To VIE-AL10 or not? - Huawei P9 Plus Questions & Answers

I'm still waiting for unbranded, unlocked VIE-L09 to be released in the UK. It seems that the first devices to hit will be locked to Vodafone (or O2) and have their branding and bloatware. As a result I'm considering going down the VIE-AL10 route, which I've been assured will be sent with "Multi-Language" ROM and Play Store pre-installed.
Can anyone advise what pitfalls I may encounter going down this route? ( I appreciate it will likely not come with a UK charger). Anyone done the same and wished they'd waited for the VIE-L09? All opinions welcome.

- Chinese roms by default come with multi language. No worries there.
- Installing playstore is just a matter of going to Huawei's own app store and installing playstore via that, and you are good to go. (PS: to get google contacts sync work you have to get the google sync app from the huawei app store as well.) No worries there as well.
- The China roms will come with certain apps which might still contain elements of Chinese language. For example the music and video app have online streaming Chinese content while on the international version there is no online content at all. Similarly on Chinese version roms there is a yellow book section in dialer app which is uses Mandrin text but such section does not exist in international version. Over the years Chinese elements have come down a lot because of sending feedback and so the remaining elements which is very little already will also be hopefully disabled in future roms if you all give feedbacks. [BTW my P9 plus will arrive in a week, and my post is based on experience with Huawei phones for past 3 yrs. So its possible some of these issues are already fixed on P9 plus]
- China roms have more features, more optimized and get more updates than international version. [My personal reason in always buying from China].
- Any apps seen as bloatware (maybe you don't like Huawei browser app? ) can be uninstalled or in least disabled.
- Make sure the 4g bands are compatible with bands of your network provider if you use 4g.
- There is no NFC for the P9 plus model in China.
- You have to buy the 128gb version if you want to get force touch feature.

Thanks for that comprehensive reply. The last two points have helped me to decide that I should bide my time!

Another limit in international version is that the dual sim comes only in Haze Gold color, while Single sim comes in Silver and White.

There is no 128Gb UK version, but the 64Gb version does have the force (3D) touch.

Thanks for the info here: useful stuff as I'd like the extra storage and dual-sim of the AL10. Does anyone have suggestions of where I should look to buy from to get one delivered to the UK ? My only dealings with direct importers have been for low-value items, but this phone costs more than I'm willing to loose to a dodgy website.
I've seen some eBay auctions that look decent, but they only have the Gold 128GB and it'd be nice to have a Grey one.

I bought mine from Oppomart. Using DHL, it was here in 4 days. They are good sellers and through previous purchases, I have had no issues. They even offered to pay 80% of the VAT if the courier charge any. And they did charge £24 and true to their word, they paid £18 back to me.

Ah, very helpful - thanks !
And it looks like they have the colour and capacity I want in stock

Greetings from Canada;
I found this (Huawei P9 Plus VIE-L09 64GB Quartz Grey - Factory Unlocked - International Version)
up here in Toronto on a reputable online store for $795 USD.
Does that seem not too expensive? I wanna place an order but thought I probably should
ask you guys first!
Thank you.

Cool, I didn't realise they made a white one with 128Gb.

I think about buying a one P9Plus chinese version as well. Can anyone please clarify it -if those phones have a 800 band LTE (used frequently here in Germany)?
Mostly chinese phones don't have it.I was looking in many online shops, and i was found in 2 shops in descriptions of the phone, that they have 800 band.
In another-they don't have...I'm curious now...Maybe anyone had already expiriences with that?
Thanks all in advance!

warea,
thank you very much! I was just wonder, why some shops don't include those infos full in their descriptions...
As i saw-800 Band LTE is supported, right? Is anyone tried it already?

i got my China variant P9 plus, and although I was able to get rid of most of the Chinese bloatware and install google stuff, i have been unable to get google now/google now on tap to work. i read elsewhere that that is just the case because Huawei's China phones have forced its voice search to use its own Huawei search (pressing the home button goes to the Huawei search instead of google now).
not a huge deal, but just wanted to let people know. also, only the 128 gig plus version has force touch apparently, i got my 64 gig thinking i'd have it but nope.
also there's no way to hide the navigation touch buttons (not a VIE-AL10 specific problem, i think) which is annoying. i jumped from the LG V10, which let me hide those buttons in any app if i choose to.

HTC Diamond World or US? Need Help ASAP!

Right now I have a choice between original HTC Diamond or the US version but I am not sure which one to pick. Can anyone please shed some light on this? Thank you in advance!
it would help if you were to mention where you live (US vs. Europe) and travel to, and other things factoring into your decision. if you're in the US (e.g., live here) go with the US version because it has the correct 3G radio; high-speed internet access on your phone AND 850 band which provides better signal..
Sorry, I live in US and on T-Mobile network.
Main difference between the EU and US models lies in the 3G/HSDPA data connections. While serious doubts/uncertainties on the use of EU model for 3G on T-Mobile (only 26 cities in the US so far) have been raised (details can be found in this thread), the US model will allow you to use the 3G/HSDPA data connection should you decide to switch to AT&T in the future. Second, the EU model has a front camera for video conferencing, but I was told neither T-Mobile nor AT&T would make this option available to their phone customers at this time. There are software available through Wifi for video conferencing as I learned from this thread, and you would need the EU model to do it if it works (I haven't tried). Google Maps, third, is not installed in the EU model, but there is a CAB file to be downloaded from this thread or the google website. Price wise, at last, the US model is a little cheaper than the EU model by $10-$20 USD (may due to the lack of the front camera?). There have been reports in this thread about yellow/green/wash-out background in the US model. This may be something you want to check closely if you want to consider the US model.
I read some other thread here which points out that the Euro version has the yellow spots and yellow tint problem, not the US version.

good clarification on the 3G network; T-Mobile uses, I believe, the 1700 3G band in the US and att uses the 850/1900 3G band. also, if you weren't aware, the US version of the Diamond is available at Best Buy Mobile, typically located in Best Buy stoes.

Then probably yellow tints/stripes are found for both models:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426319&page=10, which is for the US 3G Diamond.. sigh
@cortez.i: Thank you for confirming the complicated 3G issues
The US version is also more easily returned and exchanged by just going into a Best Buy and it will be better covered under the warranty from HTC. HTC is not pleased that companies like Expansys sell Euro HTC phones to customers in the US and says it won't fully cover those phones. You can't use either model on 3G on T-Mobile USA, so for you the main difference would be the warranty.

[Q] Which 'version' of the Droid 3 will work the best in Europe / The Netherlands?

At the moment there are known several 'versions' of the Motorola Droid 3...
My question is: Which version is the best for using in Europe / The Netherlands?
I'm using the Vodafone network here in The Netherlands and I want to buy the best version of this device,
which is fully working and compatible with the HSDPA-network out here, which is 14.4Mbps (at the moment)
So which version is best:
1. Motorola XT883, for sale in China
At the moment there is no information about supported networks, standbytime, prices or (sim)locks...
2. Motorola Droid 3, for sale in the USA with supported networks:
WCDMA 850/1900/2100, CDMA 800/1900, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 10.2 Mbps (Category 9/10), CDMA EV-DO Release A, EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Standbytime is 300 hours and you can call 550 minutes with it.
Disadvantages of this version:
- It is known that it has got a Verizon-provider(sim)lock
- It supports HSDPA speeds up to 10.2Mbps
- It has got several Verizon bloatware on board
- It has got several Verizon logo's on the outside of the device
Advantage of this version:
- The price, which is only $429,00 if I'm correct
(an unlockcode will cost you about $30 via eBay)
- The (XDA)community, which is probably the best for this version
3. Motorola XT860 4G, for sale in Canada with supported networks:
WCDMA 850/1900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 14.4 Mbps (Category 9/10), EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Standbytime is 240 hours and you can call 580 minutes with it.
What is not known about this version at the moment:
- Will this version have a providerlock / simlock?
- Will this version have providerbloatware just like the Droid 3?
- Price for only the phone, without a contract, is unknown?
Advantages of this version:
- It supports HSDPA speeds up to 14.4Mbps
- It hasn't got several logo's of the provider on the outside of the device!
My own conclusion
At the moment I thinks the Motorola XT860 4G is the best option...
And I'm still waiting for the Motorola XT883 specifications offcourse.. What do you think? Thanks in advance!
Several topics on XDA / Droidforums about using the Droid 3 outside the USA:
-Droid 3 in GSM?
-Droid 3 sim unlock discussion
-Droid 3 unlockable
-Droid 3 Verizon vs. Unlocked vs. China version..?
Wonderful topic/questions, and the answers interest me also, for the same Vodafone network, also in Europe.
I am trying to purchase the Droid 3 from USA, at this time.
Also, from where can we buy D3/Milestone 3 in Europe?
The most important network is WCDMA. It will show for you with H or 3.5G mark.
(HSDPA is showing as 3G Mark.
EGPRS is showing as E or 2G
and GPRS is showing as G or 2G.)
If phone is equipped with it, it should work everywhere in Europe. I am planning also this phone. And Verizon brand marks looks good..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
and where from can we buy it? on verizon they said it can be bought only with a 2years contract...
You can buy it without a contract as well from verizon for $459. I just bought it this weekend.
Unfortunatelly, they did not allow a friend of mine to do so..
So any other online store which sends it to europe?
Even if you can buy it, how do you intend to handle SIM unlocking? AFAICS, third party codes are not yet confirmed to work.
The only chance I see right now is to buy on ebay and to convince the seller to obtain the codes from Verizon for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172521
http://cgi.ebay.com/Unlock-Code-Ver...500?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5df4bddc
or possibly TURBO SIM?
or perhaps buy it directly from Moto-store, if i were to be in the USA
http://www.store.motorola.com/Motor...dtextbin,subjectbin,color_map,price,size_name
I didn't realize there is already a confirmed third party unlock. Thank you!
its also in the first post of this topic
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-3/158398-droid-3-sim-unlock-discussion.html
So, any of the Canadian or USA version will work fine in Europe? (being unlocked, of course) ?
Just ordered the phone from Motorola store you mentioned above. Have it shipped to Germany with borderlinx. Should work...
Why do you doubt it could work? UMTS band 2100 is good enough for Europe, at least Germany, but I think for most other countries as well. Just the same as with D2G.
I should not choose for the Droid 3 if I were me =p
The disadvantages have I mentioned in the first post.
Bloatware, logo's on the phone, not the best HSDPA speeds..
Okay it will work in Europe, but it's not the 'best version' I think..
HSDPA speeds, OK, technically you are right, this is a real disadvantage -- however I doubt I'd really feel the difference, for many reasons ...
Regarding the bloatware, I will get rid of it with another launcher, like Launcher Pro. Just as with D2G.
And the logo is unobtrusive, at least for me.
Of course it is not the 'best version' -- but available NOW.
@CLB-NL, and what do you chose for Europe? Wait for milestone 3 launched for Eu especially?
and what if i buy the D3 without contract? than it should be sim-unlocked?
Any information regarding the Canada version? like..price..sim- blocked??
Something buying a Milestone 2 taught me, is that the US variant (Droid) will get about eleven thousand times more dev support here.
@ rweb: with installing another launcher you still have got the bloatware!
We have to wait for rootacces and then we can delete that crap!
@ bogdan_wrc: personally I think the XT860 4G is the best version to use at the moment of writing this. Offcourse we have to wait for some answers. Simlock, bloatware, price and so on, but it's just my opinion... And we have to wait for the official Milestone XT883 specs also!
@ Sjael: the support is an advantage of the Droid 3, that's true!

But I do not see it anymore, so I don't mind. It may waste some resources, but I don't think this is very much. At least it works out this way on my D2G, and I asume it we be the same with D3.
It will probably work the same =)
And with the standard launcher you also can 'hide' it.
Just create a Verizon folder with all the bloatware apps and don't show / use it.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 N960FD Dual sim 6GB/128GB

Currently I'm with three, but dual sim option is tempting since I travel a lot.
Do you know if version n960fd is free of career useless apps and if it will be working fine in Ireland? Lte vise it should be working to my knowledge but I wanted to ask for your advice.

i know 1800 mhz is Three LTE network, here in the UK as that's the band they purchased for 4G LTE i'm not sure about ireland. Also make sure you get the Exynos as it supports all LTE bands globally same for HSPDA, HSDPA+, 3G Etc,
Also im not sure about sim unlocked as i purchased my note direct from Samsung UK i have to make a full 5 min call in the UK/EU before i can use it in the asian region, or globally as there's a sticker on the box that warns me about that!
i aint sure if one would have to make the call in asia i.e Hong Kong for full 5 mins before it starts to work over here in the UK or in your case ireland,
as eGlobal is based in Hong Kong all is stock is for the Asian market...
i could be wrong i'm sure some XDA user will know the answer!
Hey, bump up on this thread.
I bought the model mentioned in the headline.
I did not try dual sim (or 2nd sim slot) in terms of LTE, but I have received a UK version of the phone from global central. It was 690 with shipping.
Everything works as intended and I'm happy with the device.

Not 100% but think there's only 2... India, European, UK etc all have same model number then there's the Chinese version.... by the looks of ad and then not replying I'd assume it's the Chinese version.
so you think that 1 is ok? or skip it??

I bought the Realme X2 Pro 256GB/12GB supposedly Global/EU version, live in Orange County, CA, and on Android 10 C24 update using the T-Mobile network. When i go to Settings->About Phone under 'Model' i see "RMX1931".
I just updated to C24 and same problems as posted here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/help/how-to-to-android-9-colouros-6-android-t4071317
and my rant/venting here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/help/downgrade-realme-ui-to-color-os-realme-t4080299
The thing with this phone is that nothing is clear on what is working or what should be working with T-Mobile network, in my area at least. I can tell you though that besides the bugs/issues on the links above, this also does not work with this phone in my area using T-Mobile:
-No VoLTE
-No Wifi Calling
-No 4g while on a call(could be related with no VoLTE due to the missing bands on the phone)
Also on the T-Mobile network, on my previous phone, HTC 10 unlocked global version, i had wifi calling and 4g when on a call working - and i find that ridiculous that on a 5+year old model phone these both things worked and on a "high spec" 2019 model phone like the Realme X2 Pro none of those things are working and yes i know the X2 pro is meant to be used in other parts of the world, like china and india but still, when you sell a "global" phone(not priced cheap @ $500 imho) it should have all those 'basic' functions, like wifi calling, at the minimum! i bought at my own risk i know, so im paying the price now:crying::crying:
if you are willing to switch providers like maybe Verizon or ATT maybe you can have better luck with this phone with all the "basic" functionalities.
i was about 75% sure of getting rid of this phone and now im like 99% sure of getting rid of it. You interested? lol
btw, i bought this exact one from this seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Realme-X2-...hash=item34211a23a8:m:mS2Nl-L-Htood4wYaECLYCw
dam ebay!!
ok they finaly said its india version is that any good or skip it?
oh crap just noticed same listing i was eyeballing no thanks im skipping then

You interested? lol
btw, i bought this exact one from this seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Realme-X2-...hash=item34211a23a8:m:mS2Nl-L-Htood4wYaECLYCw
dam you ebay!!

i bought X2 pro phone about 1 month ago and if i was going to do this all over again i would i would go for the Xiaomi: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-...hash=item341aea54d9:m:mH_wyne-_SXAdmrXP7eck1g
before i bought anything it was between the X2 Pro and the Xiaomi, same price, but i went for the X2 Pro because of the faster snapdragon 855+ processor and more ram. I dont really care for the crazy 108MP camera(s). But if you do your research for the Xiaomi, i believe VoLTE, wifi calling, and 4g while on call, all work with the Xiaomi on the T-Mobile network.
Good luck buddy!
anyone who bought the 12 gig model that is the GOOD model for usa tmobile/att etc where did you get it? if you can link me to it thanks
anyone order this exact 1 from this seller? and if so what model is it? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Realme-X2-P...r=442520443345

If your not bothered about the camera which is the main selling point of the Xiaomi mi note 10 then the only decent point is the large battery... everything else is worse then the X2 Pro... Unfortunate that your having issues with networks as I have WiFi calling etc on my European version using ID sim which is a virtual network on three UK and working perfectly.
EDIT: Just read your rant and the other thread and can honestly say I have no issues with speaker being to loud during a call and zero issues with mic. I didn't have them on Color OS and I've been running the Realms UI c23 from the India site since 30th without the issues... installed c24 from UK site today and I've had nearly 3h calls today without any loud or mic issues.

LIke i said on my other rant, maybe i got a bad one from a bad batch:crying: which sucks because 30day policy expired from the ebay seller and i dont think i can return(ill double check anyways). And yes, the Xiaomi has larger battery also and yes i would of have ignored the slower porcessor etc. if it meant "normal" functionality on the phone with VoLTE, wifi calling, etc. all functioning - i would prefer a working phone than dumb issues and missing basic functionalities etc. MY2C i guess.
But like i said before, when i got the phone new with Color OS 6 Android 9, the earpiece/handset during voice calls volume was working "ok" at a tolerable level and i could be fine with the mic issue, having to enable speaker mode and then disable during call, i wouldnt have mind that at all. That is the reason why i would like to go back to Android 9 but i have no idea how - or im too dumb to do it ....still doing research of how i can go back.
ok got phone Fleabay SWORE it was GSM Model only but on side of box says GSM:850/900/1800 WCDMA1/2/3/4/5/6//8/19 LTE TDD BANDS 34/38/39/30/41 LTE FDD 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26/28 model number rbs9x225in..... so what region etc is that?
how do i get fastboot installed and configured? i havent had to use that in 500 years
fastboot flashing unlock in fastboot that does nothing? i checked my devices is there
i got fastboot working see,s my device but when i put the code he says fastboot flashing unlock when i did that it seems fastboot doesnt know the command or something?

Question Pros/Cons of China variant abroad

For those that have the China variant abroad, can you provide your thoughts and experiences thus far? Thought it would be nice to have a centralized thread for those considering to pick up a China variant over the Global one.
Some issues of interest...
Network Connectivity (despite missing bands)
Calls & Visual Voicemail
Issues with Google Services
App functionality
Backup and Sync of phone, apps, etc
Language limitations
MIUI Updates
Cost and Customs fee
No current issues in UK using Sky and EE. Bought from Wondamobile, no customs and currently using FedEx via Singapore and Paris.
My cloud and back up working just fine as is the mini Google apps set. Will go EU ROM once bootloader is unlocked next Thursday.

On your China ROM, is Google PAY working with UK banks?
I'm wary of ordering the China model if it doesn't work. Unlocking the bootloader and then getting Google Pay to work is much more difficult since Feb when Google changed things so I'd keep it locked.
P. S. Is wifi calling with EE working too?

Google Pay (and banking apps) working perfectly for me with UK banks.
You have to change default wallet within the phone settings from MI Wallet to HCE wallet (takes seconds).

Oooh that's encouraging! Thanks for the info.
Two others questions then please...
1) Does Android Auto work?
2) Can you assign the Google Discover feed to the left of the homescreen?
Android auto doesn't work for me unless someone has a fix. I have random issues with opening drive links etc too. Will try eu rom Tuesday afternoon

Android Auto - appears to work perfectly. Only installed to test and don't actually use it at all but it seems fine.
Google Discover - I haven't found a way to do that I'm afraid (I'm also a fan of it). Best workaround I've found is adding Google search widget to home screen. If you press the 'G' symbol on that, it essentially loads Google Discover.
When I plug android auto in I just get a miui USB popup not sure, can't get auto to connect to the car

Except for chinese bloatware and -1 screen using chinese apps, there is no difference.
Ah, you need to find a google play store apk, but that takes like 5 mins

There are differences in the bands. Yes 4G and 5G will work but not 5G N78 that's the 3.5ghz frequency.
So don't expect blazing fast 5G speeds on CN version.

I got 250MB/s yesterday on the Chinese version
Not great by 5g standards but coverage is patchy in my city and I wasn't in direct line of sight of it....
That was sitting in a restaurant

EU ROM is basically a community led Custom ROM with good support based on the China ROM.
Global is the ROM Xiaomi officially puts on the models of their phones they launch internationally. It uses google messages, dialer, etc by default.

Actually it was a response on @linnil that the devices ARE different...in regards of bands.
For me one of the reasons to order Global Version.
As I said 5G and 4G wil work but not on all frequencies.

I live in a country that uses n78 exclusively
I have seen screenshots posted of 500-700mb
Although I got about half that
On kimovil.com it says the 5g 4g 3g and 2g bands are the same but that could be erroneous

Different people have different needs. 250mb vs 700mb per second doesn't worth extra few hundred bucks imho. But are more than good enough. But it is just me.

What extra bucks?? On AliExpress Global cost the same as CN version.
However Trading shenzhen lowered the prices now. But not when I ordered.
But my point was you claimed they are the exact the same.... Some users may be disappointed afterwards.
