U.S. Galaxy Note 4 on Wind Mobile in Canada: Can't Connect to Network - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1) My friend (U.S.) gave me (Canada) a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4. I am trying to use it with Wind Mobile.
2) He claims that T-Mobile performed a carrier unlock, which seems to be confirmed because putting a foreign SIM card in does not ask for an unlock code.
3) My Wind Mobile SIM can't register on network. I tried a Rogers SIM as well and a different Wind Mobile SIM and they didn't work either.
4) The Wind Access Point Names have been entered, but manually selecting the network does not work either. It just says "Unable to connect, try later".
Am I missing something here? Is there another type of lock I need T-Mobile to remove? Do I need to flash the ROM? Thanks in advance.

If same sim cards work in other phones i would think that phone is blacklisted. On the other hand nowadays tmobile can issue temporary unlock codes for international travel. I dont know if Canada is considered international or not. Tmobile will permanently fully unlock device when paid off.

[Q] How come my O2x is unlocked?

Okay, so I'm pretty sure when I bought this phone with contract it was network restricted.. I changed my carrier yesterday to t-mobile, so I bought a sim unlock on the net. I received the SIM unlock code, I couldn't get to the input field though (I'm on CM10), but then I was playing with settings and I could successfully connect to T-Mobile, however the signal is weaker than it was before and it has disconnected twice, but still.. so I don't need the unlock code no more am I right? It was cheap so it doesn't matter, I just don't understand how can this phone can be unlocked.
Just curious, what was your original provider? I don't know specifically about T-Mobile, but some carriers allow other SIMs to be used, because they are sharing networks. For example, if you have a locked Rogers phone in Canada, you can use it with a SpeakOut SIM, because SO is riding on Rogers network. Could it be a similar situation for you?
But it's strange that you don't see a prompt for a network lock code when you insert a non-original SIM... I also had to unlock my phone by code, and I got the prompt right after putting in a different SIM. Could it be because you are on CM ROM? A general recommendation is to always unlock you phone from a stock ROM, before flashing a custom one. I am not sure about this, but just thinking out loud...

I was on Telenor Hungary, now it's T-Mobile, they are whole different providers, no relations at all. Well yeah, I've thought about that stock ROM thing too, but I still don't think it would connect to a different carrier because of the custom ROM. But it works strangely though, couldn't set up mobile net yet, and when I was on the T-Mobile hotline, it disconnected and the phone said the SIM might be corrupted.
So I tested, I can make phone calls, but everytime I reboot the phone I have to connect to the network manually from settings.. So I'm gonna try with stock ROM, and use the sim unlock code. Can I also use stock-based ROMs? Thanks.

Is the phone sim unlocked? I don't know how it works with Sprint but that would be the case with GSM providers
If it's Sprint, it's CDMA.AT&T and T-Mobile are the only GSM providers in the US. However, it should work there if you get the SIM unlocked. The SIM unlock code is formulated based on the IMEI, so there are three ways to get it:
From Sprint. Probably the simplest, but tricky if you're not the phone's original owner.
Pay a site or unlocking service with the algorithm that decodes it from the IMEI. Usually runs around $10-$20.
Try the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586704
You can also try this app, but it only works on rooted phones running the original ROM:

Good luck.
How do i go about unlocking the Sim? I cant get the unlock box where I put in the code to come up!

Bro, A CDMA PHONE CANNOT BE UNLOCKED. IT WON'T EVEN WORK ON ANOTHER CDMA CARRIER LIKE VERIZON. ONLY SPRINT SIMs WILL WORK.
Make sure u buy a GSM phone if u plan 2 use it on another carrier.
But the phone uses GSM! It picks up the network here but I just cant get the unlock box

Then it simply isn't a Sprint handset. CDMA phones can only work on that particular network. The phone is custom-made just for that network

MetroPCS uses T-MOBILE networks just like Cricket Wireless, my current carrier, uses At&t. Have you tried any sim card from any other carrier to see if it's a problem with settings or with the sim card itself?

Disregard this step because you have exynos.
I have it working for metropcs. Follow the guide for changing carriers and then use the "TMK" mobile code. I'd recommend the unlocked firmware (xaa) or else you'll flash tmobiles with all the bloat.
You will also need to call metropcs from a phone that you are not switching the sim on. They will ask for your imei number and switch it over. The sim cards used by metropcs only work for the phone that it is registered to.

VERY Odd Problem - SIM Card Locked, Requesting PIN. Only on This Phone & SIM Combo

VERY Odd Problem - SIM Card Locked, Requesting PIN. Only on This Phone & SIM Combo
On each boot, the phone asks for "SIM network unlock PIN", and otherwise will read "No SIM card" in the notification bar.
What's odd however is this phone is unlocked. It's an AT&T Nexus 6, and was previously working under Cricket Wireless. The SIM card is from Mint Mobile, and works with my unlocked LG G5. It's only this phone & SIM combination together that's causing issues.
Trying to access APN settings gives the message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".
I've tried factory resets, as well as full flashes back to stock, etc.
I've never encountered this before, if anyone has any ideas or input I'd appreciate it.
Sounds like it is NOT unlocked. Since Cricket Wireless is an MVNO directly owned by AT&T, it makes sense to me that an locked AT&T device may work on Cricket.
Test with a friends SIM card. The Nexus 6 works on all carriers in the United States- Sprint, Verizon, Tmobile or AT&T. If their SIM card does the same thing, yea this confirms that it's locked. Buy an unlock code, it should only be a few dollars I reckon.
edit: also please note there is a difference between an unlocked/locked bootloader and unlocked/locked network. They are NOT mutually exclusive.
