Vensmile MXQ S905 with Remix OS - Remix Mini General

Stumbled upon this interesting box on AliExpress
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2016...-0-OS-Amlogic-S905-Quad-Core/32612308601.html
Anyone has an opinion on this? I wonder if it's officially supported.

Interesting but is it vaporware?

They say it's in stock but I'll ask the seller.
Also curious about the 2GB ram option they mention. Seems more desirable for an OS like this.

See if they are rootable too.

Okay, so I ended up chatting with one of them because they took a long time to reply.
There is no 2GB version available so I guess all those optional specs don't apply.
They say it's in stock and ready to be shipped. They also say the box is officially supported but now I'm not sure what that means exactly, support by Jide or Vensmile.
Wether it is rootable they couldn't confirm but isn't it already confirmed that Remix OS can be rooted?
Oh, I also asked if it's possible to install a stock image from a Vensmile S905 TV box to replace the Remix OS. They said that's possible.

With only 1gb Remix would be lagging.
As far as rooting goes, I know that the pc version can, the arm tablet can, but the mini not so easy.
Thanks for the information!

FAQ:
Will this fix my <non molly device>?
No, this rom is only for mollys, it will brick any other device.
Will OTAs work after flashing this?
Yes, that is the purpose of this
Do I need to be on a certain bootloader to use this?
No, it includes the original bootloader.
Do I need a custom recovery to flash this?
Yes, the stock recovery will not accept update zips that are not signed by google
Is this rooted?
No, the stock rom is not rooted, neither is this
My device won't finish booting after flashing.
If you were not originally on the same rom, you may need to do a factory reset to finish the process. Android does not like rom downgrades without a factory reset

Awesome! Thanks! I needed a way to restore my OTA abilities after rooting and doing some testing for someone. Did you make these yourself? And how? If you don't mind me asking. I didn't think dd would work without root.

Yes you need a usb keyboard to use CWM currently, there may be an update in the future to enable the dev button on the back to select in cwm like it does in fastboot. Until if/when that happens you either need a keyboard or to do everything manually via adb.
I don't have a keyboard however, I did all my work/testing with only adb.

@TheManii Are there any custom roms or anything like that for the ADT-1? I just got one in the mail from I assume google. I'm ready to begin , but I don't honestly know what people are interested in seeing on this device I have a madcatz mojo using all the adt-1 binaries except audio running cm-12 and android tv from this device. So if anyone is interested in that let me know please.

Hello UD,
There isn't any custom roms for the ADT-1 (So yours would be the first)
I for one would love to see a more recent build than the last OTA (LPX13D - OCT 29th) There have been rumors that we'd get the final Android Lollipop but nothing has surfaced.
How much work is involved in rolling an AOSP+ADT-1 Binaries+Android TV dependencies?
Cheers Rob.

It's possible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og-GDeRhJno but I could not get all the apps correctly working the main one being playstore , but I will try again look at the android build number and build date. I basically made a google apps package based on the adt-1 this is before I had one so possibly now I can get us an aosp 5.0.2 base working the Mojo in terms of hardware is similar to the adt-1 and for me to boot 5.0 on the mojo I needed adt-1 updated tegra 4 binaries so this shouldn't be hard at all once I work out the playstore issues.

Wow that is really impressive work, The current build on the ADT-1 is flaky at best for me, i'd love to see how a more recent build performs and if it prevents me from having to do a daily reboot.
Cheers Rob.

Exactly.
Anyone know if there is work being done on an Android L ROM with F2FS support? or if it will natively support F2FS?
I don't want switch away from F2FS at this point.
When would the OTA be expected?
It will be distributed from now on, but it may take some time to arrive on your device since they don't send it to everyone at the same time

OTA's take forever. maybe two weeks if you unlucky. there was a guy who made a nice little post on reddit explaining why http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/com...ear_data_for_google_service_framework/cdiymrp
EDIT: appologies that was the wrong link. that one explains what clearing framework data before trying to update does, this one is about the OTA http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1r1dz4/44_kitkat_has_started_rolling_out_on_the_n4/cdiwt6f
If don't know about F2FS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F2FS) you should read up on it.
The short of it is that it is a different file system that was developed for mobile devices, and it helps a lot with the lag on our N7.
Info about using it on the N7: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/speed-up-your-aging-nexus-7-2012s-storage-with-f2fs/

Question about SuperSU zip.

Hey guys, quick question here, are all supersu zip files the same? It's a noob question, but does it matter which supersu you download? Like, do phones and tablets need a specific version or does just googling for the newest zip file to flash with a custom recovery just work everytime? Thanks!

That's good to know! And how can you usually tell? Does the webpage usually mention which android version it's for if you read it carefully? (As you should with ANY mod) And worse case scenario, a software brick that can be recovered is the worst right?

from my experience, a current su zip will work across at least 2 major versions, possibly more, i simply dont know the range.

It's to do with stable versus Beta. When a New OS version comes out, e.g 5.0, then it *may* be that SuperSU needs tweaks and you have to move from stable: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 to beta: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
We also had to move to Beta when 5.1 came out as there were amendments needed, however after a while those amendments made it to stable. I'm not sure where Android M sits. Whether it needs any changes from stable. If it does then people will be using the beta.
So basically, it doesn't matter what hardware you have. It only matters how new your OS is and whether any changes that may have been needed with that new OS are in stable yet or in beta. ...and afaik, all official releases (so excluding the Android M dev preview) are covered by the latest stable release. As for backwards compatibility, my assumption would be that they are, but I never keep a phone long enough to find out.

I can confirm that it supports project treble ??
Have you tried the "getprop ro.treble.enabled" command in the terminal ? If no, could you please confirm whether the value was "true" or "false".
I used treble check app & it says there is support for treble but no A/B partition so no seamless updates.

I'm a little confused. How come it supports Treble if it doesn't have a separate 'vendor partition' which is supposed to bring seamless updates?
I don't think the app you're using is reliable.
Well, either that or I'm missing something BIG about Project Treble!
He didn't say that! The phone does indeed have a vendor partition, it just doesn't have the A/B scheme (that's what he said at least).

When I do a hard reset, will project treble stay intact? I'd do a hard reset to get rid of the installed bloatware before I setup the phone.

Okay, got my device today, did a factory reset before starting. All worked fine. Yes, for sure Project Treble support, but only A-Partition. But after the reset and setup all that Bloatware was there again. Well, not to nice, but you can uninstall some of them. The device is really nice and you really get a lot of SP for the money. So, now wait for the first updates to come

The reason i haven't done that, as i explained in the other thread, is because i need android pay, or Google pay as it's called now. I know i can pass Safetynet with some fiddling with magdisk, but as you know magdisk vs Google is a cat and mouse story, Google closes one hole resulting with magdisk failing safetynet, then magdisk updates and safetynet passes again, then Google closes that hole and so on and on. Android pay is too important for me to have to keep doing that. Without magdisk as soon as BL is unlocked, which is required for LOS, safetynet fails. If GPay wasn't so important to me i would have loaded LOS , or phh AOSP, some time ago as EMUI is just bloatware in my opinion. Why OEMs, and it's not just Honor, think their skins are better than stock is strange. If they truly believe their skin is that great then make it an apk and let users decide, don't force it down people's throat and then not even give them the option to disable it...rant over..
