and so maybe Xiaomi will know you have unlocked the bootloader. If they have track of serial/IMEI with unlocked bootloader, you local seller can access this list and discover you have unlocked.
But, I'm SUPPOSING they have... Personally, I won't unlock phone on warranty period. Maybe someone else can tell you if I'm right.

These links you provided have a recovery ROM, wich we can flash through stock recovery. Have you tried to flash these ROMs from phone?
I mean the method of tapping MIUI logo on "About phone" settings 11 times, and then open the new menu at right top corner.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the thread that you shared with me, in the list of roms I see several regions but I am not sure if any corresponds to Indonesia, correct me if I am wrong. I would have liked that the thread had been specific to the Redmi Note 8 Pro, because it is very easy to get a brick.

I understand that it is multilanguage, so if the Global ROM comes with Portuguese, is also should have it.

At this moment I am in the waiting period of 168hrs to get the unlock. Xiaomi understands that you unlocked the bootloader since you made the request? or until the wait for 168 hours ends and you perform the procedure ?
If the waiting period of 168 hrs ends and I decide to let the warranty period pass, when I tried to unlock the bootloader again, would I have to wait again ?, that is, when passing a Long period of time, the hour meter restarts?
If at this moment I am in the waiting period, I get an update via OTA, does this interfere with the waiting period for the bootloader unlock?
Thanks for the patience.

That link is for every MIUI device, correct me if I'm wrong. But you're right, isn't clear if the "IN" on that images are Indian or Indonesian. I can't tell you if exists any differences, also. Sorry.
About the unlock, you are only waiting a "code" to unlock your phone. Your request don't means you already unlocked (by the way, you will be able to unlock after the time period ends). I believa will be no problems with OTA, since the Mi account you used to make the request is still on the phone (don't remove the account or reset your phone while you are waiting the code!).
Can't tell if the period to unlock have a timeline, but I believe it don't have. Once you get the permission, it is binded with your Mi account and that specific device, so probally is permanent.
Once you received the code, you will input it on Mi Unlocker. Once done, you're unlocked, and Xiaomi knows you unlocked
the bootloader. But, as I sayed... I'm not sure, I'm supposing this is the way.
Thanks for the info about languages.

Why do you want to flash the ROM of India ?, Do not mind losing the NFC?
I flashed the ROM of Indonesia in my Redmi Note 8 PRO, it is multilanguage and does not lose NFC. Then lock the bootloader without any problem.
What method to use?
In fastboot run the following command:
fastboot oem lock.
Before closing the bootloader, I recommend that you make a backup, because you will lose everything.
