Booting in TWRP manually? - T-Mobile LG G4

Hey guys,
I just bought the LG G4 and recently unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, and rooted it successfully. I was wondering if there was any method to boot into TWRP manually.
On my previous phone, Moto X (2013), all I had to do was hold down the Vol Down + Power button when it was fully powered down, and when the phone turned on, it would bring me to a list in which I could chose recovery, boot in bootloader, download mode etc.
I have tried the same method with my G4 and looked up youtube tutorials on how to boot into recovery which told me to hold down Vol Down + Power and then when the LG boot screen came on, release Power and press again. However, it took me to a white screen prompting me to factory data reset.
My G4 currently has the Stock 20i version of Marshmallow and has TWRP 3.0.2.0 installed. Again, is there any way to manually boot into twrp when the phone is off? I rather not use "adb reboot recovery" everytime I need to flash new zips to my phone. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that's what I'm experiencing right now by doing the Vol Down + Power, release power and press again, method.

Alright. So it won't factory reset my G4 at all? Its just a prompt screen to go to recovery?

Is everything all good?

You sir are either out of your depth or are quite a prankster. . I just lost root (as probably did op). You should be disemboweled using a dirty toilet brush for this treachery. Hope you enjoyed being cute.
(post revised to be less explicit, but left up to hopefully help others searching with same doubts about the twrp boot method to see it is apparently legit)

No, what he posted was correct. If TWRP is installed then this method will take you to it. It sounds like you failed to read the post and did this on the stock recovery, which is not his fault.

I agree. This is the method required to get into TWRP. Maybe TWRP was not installed. I've received a lot of false feedback saying something was installed and it wasn't.

hes right you are not.. cause you did something on your end that removed root. this has nothing to do with removing root. unless you didnt have TWRP installed as permanent and did a factory reset that sir is your problem

Alright, I concede to occasionally being a complete a-hole (I think most men can relate?) That said, to Gillim74 I'm not too egotistical to admit when I am flat out wrong, I was & apologize.
I assumed the comment was a facetious prank to put some "noob" in their place. Punishment for not reading every 300+ page tutorial thread in the development section. Also i was a bit suspicious, i definitely don't get how a recovery is hiding behind or spoofing the stock recovery?...
As it turns out, i suspect that the twrp image file was corrupted or empty in my sdxc card, when I 1st tried to flash it permanently.
To be fair though, this site & it's community have helped me many times over the years. After the stone age days of scanning SDX for roots & mods for a Samsung Moment ... & Getting yelled at on Howard's forums for asking about tools to port it to Boost mobile.... Smdh lol
I get a new phone & eventually find myself here trying to navigate the new landmines of an os, or knox or using older defuct apk backup tools etc...
Anyway, I'm 42 & have a business to run so... I definitely have trouble keeping up with the coding generation, but i try to do my due diligence & read ALOT b4 deciding on doing this tutorial & yes i read his 2nd post lol.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ck-guide-h811-20-o-bootloader-unlock-t3421589
I'm back to root & trying out the res remix 6.0 rom.... Still afraid to try to boot twrp without being plugged into adb for now.
Turns out my memory card had been corrupted in a way i never heard of & gave up trying to figure out. It was denying android any write access even in apps that are written for post 6.0 permissions, assumed LG had fubared thier coding or Google just hates sd... So i just used the laptop to add the files i needed. Apparently the card somehow lied about all the file changes i decided to make while it was in the reader because it reverted to previous files i had when i check it in phone days later.???
Back in the card reader same story.... I got a new sd & am still a bit baffled as to how that bs happened. I never combined the memory to the phone so.... Maybe lg backup... Glitch with Google write permissions... The xray machine at the courthouse?.... Don't know don't care as long as this new card plays nice.
Maybe I will get brave enough to test manual recovery boot when i get time to try new rom or mods.

My phone froze after clicking the secong Yes prompt

so I did this after flashing the rom and letting it boot the first time, as I wasn't near a computer and didn't have the ability to use adb commands. it didn't take me back to twrp, but actually formated the data and rebooted to the rom. Now that I'm home, I tried "adb reboot recovery", and it rebooted, showed me the warning screen about it being unlocked, showed the LG logo, and then gave me the android with the triangle.
I tried installing TWRP but I keep getting an error. What do I do?

I got an idea. Start all over
you need to put a copy of twrp in the adb/fastboot folder on your pc and twrp,SuperSU, opengapps, and ROM/ROMs you potentially want to install on your microsd card before starting, to avoid mistakes name them recovery.img and supersu.zip
1. Activate developer settings by entering the about section and tapping build number 7 times.
2. Enter your developer settings and MAKE sure you have 'Allow OEM unlock' and 'USB Debugging' enabled.
3. Download the latest SuperSU zip and move it onto your SD card.
4. Using the android issue SDK. Open a command window and link it to your SDK folder where ADB is located (typically Platform-Tools)
4. You can download ADB installer instead of step above https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
5. Once the Command window is linked to the folder, connect your device via USB and allow the connection.
6. On the command window type 'adb reboot bootloader' and the device should reboot with the fastboot options on the upper left of the phone screen
7. Once again on the command window type 'fastboot oem unlock' and the command window should say OKAY and complete the action.
8. To Confirm that the device is unlocked type 'fastboot getvar unlock' and the window should respond with 'Unlock: YES'
9. Now download the latest available TWRP and drop it into the platform-tools folder where your ADB.exe is located.
10. On your Command Window type 'fastboot flash recovery "NAME OF TWRP FILE" if you get the error ' cannot load 'twrp-X.X.X.X-h811' you need to add .img to the end of the filename
11. Once the process completes you will see 'target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (32968 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.088s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time:'
THE FAILED UNKNOWN COMMAND NOTICE CAN BE IGNORED
12. Once the process completes the device may not let you enter recovery from the traditional method using the buttons on the back of the phone so the easiest method is to, on your command window, type
'fastboot boot twrp-2.8.7.0-h811.img' and the device should respond within just a few seconds and reboot into TWRP.
13. Once the device reboots, enter twrp
To enter twrp you will
1. Press power and volume down
2. While holding volume down release power and press power again
3. Select yess >power button
4. Select yes > power button
NOW that you have custom recovery installed and you are TWRP(recovery)
Select BACKUP
Make a backup of everything
NEXT ...
Select WIPE
Flash the ROM you put on your sdcard
Flash open gapps
Flash Supersu
and tap on install
14. Once the process completes successfully, wipe cache to be safe and reboot your device.
15. Resetup your device and restore your data if necessary and install a root checker from Google Play to confirm root!
on line 10 change the command to 'fastboot boot recovery "NAME OF TWRP FILE" - this will boot twrp on the phone itself, then from phone install twrp and supersu from your microsd card

Thanks for the detailed response.
The good news, I can get to twrp. The bad news, even after flashing the ROM and selecting reboot system, the phone only reboots to twrp now. What do I do.
On a related question, I can use magisk instead of supersu, right?

Thanks again for your reply. I started over and followed your instructions to the letter. Unfortunately, I run into a problem with step 12. When I type 'fastboot boot recovery.img', after typing in the name of the twrp file as it is on my pc, I get the following:
c:\adb>fastboot boot twrp.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.179s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 1.202s
So i typed fastboot reboot, which rebooted it into TWRP.
I would like to continue, but cannot as twrp is an image file, not a zip, so I cannot install it from TWRP. Or am I missing something?
What do you recommend I do now?

[Tutorial][How to] Unlock Bootloader and Install Custom Recovery and Root

Hello,
I know there are some tutorials for this already but I felt like they missed out a few steps that might not be obvious to some who are new to this.
This tutorial applies to all of Android One Device (Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V Blue, Spice Mi-498 Dream Uno).
Unlocking bootloader will lead to formating of your phone. The stuff inside your sd card is safe but all your apps and their data will be deleted.
Unlocking bootloader:
1. Download Universal ADB Driver installer from here.
2. Connect your phone and run the Universal ADB Driver installer. Click 'Install' button and a warning should pop up. Just click "Install anyway" and it should look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Download ADT Bundle from here for Win-32 Bit and from here for 64-Bit . If you are unsure which version of windows you have just download the 32-Bit one.
4. Extract the zip file in your C:\ drive like this (You can install it wherever you like but this tutorials assumes this location for simplicity). Add adb and fastboot to system path by following this tutorial . This will allow you to run adb and fastboot commands from any location on cmdline.
3. Switch off your phone. Now, Press POWER BUTTON + VOLUME UP button for about 5 seconds. A menu should appear. Note: VOLUME UP allows to navigate the menu (move down the menu). Press VOLUME DOWN button for selecting/choosing fastboot. On your phone, it should say something like
Code:
=> FASTBOOT MODE...
Connect your phone to the computer if it wasn't already.
4. (Assuming Win 7) Click on start menu > Search for 'Command Prompt' and right click and select 'Run as Administrator'.
5. On command prompt, Type:
Code:
fastboot devices
If it shows something, that means we can proceed to unlocking bootloader. Otherwise, it means that the driver was not installed correctly.
6. Now, Type the following commands:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot format userdata
fastboot reboot
Now, your bootloader is unlocked.
Install a custom recovery.
1. Download custom recovery from this thread.
2. Place the download file, 'recovery.img' file in C:\ drive. (Again, you can place it anywhere but this tutorial assumes this path).
3. Run the following command (Assuming already in fastboot mode again. If not, follow the above steps to go to fastboot mode). :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
After doing so, it should look like this:
4. Reboot your phone and you are done by typing:
Code:
fastboot reboot
Now, you have installed CWM custom recovery. On to installing root.
Rooting your phone:
1. After installing custom recovery, download Super-Su .zip file.
2. Place the .zip file on your sd-card. If your computer doesn't show your phone as MTP device, download the drivers from here.
3. Boot into recovery, by pressing POWER OFF + Volume UP button for 5 secs and choosing Recovery by pressing Volume Down (NOTE: Use Volume UP for menu navigation)
4. After booting into recovery, Choose 'Install Zip'. You can use Volume UP and Volume Down for navigating here and Power Off button for selecting a menu item.
5. Now, select 'choose zip from /external_sd' and not '/sdcard'
6. Select the Super-Su zip file you placed on your sd card and install it.
Now, Reboot your phone. It might say something like 'su may have been removed' but ignore and press 'No'.

Hi, thanks for the tutorial. Can you explain the necessity for using "fastboot format userdata" given "oem unlock" command in addition to unlocking the bootloader clears user data.

Someone in this thread reported that they got stuck on the recovery, meaning the phone boot normally.
The port maker for recovery for our phone mentioned formatting userdata command in his post, so I did the same. I didn't want newbies to experience any trouble.
nice guide ..
but I guess "add adb and fastboot to system path " shall be made optional .. this will make guide little simpler and shorter ..

When I opened SuperSu after installing SuperSu through recovery, it says "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
What do I do now?

Is your bootloader unlocked?
If so....
you need to put a copy of twrp in the adb/fastboot folder on your pc
Copy these files provided below on to your sdcard
1. twrp
2.SuperSU,
3. opengapps,
4. ROM/ROMs
to avoid mistakes name TWRPXXXXXXXXX TO recovery.img and SUPERSUXXXXXXX TO Supersu.zip
1. Activate developer settings by entering the about section and tapping build number 7 times.
2. Enter your developer settings and MAKE sure you have 'Allow OEM unlock' and 'USB Debugging' enabled.
4. download Minimal ADB and Fastboot and install it....Y ....Y .Y ...... ( yes yes yes )http://www.devfiles.co/download/P4Yv....4.1_setup.exe
5. Once the Command window is linked to the folder adb connect your device via USB and allow the connection.
This is hardest step for most.
Adb will be installed c:/minimal adb and fastboot
Open command prompt
Type " CD.." Without quotes till you are in C:/ directory
Once you are in C:/ directory you type "dir" without quotes
There will be a folder named Minimal adb and fastboot
Now type
"CD Minimal adb and fastboot" without quotes
You are now in the adb folder
9. Now download the latest available TWRP and drop it into c:/minimal adb and fastboot
10. On your Command Window type 'fastboot flash recovery "NAME OF TWRP FILE" if you get the error ' cannot load recovery' you need to add .img to the end of the filename (name of twrp in this case will be recovery.img to make things easy)
'fastboot boot recovery.img' and the device should respond within just a few seconds and reboot into TWRP.
13. Once the device reboots, enter twrp
THIS IS WHERE IT GEETS CONFUSING
* this will boot twrp on the phone itself, YOU WILLL NOW FLASH TWRP onto your device from sdcard
In TWRP hit Install > Images... (bottom right corner) > select recovery.img on ext sdcard > select "recovery" > swipe.
This time you are flashing it onto your device. You only entered it before
Power off
To enter twrp you will
1. Press power and volume down
2. While holding volume down release power and press power again
3. Select yess >power button
4. Select yes > power button
NOW that you have custom recovery installed and you are in TWRP(custom recovery)
Say goodbye to your LG recovery....
Select BACKUP
Make a backup of everything ....save it to sdcard.
NEXT ...
Select WIPE....WIPE EVERYTHING......GOODBYE LG ROM. We backed it up step before
Flash the ROM you put on your sdcard (press install .....select sdcard....install ROM you downloaded)
Press back
Flash open gapps (press install .....select sdcard....install gapps you downloaded)
Press back
Flash Supersu (press install .....select sdcard....install ROM you downloaded
14. Once the process completes successfully, wipe cache to be safe and reboot your device.
YOUR DEVICE WILL NOW LOOP FROM FLASHING SUPERSU
ROM INSTALATION WILL TAKE 5-10 min
15. Resetup your device and restore your data if necessary and install a root checker from Google Play to confirm root!
Enjoy!
After typing fastboot oem unlock
Nothing working... In command it showing some error like cant find or such a things...... Cant do anything.. Tried.. Is there any other solutions...

The link is down so I have been looking up the latest stuff. So far I have:
* SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815
* twrp-3.0.2-0-h811
* open_gapps-arm-6.0-stock-20180401
* I also have found: open_gapps-arm-8.0-stock-20180401
Which one should I use Open-Gapps 6.0 or Open-Gapps 8.0
My phone is h81120x with 6.0.
I want to get my phone up to rooted, custom rom, with 8.0
* adb and fastboot
Use Open-Gapps 6.0 for Marshmallow
To regain root is easy.
Make sure you backup the phone just in case.
Copy root of you choice to external SD
Locate you TWRP and boot to bootloader.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
In bootloader
Code:
fastboot boot
Press space once at the end, drag and drop TWRP file, and press Enter
Install root of your choice in TWRP
That's it
Thanks so much... Working for me after a full day trying... Thanks

I have done all the steps but For some reason twrp is not installed and i still have the stock recovery. Please help
That's because the above only boots TWRP to root but does not install it. To install TWRP, when in booted with TWRP, you need to transfer the TWRP img to the tablet storage and then install it while in TWRP.
it is important to show the pathway to the file TWRP-3.0.2_TB-X103F-beta.img in the command line, like:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\My Videos\TWRP-3.0.2_TB-X103F-beta.img
Sorry for this newbie question.
Which part of the above rooting steps is rooting my tablet, what is TWRP doing and why do I need to install the SuperSU app?
During my first try I didn't boot the TWRP image rather I flashed it. But that didn't help at all.
After booting the TWRP image I was able to flash the SuperSU app.
The stock recovery is still in use.
Thanks in advance.
Read the steps carefully and follow the steps, it is a tested successfull strategy. To get deep knowlege about the background processes, please read the threads elsewhere in Web.

Hi everyone. I just want to clarify something about this procedure There's a lot of people being confused on how to get into FASTBOOT on some things, and that's stopping them getting anywhere from the beginning.
The Lenovo TB-X103F tablet doesn't have a way of booting directly into FASTBOOT. Turning the tablet On while holding either volume key and the On button doesn't do it directly. . . . . Firstly, there's 3 buttons on the tablet, I call them VOL- VOL+ PWR (again, that's just to clarify things 100%)
here's what must be done (well it's this way on the 3 I have on my desk, so I assume all TB-X103F tablets are the same) . . . . .
1) Turn the tablet off completely.
2) Press & hold the VOL+ button (the middle of the 3 buttons).
3) Press & hold the PWR button, release the PWR button as soon as anything appears on screen - Keep holding VOL+ button.
4) After about 8 seconds the familiar green android lay down will appear. Then, your recovery menu will appear.
5) Release the VOL+ button anytime now.
6) Press either VOL button to select BOOTLOADER on the menu (Bootloader is the same as FASTBOOT on this menu, that's where the confusion lies for many users).
7) Got Bootloader selected? now press PWR and let the tablet reboot itself.
8) it will show the LENOVO logo, and appear to be stuck - it isn't It's in Fastboot mode.
9) Plug in your USB to PC cable, and it'll install appropriate drivers on the PC (hopefully eh?).
10) Once the drivers are installed, test it by getting a Command Prompt in your ADB/FASTBOOT folder on your PC . . . .
11) type the command FASTBOOT DEVICES It should show you that your device is connected, if it shows no devices then either it didn't install the drivers, or something
else is wrong (there's about 30 things that can have gone wrong here, too many to go through in this quick guide).
12) The tablet will stay in FASTBOOT/BOOTLOADER mode until you turn it off (or the battery goes flat lol). So stay calm, there's no rush
I've mentioned about there being no rush, because if you choose ADB connecting from the recovery menu, it disconnects automatically after about 5 minutes -
This is Important to know because it can disconnect while you're pushing/pulling files from the tablet, and cause really nasty problems. Bad design eh?
But we're in Fastboot mode, so nothing to worry about like that

Successful root
It was hard, but I had finally had done it. I had figured it out it is easier just to go to the command prompt (I ran it under admin) and "cd C:/adb" (where you installed the adb fastboot software) while having the TWRP image file being placed there. I only wished that I had done it sooner. And for those who are new to the custom recovery it can be overwealming, but with patience and going through the files in the file explorer to find your main storage would lead you to the SuperSU file and successfully root your device.
I flashed TWRP...now what? I can't find any instructions on how to reboot into TWRP. I got into some sort of Chinese menu (PWR + VOL-) but I'm pretty sure this is the device test menu.
So I did the "fastboot oem unlock-go" command and adb said ok but my tablet just went to a black screen and won't turn on now and I'm not sure why. I also heard the Windows USB disconnect sound when i did it.
Would this work with the TB-X104F running 8.1?
Since a few months my tablet is stuck with the 'password changed, wait....' message. I had hoped that I could overcome this with the steps mentioned here. But unfortunately not
I can't start it anymore, so I'm not sure if it is in developers mode or not. Also, plugging the device in my mac didn't let it download the drivers.
Too bad, because when it was working it was a great tablet, now it's just a expensive drawer filler

so what exactly do i have to type at the command prompt to run twrp?,ive put the twrp img file in the same folder as the adb stuff.
3.) start command shell (cmd) in the fastboot instalation folder on your PC and check for the device connection with the command:
"fastboot devices"
fastboot shows notting
lenovo seems to have killed these tablets from the old lady next doors experience.. no wifi, no adb, no fastboot, no qualcomm, just unknown device, which loads NOTHING, no drivers work!!!

Help with Magisk root without TWRP

So i'm very very new to rooting, soon i'll got my hand on a mi 9t pro and i want to try root it.
I got some gist from reading the guide here and since i want to have OTA updates without the need to flash custom, i thought that rooting with Magisk without TWRP is a good option.
I do have some confusions regarding the method. So unlocking is obviously the first step, which i think is pretty straightforward. Then i need to root Magisk by patching a stock boot image, i assume this is the fastboot stock firmware of my current phone, correct me if i'm wrong.
Does doing it this way risk bricking my device? Usually people suggest to backup the current ROM with TWRP first before doing anything, or can i backup my ROM with other method?
What kind of precaution do i need to pay attention to? And is it actually recommended to do it this way?
yeah, no this has a high hard-brick risk i think. its safer to just flash TWRP and install it trough that, then you can always go back to stock recovery if you wanted to.

1. Download the fastboot ROM you currently have installed on your device.
2. Extract the boot image from downloaded zip
3. Keep 1 copy of boot image in your PC (For Backup, in case anything goes wrong)
4. Now copy the boot image in your phone's internal storage.
5. Install Magisk Manager App
6. Open and Tap Install
7. Select "Patch Boot Image"
8. Select the boot image you copied in your phone and follow the on screen instructions.
9. Now there should be a new .img file created in the download folder of your phone. ( I guess named something like magisk_patch.img, not sure of name but you do understand right?)
10. Copy that .img file in your PC.
11. Now connect your phone to your PC in Fastboot mode.
12. Open the folder where you copied it in your PC.
13. Now press and hold shift on you keyboard and right click on empty space in folder and select "Open Command Window Here".
14. Now type the command "fastboot flash boot filename.img",
let the process complete.
15. Reboot.
16. Profit.
This method should work fine without any issues but if anything goes wrong:
1.Connect your device to your PC in fastboot mode.
2. Open the folder where you kept the boot image (in step 3)
3. Now press and hold shift on you keyboard and right click on empty space in folder and select "Open Command Window Here".
4. Now type the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (without quotes),
5. let the process complete.
6. Reboot

Wrong forum, you have a Mi 9T, this is the 9T Pro forum.
Anyway, look here.

If viewing on a phone you'll probably need to view the page in desktop mode, otherwise you'll see a blank page.

How To Guide Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Root Guide (No firmware download needed)

Welcome to my thread. Today I am going to teach you how to install a custom recovery on the device and how to recover the original boot files on the phone to modify them. After modifying those files you will have root on the device. A lot of time and effort has been put into getting this to work. The custom recovery that we will be using is TWRP Recovery.
Note: Modifying your device will void the manufacturer's warranty.
All modifications made to your device are done at your own risk and you claim full
responsibility if the device is damaged or if data is lost.
First, we are going to enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging. To do so, you will follow the steps below.
1. Sign in to your Mi Cloud Account on your phone.
2. Tap the “Settings” menu on your Mi 11 Ultra, then tap the “About Phone” option.
3. Tap the “MIUI Version” option several times until you see the “You are now a developer” message.
4. Tap the “Additional Settings” Menu, then tap the “Developer options” on your phone.
5. Activate the “OEM Unlock” option, then activate the “USB Debugging” option on your phone.
6. Tap the “Mi Unlock Status” option.
7. Tap “Agree” and then tap the “Add account and device” option on your phone.
8. Turn off your phone, then press the volume down button and the power button simultaneously to put your phone into fastboot mode.
9. Connect your phone to your PC via a USB cable.
10. Download the miflash ZIP file.
11. Extract the miflash unlock tool ZIP file. You will find the Mi USB Driver.exe file and the miflashunlock.exe file after extracting it.
12. Install the Mi USB driver on your PC.
13. Run the miflashunlock.exe file on your PC.
14. Tap the Agree button and then Sign in with your Mi Account after running the miflash_unlock.exe.
15. Click the “Unlock” button, then click the “Unlock anyway” button within the miflash tool to start the process.
16. Click the “Reboot phone” button after you see the “Unlocked successfully” message.

Additionally, we will need to have TWRP flashed to the recovery of the phone.
1. We will need to have ADB installed on the computer so download the 15 Second ADB Installer.
2. Run the ADB-Setup.exe.
3. Open a CMD terminal as an Administrator.
4. Type in the command: CD C:/ADB.
5. Type in the command: ADB Devices, make sure that there is a device showing up.
6. Download the TWRP.img to the ADB folder located on C:/ADB.
7. Make sure that you do not have a password or code lock on the device. There can not be any lock on the lock screen.
8. Type the command ADB Reboot Bootloader.
9. Type the command Fastboot Boot TWRP.img.
10. Navigate to the Advanced menu of TWRP and tap on “Install Recovery Ramdisk”.
11. Navigate back to the main menu then tap on Reboot and tap on Recovery.
Downloads:

TWRP image: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ztP266XjxteVk8pxcD7-sD-IxihmODPV?usp=sharing
Now we will copy the three boot files on the phone and make backups.
1. Navigate to Mount on the root menu or TWRP.
2. Select the System Partition and Data partition then go back to the menu.
3. Navigate to Advanced then Terminal.
4. Type the command dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img.
5. Type the command dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_a of=/sdcard/boot_a.img.
6. Type the command dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot_b of=/sdcard/boot_b.img.
7. After all the commands have been entered you can now exit back to the system by rebooting to the system in the Reboot menu.
8. Next, we will install Magisk on the phone to modify the boot files, download the Magisk.apk file on your phone.
9. Open the apk and install the Magisk.apk on the device. You will have to enable Unknown Sources if you have not already.
10. Open Magisk and select install on the Magisk tab.
11. Under Method tap the Select and Patch a File and select the boot.img file.
12. Press the LET'S GO button after you have selected the file. (Make sure to note down the name of the Output file for each file).
13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 for boot file boot_a.img and boot file boot_b.img.
Downloads:
Magisk: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases
Now we will flash the boot files to the phone and we will be rooted!
1. Copy the files you just made from the storage of the phone under /Internal shared storage/Download/(Filenames) to the ADB folder located on C:/ADB
2. Restart the phone and once the phone screen turns off hold the Volume Down button to boot into fastboot.
3. Now this is where it is very crucial to ensure you know what each file corresponds to for the boot files. Type in the command Fastboot flash boot (Modified file name for boot.img).
4. Type in the command Fastboot Flash Boot_a (Modified file name for boot_a.img).
5. Type in the command Fastboot Flash Boot_b (Modified file name for boot_b.img).
6. Then type the command Fastboot reboot
7. Load Magisk and verify that it is indeed installed.
8. Boom rooted!
I don't get this I rooted much easier by simply flashing magisk.
I downloaded magisk zip
I then booted into fastboot connecting my ohone to the pc
I booted into twrp from fastboot with the command "fastboot boot twrp.img"
From twrp I simply flashed magisk.zip wiped dalvik and ART cache and rebooted the phone
Root done!
My question is now how can I update without loosing data.
I was thinking of installing the new rom via miflashtool without wiping data and then reflash magisk. It should work right?

In my testing I couldn't get my phone to root with Magisk. I haven't tested that but it sounds like it should work.
Look it is super simple, it can be done on every rom with an unlocked bootloader (this must be obvious)
Download the latest magisk.zip file on your phone
Download the compatible TWRP for your device on your computer and put it into your ADB and fastboot folder and rename it "twrp.img" (make sure you replace the file extension with the ".img")
Reboot your phone into fastboot
Connect the phone to the PC
Run the check command "fastboot devices" to check if your device is listed
Then run the command "fastboot boot twrp.img"
Your phone will now boot into twrp recovery and there is no need to flash it and overwrite the original recovery
Now give twrp the permissions to look into your folder by unlocking it at boot (password of pattern depends on what you use normally for your phone)
Now since the twrp is chinese you must change your language into english (3rd button on the right then click on the globe on the up right and select the language you want)
Now go into wipe and wipe manually cache and dalvik
Now go into your system and search for magisk.zip, flash it and wipe again dalvik and cache.
Reboot your phone
Now when you boot you must have magisk through your apps, boot magisk and complete the installation process.
Reboot again and enjoy!

Thank you for this tuto, but i have a problem :/
At this step, twrp is booting straight on the menu, no password asked, and so, no access to data :/
Do you have an idea please ?

I believe this is a known issue, there is a problem on some versions of twrp with encryption, to me never happened. What kind of screen security do you have on your phone?
