Rooting Kindle Fire Gen 1 Help - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Gen 1 Kindle Fire I would like to root and install a full Android OS -- I'm thinking Kit Kat.
The easiest way looks to be to use the Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.9, but as it runs, it tries to download from broken links and so doesn't work.
Is there a full KFU out there that doesn't need to download anything? What are my options here?
Thank you.
Regards,
Josh

Well, dang, I coulda' sworn it did.
So I need to use Saferoot. How would I go about unlocking the bootloader, or installing a custom bootloader? Will the option on KFU allow me to install a custom ROM?
I apologize if I'm asking questions covered in the thread you referenced. I grew up in the DOS/BASIC/C/early Windows era and am still trying to transition to Android and its terminology.
Thank you.

Hello,
I got it figured out and am now running stock Kitkat.
It seems the TWRP version needed to be higher than the 2.2.x that was included in the package I installed. I just upgraded to TWRP 2.8x.otter and it worked very nicely.
It's been a heck of a learning curve the past couple days. I'm used to just typing "format c:" and going from there!
Do you have any suggestions for the Google Play Store? I've not messed with that, yet.
Regards,
Josh

Hello,
It's 4.4 KitKat. I figured out Play Store.
This is getting fun. I'd like to see the Android architecture, though. I was A+ certified years back, and the class books were good for studying Windows. Are there any books on the Android OS you know of?

Josh

hello friend, do not really remember, it already does about 40 days.
what I remember is that I was trying to install a rom on it, hence when I entered the safestrap and installed that file called kindle or more.
I kept trying and trying and now he does not care any more, not any of the signal.
I did the root and installed safestrap.

even tried it for her too, but now my kindle does not care anymore, I wanted to carry him or make him turn, then goes into fast and try to resurrect it somehow.
If you have a 2nd generation Kindle Fire, such as the HD7, and nothing shows on the display when powered on after attempting to modify the device, there is nothing that can be done to fix it.

how do I know if my generation is 1 or 2? I managed to open it and put it to charge now is loading.
Then I'll see if it still goes on so fast, even in the case there is something that can be done?

Does anyone know if a fastboot cable would be useful in a situation like this. I don't know if it would work to start into fastboot mode and then flash recovery or something.

Again, if you have a 2nd generation Kindle Fire (Kindle Fire 2, Kindle Fire HD7, Kindle Fire HD8.9) and after an attempt to modify it if nothing shows on up the display at all when the device is powered on, there is nothing that can be done about it. It is BRICKED...permanently.

I read about safestrap and it doesn't sound very safe. (Thats why I waited for 2nd bootloader) .
He said in the first post that it was entering fastboot mode when it was charged. I wonder why it can't charge now...

To be perfectly honest with you, I have no idea what the OP is saying. Apparently Google's translation from Portuguese to English is a bit lacking. Without an actual translator, there's no way to tell for sure what he's saying, or if the advice given is even relevant.

Update to latest Stock ROM and keep root?!

Hello,
I really like the Stock OS. Right now I have:
13.3.0.2 installed, which is a very old build.
My device is rooted.
What is the latest STOCK ROM that I can flash and keep my ROOT?! And how can I flash the latest ROM and keep my ROOT?!
Thanks in advance!
Not sure, but this seems to be the best indicator on XDA that I've seen so far:

EDIT: Oh, wait, I see you've already commented on that thread.

This is a different thread, though. They are talking about NOT HAVING root and updating to a OS-Version, where they can root the device. I already have root and just want to keep my root. Thats a different solution, hence the new OT.

Do you mean flashing? (with TWRP / SAFESTRAP) or do you mean updating with a .bin-file in your internal storage?
you cant keep the ROOT if you update your version, but towelroot can root till version 13.3.2.6
Hi, I have just recently purchased a HDX7, it has been sometime since I rooted anything, about two years ago I think on the nexus 7 so any guidance would be really appreciated.
Anyway can I downgrade 4.5.1 to 3.2.5 using amazon website and then I will be able to root?

You're going to have to go through Amazon support — they're the only ones that can initiate a downgrade at this moment.
See this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/rollback-to-devices-upgraded-to-4-x-t2946946
So amazon have just called me a stated that they cannot perform a roll back of the firmware ............
Roll back is possible, check out this post before calling customer services, it will help you...

Root for Fire OS 4.5.2

Hey,
I found a German thread here where the managed to root the latest Fire OS Version, see http://www.android-hilfe.de/amazon-...s-4-5-2-funktioniert-root-ja.html#post8436942. This post links to Firerooter (https://plus.google.com/+GranPC/posts/W412cQkHTCw) which is a tool to root the kindle HD 7. Isn't it possible to use this method to root also the HDX 7 with Fire OS 4.5.2? I'm asking cause I'm not so familiar with android developing, but maybe some experts here could answer the question and if possible port it for the HDX devices.
Greetings,
Alex
There's already a thread about this.

FlashFire or Titanium Backup are good starting points. Note both are dependent on a working rom for backup -and- recovery as there is no mechanism for using a custom recovery with a 5.1.1 bootloader.
By full backup I meant "stock firmware".
I found it, and installed. Sadly didn't fix the problem I have with my fire. ?

Thank you for your answer. Too bad, I hope that someone competent will find a way to root this version, if not at least a way to uninstall Fire launcher and other system applications.

Hi! On another thread, I think, I found that if you turn the screen off, wait about 5 to 10 seconds, then turn it on again (by touching the on/off button at the top), the install button goes orange and you can install. You have to do this process for each separate APK - hope it works for you, too! (I'm on 5.6, too)
