N920a with Uninstaller pro issue - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had the Att variant (N920A) for about a month now when all of a sudden MMS stopped working. If I send a pic message the picture disappears as soon as I hit send and the other party never receives anything from me. If I receive an mms I get the download box that when pressed will never actually download.
I work for Att, so I tested my Sim in another note 5 and everything works fine, so I know it's just gonna be a factory reset to sort the issue out.
Grabbed Uninstaller Pro to wipe all the unneeded apps before I run a full backup with helium so I don't have to bother setting my phone up again.
When I first ran Uninstaller pro I noticed a lot ( like hundreds ) of third-party apps that are highlighted in red that show as frozen. I know for a fact I haven't frozen any apps myself, with Uninstaller pro or any other app for that matter. Also some of the apps have strange names that I don't recognize at all. (I'll list a few on a screen shot, maybe someone can identify something). Uninstaller Pro will not allow me to unfreeze them, I only have the option to Uninstaller them or reset them, but I'm reluctant to mess with apps I don't recognize.
My question is how can these apps be frozen without my doing so, why can't I unfreeze them, why are they there in the first place, and could this maybe be the cause of the mms issue?
For the record I've run through all the usual troubleshooting for mms issues. Apn settings are correct, ad block isnt/has never been installed. MMS is enabled on the messaging app, and I've tried several third party messaging apps to no avail.
Google Drive link to a folder with a few shots of the frozen apps: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B24oiB-uu3o5Ulp1WmxtckhCU1k
This is a very small fraction of the total amount of frozen apps. Each group of apps has the same name for the first part of the filename with about 50 entries that have different endings. Ballpark is probably about 450 total frozen entries.
Thanks in advance for an insight on the matter

Looks mostly like bloat. I do not know for sure though. Maybe someone in the AT&T Note 5 section of XDA can be of more help. Take it to a Best Buy and ask them to flash your firmware for you or if you work at an AT&T store maybe have it done there. I am not sure if Smart Switch supports the A variant. Either way, good luck.

Google blocks non-T-mobile IP addresses from downloading premium apps so just make sure you're connected to 3G/Edge and it should download.

Did you move your apps to sd ? This could also be a problem when installing certain apps.

Just where did you get this bit of information? I have update several times my paid protected apps (such as SanpPhoto Pro) over my wifi. Without a hitch. I believe a lot of people are just jumping to ridiculous conclusions, like Google is blocking paid apps to root users, or updates are blocked to root users, or you can't download over wifi, etc. I believe most of these issues are due to the heavy load being placed on the Market Servers during and after the large update that allowed for paid apps. Also something to think about is the fact that the two users in this thread with issues have a similar situation...
The OP bought these apps and then got a replacement phone, perhaps there is something that is keeping it from working on a second device (would make sense, all the paid cell phone apps I used in the past were tied to IMEI numbers).
The last person to post an issue stated they bought the app, then wiped and "rooted" their phone. However, they did not state if they were getting the "Download Unsuccessful" message, so it is not entirely clear if the issue is the same. This could be a similar situation, or it could be indicative of another method of identifying the original installation phone.
I think they may be very closely tied together because there are other things stored on the phone when an app is purchased. There is a zip file in the /data/app directory (which may need to be present for updates to take place, not sure) there is the app in /data/app-private (obviously), but there is also information stored in the /data/dalvik-cache (which may hold the key to these issues - just a guess), and there may be something else I am overlooking.
It is entirely possible that there is data stored on the phone when an app is purchased to help identify the hardware to the market place. I know purchases are supposed to be tied to your Google account, but do not know if the TOS of the Market allow for the use of purchased apps on more than one device. If they do not, there is probably some kind of protection involved.
Just some things to toss about in your heads, may not be anything to what I am saying... But... I could be onto something. Seeing how I am a JFRC33 "root" user, who downloads and update paid apps via my home wifi connection, without any issues. Yeah the first few days or week that paid apps went live there were some issues downloading the updates, but those were felt across the board, and do not exist anymore. Meaning they must have been general issues with the Market, not certain phones/software.

[Q] After travel to China, Market fails to show downloaded apps

Hi,
So I recently traveled out of the US to China for vacation, and when I was there I decided to check/download some updates for my Downloaded apps in the Android Market. Notably I could not see the Android Market Front Page when connected in China (must be Google block?), however I could see which of my apps had updates.
However, I'm back in the US now and when I go into the Market to update my apps, none of the downloaded apps are showing. I tried using Appbrain to update them, but that failed as well, and now the only apps that show up in my Market are the ones Appbrain listed as having updates. I tried using an app like Market History Delete but that didn't work either.
I figure it must be some Market sync issue or something, but is there anything that can be done short of doing a complete factory wipe? Thanks.
My wife and I came back from a 6 month stay in China last year. I had a similar issue. I think I has to go under manage applications, filer for "All", and force stop the app then uninstall updates. I then rebooted the phone and it worked for me. My wifes phone had the same problem but my solution did not work for hers. So I dont want to say it will work for you, but its did for me. I'm afraid I dont know what else to tell you. Let me know if it works for you.

[Q] [REQUEST] Motorola Services apk and NOT working Avast Anti-Theft web commands

It can be an interesting read!
Hi everyone! Do you use Avast Anti-Theft? ...
I have a problem and I'd like to check for possible reasons. Please help me!
I hope someone can send me the apk for Motorola Services (com.motorola.blur.service.blur.apk),
in a list of stock Razr i system apks the one for Motorola Services is called CCE.apk. (for stock Razr i ICS)
I think I need that app cause since it's gone Avast Anti Theft commands sent from the Avast site are not working,
the phone doesn't receive the commands. Sms commands sent to the phone do work.
I wanted to freeze these apps but forgot it and uninstalled them :/ These: (com.motorola.)atcmdlauncher.apk,
atcmdplugin.epu.apk, atcmdplugin.apk, atcmd.apk, atCommandService, AtProxy, BrowserMessage,
omadrm.apk, modempanicreporter.apk, meter.wisl.apk, smspush, DeviceStatistics, ModemStats,
OMAclienteprovisioning, OMAdownload, and others different other days.
Do you think this problem can be because of the lack of some of those apps?
If so, although I can't be exact, the last location hour reported in the avast anti theft maps is near the time I was
playing with my device. Which one can be the problem? Although, as of now with 5 days with this problem the location,
batery state and some configuration changes have been updated some times, but the Commands [still] don't work.
Everything else is working fine (wifi, 3G, Play Store, G+, online Gameloft games, maps, browser, etc).
And what is weird is that backups for all those apps are not working. The one for Motorola Services
shows only some kb of size (unusable). And other bad thing is that even if I restore the other missing apps they don't stick
and don't work, they're gone after reboot. :/ How to restore them?
I hope you guys can help me get back those apps so I can see if that's the problem.
Another reason can be: I was annoyed by the several Google Services (Google Play Services app) processes
running all the time. So I used ROM Toolbox's Advanced Freeze feature and unchecked to disable some of them.
It was all good for some days ("got rid" of them) untill I noticed my location in the Anti-theft maps wasn't updating... it all begun.
I had disabled Google Cloud Messaging (GCM.service) without knowing it (+ others) u.u But, I really think everything
else was working fine, though (even with GCM disabled o,o).
I noticed this because Avast site reported something like "GCM service is disabled in your device. Communication is not possible.
You'll be notified when it's back" when I tried to send commands. So I restored all of those processes to normal state.
Like 2 days after that Avast reported GCM was online again. I thought everything was Ok now, but no! Still the problem persists.
What I don't know if it's a problem caused by me or it's a default state is: When I check out Google Play Services in the running
processes view of ROM Toolbox app, then enter the Advanced Freeze view, the receivers "icing.impl.PowerConnectedReceiver"
and "mdm.ConnectivityReceiver" are disabled. I check their boxes to enable them, but after rebooting they are disabled again.
I'd like you guys check what is the state of these receivers in your Razr i, please. So I can know
To finish up, I, also, recommend Avast antivirus, if wanted it can be uninstalled after its Anti Theft feature is installed. I don't know how
hack proof it can be, but it can be very, very useful, specially because of the several remote commands it has. Try it n.n
I'm going to purchase the premium service after I get this problem solved. I have already sent my help
request to Avast on saturday. I'm waiting working days to get a reply.
Thanks for your kind help!
- L.
Solved!
Problem solved!
The problem was my router's firewall, it was miss-behaving. Ha
I disabled the Firewall and the device started to receive the web commans again n.n
I'm glad to know those System apps I deleted are not needed at all in the end. (But GCM (a.k.a. C2DM) do is needed for several tasks, of course)
Thanks for reading!

Confused about restore / PLay Store vs. Samsung

When doing a factory reset, it asks about restoring apps, etc. I check yes.
Then it seems it's doing it again through Samsung when I login to Samsung during setup.
Are redundant restores happening? Should I should one and not the other?
Any thoughts?
Yes they are basically redundant. I do both to restore as much data as possible and save myself some effort setting everything back up.
I use both also, often feel I'm wasting time but who knows.

its all about freshness.
so appart from apps, one thing samsung offers that goofle dosent is if u use stock launcher, homescreen layout and wallpaper and aod get restored. same goes for keyboard and related custom data associated to it if you use stock input.
wifi and bluetooth pairings would also be restored too, not to mention alarms also.
So in essence if one believes their next device is going to be another Samsung then perhaps best disable most if not all of the Google backup and restore options? If anything perhaps more added battery life perhaps.

well knowing google, apps are tagged from the playstore as being installed.( app library vs installed).so backups arent done on/from your device. when restoring they check last device ID and match the associated installed app from your library.
anyways thats what i think. so all in all not sure if disabling it would help or not.
BUT again, its all about the freshness.
which service offers the very last apps you installed?
but one thing to rhink about is: samsung will restore google play and samsung store apps.
where as whit Google, i think would only restore playstore apps(since they just check playstore library associated to device ID).
I was also referring to other things Google also backup. Turning these off.

so this just in, samsung backup dosent restore app data where as google does. so this means apps are restored but none of the custom data)settings) is actually restored (like rooted people do with titanium backup).
edit i should mention that i was on android pie doing a backup using smart switch. it asked me where i wanted it and i chose my ext sd card. unpon flashing a new rom and setting it up, i used again smart switch to to restore this time, so i chose the sd card logo at the the top right of the screen and it took a while. so not sure how this backup /restore method differs from the regular samsung cloud ...but it did not restore app data. since it was local i am a bit flabbergasted by these findings. would have expected data since google restores it from the network and does include it....i wont try the other regular method via Samsung cloud since the space allotted is limited to around 10 or 15 gig.in comparison my local backup with smart switch took over 25 gb(got 400+ apps) so thats why im not expecting any better viaa regular cloud sync... but we never know. maybe someone with a smaller volume of content can offer some results.
oh and on the flip side, samsung restores more apps than googles does. i suspect it dosnt check for the playstore app signature and just blindly backups all user apps.. just a darn shame about the data part...(not user settings data like passwords and for wifi and bluetooth pairing but acctual applicaion data)
just wanted to share my findings with you guys
google play back will restore all apps downloaded from the play store but it will not restore any app downloaded from other sources like galaxy apps or aptoide
samsung backup and restores all the apps that are installed on your devices regardless of where it came from
so usually i will let google restore my apps so that i will get the latest apps from the store then i will restore from samsung cloud to get the extra apps i installed from other sources plus my apps folders

Guide: Laggy V40? Make it ROCKET! No, it's not the UX!

Something was not right, for me, when scrolling in browsers and play store. It was laggy as hell. In other apps like facebook, tidal, instagram, youtube it was fluid and fast. But not on browsers. Tried all, chrome, opera, firefox, bromite, but all was stuttering like crazy. Play store also. I tought there are few rougue apps, twilight theme, fluid nav gestures and smart files manager, but I was so wrong. I also blamed the LG UI skin, but again was so wrong! So how did I resolved?
Guide - possible for any LG out there:
1. Remove SIM
2. Factory reset your phone in the way that doesn't require Internet to go through activating the phone. If you cant do this, it will fail. You should NOT put the email account. (I did reset from phone settings, not by keys. Also remove phone security such as pin, password, face id etc for this to work - just select unlocking the phone by sliding up)
3. DO NOT connect to internet, do not insert SIM.
4. Settings - apps - show system apps also.
5. Disable, remove permissions, set modify system setting to NO and draw over other apps to NO for all korean bloatware (screenshots attached) and for Google play services, google play store, google, and google service framework.
You must do this for each app. Example in screenshots.
6. Connect to wifi. Do not put your email in play store or gmail. Not yet.
7. As soon as connected slide down the notifications pannel. A pop up will apear after few seconds with Google trying to update some libraryes!!! Hit CANCEL!!!
8. Restart and connect with your email on Play Store. Disable asap app updates.
9. Your contacts won't sync now. Don't worry, its normal, you just removed some permissions.
10. Update and install all your apps from play store.
11. Re-enable that 4 google apps, give permissions to all for contacts, phone, wifi etc, enable also draw over other apps and modify system settings for these apps.
12. Insert SIM.
Enjoy! Hope it works for you all, V40, 30, G8, G7 etc
Weird, but its like I have stock vanilla now. Rocket!

Never had any lag on my Sprint v40 (root w. US Pie)...
Interesting guide. Could be useful for people without stock US Pie and loads of bloat for sure.
Sounds like a thing for korean models. Which is interesting. I used korean fw on my G5 V30 and now V40. Never had an issue. The G5 didn't even have root to disable or remove preinstalled apps. Factory reset alone would've fixed most issues anyway. Still, worth a shot if anyone does think their phones are slow or something.

I dont think ive experienced lag except in games. Good post nonetheless :good:
Make sure you disable LG root checker which has proven to cause laggy behavior in the past for rooted phones.
