How do you deal with the Huawei Launcher, is replacing it better than an App Drawer? - P8lite General

Hello,
I do not personally own a Huawei P8, but I noticed that the Laucher on this device lacks an app Drawer and is an iOS like launcher. I personally don't like, but my cousin that owns the device didn't want to use an alternative launcher (Nova, Action Launcher, etc..)
I created this app for him (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.wazabe.appdrawer) and I wanted to have your feedback, as users of the device.
Might such an app be usefull for you or have you already replaced the launcher.
Are there any advantages of keeping stock launcher?

But in the next Android, it's the new way to don't have app drawer. It's already like this on new Sammy firmware like note 5.
Personally your app is not bad but too look like cyanogen for me
The ram consumption is better without a app drawer of course. The first time it's not easy but not a big deal to use a different launcher if you are not happy like this. They are a lot on the playstore.
On the p8 lite with your app because it's not a launcher you can't also remove the app on the launcher and we have two sames app in the drawer and on the launcher and it's making the system slowly and more ram consumption.
With nova, it's so smooth

first thing i did, when i got the phone, was installing Nova

Yeah, same here, I always use Nova Launcher

Loaded the Blackberry Priv launcher and some apps like Hub. You can get it from Cobalt's thead over at Crackberry.
http://forums.crackberry.com/androi...-any-android-device-no-root-required-1059855/

The first time it's a little bit disappointing, but not so hard to habitual to it.
Nova is really smooth and not a big ram consumers

[THEME] Next Launcher 3D vs NOVA

When I first switched to androids from iPhones (I still feel dirty for being so loyal to iOS for so long...) and looked into launchers I was steered toward Nova launcher. I found it to be pretty nice and functional but wasn't sure what all the fuss about it being the best launcher was. I was told that Next 3D Launcher would destroy my battery life and hog system resources along with not being all that customizable. Well, after installing it on my S5 G900A I haven't found any of the claims to be anywhere near true.
My battery life has been more than fine, it runs as smooth as a baby's powdered bottom, and I can use all widgets and customize everything from page transitions to "flat" 3D to full 3D. I feel like it has an infinitely more unique look and functionality compared to Nova launcher and while I won't say that Nova is 'stale', to me it feels like everyone has it and therefore the wow-factor of how awesome its supposed to be is greatly diminished.
I love Next 3D and wholeheartedly suggest it as a more than viable alternative to Nova.
Too expensive for what ya get.... Nova is better on the wallet and third party support...just change the theme and it's like a whole new launcher.

Nova for free is great, themes work across many of the launchers and icon packs for that matter.

Both Launchers are really great at what they do. They both focus on two different aspects of launchers. I will say this, No one has ever asked about my phone (Galaxy s5 active) launcher when I have Nova on it. However when they see the 3d the questions and double takes come. However as fluid and perfect as Nova runs you can't dismiss it.
Only qualm about the 3d launcher is it's 16.99 and then they still have the nerve to charge you for add ons like themes and such. Kind of turning me off to the perception of greed with the Go Launcher Dev team.

Thank you Sir...g
Hey OP:
Just curious.....Why did you put [THEME] in the thread title?
Next launcher 3D is a great launcher. I used it for about a year and was very pleased with it.
I use Apex Launcher pretty much NOVA
Yeah I prefer Apex.
Tapped It!
I discovered Epic Android Learn launcher and have been using it over Nova lately. It is, of course, a more AOSP feel like Google Launcher.
Personally, I used Next 3D on my Note 3 and my S5 Active without battery drain or glitches. Love it!
I am new to this but I am looking for a great launcher for my s5 01A. Any advice would be appreciated. I am looking for a new rom as well. Are there certain launchers that work only with certain themes or are the launchers universal of the OS just depends on phone? Thank you.
I have very recently tried a whole slew of launchers - giving each one about 12 hours of rigorous beating.
I looked at the pro paid versions of Apex, Nova, Next, Go, SPB, and TSF as well as several free/trial versions of a few others I quickly uninstalled and deleted. In each case I downloaded everything there was available from the developer /for/ the launcher in question as well as 8 or 10 of the top rated themes (which also happened to appeal to me). I literally spent every waking hour of an 8 or 9 consecutive day period doing nothing but installing Launchers, setting up any and all widgets made specifically for them (or my own 3rd party favorites to fill any holes), populating home-panels, checking out icon packs, and learning & getting used to the specialties offered by each. I did this all in 4.4.2 (KitKat) on the 7" screen of my Sharp SH-06F.
I agree with @imwillzillla about the difference between Nova and Next. They are completely different types of products even though they are both Launchers. Or maybe I should say they each appeal to a totally different kind of user. If I were to compare them directly I would need use subjective and flowery language- maybe something like:
Nova is everything you think your phone should have shipped with...
Next is allot of what you dream your phone will be like in the future...
Personally I like futuristic dazzle (being a retired CG artist) so Next was totally my cup of tea! Man that thing rocks! But I dunno if I would be using it to manage a company or as my daily scheduler if I were a corporate CEO - although... Next actually gives you (essentially) two launchers for the price of one and the 2D one would work fine for a "salaryman" (maybe "business jock" in western vernacular?).
I didn't really care for Nova as much as the TSF, Go, or Apex Launchers. Nova felt ummm, a bit antiquated maybe. None of these /launchers/ noticeably eat battery power more or less than the others - but some of the widgets sure do. For example the Next Music Player has a full screen widget which when the "Gravity" feature is turned on is like something out of "Alice In Wonderland" - you almost want to reach into and behind the graphics it's so parallaxically (my new word) convincing! Leaving that widget displayed with the screen set to 100% brightness and screen Sleep turned completely OFF cut my battery life to 12 hours. Displaying a different home panel with "Gravity" turned off it lasts about 16 hours. Setting the screen to Sleep in 5min and using the phone only 5 or 10 times in a day it lasts about 50 hours. As an MP3 player using the Next Player without the widget in my back pocket or on my desk the battery lasts juuuust 60 hours.
- That's all with WiFi on, BlueTooth off, GPS off, and using wired headphones or a cable to my HiFi rig (no phone internal speakers).

Hi Paul,
The answer to you first question depends what is you want and expect from the launcher. Pretty much all of them are improvements over what the S5 ships with. Most of them offer things like custom folders, multi-select, different wipes, and alternative icon sets. With a few of them I have found that you can install their custom icon sets, then uninstall the launcher and the custom icon remain - so there may be generic custom icon packs which work on any or most launchers - including the default ones your phone came with.
Some of the better launchers embed a video presentation of their launcher in action directly into their play-store download page which is a pretty good way of guessing at whether or not you might wanna try that particular one. If the Launcher's DL page doesn't have a video then YouTube usually does. In my case I used both resources and and watched at lease 30min. of video in total of each before I went for the install action. You can see from the above post which ones I went for after that initial research step. After purchasing and installing six different launchers and all of their associated proprietary widgets & etc. I found the Next 3D Shell Launcher to be the best fit for me. Configured like a wildman it's pretty over the top. I wanted a launcher that had all the bells and whistles AND impressed the heck out of whoever might be looking on - including me. A conversation starter if you will. In that regard Next Launcher delivers in spades! My phone is about 2/3 the speed of yours or even slightly less and Next is very smooth on it. But anyway, that's what I wanted out of it - you may have a completely different set of expectations and desires so you need to ask yourself.
Feel free to ask me any questions about any of the ones I listed above. It might take me a few days to see and answer the question but I'll be happy to do so.
On your second question it seems that there is no dependency on a particular ROM by any given Launcher - they all just work. Some require a specific minimum version of Android but the S5 I believe is installed with the very newest Android version so no problems for you there. A few launchers have some functions available only if Root access is available so rooting your S5 might be a consideration if you want or need those functions. The ones I noticed weren't of any significant advantage so I didn't look into rooting my device. And lastly some Launchers have some trouble with some specific phone models. For example there used to be problems with Next on a few of the Samsung phones but that's been addressed already - etc..
One thing to really look into IMO is how much free stuff there is available for the specific launcher and how much requires payment - and I don't really mean icon sets and themes as much as I do custom widgets or tools etc. which are designed to work exclusively with the Launcher in question. If you click on the company name of the developer for the Launcher you're interested in (at the playstore) - that usually calls up a list of items that will tell you what you want to know here.
L8r, again, feel free to ask anything and have fun trying stuff out!

Yes you can , I haven't found anything next 3d couldn't do . Plus there are hundreds of themes and widgets t choose from and most are free . I couldn't go back to using my phone without it , I had to wipe everything and my phone wasn't the same without it.

Launchers?

Any one got a good recommendations for launchers?

Nova. Love it!
The most popular ones are Apex or Nova Launcher.
Both are great and you can't go wrong with either, I personally use Nova.
i've been using Nova forever and it's great. finally back on a Nexus with Verizon and giving Google Now launcher a run, really enjoy it but missing gestures (especially with such a large device) and icon packs. Wish there was a way to get icon packs to run on here without xposed.
I use Apex when I want the classic style launcher back. It works well.
+1 Nova Launcher Prime
Hands down Nova with prime, I also have Apex but it's nowhere near as smooth.
Action Launcher if you're looking for something a little different. Shutters and covers will change the way you use your phone.
Nova Launcher Prime is definitely the best launcher I've used
Nova Prime for me as well. I have tried others but always come back to Nova
Themer and yahoo if lazy, Nova or Apex if you aren't haha
anyone know if there is a way to back up your launcher set up/widgets in Titanium Backup? I tried backing up Google Now Launcher data and restore it when flashing a new ROM but to no avail...
Buzz Launcher
One of my very first thoughts when I got to the home screen on my N6 was wow the icons are huge. I love the Now launcher but give us some stock options for adjusting....as a result I installed buzz launcher (never used before). I have been very happy with it and I love the quick abilities to change themes. Of course, like other launchers you can change the grid sizes.
Nova The Best!!!
Nova Prime is my favorite.
Nova. Best ever. Epic launcher is a close 2nd.
Nova hands down.
Been rocking it since the days of the T-Mobile HTC G2. Ended up going for Nova Prime and never looked back.

Definately, I struggle to use any other launcher. Everything about it is just well thought out.
Nova prime

Cm launcher vs apus launcher?

Which is better? In terms of speed, app launching, battery consumption overall.
Stock launcher works fine for me, even though that wasn't one of your choices. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for; speed, the stock is plenty fast, app launching is really just shortcuts so all should be the same. If I had to choose it would be the stock or Google now launcher. Both are similar and speedy.

Your right it's all about preference. For me I use nova for its insane speed and low ram usage
I wouldn't say its just shortcuts because how you lay the shortcuts out changes how you use the device and how you like to use the device changes how you lay out your shortcuts. This is not the same thing and an important distinction because you cant always do what you want and this is where the launcher matters... Some give you options others do not which can allow you to set up a device more to your preference. Outside of the traditional launcher scheme used by Nova, Apex and many others you can also use contextual launchers like Aviate or launchers that are just plain different like Action 2 which step outside the box.
IMO picking a launcher is highly subjective and they really need to be taken for good test drive.

Your very right! I have literally used every single launcher out there that's in the top 10 best ones. My top 3 is nova, action launcher 3, and cm launcher
I checked out the action launcher 3 it was pretty awesome I want to check it out more. I have used and can't finding something as good as apex myself. But that advanced seems pretty neat doesn't do much but it does what I need
There is a launcher called dodol launcher that is slowly growing on me .. If I ever man up and pay for nova launcher I think it'd be the obvious choice.

Touchwiz or 3rd party launcher

All,
Just wondering what launcher are you using on your Note 5? The stock Touchwiz or a 3rd party ie Nova or Action Launcher? I'm currently using Action launcher but actually considering going back to Touchwiz.
Love to hear what you guys doing.
Love action launcher! Full of great and smart features. Bringing in custom icons along with changing theme has made the phone a lot more usable for me.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I usually like nova with the hipster icon set but am liking the stock look so far. Will end up going back to nova once Im tired of stock and vice versa!
I hate say it but I'm still using stock. This is a 1st

Nova all the way. Although I have installed the free material design theme and I love it.
Yeah I usually always switch to Nova but for the first time I'm finding the stock launcher not to be horrible.
I'm all for Nova, It does everything I need so I haven't had any reason to stray away from it.
I've always had a 3rd party launcher installed... but as a first, I'm still using TW and am not annoyed. Though I wish the desktop had a landscape mode.
I'm actually really liking the stock TouchWiz launcher. Plenty customizable and crazy fast.
I use Google now launcher or what ever google calls it these days
I typically use Nova. However I loaded it on my Note5 and it doesn't feel as snappy as TouchWiz (can't believe I said that) no matter how much I tinkered with the animation settings, etc.
Using action launcher 3 here, things are pretty great!
Still stock launcher. If I switch it will be to nova, as that is my preference.
However, right now with the material dark them I'm kind of liking the stock launcher...
Rocking out with Stock launcher for now but generally on all of my phones it's a toss up between the Nova launcher or Google now launcher.
Using nova. I did set up the stock but I hate the page indicators which always make my screens look top heavy because i have a 5x5 grid
I am also a nova fan. been using it for years now.
the main reason I just nova is because of the grid setup. Don't like having such a large screen and such big icons, it feels like a waste of space.
Stock TouchWiz is really good on this phone, I can't really come up with a good reason to change launchers, first time I haven't run Nova launcher in years
Used TW for a couple days. Then switched to Nova as I always do. Might try Action Launcher, my buddy swears by it.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I have to admit TW is much better this time around. However, I am still using Nova Launcher. I just like the ability to tweak everything slightly to be exactly how I like. The single largest reason why I went with Nova instead of TW is the option to remove padding around widgets though. it just looks so much nicer IMO.
Solo launcher is pretty good too - you need to remove some of the crapware but it's pretty nippy

Better Launcher for Z3C?

I am getting tired of annoying features of the Sony launcher, like "suggested apps" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/how-to-remove-search-bar-xperia-home-t3355603).
I'd love to get some opinions about alternative launchers with the following attributes:
* simple, uncluttered, minimalist appearance
* customizable, to make it even simpler
* esthetically clean and elegant (no graphic or color overload)
You get the idea!
Thanks,
JM
I have installed Nova launcher from October 1, 2014 in the Z3C.

+1 on nova launcher, been using it for years now.
Another vote for Nova.
Nova is nice, but Apex launcher has nearly identical features without requiring upgrades to the paid app. Plus, I think it's just a hair lighter on system resources.

Thank you all for chiming in! I installed Nova, but will try Apex as well and report back.

the launcher itself is great, only a few things, which are editable ( Disappear for example ) are needed. Tried the google now launcher and apex and were disappointed so i decided to mod the stock launcher to my wish

Actually, when you dont know how to edit apks its the easiest way to use serjars xposed module ( Dont got the link right know, have to look it up and edit it in ) Requires root and a working recovery
Makes the whole appearence editable ( Icon Numbers in the Home Dock, Grid sizes and dont know what else.
Even the app suggestions are stuck in the past.
