Anyone ever used an Ubuntu Touch OS on one of their phones before? What does it shout out to you the most, or not for that matter? Curious if how much it may still need in comparison coming from an Android experience. Thanks.

I am sure it would be really interesting to see Ubuntu running on this phone. I am worried about the ecosystem provided with it though. Lack of ecosystem is what kinda brought the market share of Nokia/Microsoft/Windows down.

Any news on this?

Seems like development has been stopped or something. Nothing new in official forums and no progress even in UBports.

Yeah, unfortunately you are right...

Hey anybody know if they finished this? On their site it looks like everything is working but I don't have a Linux distro on my PC. Anybody that does willing to give it a try?

There is no official word on its completion. Ubports show nothing as working and progress remains at zero like it has been for months.

Anyone tested this yet? (The commands given at the bottom of the website)

Since as the article says it requires a "tool" to actually get it on a device I don't see anything being available to us that actually works till at least the end of the year.
I'd be happy with better battery life, but it'll be weird without the playstore. I wonder how or if playstore apps could be ported?
Looks like they'll drop images to flash via fast boot. Should be interesting. Will try it out on my GNex

Not really a Ubuntu or convergence fan. I would personally just purchase a powerful notebook for the price of an Edge, or buy a cheap notebook & turn that into Ubuntu, but to each their own.

the point is not to have to carry two devices with you at all times, in order to have a full mobile OS and desktop OS. This enables you to have a mobile OS when traveling, and a desktop OS when you get home, to work, what-have-you

Who would like to see a nexus 6 color OS port?

Like the title says. Who would like to see a nexus 6 color OS port? I will begin porting the ROM to the nexus 6 if I get enough people that would be interested in doing it. I'd like to start a new project but only want to start one if it would get some use thanks. Just sent a thanks or a comment if you would like to see this happen.

Word. Reason I asked is cause I just want to make sure that this would be a hit because me personally I love color OS but being my first ROM I'd like to make sure I have a decent community on it or maybe try something different like an aosp based ROM. I've made ROMs before but have never released them only used them on my own personal device or my wife's.

That's not the nexus way bro. Release the ROM, put a disclaimer that this is your personal ROM to share and people will use it.
This being the new age xda, you'll have a ton of idiots that mess up and blame you, expect too much out of you, download your ROM without so much a thanks or review, complain when they don't follow instructions. I think that's about it. but that aside I would love to try out your ROMs.

I'm by far not new on here just a new profile sense the other one got all bloated and then I had been a way for a while and no longer use the other email. As for being the nexus way I believe it would go towards any phone or ROM. I just wanted to make this to see who shared my interest in a specific ROM. But ya man I'm gonna leave this here for a few days and make sure this is the way I am gonna go and see who all is down thanks.

Anyone with ROM making experience want to team up with me and help?
I just Google searched this, coming from opo to nexus 6 4ish months ago it would be perfect. With color os everything is proportioned to the bottom of the screen not like miui which looks the same but functions way off. Bought all my nexus's for aosp only other thing I'll settle for is color os. Was a cyanogenmod fanboy but they've obviously left things broken on the n6 just to point a finger at Google. Very disgusted with cm 12.1 for n6 out of the 30+ devices I've owned n6 bugs are left intentionally. Gonna try miui 6. But if you get this project going with momentum I'll donate generously. Thank you, color os is a ***** to code so good luck. Any work would be appreciated

Can you say when the ROM will realease ???
Would it not make more sense trying to recreate the OS style in AOSP rather than port a closed-source ROM that can't be easily modified?
Just playing devil's advocate.

1. I guess you're not familiar with porting. It is a lot of work. No one could ever say how much work to get it 100% functional. It's just not possible to put a time on it.
2. It is against XDA rules to ask for ETA's

Maru OS for Nexus 5

While surfing through the net I found something really interesting for our Nexus 5. It's titled as Maru OS by the original developers. It was the first time I heard about it, so I thought I'll paste it here so that people get to know more about it and if someone has used it, they might share the experience. What this amazing OS does it it turns your desktop to Debian Linux as soon as you connect your phone. That's something really interesting. Wanna know more? Checkout this link here.
If you wanna know about the hardware which the dev supports, try this.
Maru is open source, read it here.
Maru FAQ page for current users is here.
Note - I'm not the original developer. I'm just promoting the devs awesome work. I believe in Maru. Checkout the screenshots to see it yourself.

We all are waiting eagerly, my friend. He said he'll give links to people in batches as to when they subscribed. I hope I'm not too far down the list.
I only signed up 10 days ago so I should be in the last batch but hopefully the batches are large and the site is capable of handling the traffic when the links are live
BTW
I been using Debian for the last 3 years on my PC so I'm really looking forward to having it instead of android for carrying round
Also i wonder if the Debian screen could be output via Chromecast/miracast think I will have to email and ask
Edit:
I just got my beta links but will need to download files read the documentation and flash it then I can come back with some first impressions but I'm still waiting for my slimport cable to arrive so can't test the Debian side for a few more days

Pixel ROM for Nexus 6

Hate to be that guy asking devs for anything but pretty pretty please can we haz a straight Pixel ROM for our Nexus 6.
Sent from my Nexus 6
I don't think you're going to see one. The closest you'll get is to port the Pixel's 32-bit apps over to the Nexus 6, since none of the Pixel's 64-bit firmware will work on our device.
Oh man, I'd love to see that too! Sadly, I don't think it's possible. Could be wrong, development never ceases to amaze me

To make a 32bit app of a closed source 64bit app? No love is enough to achieve that.
So if you want Pixel on you Nexus, you'll have to buy a 64bit phone, either the 5X or the 6P.
Oh well I never keep devices long anyways. Just wishful thinking/pissing in the wind

A Rom like this one Would be perfect????
And they can do that because they have a 64-bit processor in the 5X. We don't. We should however be seeing a developer preview of Android 7.1.1 drop soon for us, with the finished product to follow.
Wow Having a nexus and asking for a ported rom is like having a Mustang but wanting to put a pinto engine in it.
