About CyanogenMod
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Not Working / Bugs
Rotation of capacitive soft keys (intentional)
Graphical distortion in photos taken using the front camera
How to Install
Download the ROM from below
Download GApps (I recommend Pico, because it will keep your phone running fast)
Download and install this recovery
Attach the phone to your computer
Copy the ROM to your phone
Copy the GApps to your phone
Boot into recovery
If this is your first time installing this ROM then factory reset the phone from recovery
If you want to upgrade the ROM, flash the new version on top, and only wipe cache and dalvik cache
Go to Install and select the ROM zip file
After ROM has finished installing, flash the GApps
Go to Reboot -> System
First boot will take long time, depending on the GApps you have flashed
After the phone is booted, it might be hot, because it was booting for a long time (~5 mins for Pico GApps)
If the phone is hot, then Power Off and let it rest for a while. Then turn it on and set up the phone.

I know how to fix that. I just didn't on purpose because I have to change frameworks repo, which means I have to fork it, which means I have to keep periodically merge updates in repo from CyanogenMod.
In short, I am just too lazy

Will install this evening and report back, thanks...
Actually don't care too much about the capacitive button rotation...
The Automatic Brightness however really makes a difference in useability... Any idea how to enable that?

I think the light sensor is not functioning properly. I will check again.
But, is it possbile for you to check this as well?

I just installed the ROM (along with TWRP), and everything is running great!
Thank you @rqmok for making the Inc S live once more (I honestly thought dev was dead for good)
Here's my general thoughts after using for around 3 hours
Pros (compared to @szezso's ROM):
- Video recording fixed
- Feels like there's more RAM? Could be just me, but apps are staying in bg for longer
- Some things are definitely faster, like opening Play Store
Cons :
- I can't change what the capacitive buttons (hamburger menu or search) do. Probably has to do with what you said about not forking CM's repo.
- Google camera still crashes when you try to go into its settings. I have no idea why, it's kind of Google's fault, and this happened on szezso's ROM too, so no big worries. Google camera's photo quality is quite horrible anyway. I sure miss HTC noise reduction and image stabilization though...
- Nothing else at the moment? I'll let you know what I think after a few more days (battery life, performance after all apps are installed, etc).
Again, thanks so much @rqmok!
---------- Post added at 06:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:08 PM ----------
Ok the phone appears to be completely silent (used to have sound too...not sure why)
And upon restart, I get a dialog saying com.android.phone has crashed, then the phone hangs and the only way to turn it off is by removing the battery
The sound reappears after I rebooted again, but calls are still silent
Also, I'm unable to make calls

Unable to make any calls? So, when you make a call, what does the ROM say?
Also, relating to the sound going silent, did you install any apps of any sort that you think would do this? Or did you change any settings?
EDIT: Hello. I have been running the ROM for an entire week, and I didn't have any problems like this. I still have audio working. I can also make and receive calls, but there is no in-call audio. I will try to fix this as soon as possible.

The ROM doesn't say anything.
The phone says "calling" the way it would usually, but there's no sound.
Then the phone acts as if the other person has picked up and starts counting time.
Two things I've noticed:
1. The other person DOES NOT receive the incoming call. I know because I held the other phone in my hands, and it did not ring. HOWEVER, when the other phone calls, mine does ring, I just hear no sound after answering
2. No money is subtracted from my prepaid account. That means no time was actually spent on network? I'm not sure.
I don't believe any apps would've done this (all the apps I've installed are the apps I've installed on szezso's ROM), and my volume profile is normal. If you need a logcat just tell me. By the way, have you tried calling anyone else on your Inc S? Does it work for you? If it does, I'll do a clean reinstall and see what happens. Right now, my phone is incapable of making ANY sounds at all.

Yes, I have tried calling my brother's number with both phones in my hands. I have called both ways, and the call connects, but there is no audio in the call.
If you can provide a logcat that would be nice.

Here you go. Some things may be in Chinese (because that's what I set the language as), so tell me if you need translations.
By the way, do you think you're going to get a fix on this soon? Because my Inc S is still my daily, so I'll need to use it the latest by Monday

I'm sorry, I don't think I can get a fix for this by Monday.
If you want to revert back to some other ROM, then flash szezso's recovery and wipe/format everything (including internal storage), then you can install the older ROM.
I'm really sorry this had to happen. I will try to get a fix for this in the next week.
Until then, everyone who needs the call feature should not install this ROM.
EDIT: By the way, have you tried calling someone else as well?
EDIT: Which phone carrier are you with? And which phone carrier was the phone which didn't receive the call?

It's totally fine man. Always here to support dev
I have not tried calling anyone else
My phone network is H2O Wireless (which uses AT&T's network), and I called someone with Verizon Wireless
I already backed up the ROM so reverting will be quicker if necessary
although backing up szezso's ROM is impossible (due to mounting /data or something) so that's slightly annoying

Hello.
I am currently trying to fix the audio bug during calls. I just saw that I was missing some important audio files. The files were there, but they weren't being included in the package. So, I have included those and need someone to test. I will be making some other small changes in the kernel as well. So, if someone wants to volunteer for the testing, then please pm me. I will switch the ROM back to the original data layout just for testing, so it will be easier to install. Why am I asking for a tester? The SIM I was using is not available to me any more, so I cannot test.
Also, @davidchuyaya I think your problem is only specific to you, since I was able to make calls. But, let's just see what the tester has to say first.
EDIT: I have gotten two testers. That will be enough. Thanks guys.

Any news?

Maybe you change ROM flash metod back? Before new layout? We can test it all. Or find same new bags.

Hello guys. This is an update.
It seems the performance of the ROM is laggy, so I am also trying to fix that.
I have fixed the RIL, so that should be working now. But I am still waiting for someone to test it.
Also, I am going to switch the ROM back to the normal data layout, because it seems people were having problems with the new layout.
I will try to release the new version in the next week or so.

Whell. When it comes in old layout i will test it. Cant install new TWRP. Win10x64 maybe. Not mater.
Upd. Having dealt with TWRP. I had to using PG32IMG and do it five times, but then it saw the SD card. I try out a new firmware. Very nice! It looks and wark very promising. Just like all the sound does not work when calling. No dial tone. But it turns calls other phones is true as there is no sound. Later gladly try new firmware version. Sory for translate by google translater.

[Q] Incoming call delay after updating to CarbonROM KitKat 4.4

Because of the very laggy behaviour of my I9070 after the official upgrade to JB, I decided to go for KitKat after reading good reviews about it.
All this is pretty new for me, but I succesfully rooted the phone, installed the ClockWorkMod recovery tool and flashed to Android 4.4.4.
The build number according to the settings menu is: carbon-janice-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84P 3a697bce2f test-keys
Overall the performance is excellent and the nasty lags in the youtube app are completely gone so I can finally watch movies again Also I am pleased about the look and feel of KitKat.
The problem is that when receiving an incoming call, it appears that the caller does not hear my voice during the first 5 seconds or so. Mostly this is the time that I say "hello <my name> speaking" but this is not heared by the caller. Now I am forced to wait those few seconds before saying my name. I tested it with my other home phone line and this unwanted behaviour does seem to be persistent.
It is pretty annoying and really a flaw to this otherwise great update. Any ideas how to fix this?

That is happening on every 4.4 I think. It was on CM10.1, CM10.2 too.

I use Carbon rom 4.4.4, to be exactly the ROM-file CarbonKK_janice-4.4.4-20140627.zip
AFAIK this is still the most recent version. Maybe the problem was even worse with the previous builds.
But I did not have this problem with the, otherwise pretty laggy official JB upgrade from Samsung.... lets hope for a new update from Carbon that gets rid of the issue.

Hmm
Have not downloaded this version bcos the mega downloader gets stuck all the time
if the problem exists then why dont you try the AOSP rom
Off course it does not provide with all the features but its quite stable and we definately have gravitybox or many other apps for the additional features

I will definately consider this, I have not a very clear view on the differences between the different ROMS and tend to get lost in the flood of information on this site and others... I am not interested in lots of features but just want a fast, lag-free phone with the normal features: email, gmail, whatsapp, youtube, Google maps etc. If AOSP is more stable than Carbon, I will surely try it.

I installed the AOSP rom and it seems stable and maybe the call delay issue is better, still have to test it more.
I do however miss some nice functions which were present of the Carbon ROM:
- separate lockscreen background
- disabling the annoying Google Now bar on the homepages
- some fine tuning in icon colors
- kliing an app by long-press the back button
- defining hotkeys e.g. for the camera
and some more..
Is there maybe some package to install to add functions like this to the AOSP ?

Unfortunately the AOSP-4.4.4 ROM (build 20140620) is on second thoughts not working for me.
Though the install of the ROM and GApps went fine, I discovered that I had no internet when leaving my home with Wifi, and it appears that I had no connection with my provider and the icon always showed the R of "roaming".
Even after a new fresh install without the GApps the problem persists. The setting "Mobile data" appeared to be torned off, and ehen setting it to on, the triangle with exclamation mark and the (translated) message "The data connection has been broken because you left your home network while data roaming was turned off" (hope my translation makes sense).
So accessing my 3G network appears to be impossible and tham makes the build unusable for me. I installed the Carbon Janice 4.4.4 again and everything worked fine.
With the pa_gapps-mini.4.4.4 the system is up and running again and the incoming call delay is still somewhat of an issue but no show stopper. So for now I go that way...

Check if you have set up APN, on some ROMs it is not possible to be set automatically by provider. So you need to fill it manually. And you must do factory reset on ROM change to avoid those kind of problems too.

Do you mean a factoery reset just after installing the ROM and Gapps? I think indeed I have not done that.
For now it is working fine with Carbon but I will definately remember your tips for a next flash

Yes, factory reset before or after (just need to to it when you change ROM) install of a new ROM. Unless you just doing update to new version of the same ROM. Then you do wipe cache and dalvik cache.

OK I did those 3 steps before flashing the new ROM. Sometimes I even had to do it twoce because the ROM did not install and raised a error 7 or so...
I think it was more a problem with the APN configuration and never before needed to do this manually...

If you dirty flash (just wipe cache/dalvik and install) the new version, you want loose your apps etc.
But I would recommend to do a clean flash (factory reset and format system), but before backup your apps with Titanium. After installing the new version you can restore your apps and data.
But anyway, before wiping/installing anything do a nandroid backup. So if anything went wrong, you can go back in just a minute.
solution ?

Dont blame google for samsung mistakes. It isnt android problem couz my friend is using sII and there isnt any problem. Our phone is not an flagship like s 5 or nexus 5 so it has problems.
But this dealy is usefull sometimes.
For example if u want to unsware the call and u are stressed u can take a deep breath before u hear voice for other side

I must remove my battery for restart.
Somebody have this same problem ?
Thx
cannot install liquidsmooth rom
i'm still new in installing roms. i was able to install rxtreme rom, i would like to try the LS rom. i downloaded the latest nightly rom, and it prompted installation aborted.
i compared the rxtreme rom that i downloaded, it was 1.2gb. but for the LS, it was just over 200mb. i hope someone here can provide me detailed instructions on how to install Liquidsmooth rom on my s3 i9305.
systemui crashes
Hi guys,i just installed the rom and after the reboot i enter the pin code and that message about systemui pops up every 3 seconds.
EDIT:SO i installed the previus version and everything seems fine exept some random camera issues and the notifications
swipe to left functions most of the times doesnt work or maybe it has to do with spesific apps. Can i upgrade to the latest nightly version without doing a hard reset?

Read the instructions at the beginning of this thread. It's all there.
It is a little different to rxtreme.
You will need to download the ROM and GApps. I'd download Milestone version - read earlier posts for location.
Go to recovery, flash the ROM then GApps.
Hope all goes well.

Yes, but its not case of the rom, it's case of the old battery on any AOSP/CM gave me the exact same problem, I buyed a new battery and no more problems, it's all ok.

Thank you for your reply. My battery is original , it has to come from that.

I want to thank you for this great Rom, and after many many thank you thoughts i want to ask you if there is something i can do about the camera. After taking 4 pictures camera freezes and can't connect anymore. Thanks again!
Review of the liquid smooth i9305 ROM 4.4.4
I've been using this ROM for the last four months and my verdict is...
...it's ****. S. H. I. T.
So bad that I've gone back to the stock ROM. Maybe it's because the i9305 is a relatively unknown phone (compared to the i9300). Nevertheless it's evident here that little effort has gone into research and testing of this ROM. Here are all the issues I came across during my usage of what is the most terrible android experience I've had.
Battery life: This ROM basically chews up the battery faster than a fat kid in a candy store. Seriously sit back and watch, throughout the day, as battery percentage slips lower and lower until it knocks itself out. And then that brings me to the next problem,
The phone will not charge when the battery is completely dead (phone off): That's right the phone has to be on, before this ROM realises that it should be charging the phone.
Camera: The camera will take about 4 shots, sometimes 10, if you're lucky before it completely fails. The only way around this is by performing a soft or hard reboot. Super fun when you're at a party and when taking a group image, the camera ****s itself. Even with third party camera apps the problem persists.
Microphone: I don't know how a ROM could possibly **** up the microphone, but this ROM succeeds in doing just that. Any recording performed sounds like a 1950s CB radio. This is an experience that you force on everyone you call by having the audacity to use this ****ty ROM.
Multiple Application Incompatibilities: Several big ticket applications fail to run with LiquidCrap. For example Skype refuses to initiate and Viber will not make video calls. That leaves Google Hangouts which for some reason decides to induce a 4 second lag in every word in your conversation.
Video playblack: Wow a custom ROM that refuses to easily work with flash video. The developers solution here is to force you to use dolphin viewer to browse and run some flash mods to work. Unfortunately none of that works. And it's not just flash that refuses to run. Any HTML5 gif or video will not play. Then there are some videos where only the sound will play but nothing else. Good luck watching anything on youtube which is not accessible by the youtube app. Which surprisingly works well.
Random restarts: Oh were you typing in something important? Would be a shame if I just...restarted right now.
Screen Rotation: Lags.
So if you're 13 years old and get a kick out of changing colors in status bars; by all means get this ROM. If you actually have responsibilities and need your phone....to work. Then avoid this ROM at all costs. Hell, avoid every custom ROM for the i9305. Unless it's a slightly modified stock Samsung. This as this there's less chance that something is royally ****ed as in the case here.

Hi Guys! Im fairly new, I only flashed about 10 roms. Using this rom for 5 days now, I have a lot of problems, bugs. But I want to give it another try, because I heard very good things about this rom. so...
garbled "mosaic like" graphics on locksreens notifications only when Im moving them with my fingers
garbled notification bar icons when running tinder
strange scrolling in play/own apps during app updating - app rectangles in the listing seems to detach from the scrolling background, moving slower/faster.
various gfx glitches too fast or short to recall
camera is unusable, ugly FCs, "cant connect"s, even reboots, or phone freezed up for several seconds. using power button release seems to make it worse.
it was clean install, full wipe (FR), + cache before and after flashing. (Philz Touch)
installed:
LS-KK-MileStone-3.2-i9305.zip
Liquid_gapps.4.4.4.build.8.1.zip
I came from stock KK, it was the NEE version (I9305XXUFNL1_I9305NEEFOA1_I9305XXUFOA1_HOME). and some others before that.
Can I make an "even cleaner" install...? Can it be some things left from other roms causing these problems?
Or any advice, so it would work like on your devices?
thx in advance
ps: sorry for the previous post

Have you had any luck on sorting your problems out? I've found this ROM to be amazing.
It's fast, smooth and everything works well.
I've played with lollipop ROMs but they have issues so keep coming back. Though when aicp 5.1 is sorted, it is a decent option; very fast and smooth.
Anyway I am using TWRP 2.8.5.0 recovery and stock kernel that came with the ROM. I do a full advanced wipe them factory wipe. I also use SuperSU.
If you're still having issues you could store your files in an external SD card, totally format your internal storage and start again from scratch.
Hope that helps.

Hi! thx for the answer, but I did everything, apart from I left below. What do you mean by total format? How its done, with what app, and how the carrier/region etc related content is put back after that? I have latest philz touch, and I do dalvik+cache+full wipe before AND after each flash. Im not concerned about my files, everything is on ExtSD and cloud.
Yes the rom is much cooler than CM for the first look, but after 5 days heavy use I got serious problems just like the angry guy mentioned a few post above. after I moved in all my apps and stuff, it lost its smoothness, FCs, and hard battery drain with hot phone.
But the main thing was after I wrote my post, I realized that this rom is not maintained anymore, which is a problem for the 9305. U gotta use what is maintained, so the last day was so bad with this rom, I went back to CM immediately! Which is a dream in simplicity, speed, and battery life, and the latest only few days old!
of course Im still interested in the total format you mentioned, and in this rom, if it gets sorted out...

There are different ways to fully format your internal drive but you will need to backup any important data files to your SD card first. A full format will wipe it clean. I don't use philz these days but from memory you mount system, data etc and format them. Other options are files like those provided by Agni developer for F2FS will wipe it clean as well. As I use twrp it is different again.
I've been on this ROM for months now. It's fast, smooth, no FCs, and with decent use through the day I get 2 full days out of the battery before a recharge.
I use Greenify app, turn off fast dormancy and if there are drainage issues it's generally about finding the rogue app. Titanium backup is another must have app to backup and restore apps. It makes things so easy.
It's not maintained as you say but I don't see that being relevant; it's a well cooked 4.4.4 ROM! You can use other options such as F2FS +/- ART to tweak performance.
The only ROM I'm playing with at present is the 5.1 aicp which is super fast. Only had bug with Apex launcher my launcher of choice.
Have fun! Cheers

The horrible Marshmallow Update for S5 - Bugs on top of BUGS

I note the following issues in the Marshmallow update SM-G900FD
1. Call recording - Android API access is completely broken normall it would record in mode 2 but it doesn't work anymore. The following Call Recorders did work they are (Total Recall, Boldbeast Call Recorder) as they use a different approach. I payed for both. But actually both are having hit and miss issues. Sometimes the call recordings are perfect, sometimes they are missing the first 3-7 seconds. Sometimes call recording fail and it doesn't fix itself for a duration of time. Boldbeast contacted me and informed me that the reason behind it is that there is an issue in the ROM that causes the call recording to fail randomly.
2. System Restarts - I'm in a call for a long duration and after the call the Android OS is asking me for my backup password saying that the System just restarted while I was on the call. WTD!
3. System Lockup during Redials - I can confirm that it has nothing to do with call recording but it seems the UI becomes unresponsive sometimes when the phone is starting a call. This is a horrible when the phone is redialing a busy number. For example, my friend was in a class and he was busying my call and I just kept ringing him back. At my end. the UI was frozen and I couldn't stop the phone from redialing. :-
4. No access to band selection (Service mode) - I live in Sri Lanka, so even in populated cities the coverage is low, I used to put the phone on 3G/4G only mode through the hidden menu via *#0011# because sometimes the stupid thing reverts to 2G. Now its no longer possible.
5. Low Battery life and No Doze - I have only noticed a decrease in battery life. Doze doesn't seem to be kicking in.
6. Slow charging - In Marshmallow power saving mode gets disabled when the phone is charging causing slow charging because in Lollipop the Power saving mode existed even while charging contributing to a faster charge.
7. Smart Pause icon - It remains half enabled even when Smart Pause is completely off.
8. Ugly app drawer - Doesn't look classy or professional. It looks like more Cartoon like. Lollipop was perfect.
9. Issues moving apps to SD Card - Many of the Apps that were in the SD before the upgrade was reported to be in internal storage (In reality it wasn't). When I told to move it to SD the whole phone crashed and restarted and the App was found corrupted. Had a tough time trying to uninstall it afterwards.
10. File type association, no way to reset - I opened a file in the File Manager through the video player which was not able to play it. Now I it opens it by default through video player and this selection is not even listed in the default applications area. I find no way to undo or ask another app such as VLC to open it.
Considering these issues, I decided to the downgrade to Lollipop today, from the 17th of May I tried to LIVE with Marshmallow but its a horrible update for the S5 which I think Samsung intends to make users buy the S7 making them fed up with the S5. The only issue Lollipop had was the System Sound volume issue (high from time to time) and Calls not ending even when told (the phone doesn't stop calls on redial and sometimes the phone continues the call without your knowledge).
Message received from Boldbeast
Hi,
1. Cannot record calls sometimes.
What's the problem?
There is a bug inside the ROM of your phone - the built-in MediaServer works unstable.
How do we know it?
We checked your log files and several other user's log files, so we know it.
How to know it's true?
No matter what call recorder you are using, the result is the same - sometimes the ROM fails to record calls.
What does Boldbeast Recorder do when the ROM fails to record calls?
When the ROM fails to record calls Boldbeast Recorder tries at most 20 times to restart recording, if it still fails the app gives up.
How to fix the problem?
Third-party apps can't fix it. Users have to wait the manufacturer to fix it in future ROM updates.

How to downgrade 900F variant to Lollipop from Marshmallow
@y chirantha7777
My S5 G900H exynos variant is working fine with marshmallow
and doze mode is good, battery life increased and no laggs and heating issues anymore
May be you must reset your device and clear cache partition and data
And check if the problems still exists or not
@ OP - Marshmallow is great here, something wrong your end
And as for the ugly UI changes, there are no changes from LP > MM, it looks identical other than some new icons
Battery life is way better with MM than KK or LP
Charging is just as quick
No system restarts
Factory reset your broken phone

How can charging be as quick? MM stops power saving mode while charging. In the technical perspective, prove to me how more amps the circuit will provide just because its running MM...
Several users are reporting that Marshmallow is killing the battery not much but a 20% faster drain.
Says you, activate the lock screen with finger print and backup password. Use your phone for a day with several calls.
My phone isn't broken, after downgrading to Lollipop I am experiencing great use with less of a trouble.
Tell me, why are you trying to justify this broken update? what good has it bought you? Can you even access the Service menu for band selections now? You can't put it on LTE/WCDMA only mode. Can you record your calls without hit and miss issues? I'm a person that depends on call recording for my detective work and evidence gathering. Tell me the great things Marshmallow has bought to the phone... I'm all ears!
Just because you didn't factory reset after upgrading, doesn't mean everyone else has the same problems
MM is better in every single way than LP for me
Currently at 2d 15h on battery with 5h 35m SoT

I think the same. You MUST do a factory reset after a major upgrade like this one. It's mandatory if you don't want to have the problems you have.
While testing I haven't found any of the bugs you mention. Ex:
- The battery is superb now, charges as quick as always have, last at least a day with 4hs of SOT.
- launcher is really good and nothing changed except of the icons (which are the same of the ones included in Galaxy Note 5). If you don't like the stock launcher then install Nova Launcher or any other third-party launcher and use the theme you like.
- Don't know about Doze (if itspresent or not) but now the battery last longer.
- File associations: the control for that its where it always has been.. "Default applications" ("Predeterminadas" in spanish) option inside of the Settings app.
And one last thing: if you updated to 6.0 and you want to keep it simply backup your data and do a factory reset with a custom recovery (as stock recovery will wipe the internal memory too so say goodbye to the music and photos you may have there).
If doing a factory reset doesn't fix your problems, then go back to 5.0 and stay there for all the time you want (updates on android aren't mandatory so you can choose what to do and when to do it)

you should try to learn how to make a clean update because.....
1. Call recording - perfect.
2. System Restarts - never.
3. System Lockup during Redials - without problems.
4. No access to band selection (Service mode) - still working with root as always.
5. Low Battery life and No Doze - Nope, good battery life.
6. Slow charging - Nope.
7. Smart Pause icon - Nope
8. Ugly app drawer - Change theme, but still it's almost the same.
9. Issues moving apps to SD Card - Nope.
10. File type association, no way to reset - Nope.
Downgrade? never, it was a usable and good update.

Please tell me your variant. I'm using the 900F variant and all my friends are suffering from these issues. Resets have not helped them. I think you are using a different variant based off the other chip set
In Lollipop you don't need root to change band selection! or access the service menu! *#0011# method with Q and 0000 worked perfect. MM ruined everything!
I did not reset my S5 (G900H) but everything seems to work normally. Noticed some visual bugs but nothing major.
Using it on G900H, no issues observed. Happy with the update, it's smooth and better battery compared to LP.
The last weeks I was nearly every free minute looking for the desired Marshmallow update, without any success.. The really annoying thing is, that other phones from other operators (salecodes) here got it some weeks ago. As we know it from the past, some variants seem to be more important, than others.
Now, I read your threads op and I do not know, if the waiting is pointless, because sammy did not do something great to our phones..
How does the mm rom feels about? I hate the waiting for updates, sammy drives me crazy, sometimes..
Some of your reported bugs I would never recognize, because I use my phone for staying in connection to my friends, not more.
Hopefull that my phones mm updates makes me happier than it did to you...

Man, how did you get that SoT ? Are you using the barebone cleaner script or any mods?

So you can access band selection through *#0011# without root? Your call recording is working fine? Funny!

I can get way more than that SoT, was heading for over 8 hours the other day
I run the cleaner script the get rid of Sammy crap yep, no other tweaks
I got Xposed installed, but was getting the same battery/SoT before Xposed
I'm on a 900fd and can't access band selection via service mode. Says "0' and then just goes back to "Basic Information". Confirmed.

Then maybe something gone wrong with the ota update. If I were you I would:
-do a backup
- do a factory reset with a custom recovery
- download the stock rom from sammobile or samsung-updates (any 6.0.1 for your variant, it doesn't care the region except for the modem but you can download the rom of your region later, extract the modem.bin file and flash ot with Odin),
- flash the rom with odin and test.
Later you can re-install the custom recovery and root the phone with the latest beta of supersu (odld versions won't work with 6.0.1)

Ahhh! See!!! Finally someone testifies!
Also see my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecFWC3BzmqU with the 4G Only mode guide without Root. people are complaining that they can't access service menu since 6.0.1... yet no body at xda believes me :crying:

Can anyone confirm if Youtube works properly? On the other ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hd/8-9-development/rom-beanstalk-t3436434/page2) it stops working if the device sleeps and requires a reboot.

This seems like a long standing issue since cm12 and possibly cm11 to a lesser extent. Your only hope is to start a logcat, reproduce the issue, and post the result. Still no guarantee of a resolution however. Otherwise best workaround would be to get a google cast receiver and use the tablet as a remote.
EDIT: Relevant log output. Only occurs after tablet enters deep sleep. Current workaround is to keep tablet plugged in and charging to prevent deep sleep after video playback.

Ok thanks. I didn't have the problem on RessurectionRemix when I was using it but the Youtube app had to be closed occasionally as the videos started lagging. Too bad, but I know I'm asking a lot of an old tablet. I works amazing as a comic reader though.

Can you flash this in recovery and try to reproduce the issue again? I can't get it to break again myself, though a few variables changed such as youtube app update and different video being played.
I suspect the newer kernel changes in RR are causing lag and crashes. Beanstalk and temasek are using an older kernel that's known to be more fast and stable.
EDIT: Newer firmware seems to break camera and cause a longer boot (sounds familiar). I don't recommend flashing it right now.
EDIT2: The reason why I thought newer firmware resolved this issue is because it technically did. Not because of fixes in ducati, but because the kernel failed to load the firmware entirely which subsequently broke the camera and caused a longer boot resulting in this kernel message. If loaded correctly, this message will result. So instead, as a fix for this youtube issue, it is best to disable hw decoding for avc entirely. You can flash this zip in recovery to get a quick fix which will also be in future builds.
More importantly, I think this explains why the camera is broken and longer boots occur in transi's newest roms. I haven't checked myself, but I'd bet that ducati-m3.bin is failing to load on boot. This is despite the proprietary firmware being unchanged. It might be something in his newer kernel changes is causing ducati not to fit within designated memory.
EDIT3: @transi1 This seems to be the offending commit for broken camera/long boot issue. This commit introduced some lag. And this commit resolves the youtube issue.

Wow, thanks! I'll flash this as soon as I can.
EDIT: I'm using the BeanStalk ROM from another thread and flashing the Youtube Fix did seem to make difference. Waking up from sleep and resuming/playing new videos now seems to work. Cheers.

SUPERSU INSTALLATION
So does this ROM support OTG by default? No powered USB hub or anything?
Edit: I noticed that you have another CM13 ROM thread, though the other is not from Temasek. However your source links go to the same place between this post and the other. The second post has a ROM that was built later though (2016-10-25), does the other ROM also have OnTheGo mode like this one is supposed to since its using the same source? The other thread is titled "[ROM][Jem][UNOFFICIAL][Marshmallow 6.0.x] CyanogenMod"
I love this ROM. It truly emulates the options and abilities ALL Android devices should have. If there was any one ROM that really brought out the true potential of this absolutely incredible tablet, it would be this ROM.
The only issue I have is the window animation in developer options. Setting it to 0 will cause random screen flashes and sometimes pixilation. It also caused a random reboot or two as well.
Aside from that, this ROM is probably the best one I've ever used.

Yes, the other one is much better, this one has multiple useless features such as a USB OTG app, which does not work. The other one functions in almost every way better, and has less bulk as well.

Thanks. I know that DragonFire (the poster after you) is impressed with Temasek's ROM so I was just looking for a second opinion. I'll check out the other thread you mentioned. Gonna flash my first ROM in the next few days and was hoping to pick a decent one and be done with it.

Well, assuming you are still using the custom ROM we're talking about then you must be satisfied enough with its performance to keep on your tablet. I don't use my Nexus 7 2013 all that much even though it's a great device, but I have found that the USB OTG is a very nice feature to have, especially when I travel. But if it doesn't work in Temasek's version, then it doesn't work.
To be honest, I'm probably gonna hold off flashing a ROM for a while, in part because I am still not totally sure which one to try and in part because I am still squeamish about mucking up the flash. I have spent MANY hours over the last week or more pouring through umpteen threads and a ton of posts, but just when I get to the point that I think I have enough knowledge to attempt it I will come across a new thread with a bunch more posts (like the CM13 one you referenced last night) and find myself getting all confused again and it shatters any confidence I had to give it a go.
This forum is a treasure trove of great info posted by some very smart and helpful people and I think I've learned a lot in a relatively short time, but it can also be maddeningly frustrating the way it's laid out. Not sure why I am having such a hard time grasping and retaining some of the basic concepts, but it is what it is. It's not from a lack of effort on my part...maybe when it comes to these Android gizmos, I'm just a very slow learner...LOL.

OTG works, just the app that's in the ROM doesn't...at least not that I can see. The device is OTG capable as it is a hardware feature Amazon surprisingly never blocked. You don't need an app for it to function, but you do need an OTG adapter.

Thanks man!! working perfectly on my moto x 2014.
Update: we are now in the official build roster and queued to get an official 18.1 build on Sunday morning
Hi npjohnson!
I've follow all the steps for the upgrade, that happened without fails (the only unusual thing that i've noticed is that process finshed as OK on the device screen when progress was around 47% on pc cmd adb screen, for the rom and for the mindthegapps), but the device do not unlock when I enter my pin. The screen turns black for a moment and return to lock screen. Any idea of how to solve this?
Update: After restore the backup, I've remove screen lock pin and try again. Now the device is rebooting when try to load the first screen after the boot...
How is this even possible?

For the Motorola Moto X 2014 (victara) the LineageOS upgrade wiki page now says that you need to format data before installing LineageOS 18.1: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/victara/upgrade
In this LineageOS subreddit thread Can't go past locking screen after installing 18.1 on bacon (OnePlus 1) there is a post made by haggertk who is one of the 9 Lineage directors that explains why.
The workaround in that thread posted by OffizierMichael to avoid formatting the Data partition & losing your apps, data & settings was confirmed by a few OnePlus One users but not for the victara yet confirmed by victara user @douglasmarx:
Ok, I got this to work on my Oneplus One, setup before installation:
Lineage OS 17.1
TWRP 3.5.1
Deactivate your unlock protection (pattern, PIN etc.) so it unlocks by simply sliding up
Now, boot into TWRP and install (in same order and without rebooting inbetween)
Lineage OS 18.1
GApps (must be Android 11 of course, like https://nikgapps.com/ - I used Open GApps before but they don't have version 11 out yet)
Remove or rename the file /data/system/locksettings.db by using TWRPs explorer functionality
Reboot and unlock into Lineage 18.1 like normal and reactivate your unlock protection of choice
As mentioned by developers already, it is adviced to format every partition (therefore resetting and removing all settings/apps/files on your phone, be aware of course!) before going for the update.

Hello,
I'm very new here.
I've been able to install the update without any problem (formatted the phone before installing the update).
I would only like to tell that since the update, my phone is unable to connect to Netflix. It's stuck at "Netflix" with black background. I've already reinstalled the app, deleted cache and data multiple times. No luck.
Also, Chrome is now unusable (works for a couple of seconds then it freezes). I'm using Opera right now.
Last, maybe it's my internet, but the phone seems to lose the WiFi connexion more frequently since the update and often doesn't reconnect to our network even if it's within range (I have to either restart my router or reset my phone's network settings).
That said, thanks for all the devs for making my old Moto X still work and compatible with newer apps ^^

1. Netflix should be fixed next build, update and let me know
2. Looking into it
3. Not sure, seems fine to me
Lovely work! Thank you for this.
I think both cameras are misbehaving a bit.
For example, lets say I open up the default LOS camera or Open Camera. If I'm pointing at something that's bright while the camera app is opening, then exposure will be correct on screen for that scene and the live preview is fast and snappy as you'd expect on good lighting conditions.
While having the camera app open, if I point it to something dark or black, exposure adjusts a few stops up to compensate, but then it won't readjust back when pointing back to what was bright. Camera preview gets laggy and stays laggy, as if shutter speed got too low.
Front camera tends to always get exposure wrong, too bright, blown out and laggy. I'd guess auto exposure is not working correctly, shutter speed being the problem. Closing and opening the camera app again fixes the issue until it happens again.
Camera behaved as expected on 17.1.
How can I collect and provide more information about this? A logcat? I'm on 18.1-20210418-NIGHTLY-victara, phone is a XT1097, latest Marshmallow firmware. 18.1 was clean installed, the usual factory reset wipes and /data formatted in TWRP.
Thanks a lot for this build!
My old Moto X is a new phone now!
I have some problems with the flash when taking pictures, the Photo App crashes...not very important for me though...
Other than that, everything seems to work smoothly!!
Can you guys do a logcat while using and post steps to reproduce? It will be really helpful for us. Thanks in advance
Sure, I will try to do it this weekend
Here are the logs:
I rebooted the phone, then I opened the camera and try to take a picture. This happened around 14:15:29.661
The flash was on by default. The timer (3 seconds) started but the picture was not taken. Then I tried few times more, but then the application get non responsive and crashed.
I hope it helps!
Kind regards
Hi
Thanks for the update, just performed a clean install, coming from LOS 17.1.
The echo during calls in Signal is still an issue, as previously reported in the 17.1 thread.
Camera works, indeed it sometimes starts completely overexposed but not always, so closing it starting it again seems to fix it. Strange. Video recording seems to work, it didn't work in 17.1.
Also, there is no AOSP email app. Could be a problem with Mindthegapps, I usually never install Gapps but this is not my phone
To me the major problem is the echo during VoIP calls. Using signal with video and or speaker is just not possible.
Thanks !

Here you go. This is on yesterday's build, 20210425
First opened OpenCamera while pointing at sunlight, confirmed fluid camera preview with correct exposure, then pointed to something black, reproduced behavior as per my previous post (laggy camera preview as if shutter speed got too low to get the correct exposure on something black, as expected), then pointed back to sunlight to confirm bad behavior (shutter speed stuck too low, camera preview laggy and completely white, too much light captured, not auto correcting back to initial status as you'd expect).
Closed OpenCamera, opened LOS' stock camera, did the same steps, reproduced same behavior, then closed it.
Let me know if you need anything else. Thank you!

The echo: we're working on it, its quite tough.
The AOSP email app: It was dropped, old and insecure.
Well, i've installed this build (lineage-18.1-20210425-nightly-victara-signed.zip) and I have to say its incredible. I've installed Lineage on a number of devices (LG G Pad 8.3, Galaxy S5 Plus, LG G2) and none of the builds are as smooth and bug free as this one. I followed the install guide on the Lineage Wiki page and it went exactly as planned (though I did find some old youtube videos to help point in the right direction sometimes such as when going through the Motorola website unlock bootloader process)
I'd given up my old Moto X 2014 but this has breathed new life into it. Many thanks npjohnson!
The only minor thing I can't fix is that I had planned to give this to my 10 year old son and use Google Family Link, but it wont let me do this as it gets stuck in a loop - I think this may be an issue with mindthegapps. Either way, its not a big problem, just happy to have an all new Victara on the latest build
SInce putting this OS on I've also re-discovered what a lovely phone it is - great to hold in the hand (one hand unlike todays huge slabs) and the glass is so smooth. Its just a really nice phone.

Sorry - I'm not sure what Safetynet is (even after Googling!) - does that mean Familylink wont work with Lineage?
