How to trick app that my model is S6 Edge plus - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Is there any way of tricking Vodafone Wallet app that the model is S6 Edge Plus instead of Note 5(SM-N920C)
There are subtle difference between the S6 Edge Plus and my Note 5, but seeing that the Note 5 wasn't officially released in most countries, I can't use the Vodafone Wallet app on my Note 5 because the latest model supported by the app is S6 Edge Plus.
Even though I have an Vodafone SmartPass and the NFC Sim.
Is there any way?
Please help

Anyone?

Check your Build.prop file in System Partition. You will need root access, which I guess might kill payment apps like the one you want to trick.
Build.prop has a line which states the type of your device.

I forgot to mention that I'm not rooted... So I guess I'm out of luck....

when i got my Note 5 Duos (white, 64GB), as soon as i connected to the internet and logged into my Google account, there was already an update. i held off though just because i'm waiting for root and don't want to continue with any updates just yet. i'm not sure how the international/unlocked versions are scheduled for updates, but with my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (both WiFi versions) each got the 5.1.1 update within the same time my Sprint S6 edge got the 5.1.1 update.
can you type what it would look like if it offered Hebrew? i'll try to check tomorrow to see if it's already supported or not.
(if anybody is interested, i'll have a white Note 5 Duos (64GB) for sale within a week. PM.)
(Sent from another Galaxy via Tapatalk)
So i will be able to install a generic note 5 version (with one sim only) or not??
possibly, if you're rooted. but i would imagine the Dual-SIM OS would be the same as the regular international version (single-SIM) with the exception of the Dual-SIM menu.
(Sent from another Galaxy via Tapatalk)
So how is it possible that the dual does not support Hebrew keyboard. ..?
....??
I really want to but it already and dual Sim is the only option right now . Is any less good then the normal note 5? And will I be able to burn another version of Android of the note 5 ?
Any help please..?

I just got my 9208 last night and already got an update as soon as i setup the phone

For those of you wondering about Samsung updating this link should help see their track record on this:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N9100/
This is a list of the update for the Note 4 Dual Sim variant. Basically right in line with the software releases for the other international models. It is still waiting for 5.1.1 but this only came our for one international variant (910c) so it is likely on the way within the next few weeks.

Hmmm. Not sure what this means for the camera. Perhaps you need to use an app to get the sensor data from an image that you have taken?

There is an AT&T firmware update for the Note 5 and the S6 Edge plus. If you can, see if there's something waiting in System Update.
I have the same problem on my Note 5 but since I'm in England, so far I'm out of luck. If you can update and it works, please let us know.
Not sure if you have resolved this yet but I had the same problem. For me it was because I had used Package Disabler and had disabled com.facebook.system. Once I re-enabled that, tha apps all installed fine. I found this from someone elses post in another forum I think. Good luck.

easy solution is to go to samfirmware and download the latest available rom for your model.

There is no N950K, like the US variants, all the Korean variants were unified into one SKU, which is the SM-N950N.

SM-N950F (Exynos Single SIM)
SM-N950F/DS (Exynos Dual SIM)
SM-N950N (South Korean carrier variant, Exynos)
SM-N950U (US Snapdragon 835 Single SIM variant, Locked Bootloader)
SM-N950W (Canadian Snapdragon 835 Single SIM, Locked Bootloader)
SM-N9500 (Chinese Snapdragon 835 Dual SIM, Unlocked Bootloader)
Preferably get either of the first two, they're unlocked and it doesn't really matter whether you get the Dual SIM or not since the software updates and all are the same.

Ah, that explains it with the SM-N950F/DS I have, which is the variant sold here in Singapore. I'd be willing to bet the SM-N950F has a different SIM tray.
Besides looking at the label on the bottom of the box, another way to identify the SM-N950F/DS variant is the presence of the Samsung "DUOS" logo on the top of the left side of the box, where the carrier logo would be on a carrier variant.
Additionally, Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note8 sold in Singapore have an extra Samsung Singapore support sticker on the top of the inner lid of the box, and as with past Galaxy phones sold in the same country, there's an extra brochure (separated from the documentation) highlighting some features (some of them specific to here) like Smart Switch, Samsung Pay, Samsung Concierge, and Smart Academy.

Except, I do actually live in Singapore*, where it has a recommended retail price of S$1398, and it seems to be more expensive in Australia.
*I'm currently on holiday with some relatives in Perth, that's why I bothered to research the Australian retail price.
Oh yeah! I just remembered, Samsung Pay appears to be region/country specific. I'm not sure if there'll be a way to sideload a different country version without rooting, or if the user would have to use Android Pay instead. At least, after finding out while browsing the "My Apps" list in Galaxy Apps, I now have a second reason why I bought mine in my home country (besides the price difference).
I can post a screenshot of what I mean here, or you can watch this video I just uploaded, where you can also see my particular unit I just mentioned:
Oh, and if you want to see them, more photos I posted on Instagram, and I have even more photos of mine.

Samsung Pay will activate in your country when you activate the phone with a SIM card from that country, doesn't matter where you bought it.
Singapore's default CSC is XSP, activating the phone with a Singaporean SIM card will activate XSP on the phone and you'll be able to use Samsung Pay in Singapore.
Suppose you take the phone to Australia cause you've moved there. Reset it, activate it with an Australian SIM card. Origin CSC stays as XSP, active CSC however becomes XSA or any other Australian CSC and Samsung Pay will work there too.
Keep in mind this only applies to international model phones (N950F), and not the other variants.
The issue with the Korean Note FEs was that they were all South Korean carrier phones which meant they could only be used there for Samsung Pay and nowhere else.

Oh, I get it now. I'll go update the description of my video.
The thing is, I saw these packages in Galaxy Apps:
(It disappeared, but I remember it being there when I made the video yesterday)
Oh yeah, and a small side effect for me that can be ignored: I bought my Note8 from someone else, who got it from Singtel, and when I set it up for the first time, I didn't have my SIM card installed, which had it set the CSC to XSP, and install that carrier's bloatware. (I did it like this first because I wanted to try some stuff that I couldn't try on the retail demo unit, theming being one of them) I did a reset, and put in my M1 SIM card. This time, only "My Singtel" app installed, and I could disable that and "Singtel Apps" packages in the Apps section in Settings.
I did, however, find out a way to view the active CSC, which I remembered not being able to do on my Note3 a few years ago.

I really don't understand Samsung's choices sometimes, at time I feel totally mind boggled by some of the decisions that Samsung makes, like putting Tizen on Gear smartwatches & making it incompatible with Android Wear, why not make Gear line of run on both Android's os & Samsung's Tizen os just like our Notes & S line phones do, if they couldn't put both operating systems on the devices then why not make a line that runs Android os & a line that runs Tizen os, the same frustration with Samsung when they short the US customers with base variant phones that only come with 64gb of rom, we do always get blessed with the flagship snapdragon processor chip, I definitely appreciate Samsung for that b/c the Snapdragon processors are always better, what I don't understand is why bless the states with Snapdragons flagship processor chips but then turn around & short us by only releasing base version variants that only come with 64gb, bless us with the best processors & cut us off at the knees by only releasing a base model with 64gb of rom while Samsung releases variants with 64gb rom & 128gb rom & 256gb rom.
I WANT the 256gb version, I always go for the variant that has the largest screen size & the most memory.
Samsung should release all variants in every country, it shouldn't be a problem for anyone in any country to go to Samsung's global site or our country's site & order whatever device we want with whatever variant that we want.

SAMSUNG NOTE 8 SM-N950U and SM-N9500
Hello All. Please, I need some help. I have a Samsung note 8 SM-N950U as it says in the "About Phone" option with the Snapdragon 835. When i take photos or connect the phone to a PC, it says Samsung note 8 with model number SM-N9500.
I am confused because it is a single sim device and all the SM-N9500 are dual sim device. I was thinking of flashing with the China firmware but i am scared the IMEI will become locked again.
What should I do at this point?

Boot into download mode and it'll show you the actual model number.
If it's SM-N9500, you can flash the TGY SM-N9500 ROM and you should be able to get dual SIM functionality.

Does Samsung Pay work on SM-N9500? SM-N950FD?

Does the US, UK or Australia Samsung Pay work on Note 8 SM-N9500 or SM-N950FD models?
Anyone tested or confirmed this? With the S8's seems like it will work if you have the UAE model of the phone and you sideload the samsung pay app (not sure about the HK version). The note 8 UAE model is SM-N950FD which is also a global model so it might work on this if similarly one has the UAE firmware on it + sideloads Samsung Pay? SM-N9500 even work at all?
No one has used or uses or has tried to use Samsung Pay on SM-N9500 or SM-N950F/DS models anywhere? Can't be possible.
I have a SM-N9500, and Google Play claims Samsung Pay is not supported in my 'device country'. But indeed it is supported in the country where I leave and where my Google account is based (and by my bank). As I understand, SM-N9500 is a Chinese version (not my country), and yet Samsung Pay is well supported in China as well.
In any case, it looks like Samsung Pay will not work on this phone.
---------- Post added at 07:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:36 AM ----------
On a second thought, did you try to edit build.prop to spoof your device number? The hardware platform of those models is the same as any phone supporting Samsung Pay. So I cannot think for any reason it would not work other than country support.
@younoob
did you try it? did you try different sim card and reset? did you try sideloading Samsung Pay 2.7.03 (apk from apkmirror) and Framework 2.7.51 immediately after reset?
I tried resetting my google play localization, but it did not work. So I failed to install Samsung Pay at all. My problem is, if there is ever an apk that I do not want to install from an unofficial source, that's Samsung Pay. It has direct access to credit cards...
Resetting localization will not work. Sideloading SPay is not an issue now really is it if all you want to do is confirm whether it works to start with or not. And there is nothing wrong with sideloading in general so long as you are careful with your choices.

Resetting localization indeed did not work. N9500 is a Hong Kong and China version. Any exported phone should come from Hong Kong -at least mine is. I am sure that Samsung Pay works abroad as well, no matter the country. So my guess is that if one installs and runs it in Hong Kong, then it should work in other supported countries as well. Isn't it? Maybe one can spoof the location somehow, not sure how to do that without root. Any idea?
As for sideloading, of course there is nothing wrong with it. Just, for something like Samsung Pay, you really really need to trust your apk source. A malicious person may get the original apk and somehow engineer a modification (basically send all the data to a server), and your bank cards AND identity would be totally compromised. At the best of my understanding, this can be done without any need to crack the Samsung Pay security features.

Well according to what I read and some I asked, no. Samsung Pay may be localised via the model number and active sim card on first boot. You managed to spoof the model number?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/how-add-samsung-pay-to-sm-g950fd-dual-t3600699
You will see in above thread that the exynos model with XSG firmware is able to have the framework and samsung pay sideloaded and it works with US cards. On the Note 8's this likely means we can buy any SM-N950F/DS and do the same whereas the SM-N9500 SPay would work in HK and apparently if I read correctly HK has some more advanced SPay features... Now if only Samsung would release a 128 or 256gb mode of SM-N950F/DS already!
Actually changing the location in payments.google.com partly worked. I located myself in Hong Kong, then cleared Google Play data and rebooted the app. It took more than one day for Google to update the status, but now Samsung pay just appeared as one of my (preloaded) apps. Yet, basically only American Express will work worlwide (and Hong Kong cards). On the good side, you can successfully upload all the fidelity cards and other magnetic cards that are not related to your banks.
I did not spoof the model since the last time I checked taking root on Qualcomm note 8 looked risky and N9500 is not even mentioned in the thread. Did you get root?

Not surprised that work as you got a HK model and enabled SPay HK. See if the same is possible for US or your own country.
A root was released just few days ago for qualcomm models that will not trip knox apparently but charge shows 80% or something.
Did you root? As they do not mention N9500 in that thread
I have 9500 hk version. It had samsung pay preloaded. My location is taiwan and using taiwan sim. When i open samsung pay it had a restore previous card option. (i used samsung pay on a previous samsung phone) i restored it but had to activate the card again. Have used it here in taiwan and no problem. The only downside is promotions on the app and store membership cards are all still hong kong.

Can't flash XSA on N9500. What do you mean by limited version of Samsung Pay on your SM-N950F/DS? What cards/banks are working on it and what aren't?

I am sorry I thought you were looking for answer for either model so I posted regarding my experiences with the F model.
Samsung Pay features work off of your devices CSC. When I first set up my Samsung Pay account it was on a S6 Active obviously a US Model. With that said my F model devices have Samsung Pay with MST support, Membership Cards and that is it for options that I can us in the US. So I get Australian promotions not US promotions on and no rewards or gift cards. I still get rewards points when I use my F models but I have to access them through my ATT Note 5 or see the points through my Gear App for my Gear S3. Basically a huge cluster f#ck and hopefully they will make Samsung Pay dependent on your SIM not your CSC I highly doubt it though.
I have a Citi Visa and Citi MC on my phone and Gear S3. Samsung did change things around so you can import cards which worked on my Note 8. When I moved from my S6 Active to S7 Edge F model I had to setup all the cards and they worked. So the guess off the top my head would be any card that currently supports Samsung Pay should work but it is Samsung Pay so it is a guess.

Have you tried the XSG firmware method that apparently is reporting success? Appears to involve flashing XSG and then sideloading framework and samsung pay app after which supposedly everything works fine.

Ran XSG on my S7 Edge for a while and flashed XSA. XSG you get the Ramadan calendar, no white pages and you have to screw around side loading and worry about an update breaking it. That is why I gave up on XSG it updated and broke my work around . Unless something has changed I don't recall having rewards or gift cards but that might have changed. XSA is just flash and your done Samsung pay updates with no issues. For me I need a backup device so to get all Samsung Pay features it is just as easy firing up my Note 5 to access them.

On XSG you couldn't sideload white pages? What firmware are you running on your note 8?

White pages is CSC dependent also. It's cooked into all the firmware and you can find it and try activating it through a Nova activity but it would never work. You can download Hiya apk which white pages is built off of but it doesn't integrate with the system like white pages does. I have fiddled with so many firmwares and Samsung Pay and Framework apk just got sick of experimenting.Running XSA and happy with the firmware and my Note 8. And if am wrong on anything I have said someone please correct me because I would like to know.
I can use Samsung Pay on my non-rooted SM-N950F/DS on AT&T as well as GoogleFi.

Can't get Samsung Pay to work on international Note 8.

I bought an international model of the Note 8, model N950FXXS3CRF1, and ever since day 1, I can't get Samsung Pay to work. I was able to get it setup for my Gear S3, so it's not like I'm completely unable to use it, but this is a bit concerning for me in a way that I'll explain in a moment.
First off, when I go to the Galaxy Apps store, I'm unable to find Samsung Pay for download. Naturally, I went and just hunted down the latest APK for the app instead, though, whenever I open it, it just says it's temporarily unable to connect. Again, this doesn't affect the Gear S version of the app, it's still fully-functioning, it's only doing this for the phone version.
Now, the reason this is concerning to me is because, as far as I can tell after doing a bit of research, is that the version of the Note 8 port of Android belongs to a country that doesn't have support for Samsung Pay, thus leading me to suspect that there might be some more features I'm missing out on.
So, can anyone tell me which version of the Note 8 firmware I can install that'll allow me use of the phone version of Samsung Pay?
Where will you use your phone? You can install Mexico's FW, it will include samsung pay, no need to side load

Under the Claro section
If you purchased your Note 8 from a grey importer. Chances are you receieved a Note 8 that was not intended for use in your country. Despite the fact that it is an international variant. If the device is not intended for use in your country, you won't be able to use Samsung Pay on your device.
